The Last Airbender:The Legend of Korra

I realized that this show would be better if it wasn't based on previous source material. Right now it is wildly inconsistent with ATLA. It has become apparent that Aang is much more skilled than Korra, but the fact that she has never entered the avatar state in desperation like Aang has is a problem.

Likewise, we don't know how she's progressed as a bender. We have seen almost nothing about her airbending progress since she went though the obstacle course thing. She has performed poorly when fighting against the equalists, requiring significant help. We're at the end of the season and these issues need to be resolved properly. That's pushing a lot to the end of the last two episodes. I'm getting the feeling that the production staff don't really know how to make a good miniseries.

To be fair, Korra isn't exactly like Aang. Aang had to master all the elements while Korra doesn't have that pressure and can take her time. Plus, she's growing up in a post-war world, and doesn't need her powers to fight off armies and soldiers at any given second like Aang did. Sure she has the equalists to deal with, but she is largely left alone due to Amon's plots to gather more supporters for his cause. Training is good and all, but if you don't have many opportunities to fight your enemy, then you'll have less experience.

And part of the air bending involves the spiritual side of the Avatar. We saw that last week when she had visions of Aang (which have been hinted at throughout the series). This could probably be a great stepping stone to mastering air bending. Lastly, there is a second season after this. It is entirely possible that all issues won't be resolved until next season.

There's still the big inconsistency with the Avatar State. Aang used it numerous times as a defense mechanism when he was young. Korra not ever entering it wouldn't really be a problem had this precedent not existed.

Even though she isn't doing constant battling, we haven't really been given any hints regarding her bending progress. All we've really seen is her either struggling against equalists or prevailing (as she did in the last episode) due to good thinking.

Was that guy at the end Zuko's son? This is so exciting!

Who knew Tenzin's children could put up such an unexpected fight against the equalists, and was that Zuko near the end? A shame that this season will be 12 episodes rather than 13; no wonder fillers are a necessity.

This was a beautiful and emotional episode, only 7 more days until the big fight!

Edit: (Off topic, this is my 419th post on the forums, which is the Pokedex number of my favorite Pokemon, Floatzel)

I didn't really care for this episode as much as last week's, but the ending was phenomenal. I feel like I shouldn't be convinced Lin actually lost her bending, but that moment was huge. Iroh really took me off guard, but he looks a bit old to have Zuko's voice, but I will say that was quite a pleasant surprise.

I'm also sorta surprised by the revelation that if you lose your bending apparently you can't pass it on. I just pictured Amon taking every newborn and just taking away its bending for good measure.

Omg Lin

Omg Zuko's grandson (?) who's voiced by Dante

Omg

I think Zuko named his son Iroh after his uncle. That can't be Zuko, He doesn't have the burn scar plus, Katara did say all of her friends passed away in the first episode.

According to the Avatar wiki Zuko has a daughter to whom he entrusted the Fire Nation with, so I'm assuming General Iroh (can I just say I love his daughter's choice for a name? TωT) is Zuko's grandson.

Of course it's possible he has more than one kid, but so far there hasn't been any mention of him or her, so I'm assuming grandson who is also voiced by Dante Basco. <3

This episode was so action-packed, with practically every named cast member dishing out some punishment to the Equalists, special mentions going to Lin and the airbender kids (who may be adding another to their number if little Rohan takes after his father.)

The love triangle is forced into the episode too, but I'm sure we're all used to it at this point. At the very least, it didn't carry over into the fight.

...is it next Saturday yet?

Amon's ingenious logic: Bombing the people you're supposed to represent will show them how you're interested in equality.

Seriously. Amon is stupid. He could have just waited for Tarrlock's oppressive rule to hit a critical mass, then become savior for the non-benders. So much absurdity right here.

I completely lost it when Meelo screamed "NOT NOW BABY!"

