Things you want to see done in Pokemon Gen 8 (2019)

proper under water battles in Pokkén Tournament for water pokemon? imagine it.
ghost theoretically also could do it, some steel types and grass types too.

New Eeevelutions and/or Elemental Monkeys pls--I can't get enough of these little guys
Also a pre-evolution to the Monkeys?

More megas pls
I would love to see Mega Eeveelutions or something upgraded forms for Eeveelutions (but not basic Eevee because he had already got an exclusive Z-Move) Mega Glaceon with increased Special Attack and Speed? Mega Vaporeon with buffed speed stats to make him competitive?

  • Bring back the difficulty settings from BW2. Personally, I don't mind playing on easy mode, but I know people want those back so do it
  • 100-120 new Pokemon. I think the first main series game to be on a Nintendo console, instead of a handheld, should really pull out a good amount of Pokemon.
  • I would like to see other pokemon from other generations in main game, but if that is not a thing, then put that dex number up higher. And if they do put only gen 8 pokemon in the main game, at least have the post game offer more pokemon from outside of the region.
  • I want my Exp. Share from gen 6 and gen 7, and I want it early, before the first gym/trial. Now, I do understand that there were people who thought this made the game too easy, that's why they had the ability to turn it off. But to appease this group of people completely, have there be an option that the exp share can only go to one Pokemon, and then it will be held item that you can place on whatever Pokemon you desire, like it was in older generations. This way people who don't want to use it at all are happy, people who want the ability to put it on one pokemon are happy, and people who want it to be on all pokemon are happy. Everyone is happy, got it?
  • Pokemon following you makes a comeback. This is a big one, this is a really big one. We got just a taste of it again (at least for those who played Let's Go) this year, and it was a great thing. For every game it is in I feel like it helps make the game so much more immersive and so much more fun. Let's Go also gave you the option to not take Pokemon out of the Pokeball, so for those who don't like this feature, I'm sure this is something they would keep if they had following Pokemon again.
  • Wild Pokemon in the overworld. This was another thing that made Let's Go so much more immersive and made wild encounters so much more fun. If you wanted to catch wild Pokemon, you would run into one. If you wanted to avoid them, you did just that. It makes things like caves and water routes much more tolerable to get through, and it was really cool to see.
  • Trainer Customization, and so much of it. I want boys and girls to have an equal amount of options, and I'd like to see their be a more variety of options. I was somewhat dissapointed when there were no dress options in Gen 7 for the girls.
  • I want a story on par with Sun and Moon's story. That was such an interesting story, and I loved the characters so much. I don't think I've ever liked a story as much as that one. And so many of the trial captains and island kahunas had such good character depth. Nanu's character was a personal favorite.
  • Speaking of story, I want some cutscenes. Pokemon, you now have been given the technical power of the Switch. You impressed me with Sun and Moon's cutscenes, but I want to see what you can do with this piece of hardware.
  • Horde Battles. Please horde battles, and more double battle trainers
  • New kinds of Pokeballs. Besides the Beast Ball, it's been a while since we got a new type of Pokeball. If horde battles being back, I would love to see a Pokeball that allows you to attempt to catch a Pokemon when it's in a horde.
Edit (thought of more):
  • I would love to see the region have a cooler climate, or at least a few areas that have a cooler climate.
  • Bringing back the generation 6 Pokemon Center design where you could change the clothes customization (not buy, just change) in the center. Made it nice so if I was in a town without a shop, I could still change clothes. That was a tad bothersome in Sun and Moon where I had to be somewhere with a clothing store.
  • Different family past, and maybe more involvement from said family. In nearly every single Pokemon game except for Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire, the player has a mom and that it is it. In the games mentioned above, the player had the mom figure but also a dad in the picture, who was the leader of a gym. I thought that was so cool when I learned about that. I know it's something so little, but seeing your family being more than just your mom, or someone different than your mom, is a really cool idea. And maybe give them a little more character, or something they could do. In most games, it just feels like mom is wasted character space. Let's try something different
  • Gym leaders/elite 4/champion teaming up with you or meeting you during the course of the game. I always love when games include this, it's just so cool to see them outside of that battle setting.
  • Give me my gosh darn jerk rival back. Okay, Gladion was a breath of fresh air when it came to rivals. But now I want to see an even better jerk rival. I want to be able to see them in game, and dread going up to them because I now they are going to challenge me in a battle. I want them to pop out of nowhere and challenge me. I want them standing in front of the Pokemon center after a long route, ready for a battle. I want a gosh darn Gary Oak.

I don't like the jerky rivals which are one-dimensional. Unless the jerky rival has good traits, then I will consider.

Also, bring in editable nicknaming feature like in Let's Go. I hate how we need to head to Name Rater in certain areas (even in USUM) before LGPE.

Oh yeah, I completely agree. The rival has to have some good reasons for being a jerk, and there has to be more too him than just butt. Gary had that, they just weren't that transparent.

I actually don't want any new mechanics. I want this generation to focus on the new mechanics introduced in the 3DS generations and build on them. I want new megas, new regional variants, new exclusive z-moves even (if it makes sense). For the revisits of older regions, they really have to do away with HMs and implement rental ride Pokemon.

a very strong pokemon on Slaking or Wishiwashi level stats like that would have a ability that say readuces all damage 50%
but makes it "weak" to sound moves and after gettting hit by one let's say it can't move or becomes always confused.

