Prefix guidelines

Additional rules and guidelines on arguments and debates and on reporting users can be found here and here. Please note that the general Bulbagarden Forum Rules still apply here as well.

The rules and guidelines for the Pokémon Anime and Manga section are as follows:

1. Insulting users for their opinions
The Pokémon Anime and Manga forum takes a strong stance against flaming those who you disagree with; disagree with someone by arguing in the context of the show and not about the user themselves.

Please be respectful to each other regardless of your feelings towards the series. This should go without saying, but no one should be attacked for liking/being hopeful for the series and no one should be attacked for not being interested in the series. People can get into a discussion and disagree with each other without throwing insults.

We also ask that you refrain from personal attacks directed at any of the staff who work on the anime (writers, animators, etc.) - all criticisms should be focused upon the work itself, not the people.

2. Petitions and fan campaigns
Please do not create threads or posts to advertise petitions or other fan campaigns in the forums. Signatures and blogs can be used for this purpose instead.

3. Unofficial versions of the Pokémon Anime and Manga
The Pokémon Anime and Manga forum is a place to discuss all official versions of the Pokémon Anime and Manga and not fandubs, fansubs, fan edits or fan translations of the manga. This includes posting or asking where to find fandubs/fansubs/edits/manga edits.

4. Spoilers in dub review threads
When posting in the review thread for a dub episode, please keep all spoilers about future episodes (which have not yet aired in the English language dub) in spoiler tags. This is only fair to those users who prefer to primarily follow the dub and wish to discuss the latest episodes without having future events spoiled.

5. Unsourced translations
Any translations/summaries that are taken from a different forum, website, or source must give credit to the original creator.

6. Excess negativity
This forum exists primarily for the enjoyment of anime fans. We certainly don’t expect you to like everything about the show, and criticism, where on-topic and peacefully-expressed, is not something we wish to blot out. However, given that this forum is still recovering from turbulent times (which we cannot afford to repeat), we ask you to be mindful of the general kind of attitude you are bringing into it.

If very literally ALL you want to do here is use this forum as a soapbox for complaining about your general issues with the anime, then we suggest that you use your blog instead. The staff may opt to take action against such behaviour if we deem it necessary, and we will judge how to handle this on a case-by-case basis.

7. Personal details of voice actors
DO NOT share the personal details of voice actors (including e-mails, Facebook profiles, etc). This also includes bragging about having said details. Don't even MENTION it. Bulbagarden wishes to retain good relations with TPCI, and that would include not being a hub to share personal details for those employed by them. Please do NOT share their contact info anywhere on this site, or that you know them, as it is personal information, and they are to be respected just as anyone else would like to be in that sense.

It is great that Anime fans are enthusiastic about those providing the voices for their favorite characters, but please respect their privacy as well. They are people, just like the rest of us, trying to make a living doing what they love, and while we are sure that they are very grateful for the support and love they receive from their fans, we still shouldn't be sharing anyone's personal details that they have not given us permission to.

8. Discussing gender in Pokémon

The following discussion topics are considered both inflammatory and discriminatory:
  • Making assumptions about a character or Pokémon's gender based on its appearance (e.g. "Popplio 'changed genders' upon evolution" or "That character can't be male because of their hair/makeup!")
  • Reinforcing gender stereotypes (e.g. gendered interests, preferences, colors, behaviors, etc)
  • Discriminating against Pokémon or characters because of their perceived gender (e.g. "I'm sick of Ash catching 'girly' Pokémon")
Bulbagarden seeks to provide a welcome environment for everyone, including those who are LGBTQ+. We believe that even if they aren't human characters, applying gender stereotypes to Pokémon or any characters can be offensive and harmful to both women and men, cis and transgender people, and people who do not fall under any specific gender category.

Prefix guidelines:
You'll notice prefixes when you start a thread. You have the option of adding a prefix of PREVIEW, REVIEW and NEWS. Here are the explanations of when to use them:

PREVIEW - Used when a new episode is announced either via a TV Guide, preview or other scan. A source must be listed or the thread will be locked, while in the case of previews stating when the preview aired is needed.

REVIEW - Used when starting a review thread of an episode or movie.

NEWS - Used for things like programming information (TV-Tokyo, Cartoon Network, etc.), DVD announcements, and other newsworthy events. Also may be used when more than one episode title is revealed at once. A source must be listed or the thread will be locked.

MUSIC - Used for things such as when a new OP/ED is announced, CD announcements, interviews with the musicians who have worked on the show, and other discussion of music-related topics.

If you have any questions about the specifics of these rules and guidelines, contact one of the moderators. Thank you.
