Um? I'm... having a little trouble processing that. You mean it hurts when someone tells me the truth (whatever that truth may be) rather than telling someone else the truth?
I believe that he's going for the 'this is going to hurt you more than it hurts me' clause.
His statement assumes that the truth teller has little problem with telling the truth. Telling the truth is hard, but sometimes needs to be done and thus will potentially hurt to be on the receptive end. The truth bearer bears a smaller burden of the 'pain' of truth compared to the one on the receiving end of the truth, but all truths shall hurt if you are on the receiving end.
Yeah I get that sometimes the truth is painful, other times its useful and informative, but not offensive so the truth isn't always bad...
