The In-Game Team Advice Thread

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

Hello, I am trying to build a team for the Battle Tower using Starmie:

Starmie@Leftovers
Ability:Natural Cure
Nature:Timid
-Surf
-Thunderbolt
-Psychic
-Recover
252SpAtk/???

I was wondering what should Starmie's EV spread be and what other pokemon should I put in my team. I was thinking about a Tyranitar and something else, perhaps a fire type?

PS: I'd prefer not to use legendaries.

Thank You!

Well, you'd want t give in 252 Spd, and probably 4 in HP.
To start off for team I'd recommend a Lucario; he does well against Dark types that you see coming.
There's actually another strategy you cann try. Use Skarmory to clean up the mess, then use Spiritomb. You lead off by Tricking on a Choice Scarf or something then use Grudge to deplete PP. Then go out to something like Lucario and take their Struggles as you Swords Dance, then take him out. After going through and losing Lucario or Scizor or whatever (make sure you have priority), then use Starmie to clean up the mess.
You might want to use Scizor since it can use Roost for instant recovery. Hope this helped!

TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

I was thinking what pokemon is better to evolve my eevee

I don't know if it is Glaceon or Leafon

Re: What's Better? Sinnoh Eevee Evolutions

Depends on the purpose. Glaceon has beastly special attack, but little coverage and decent stats everywhere else. Leafeon also sufferes coverage problems, but has good Attack and Defense.

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

Hello, I was trying to build a Battle Tower team and this is what I came up with:

Spiritomb@Choice Band
Abillity:pressure
Nature:Adamant
-Trick
-Shadow Sneak
-Sucker Punch
-Grudge
252Atk/252HP/6Def

I can either attack normally or, Trick my Choice Band to the opponent, Grudge it and switch to Scizor to Swords Dance while the opponent Struggles.

Scizor@Life Orb
Ability:Technician
Nature:Adamant
-Swords Dance
-Bullet Punch
-Brick Break
-Roost
252Atk/252Spd/6HP

Pretty straightforward, a Swords Dance Scizor with Roost to heal off the damage from Life Orb and Brick Break to smash trough screens and destroy those dark types that threaten Starmie.

Starmie@Leftovers
Ability:Natural Cure
Nature:Timid
-Surf
-Thunderbolt
-Psychic
-Recover
252SpAtk/252Spd/6HP
(Should I replace any off the moves with Ice beam?)

My special attacker, after Scizor goes down, Starmie sweeps, with a nice type coverage and Recover to heal off the damage.

So tell me, what changes you would make to it and why.
Thank You!

PS:Special thanks to Flame Battler. Thanks man!

Re: Emerald Team?

Replaying the game myself. My team's levels are a bit mixed up so I won't list them:

Blaziken (Blaze Kick, Double Kick, Quick Attack, Slash)
Walrein (Surf, Ice Beam, Ice Ball, Rock Smash)
Cacturne (just started training him) (Sandstorm, Ingrain, Leech Seed, Faint Attack)
Electrike (replaced aggron recently) (not sure on moves, hes brand new)
Gardevoir (Calm Mind, Shadow Ball, Psychic, Confusion)
Flygon (Fly, Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Crunch)

I've switched members around all through the game, and now I'm at the E4, and I think this team should be good once theyre all around the same level. Electrike is only 20 something, and Cacturne just hit 40 I think, so I have some training to do.

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

Emerald:
50 Swampert (Earthquake, Muddy Water, Surf, Strength)
50 Glalie (Ice Beam, Crunch, Hail, Headbutt)
50 Dusclops (Shadow Punch, Psychic, Toxic, Calm Mind)
50 Salamance (Dragon Claw, Fly, Focus Energy, Flamethrower)
50 Camerupt (Earthquake, Eruption, Rock Slide, Sunny Day)
50 Manectric (Thunder, Thunderbolt, Flash, Thunder Wave)

So anyway, what do you think? I think some of the attacks need replacing (Salamance's Focus Energy for instance) But interested to know what you think

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

Emerald:
50 Swampert (Earthquake, Blizzard/Ice Beam, Surf, Strength)
50 Glalie (Ice Beam, Crunch, Hail, Headbutt)
50 Dusclops (Shadow Punch, Psychic, Toxic, Calm Mind)
50 Salamance (Dragon Claw, Fly, Earthquake, Flamethrower)
50 Camerupt (Earthquake, Eruption, Rock Slide, Flamethrower/Fire Blast (for a low-HP fire move))
50 Manectric (Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Flash, Thunder Wave)

Changes in bold.

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

What kind of Pokemon are you looking for to fill your last slot?

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

I was thinking maybe Espeon. But I'm not sure. Anyone have any other ideas?

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

But what kind of role do you want the last Pokemon to fulfill? I'm at a loss to give you any suggestions if I have no idea what you want.

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

Lvl.71 Typhlosion
Ability-Blaze
Item-Charcoal
Nature-Timid
Moveset-Flamethrower, Eruption, Shadow Claw, With Flamethrower and Eruption, you don't need this. Try maybe Thunderpunch?

Lvl.58 Ampharos
Ability-Static
Item-None ATM
Nature-Jolly
Moveset-Signal Beam, Discharge, Thunder, Focus Blast
This looks good. I'm wondering if you might want Power Gem, it's a nice move. You can try it over Discharge and change Thunder to Thunderbolt.

