There seems to be a problem with the IRC.

I have tried to enter the chat room multiple times today, and each time, the connection could not be completed because it "timed out". I do not know if I am the only person experiencing this problem, but any help would be appreciated.

I've also been trying to use java all day. It won't connect.

Yeah I got that same problem, however couldn't you just use mIRC, I connect fine though that.

I'm using Mibbit and it works fine for me.

Try allowing javachat to connect (dont click deny/block/whatever). Or use mibbit and connect to irc.systemnet.info and #bulbagarden.
