Things in pokemon that dont make sense

Here's one more: How do Pokémon fit inside the the Poké Ball? How do they materialize into a red mass, and then get sent into the ball?

Spoiler for answer:
Okay, so Pokémon are already established to be creatures that can turn energy into matter with a reversed version of the relativity equation of Einstein (i.e. they can make a lot of matter from very little energy).

Well, okay, that's not canon, but that's the closest that we can go without taking up the MST3K Mantra.

So, if you will observe:
pokeball_openb5188ef7-506a-48bc-82ec-7db4da5c975flarge.jpg

The inside of the Poké Ball is covered in mirrors.

Here is where it all comes together.
In physics, there are 9 types of energy.
Fire
Water
Grass
Electric
Dragon
Psychic
Bug
Ghost
And Normal

I'm kidding.
It's actually these:
Kinetic (movement)
Thermal (heat)
Photonic (light)
Sound (you should know what this is)
Nuclear (radioactivity and stuff)
Gravational potential (what kinetic energy turns into when it can fall, but isn't falling)
Elastic potential (what kinetic energy turns into when you put strain on a rubber band or something)
Electrical (once again, obvious)
Chemical (how energy is stored in food, fuel, etc)

Pokémon obviously have control over at least kinetic, sound, photonic, and electrical energy, and possibly nuclear energy as well.
But, as you will note, photonic energy is light.

Now things get complicated: time factors into it.

In the deep darkness of space, time loses its steady tick-tock that Dialga loves so much. The closer you get to light speed, the more time seems to speed up, but actually, you slow down. With me so far?

Well, the Poké Ball works by converting Pokémon into light using their own abilities, and bouncing them around against the mirrors at light speed. Because it's at light speed, time seriously slows down for them (in fact it may stop completely), leaving the Pokémon in a kind of stasis.

Ta-da!

And now for the trivia.
Pokémon become red light because red light, in a vacuum, travels faster than, say, blue light or yellow light. This preserves the Pokémon for longer. They're white when they're coming out because white light is all of the colours combined, and can therefore hold the most energy, allowing the conversion from light into matter to proceed faster.
Also, Poké Balls should technically either be black (so as to be solar powered) or need to charge every once in a while. I would recommend solar power because it has the added effect of being able to absorb the converted Pokémon more easily.

This is just my headcanon, by the way, so feel free to call me out on any physics mistakes.
Alright, my turn! What is the Entralink, and how does the C-Gear factor into it?

My brain hurts... :S

Elite four are type specialist. In a competitive view this makes no sense how are they are the top trainers when their teams are full of easily exploitable weaknesses. It also explains how kids become champions in pokemon just doing supereffective spam on the E4.

Really the E4 should be the top 4 trainers with balanced multi typed teams not just another excuse to gamefreak to push their typist agenda.

Pokemon Sizes. ex. Pidgey and Ledyba. Ledyba is a ladybug, so you imagine it to be very small, small compared to Pidgey, a bird pokemon and is also small but should be reasonably bigger than the ledyba is 2 ft smaller....

Although pokemon games really don't need to make too much sense logically this is just crazy

Poke Balls. So basically the entire concept of the franchise in the first place.

Why are ghosts weak to ghost attacks? (Aside from the type-chart balancing issues,) surely ghosts can't scare other ghosts.
And, I don't really see why Ghosts couldn't scare other Ghosts. ._.
It may depend on the Ghost.

Example: You're a Golurk who has been with your Trainer since you were just a little Golett. The two of you have been through thick and thin; it goes without saying that you adore your Trainer and would do anything in your power to protect this human. The two of you are on a journey together and run into a wild Lampent. You know what the Lampent eats and it seems very hungry. Wouldn't you be more than a little afraid of that thing?

It's a thought.

Aggron using Surf. Given it's immense weight one would think it would drown. I suppose it could use Automize first to lower it's weight; possibly making it buoyant in the process. How would it breathe though?

