Welcome to the Writers Workshop Hall of Fame! For close to a decade now, the Writers Workshop has hosted seasonal awards, where authors are able to enter the writing in different categories and square off against their fellow authors! Authors who win in their categories are awarded banners and badges of recognition for their achievements. Authors who have earned 8 badges across the years are granted Champion status. In addition, all winners, be they champions or casual entrants, have been memorialized with their own trainer cards!
The current leaderboard can be viewed in the spoiler below. In this post is also a list of categories and their descriptions.
NOTE: In past years, winner banners have been posted in the actual Hall of Fame thread. Due to the massive amount of images slowing down computers and making it difficult to navigate the Hall of Fame, all banners and trainer cards will be hosted HERE from now on.

The Adventure Badge for Best Journey Fic!
Awarded to a story which exemplifies the traditional ‘journey story’ model while still telling an interesting, unique and refreshing tale.
- This includes any story which follows the basic premise of someone/a group venturing out and traveling throughout a region (or regions) with the purpose of defeating the gyms, winning musicals or contests or fulfilling one of the various additional activities available in games. The journey aspect would be the main focus of the story, with plots and themes revolving around it.
The Shadow Badge for Best Drama Fic!
Awarded to a Pokémon story with high emotional, physical, or global stakes at the centre of the story.
Awarded to a Pokémon story with high emotional, physical, or global stakes at the centre of the story.
- This category was once known as Best Dark Story.
- This includes any Pokémon story following a conventional narrative structure that focuses on dramatic themes but falls outside the traditional journey or expansion requirements.
- Stories with largely violent or frightening themes and plots should also go here.
- Some of the genres included in this category are: horror, psychological, crime, tragedy, and apocalypse/dystopia.
- Stories are allowed comedic and satirical elements, but stories most be mostly dramatic. Comedic/parody stories belong in Alternate.
- This includes stories with a region-traveling element where the actual journey goals (i.e. gyms or contests) come secondary to other plots and themes. PMD and Academy fics with a dramatic focus should go here.
The Distortion Badge for Best Expansion Fic!
Awarded to a story which takes official Pokémon media canon characters/concepts and established fanon characters/concepts and expands upon their story in a riveting manner.
Awarded to a story which takes official Pokémon media canon characters/concepts and established fanon characters/concepts and expands upon their story in a riveting manner.
- This category includes any story in which a character from any of the games (ie a gym leader or Elite Four member), the anime (ie Brock, Misty, May) or the manga is the main character, and explores their world using already established content or providing them with a back story/conclusion to their story.
- Expansion can also include stories based on myths established in canon (i.e. the creation of legendaries) or that use canon events as a starting point (i.e. the plots of villainous teams in the anime, manga or games). Shipping stories between canon characters (ie. Red and Leaf, Ash and Misty) go here. If you are simply using the name and designs of the player characters as inspiration (ie. Brendan, Lucas, Hilda) but aren't directly focusing on the game storyline, the story would go in a different category.
- Works that expand on your stories, such as developing your own personal mythos, spinoffs of side characters, one-shots set in your world, or prequels/sequels can go in this category.
The Combo Badge for Best Crossover/Non-Pokémon Fic!
Awarded to a story which has managed to stand out from the Pokémon based pack and provide a different type of tale for the Workshop.
Awarded to a story which has managed to stand out from the Pokémon based pack and provide a different type of tale for the Workshop.