Everyone who needed a CMOA at this point got it in this episode. Tenzin taking out the three chi-blockers that ambushed him and then taking out the Platinum Mechas, the three airbender kids taking down a series of Equalists including the Lieutenant (cue obligatory slow motion pose for Meelo), Mako redirecting the electricity back at the Platinum Mecha that electrocuted him, Lin post-resignation taking out the airship and defiantly standing up to Amon despite her predicament, and even Naga taking out the Lieutenant. Even the Order of the White Lotus had its moment. This episode was just filled with those worthwhile final moments before the finale starts.

Speaking of the Lieutenant, he's pretty much the Punching Bag/Butt Monkey of this series. He's gotten his ass beat by

1) Korra in episode 4
2) Korra again in Episode 6
3) Asami in Episode 7
4) Tarlok and Korra again in Episode 9
5) Jinora and Naga in this episode.

But, he's a Punching Bag done right. He still gives that intimidation each time he shows up despite his losses.

Lin went down like a champ. Proud of her. I was expecting a self-sacrifice and the airship exploding, but this worked much better.

Tenzin takes his family to the South Pole, and Katara returns with him to beat some Equalist ass. Calling it.

Why am I expecting Hiroshi to Heel Face Turn in the finale? It would be better than Asami doing the opposite though.

Is it next week yet?

Oh God, that episode.

Oh man, I really hope Lin gets her bending back! I wonder were Tenzin and his family will go? I hope Korra finally utilizes the Avatar State next week :I

I have a strong suspicion that Lin didn't lose her bending. It seemed too easy. I know something prevented her from losing it. We'll find out.

And so we've come full circle.

So, episode 10.

That... was a very good episode. Some Makorra stuff in the beginning, and Asami also calls Mako out on his relationship with Korra, which he tries to brush off, saying it's "nothing"?

And so Amon begins his attack on Republic City, and it's not looking good for ANYONE.

Pema is having her child... RIGHT NOW?! AT A TIME LIKE THIS?! Wow, that's cruel.

Korra and friends fight off the Equalists in the city, and Lin defends Air Temple Island(?). Although the kids were told to stay inside so they'd be safe, they decide to help Lin, anyway. WHAT?Well, they perform surprisingly well. Especially Meelo, with his fart/gasbending. Ha ha.

Pema's child is born! His name is Rolan? Rohan? All is not well, though, as MORE Equalists show up. Yeah, show up and (my guess) try to take Tenzin's bending away? AND THE KIDS? KIDS WHO ARE ENTIRELY INNOCENT? For what? Yes, to completely rid the world of airbenders forever so the next avatar couldn't learn ALL four elements? That's... rotten. Really rotten.

Anyway, Tenzin and family (and Lin) and Korra and friends part ways to evacuate the island. Naga does something totally awesome and swipes at an Equalist mid-jump while they escape.

Meanwhile, Equalists airships are ganging up on Tenzin's family and Lin. Lin does something extremely brave and jumps off Ugi's back and onto one of the Equalist airships, metalbending away its outer material. Lin jumps to the other airship to do the same thing, but she's electrocuted and brought to Amon, where he says if Lin tells him where the Avatar is, he won't take away Lin's bending. Not surprisingly, Lin refuses.

... and then Amon takes her bending away. And I cry.

Meanwhile, Korra and friends are in a sewer opening somewhere. Mako escorts Korra away so they can continue their escape.

...seriously, Mako. Make up your mind.

All in all, a really good episode. Season finale next week already! I wish it didn't go by this fast, but I still can't wait!

edit: Oh yeah, how could I forget about IROH? Zuko's... grandson, yeah?
...seriously. Next week is going to be AWESOME.

I was looking around at Avatarwiki when I found this:

Looks like Bumi appears next week.

I really liked this week's episode, mostly because Tenzin's kids proved to be good fighters. Although it was ironic that the kids were stronger than most of the adults. Anyway, I was surprised that Lin got captured and lost her bending; I thought she was one of the stronger characters, so it was a really sad moment. I also liked that Iroh - who I assume is related to Zuko - is heading towards Republic City with his fleet. I'm really excited for the season finale.

Pleasantly surprised by the general's name.

hope asami doesn't turn because of the love triangle. but i also hope Hiroshi turns against amon. he seems redeemable.

overall an exciting episode, can't wait for Korra v. Amon.