Rhydon can also learn surf despite having a 4x weakness to water. I always thought that was weird. Wouldn't the Rhydon hurt itself by doing that?

The same way all the non-Water Pokémon that can learn Surf do: it keeps its nose above the water.

Arceus who supposed to have created the universe being captured inside a manmade ball and controlled by a 10 year old. It's baffling.

OP! I agree with you about trade evolutions. I despise them. I really wanted a Gengar back in the day, but had no friends to trade with. So unfair! D:

Oh, this is gonna be fun.... (And yes, some of these might be repeats of what other people on this thread have already said. So credit to every other poster here.)

-The player character rarely needs to eat or sleep. (But most games do this as well...)
-The PC (player character), when he does sleep, can sleep whenever he wants at any time of the day
-Kangaskhan is born with a baby in its pouch.... Wut...
-Nidorina and Nidoqueen can't breed
-Some genderless Pokemon can breed... How?
-Why only Fighting type is super effective on Normal
-Why ground is SE on Poison
-When the PC rests, his Pokemon somehow also rest with him.... But aren't they resting all the time in their Pokeballs?
-All major villains in the Pokemon World were stopped by 10-13 year olds.
-Why Nidoran's two genders are different SPECIES.
-Pokemon that LOOK like they're levitating but don't actually have the ability
-All Pokemon, even the mammal-like ones, lay eggs
-All Pokemon eggs look the same, have the same size, AND have the same shape, regardless of species (excluding Manaphy)
-Why Manaphy can breed but other legendaries can't
-Real world locations mentioned in the Pokemon world
-A Cubone born from an egg has a skull on it's head.... Even if it's mother is still alive... Even if it's mother is Ditto.
-Trade evolutions (like OP said)
-Pokemon that should already know some HMs. Like, you catch a Tentacool that doesn't know surf. The how the FUDGE was it in the water in the first place? (Idea to fix this: Field Abilities.)
-Why only some trees can be cut. And those that can be cut are planted in convenient locations...
-You can fly on Pokemon that are way to small for you...
-How teaching Pokemon TMs/HMs work. It's a friggin CD! (And in Pokemon Origins, a CD on a Floppy Disk!) What, do you put it in the Pokemon's mouth?
-The PC faints when he loses... EVERY SINGLE TIME. Seriously?
-How does "Lick" actually HURT a Pokemon?
-How you can Battle with huge Pokemon inside buildings...
-All player characters except Brendan/May only have a mom and no dad.
-The PC never talks except by "Yes" or "No".
-Hidden items. Sure, sometimes they make sense, like when they're hidden in the trash can. But sometimes they're out there in the open and you CAN'T SEE THEM.
-You can have more than one Arceus. Actually, that a 10-13 year old can capture a GOD itself is surprising. But then you can have more than one god. Wasn't there only ONE Arceus that created the world?
-Ground and Rock types are able to use Surf... Don't they get hurt by the water or something?
-Hoenn has no night or day. It's always daytime, because wut. (Unless the fix this in remakes.)
-The only region with seasons is Unova. And some places in the Pokemon world are always a certain season, e.g. Snowpoint City is always winter.
-When there's a tree in your way which you could easily squeeze through. But you can't.
-When someone is blocking your path, you CAN'T GO AROUND THEM.
-You can't jump over ledges. Even though they're like a foot high.

I think that's most of them... I might add more later...

Something that doesn't make sense to me is WHY GOODRA ISN'T PART WATER-TYPE. I mean, it learns Bubble (and various other Water-type moves) through leveling up, it can only evolve from Sligoo if it's raining in the overworld, and it has the ability Hydration, which was almost exclusive to Water-types (with three exceptions) up until this point! It's other ability is Sap Sipper, which makes NO SENSE, because who in their right mind would use a Grass-type move on a pure Dragon-type?! I mean, sorry for sounding so angry, but I was really expecting more out of it, mostly due to the fact that everyone seemed to be making such a big deal about it.

