Forced to progress a certain way, whether its choosing a certain character, equipping certain items, using a specific attack.

A game becoming unwinnable because you unknowingly made a mistake or the developers made an oversight.

forgetting to save and then turning the game on again and suprise! it didn’t save the fact that you got past a specific checkpoint and you have to do a boss battle again and you lose twice again.

this happened when i was playing Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee. i beat the water-type gym, didn’t save, turned off my nintendo switch, turned on the game again a day later and i had to re-beat misty.

Trying to get an NPC to somewhere you want. I did this today in Minecraft where I was trying to get a Villager to my base via a minecart, I just needed a librarian whom I can obtain a Mending book through trading so I can have unlimited amounts of the enchantment available.

Escort missions where the character you are escorting does not try to help in any way at all.
Even worse imo is when they do actively try to help, but they're just so underpowered that they're just putting themselves into danger by choosing to go fight. Escort missions in PMD spring to mind.

When people say something is non canon or not a good game just because they don’t like it.

like it’s the compamy’s game, it’s their canon.
This is especially my problem when somebody talks about Splatoon canon related to the player characters themselves.

If you get protesters on Planet Zoo for animal welfare reasons, they tend to take the staff paths even though those are reserved only for Zoo staff. I'm not sure if Frontier did that on purpose or not. Hopefully it's an unintended glitch on their part. I'm pretty good about fixing any animal welfare problems I might have, because it's just something really brief and easy, but still...

It depends on the game in question. Something that usually annoys me is when you lose a lot of progress after dying due to being able to save only in certain parts (happened some times in Persona 5 for example). Or having to kill the boss all over again if you die during a raid in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

I've been playing Final Fantasy X, and, like, I don't super mind a high encounter-rate, especially since games that do so are usually balanced around the EXP you gain from that many encounters, but one specific area has just been a massive hallway with not much interesting happening and encounters every 30 seconds and it's kinda obnoxious. Like, it's not even an interestingly shaped hallway like Mushroom Rock Road. It's just a straight fucking line 90% of the time.

You would hate Yang's bonus dungeon in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, and I wouldn't blame you for that.

Save file slots being restricted. I won't even get started on games that only possess one save file (yeah, looking at you Pokemon)

But for example a game like Fire Emblem: Three Houses. There were many different characters to have an ending game sequence with, but when that had first come out there were so few save slots that you couldn't complete the game with every character maxed out and keep those endings.

This might sound weird, but extra lives. If you die, you redo the segment you died in, but if you run out of lives, you have to start over and trek all the way there again.