Lvl.57 Lapras
Ability-Water Absorb
Item-Sea Incense
Nature-Rash
Moveset-Ice Beam, Sheer Cold, Surf, Hydro Pump
Nice, you're using Lapras.
First up, in-game you don't really want Sheer Cold. I'm assuming you haven't beaten Red yet, and his pokes are such high levels it's not worth it.
Try Confuse Ray
Ice Beam
Hydro Pump/Surf
Filler Move, probably an electric move like T-Bolt.

Lvl.55 Tyranitar
Ability-Sand Stream
Item-None ATM
Nature-Timid
Moveset-Earthquake, Crush, Dark Pulse, Stone Edge

Oh joy, I love this guy! Don't do Crunch and Dark Pulse though. I'm assuming attack is higher. You can switch Dark Pulse to Fire Punch.

Lvl.55 Dragonite
Ability-Inner Focus
Item-Dragon Fang
Nature-Relaxed
Moveset-Dragon Dance, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Roost
Looks good.

My 6th spot is open

Anyone with suggestions on my 6th pokemon and/or moves please comment!!!! Thanks!

Hmm...seems like you could use a good defender. I'd try Snorlax. I use him and his mammoth HP to simply heal off my other pokes, and he can inflict massive damage as well. He sounds like he'd work for you.

Mareep: Lv. 18, Female, Calm

Okay, I'm about to go against Bugsy and my Rival, so I was just wondering, what items should be held, what my two next pokemon should be, etc. Thanks

Why has she not evolved yet? Anyway This guy would be best to sit the battles out and only come in to kill the gastly your rival has. Don't use her.

Zubat: Lv. 18, Male, Timid Nature
-Bite
-Wing Attack
-Leech Life
-Astonish

Either go full out offensive with this guy or die hard.
Wing attack will be good for Bugsy and Bayleef but you should grind him some more.

Sandshrew: Lv. 18, Female, Lonely
-Poison Sting
-Cut
-Rock Smash
-Rapid Spin

HM whore I guess? If she is don't grind her. Put something over it.

Mareep: Lv. 18, Female, Calm
-Thundershock
-Tackle
-Growl
-Thunder Wave

Thundershock is good for scyther and zubat. Grinding is essential.

As for the other two try a Onix and Gastly. The evolutions will help greatly in the future :)

HMM... K, Hm Slave don't need training.
I disagree with SHellShock here, you don't need to grind really. All you have to do is think type advantage wise.
Consider Toxic and Confuse Ray on Zubat, as a Crobat it works very well. Then you can throw n Air Slash and Heat Wave.
Ampharos is good, I think you can maybe give it a Life Orb?
Last two pokemon, let's see.
You have
Water
Electric
Poison/Flying
You're actually pretty balanced. So then we see that you have a Physical attacker, a special attacker, and something that functions well a special attacker/annoyer. You could probably use another physical attacker. COuld you try Tyranitar or Heracross? Those work very well in-game.
After that, you can probably throw in a Gengar like ShellShock mentioned, or maybe try for Arcanine.
Hope this helped!

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

This double post is legal as I'm bringing new info...
So, my heartgold team. I'm finally playing, and I have several candidates for a team spot. Right now, I have
Feraligatr
Growlithe
Jolteon
Heracross
Togekiss

They all serve their roles. Heracross is a physical attacker with Rest+Sleep Talk to abuse Guts, Togekiss is a dual screener+Special attacker (I got hustle, and this pretty much negates it, since Aura SPhere can't miss. The only one that's a problem is Air SLash). Feraligatr sets up Agility then sweeps. Jolteon uses Charge Beam to function as a special attacker. Growlithe is mixed, with Fire Blast (to be overheat) and other physical moves.

I'm wondering what I should use for the last. I'm going to rng whatever I do to be shiny with a good nature, then EV and level it up in-game. I'm thinking of Donphan or Tyranitar, but if anyone has a good suggestion please let me know!
EDIT: I've also considered Froslass, I'm open to pretty much anything.

Re: TAKE NOTE: All in-game teams go here.

Thanks, but there's one problem there. I can't trade with anybody to get those evolutions. I caught a Nidoran(F) and evolved it, but I'm now going against Whittney.

Croconaw: Level 23, Female, Timid
-Ice Fang
-Bite
-Water Gun
-Scratch

Flaaffy: Level 22, Female, Calm
-Thundershock
-Growl
-Tackle
-Thunder Wave

Sandslash: Level 22, Female, Lonely(Holding Shell Bell) Sand Veil Ability
-Crush Claw
-Cut
-Rollout
-Rock Smash(NOT a HM slave)

Golbat: Level 22, Male, Timid, (Holding Soothe Bell) Inner Focus Ability
-Bite
-Confuse Ray
-Leech Life
-Wing Attack

Nidorina: Level 18, Female, Lonely(Holding Quick Claw)Rivalry Ability
-Poison Sting
-Double Kick
-Tail Whip
-Scratch

Sunkern: Level 12, Male, Jolly Chlorophyll Ability
-Absorb
-Mega Drain
-Ingrain
-Growth ( I know I need to level him up, but I just caught him and I'm trying the bug contest to get a Sun Stone. :p) Okay, so I'm planning on leveling up the two new pokemon to at least 22, but should I evolve the last two sooner or later?? Thanks Again

You don't need to Fully grind them to take the elite 4 on. You can stop at 60 for most of them. Oh and Lopunny's nature?