-Pokemon that should already know some HMs. Like, you catch a Tentacool that doesn't know surf. The how the FUDGE was it in the water in the first place? (Idea to fix this: Field Abilities.)

-How teaching Pokemon TMs/HMs work. It's a friggin CD! (And in Pokemon Origins, a CD on a Floppy Disk!) What, do you put it in the Pokemon's mouth?

I like to think that the TMs and HMs are like DVDs containing instructional videos, showing the Pokémon how the moves work. Like how in FireRed and LeafGreen, you have the item TM Case, right? Well, what if the case had the ability to play the TMs and HMs? I.e., you select a TM/HM, and a little screen pops up and plays the video for your Pokémon. That's how I always imagined it after Gen. III revealed that they were discs.

As for Surf, it's more teaching the Pokémon how to swim around quickly while carrying a human around on its back than it is teaching it to swim at all. Remember that the animation for Surf is usually depicted as being a wave, meaning that the Pokémon probably summons a small wave to help carry it around while using Surf outside of battle. Same thing with Fly. The Pokémon that can learn it already know how to fly, but not while carrying a human. HMs seem to be more about teaching a Pokémon how to use their abilities in a specific way, for a specific purpose, rather than teaching them how to use their abilities in the first place.

Stand-alone Pokémon that are visibly massive. Like Lapras.

Happiny and Chansey. Happiny and Chansey being born with stones/eggs in their pouch.

Kangaskhan having a baby in her pouch the second she's born.

Cubone's Dex entries all being derived from the Orphan Cubone from Lavender Town. We're just supposed to believe that ALL Cubone are orphans? And that all Marowak die after breeding despite them not dying in-game after breeding? That would mean that all Cubone born in captivity are NOT orphans, meaning that not ALL Cubone are orphans. It's stupid and confusing.

Too many to list. My main beef has always been with the breeding system, although that can easily be handwaved as a mere game mechanic. I also have some issues with how evos work, but that can also be handwaved. Yes, this includes evoing by level, as these levels can be quite arbitrary. (what it represents, though, time and experience, though, I'm fine with that, but it would have to be more uniform than what pokemon makes it out to be) I've also heavily criticized the trainer's life as a whole. It should not be that easy, nor should it be the most prominent profession, at least in terms of competitive battling. Technically, a lot of the professions of the pokeworld involve using pokemon in some way, just not to the degree that competitive trainers do. I can't even approve of kids being allowed to do this on their own, regardless of upbringing. I can only justify the use of the pokeball as a convenience, and even then, without the catching modifiers most of them are known for, as to me, that implies a manipulation of will. They can only catch what has already befriended you. I also think the dex is nothing but the biggest pile of lies in existence. Finally, the inconsistent lore. There is no one version of the pokeworld, there are many. What applies in one almost always does not apply in another. The idea is probably to make your own judgment and fill in the blanks yourself, but it also means that a lot of the things people take to be "fact" about pokemon can be disproved in at least one iteration of it if you want to use official sources. You can also be like me and disregard all that the franchise says, mostly because none of it is consistent and they want to portray a child friendly atmosphere. Strangely enough, the only thing I don't question is the type chart, even though it has it's own flaws.

Rhydon can also learn surf despite having a 4x weakness to water. I always thought that was weird. Wouldn't the Rhydon hurt itself by doing that?

I've always thought that it's not the element itself that hurts a Pokémon, it's just the elemental attack. Phanpy for example. It's an elephant. Elephants are known for being cute and bathing themselves and their young with their trunks. I'm sure Donphan and Phanpy do this as well. In my own head canon, they aren't hurt by bathing in rivers, or eating grass. Or even going to play in the snow. But they are hurt by Water-type attacks. If that makes sense...

Bathrooms.

How do Pokemon go? And the fact that no facility to date in the Pokemon games has a bathrooms/restrooms.

Really.

That goes the same to every single human being in the game. They are all filthy and disgusting (pun included) ;-)

And you can say the same thing to every single video games in the whole world with only a few exception that one can count with their own fingers......
