You don’t ignore them though. You accept their challenge and follow after them. Gary and ash was a one way rivalry. In the games you are not.

Well, in the World of Pokemon, if someone challenges you to a battle, you can't ignore them. So it doesn't matter if you want to battle them or not, if they want to battle you, you have to battle them.

If you're talking about Sun and Moon then just watch your character the whole game. Their face never changes except for twice. Someone can be dying in front of them and they just stare wit a blank smiling face, enjoying the pain of everyone around them.

If you're talking about USUM, idk because it's still the 16th here. Let's hope USUM protagonist has a soul.
