And I take it the general idea to not dying in the day is to at least look like you're helping the town, not be too aggressive when it comes to killing someone, be wary of any undecided players and just keep an eye on what everyone does in general? It seems like a tall order, but I hope think I can manage that... But only time will tell, will it not? *Dies immediately*

Well, the idea to not dying in Day 1 is mainly just to make it alive past that. Day 1 most people are neutral since not much is going on, so I wouldn't say to be too wary until you get to Night 2/Day 3. But aggressiveness is a good key from the get-go.
