If it's supposed to be a Go gym, it's a weird way to establish something like that, considering how they destroyed Fushigi evolution grounds to build that gym.

And, GO's mechanics and gameplay style wouldn't translate well to the anime, in my opinion.

The resemblance to Go gyms is uncanny. I don't understand the "if". Also, the Ivysaur and Bulbasaur wanted to get to the roof to bask in the sunlight; nothing was said about a sacred site that was ruined.

They said that the Ivysaur used to visit that spot to bask in the sunlight, that's why they were sad when they saw the construction site in its place. Then they realized they can still bask if they just climb to the roof. It's kind of a weird message honestly, was the construction site bad? Is it about coexistence? In any case they're in for a rude awakening when the gym is finished and they don't have any scaffolding to climb up anymore.

It seems to be a message of co-existence since they ended up spreading the pollen to the city (which wasn't very possible before the construction). It is not hard to imagine that the people behind the eventual gym would allow them to return every now and then, using an elevator to boot. I'd be interested in seeing Ash's Bulbasaur become part of this "negotiation".
