WORLDBUILDING: The World of Tansei, v2.0

After some reworking of my ancient Kanto/Johto, here's the new version of Tansei!

The Basic Premise

The world of Tansei ("red and blue") is a large continent that will eventually become Kanto and Johto in a Pokeworld of the past. It is also the backdrop to an epic martial arts adventure involving hundreds of sects, clans, schools, and paths--some noble, some neutral and some evil. One such noble group is the Hanabi Corps--the noble team that the modern day Team Rocket descended from. But in these times, they are a noble group, but little does anyone know, that one of their own would go rogue--Sacred Evergreen.

Many in the capital of Jeweled Flower City watched Sacred Evergreen's rise to power with alarm--if Emperor Divine Dragon was overthrown, Tansei would be thrown into chaos, and the people would suffer.

Meanwhile, Sacred Evergreen scoured the land, looking to clamp down on those who opposed him. Many went into hiding, and a secret alliance of noble sects--called the Niji Alliance--was formed from the remnants of the Hanabi Corps, waiting for an opportunity to learn how to defeat Sacred Evergreen and his followers, and restore peace to the martial world.

Then one day, a band of wandering heroes--incarnations of the Six Guardian Spirits of heaven, came to the fledgling alliance's aid. They had heard the people's cries, they said, and they had come to help the people fight back against the evil looming over them all. Eager to bring some new allies into the growing alliance, Ruby Phoenix, Sapphire Dragon, Emerald Raikou, Golden Delphox, Jade Beautifly, and Pearl Deerling were welcomed with open arms.

The newcomers immediately proved themselves useful--one day, Sapphire Dragon discovered that Sacred Evergreen planned to unleash a fallen dragon upon the world--and the only way to stop him and his followers--now called the Flame Arrow Gang--was to awaken Mew, the Pure Light Pokemon.

But the way to awaken Mew was a long and perilous quest, so the Niji Alliance begged the Six Spirits to go on the dangerous quest.

What wonders and terrors await the Six Spirits on their journey? Can they awaken Mew, defeat the Flaming Arrow Gang, and restore peace to Tansei?

The Niji Alliance

Born out of the remnants of the old Hanabi Corps. the Niji Alliance is a group of noble sect leaders, neutral sect leaders, and others allied with them, who are working together to bring down Sacred Evergreen, his two attendants
Amethyst Delphox and Black Phoenix, their Meowth companion Kuroneko, and the Flaming Arrow Gang, and restore peace to Tansei.

The leaders of the Alliance are the Four Arrows--four powerful leaders of the old Hanabi Corps: Sun Arrow, Moon Arrow, Storm Arrow, and Wave Arrow. All of them are very skilled archers.

Other prominent members of the alliance include:

--the warrior Joyous Storm
--Jasmine Heath, a storyteller from Jade Rainbow City;
--the royal envoy Kyou, known as Purple Mum to the alliance; and his daughter, Little Night. He serves as the go-between from Jewel Flower City to the alliance, while Little Night serves as a capable spy thanks to her ninjutsu.

Ruby Phoenix, the Spirit of Joy and Inspiration

Brave, fearless, and confident, Ruby Phoenix is said to be both a fierce warrior, and a fine actor and musician. But some say there is magic in his flute, and bad guys know that when they hear a bansi flourish followed by a red flash, their judgment is close at hand!

He prefers to use a one handed sword in battle, but can fight unarmed or use his bansi to play magic. He can use a bow to a point, but he is nowhere near Emerald Raikou's level.

Personality and Known History

The son of the East Phoenix Clan’s Vermilion Phoenix and Benevolent Phoenix, Ruby Phoenix lives for adventure, and longs to be known as a great hero. Not too many know he (and the other five Spirits) are daeva–mortals who ascended to godhood after doing a great deed in life. But no matter what he is asked to do, Ruby Phoenix will be laser-focused on his task, and doing it well.

His happy-go-lucky demeanor may lead some to believe he is a goof-off, but he will always find something to enjoy in even the most boring and tedious task. His joie de vivre can cause him to act before thinking, but he is typically very apologetic when mistakes and mishaps do occur. He has a strong sense of justice, and is not afraid of calling out powerful beings for doing the wrong things.

When he is not adventuring, he is typically performing with Pure White Village’s resident theater troupe, the Blue Sky Players, usually playing young heroes, comical characters, and deities. He tends to remember every play he performed in, and it is not unheard of for him to quote lines from characters he has played. He is very skilled with a number of flutes, particularly the side blown bansi and the end-blown kidi.

Sapphire Dragon, The Spirit of Wisdom and Balance


Powerful and fast, Sapphire Dragon is revered as “The Water-Ice Warrior Princess” for her skill with twinblades. But for all her martial ability, she knows that there is a time to attack, a time to defend, a time to support, and a time to retreat.

Build: Lithe and muscular

Personality/Known History

One of four sisters of the East Dragon Clan, only she decided to step up as the clan’s next leader when her sisters decided to follow the actress’ trade. While she has time before assuming this post, for now, she is focusing on her adventuring, and building relationships with other clans and schools for when she does take her place as the leader of the clan.

While she may come across as hotheaded and angry, she actually cares about her friends and allies. And woe betide anyone that dares try to harm them! Some say that she has never lost a fight, thanks to her tactical style of fighting.

When she is not adventuring, she is training, swimming, reading a good book, or taking in a mah jong game or a play. While she is not one for acting, she is in the audience for every play her friends are in, and will help them practice lines, if needed.
