[Theory] Ash's future in Alola

Yeah, I don't really get an Iris vibe from Mallow in her design or her focus on Grass type Pokemon. I'd still prefer for the playable female trainer to be the new lead, but Mallow could be interesting depending on how she's handled. Although, I still don't think that sketch necessarily means that she's going to be in the main cast either.

Regardless, I'm not sure how I feel about possibly getting another type specialist girl. It's coincidentally been a part of the two female companions I didn't like all that much.

It could work and redeem this model, but I'm a little uneasy about the prospect.

I agree. That's why I'd still prefer them to go with the playable female lead again. Despite all of my problems with Serena's Showcase arc and development in general, I'd rather see them continue doing something with the playable trainers in the show than NPCs like Misty and Iris. May, Dawn and to a lesser extent Serena were all more interesting and enjoyable to watch for me than Misty and Iris were. If they actually put better writing and effort into Mallow, she could potentially work and the fact that she would have to complete the trials like Ash will be doing to become a Captain could be interesting, but after how both Misty and especially Iris turned out, I'd be a bit nervous about Mallow if she does turn out to be the new female lead.

I had no issue with Misty, May and Dawn. However, Serena and Iris got destroyed by the writers. I want a female companion that returns to the roots of Misty, May and Dawn. Mallow or the female character in the games would do.

They're both gym leaders with flowers in their hair.

That's a really weak and shallow comparison if that's why you think Mallow is the next Iris. We don't know anything about her personality, her role in the Island Trial or really anything to make that comparison to Iris work.

The only things we truly know about Mallow is that she loves to cook and has some odd tastes in food.
Which sounds more like she'd be the next Brock/Cilan/Clemont, really, since they were the ones that kept the group well fed. What are the chances of Ash having 2 female traveling companions- Mallow and the female protagonist.

Well, I don't know much about Mallow, but of course because Sun and Moon isn't out yet. Anyway about those people arguing about Ash being in the games, he isn't. Red is Ash. And the Ash-Greninja could be an event-exclusive Pokémon. Also, I do not believe that the Island Challenges would replace the gyms. The challenges will be there, but I think the gyms should stay. A lot of people are mad at the Ash vs Alain battle because Alola supposedly won't have gyms, but until it is proven on release, gyms won't be going anywhere. And for some reason, I want Serena to stick around with Ash in Alola.

They call it Ash Greninja for me it's a Synchro Form "Sinc Greninja".

Or maybe Master Greninja?

For me it could be a Totem on a Island. Or a new form of mega-evolution?
like with Ryquaza?

But that was to explain the differences between remakes and the originals. If we were to replay Kanto in the Mega universe, I'm pretty sure Red would still be there.

Red came before Ash. Ash is an anime exclusive character only. Also they probably rename the Greninja form Red-Greninja or Synchro-Greninja. Red would be more likely to appear in Sun and Moon than Ash.

And Satoshi came before Red. Ash is a unique case where he is indisputably the human face of the Pokémon franchise, even moreso than Red. The old artworks were clear that Ash and Red were pretty much the same character, just with different names. The differentiation began to start in Gen III, where GameFreak for some reason decided to turn the Gen I male protagonist from a Japanese kid design to the more international friendly design we see Red today.

We don't know what Gen VI and VII's version of Red is to begin with anyways (Origins is not confirmed to be canonical with the game lore). But I do say that the anime has been rebounding its influence over the games... And Ash-Greninja is a bit too iconic and widespread to simply rename it to Red-Greninja (mainly because it actually looks like Ash).

Doesn't change anything because Ash is not a game character and Red is. Red is more competent anyway so I prefer him to always be in the games.

It's not too far to compare Ash to Red since Ash actually has a personality and Red's competency has more to do with the players than anything else. That and the way fans glorify Red in general has gotten old for me over the years.

I don't believe or want Ash to be in the game. It is bad enough he loses in the anime let alone the video games.

So? Red always loses in Gold and Silver/HeartGold and SoulSilver and virtually every game where he is an opponent. It's the nature of the game. The only reason people build him up as this unbeatable badass is fan-interpretation.

That had really nothing to do with what I said though. Plus, it's kind of strange to complain about Ash losing when you have to defeat Red in order to defeat the second generation games and to get through the rounds in the World Championships in B2/W2. He's strong, but it's really the fanbase that presents him as this cool, tough unbeatable trainer more than anything else. Red has to lose in order for you, the player, to advance through in the games, so if you want to fight a trainer who is unbeatable, you're out of luck there. I'm also still confused about your issues with Ash losing.
