Well, this is a bit more complicated. Also, pokeballs cant work because even though they convert the pokemon into energy that fits into the pokeball, conservation of mass means that if you tried to carry a pokebell with a pokemon in it that weighs over 100 pounds, you would snap your effing arm off.
HSOWA,Beeyatch. How many people said this already?
Skitty can breed with Wailord.
I actually prefer the old method, because that's how it happens in the games. Now, in this sense, it's more of a consistency issue rather than comparing it with common sense, but the evolution of Pokemon in the anime wasn't consistent. For example, Politoed, a Pokemon that normally requires trading to evolve, doesn't need to in the anime. Rather, it just needed the King's Rock to evolve. It's true that things doesn't necessarily work that way these days, but it's something of an "early installment weirdness". That's not the only thing that's different early on. The way the anime dealt with an oversized party didn't make sense in those days, because once the seventh Pokemon is caught, it teleported to Professor Oak's lab on its own (in this case, Ash's Krabby). Currently, the seventh Pokemon in hand had a red button to indicate that contents can't be released, which made more sense than those days.