-I'm not really interested in an open world pokemon game. What I'm more interested in is life breathed into bigger, more expansive routes and other areas. Make sure the routes aren't just 'obvious straight line to next location'. Of course there will be some path worn into the ground with how many trainers pass through, but give some space where it still looks more natural. Having wandering pokemon with a bit more behavior than what's in LGPE.
-Of course, pokemon following is a must at this point. At least give us the option to have someone follow us.
-As much as I love it, maybe removing the ability to cure status ailments in a refresh like system would be for the best. Or at the very least change it so you're actually using an item on your pokemon while doing so. As much as I love not having to buy antidotes, paralysis heals, and what not it seems a little bit OP. And perhaps grooming pokemon in such a system would increase friendship as well as affection points since grooming services usually increase friendship anyway.
-I miss the pokeathlon. I loved those little minigames I thought they were so interesting and it was really fun to have a way to raise a pokemon that didn't involve focus on what moves it knows. Since we don't really have a touch screen outside of an undocked switch (and it'd be unfair for people who prefer playing in docked mode like me) they could make some minigames you don't need the touch pad feature to place. Like games that were in Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2.
-Bring back secret bases! I love creating a little mini house of sorts for my player to hang out in. Just let us fill the dang thing to the brim with stuff if we so desire. Maybe even have it attached to the pokepelago like system so we can go there at any time. We'd start out with a small little hideaway but eventually could expand it like the islands. We could buy decorations like usual in stores around the region however there could be another way to get other items as well...
-Instead of Casinos and gambling, make an arcade/fairgrounds with games that regardless of how you do you get some amount of tickets. But the better you do the more tickets you earn. And you can then use those tickets to buy things like evolution stones, more silly accessories for your character, or decorations for a base like rarer pokedolls, posters, or other things like a pc and a pokemon healing machine (obviously these would be the more expensive items). That would, when combined with the above idea of being able to travel to a base like you can the pokepelago, appease those who want instant access to the PC! It's just that you have to work hard to earn it instead of just being able to use the PC anywhere and everywhere.
-I'd love an expansion on the photography that was in Alola. Maybe allow us to take pictures wherever we are and move around on a route. Bring back the tiptoeing to approach pokemon from ORAS. With the photo club maybe add changes like allowing us to take pictures with multiple pokemon. Changing up the system of course because gods was it annoying trying to position my player and the pokemon. Let someone decide for themselves if it's necessary to move the subjects further apart. Clipping in such a scenario is NOT that big a deal and if someone wants to do something that might cause clipping they can change it up as they see fit.

That's what I got for now.

So every time I think of something I'd like to see next gen, I can't write it down at that moment. And forget. Not this time!

I'd like it if in wild battles, flavour text would clue you in on a pokemon's nature. Either through something that's specific to each nature, or by something that indicated a lowered/heightened stat. So for example, 'X used MOVE. But it isn't very fast...', hinting that its nature lowers its speed stat. It's kinda helpful, cause you don't to catch and check all the time, plus it gives a little personality to your encounters

This actually gives me a crazy idea. Maybe we can just view the opposing Pokemon's summary in battle altogether. I mean, let's deconstruct this for a minute, is there any reason why that kind of information needs to be kept secret in the first place? That just seems like artificial difficulty to have to catch a Pokemon just to see if you want it.

That's not a bad idea, though I personally prefer flavour text. I dunno, something about it strikes me as 'artificial', if that makes sense? Especially as GF has been trying to make pokemon more life-like over the generations. Like, you can't know everything about a pokemon until you catch it and it doesn't reach full potential till you spend time with it (EVs, friendship, affection)

Well, they could have the Pokedex serve that role. That would make sense in universe, they've used the Pokedex for that purpose in the anime and it'd be nice to have a similar function in the games.

That's another thing I want to see, more utility for the Pokedex. Just having it show you a blurb about the species, its habitat, cry, and forms isn't all that useful. Let's see it show things like moves, abilities, base stats, egg groups, etc. That would make it much, much more useful.

Oh! How about at the start of battle when you get "wild [x] appeared", it's followed by a nature related message. Like..

"Wild Sentret Appeared! It timidly looks at you."
"Wild Flabebe appeared! It gives a jolly laugh!"
"Wild Machop appeared! I calmly looks you over."

When I wrote the post I thought this might be too on the nose, but I guess not really XD I like it!

Only downside is that it doesn't indicate stat increase/reduction, so you'd still have to remember/look that up

I would very much like that. And it would so have made sense if Rotom Dex had done that kind of stuff... but alas

I hope the type specialist trainers (gym leaders, Elite 4, trial captains, whatever we end up with in these games) are as memorable as characters as the ones in Sun and Moon. I felt they really did a good job at incorporating most of them into the story and actually giving them a role. I couldn't even tell you who most of the Kalos Gym leaders are, or who the Kalos Elite 4 were. I think it was much more meaningful to come to the Elite 4 and have battles with people you knew (except Kahili) who also teach you something.

For all the flaws Gen 7 had, I loved how title defense was introduced. Instead of fighting the former champion again and again, you now sit on your throne and someone comes to challenge you. I love it. It makes you feel like an actual champion. I would love for it to be expanded upon. Just please don't remove it GF. Or I'll despise the game solely for that.
