Waves crash on the rocks below the jagged cliff, marked by patches of green. Aian, Bringer of Light, High seat of the Banan Council, Abbot of the Monastery, looks down at the raw power of the elements. It will be a tough crossing this year, as the new students plough towards the island on ships of wood and cloth. He turns his gaze to the docks where they will land, to the village of Manakise. The rain battered their thatched rooftops, the wind threw loose items across the dirt streets. This was how they lived.

You are a new student to the Monastery, Academy of the Magical Arts, based on the island of Hanik. The island is a windswept rock, containing only the Monastery, its grounds, and the village of Manakise. You know nothing of magic, only that you can use it.

Magic:

To use magic two things are recquired, the ability to channel the Power, and the knowledge of the Word of Power which can access that spell. For instance, the word for fire is 'Rashkan'. Saying the word will create fire, but to do anything with it you must learn the words for 'throw' or 'ball' to make any use of it.

The Monks

There are many Monasteries scattered throughout the world, and many different orders that teach different things. This is a Monastery of the Chalian Order, which is by far the most influential of the Monastic Orders.

Students start their training as Novices, but when they get further up the ranks they will become Accolytes and Apprentices.

Once an Apprentice passes their examinations they become a full Monk, to be addressed as Brother or Sister.

More Senior Monks become the Priest, High Priest or even Abbot.

Many Monks choose to leave the Monastery and become Wardens, Priests or Bishops in the Greater Order, but this will be addressed later.

Rules:

Normal BMG rules apply.
Put the word 'holy' in your Sign-Up if you've read this
You have NO KNOWEDGE OF MAGIC.
Remember, as this is a Monastery, sexual relationships are frowned upon unless long term like marriage. Don't stop yourself from doing anything with the opposite gender, but let's keep it to 2nd or PMs.
Discipline will eventually become regimental here.

Name: Martan von Alcheben
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight

Description: Martan is average height, at 5'10", and quite well built. He has a pale face and bright blue eyes. He has brown hair that he combs into a fringe.

Personality: Martan is not necessarily a group person, sometimes prefering the company of himself. He likes people, but hates the personalities that people get in groups that make them viscious. He is quite holy, although dislikes the structure of the Church of Magic.
