Things you want to see done in Pokemon Gen 8 (2019)

I hope the type specialist trainers (gym leaders, Elite 4, trial captains, whatever we end up with in these games) are as memorable as characters as the ones in Sun and Moon. I felt they really did a good job at incorporating most of them into the story and actually giving them a role. I couldn't even tell you who most of the Kalos Gym leaders are, or who the Kalos Elite 4 were. I think it was much more meaningful to come to the Elite 4 and have battles with people you knew (except Kahili) who also teach you something.
I don't wanna call it disappointing, cause I enjoyed those battles, and from a story perspective it made sense, but the fact they're type repeats of 'previous' challengers was a bit of a let-down. At least with Olivia and Hala, cause the other two you don't battle. But I dunno, I also like the E4 to be a bit of a surprise? Though they could def make them more memorable, either during the main game or in post-game

This is such a long shot but it'll be so amazing if in-game evolution looked like this:

I always wanted evolution to look like this! My interest in Pokemon began with the anime, and I was really disappointed as a child when in-game evolutions ended up being much more simpler than the anime.

This might be a small thing, but I would like the option to release multiple Pokémon at a time. With my Pokémon Bank and all 3DS in game boxes filled to the brim, it's difficult to keep catching or breeding (one of my favorites things) more Pokémon. Currently, it takes quite a while to release every single Pokémon one by one, since you have to confirm every single one. Especially if you have boxes full of unwanted Pokémon, it takes forever to select them, confirm you want to release that Pokémon and watch the animation play of them getting sent out into the wild. An unnecessary and tedious chore that can be easily streamlined.

I haven't been able to play LGPE yet, so I don't know if those games already have this option.

Generation 8 Wish List

2019 – Main Game
New region set in the British Isles with 70+ new pokemon and 12 gyms of semi-optional sequence.
Storyline deals with the origins of fairy type Pokemon and the seelie and un-seelie courts.
Antagonists are a team of knights, specialising in steel type Pokemon and hinted to be colonisers.
A Team Flare led by Malva appears as anti-heroes.
A time-travel/dimension-hopping subplot involving the Big Ben, Looker, Celebi, Palkia and Dialga.

Starters also based on the British colonies (Grass: Indian langur, water: Singaporean merlion)
Two sets of pseudo legendaries, one bug type and one fairy type.
New megas and new regional variants for Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh Pokemon, 2 new ultra beasts.
No Kanto pokemon in game except for gifted Pikachu and Eevee.

2020 – Let’s Go 2 Johto
Let’s Go remakes of Crystal with Pikachu and Eevee as mascots again.
Wild battles, abilities, hold items and cross-generation evolutions returns. Catch feature is retained but it can be toggled off.

New Johto exclusive z-moves.

2021 Summer – Kanto x Johto sequel
A dual-region sequel set in Kanto and Johto after the events of USUM and the 2019 main games.
Open world. Plot depends on which NPC you chose to follow (i.e. Lillie, Hau etc.).
New regional variants for Unova and Kalos pokemon, 1 new ultra beast.

Alternatively, I’ll settle for a simpler joint re-release of the LGPE/LG2J games with wild battles, abilities hold items and cross-generation evolutions back if these features aren’t already in the LG2J games.

2021 Winter – Diamond Pearl remakes
Story revised to tie up all the multiverse issues.
New megas, new regional variants, new rotom forms, 1 new ultra beast making a grand total of 13.

Generation 8 Wish List

  • At least around 100 new Pokemon for the game.
  • Bring back Cross-Gen evolutions, since a lot of Pokemon need stuff like this but don't need a Mega Evolution(looking at you Dunsparce).
  • I would enjoy an England based region a lot.
  • Expanded Customization. The male options in Sun and Moon sucked, and they still need lots lots more in either gender.
  • If we get a new Mega or Z device, can we customized that as well? It’s stupid that we get a bracelet three times in a row, and then NPC’s and even anime characters get these awesome variants; like, Lysandre’s actual Mega Ring, Steven’s Mega Pin, Wally’s Mega Pendant, Archie’s and Maxie’s, and Zinnia’s really cool Mega spiral. Why do we get stuck with a bracelet?
  • A good story model after BW/B2W2 and SM.
  • Way bigger post game, just to gives us something to do unlike XY and SM.
  • Can we just get rid of two versions? Does it matter at this point since there’s been very very few differences in previous games version(barring SM/USUM’s day/night mechanics).
  • STOP WITH THE KANTO PANDERING! Gen 1 is not the only the region, it is not the only generation of Pokemon that matters. It's where we started everything off but it didn't make what everything is about Pokemon. XY: you get a free Kanto starter, you get a Lapras, most of the Mega's in that game are from Kanto. Sun and Moon; Your character is from Kanto, most of the Pokemon you find in are from Kanto, the regional variants are only from Kanto, Lillie and Gladion go to Kanto at the end of the SM/USUM, Red and Blue freaking appear for no reason, Oak has a freakin Alolan form, most of the ride Pokemon are from Kanto. Rainbow Rocket, yes I know there are other teams but it’s still dominated by Rocket members when they could of uses grunts from every team but NO it has to be all Team Rocket. Even SIX KANTO POKEMON as Smash Fighters. WHEN WILL IT STOP!?
  • STOP F***ING SHOVING PIKACHU DOWN OUR THROATS!! I don’t care Pikachu is the mascot!! We do not need it forced down our throats. Seriously how much special attention Pikachu gets when it’s not even the main focus is so stupid. Being one of the playable characters of PokePark 2 and the only Kanto Pokemon out of all Unova Pokemon, five special costumes with exclusive moves in ORAS with no other Pokemon getting these, TWO fighter slots in Pokken, TWO exclusive Z move for no reason(And people say Z-Moves are supposed to be a non-exclusive Mega Evolution, I say otherwise), an entire park for it made in USUM that served no purpose, and that stupid story it had with Slowpoke and Pyukumuku(which should of been all Alolan Pokemon to be honest). Plus how much merchandise it shouldn’t have, like the wearing coats model after Mega Evolutions when they should go to I don’t know THEIR RESPECTIVE POKEMON!? There’s probably more, but I don’t know.

For me, there are a couple things that I want to see, but the most important one is changing the camera of the game. I've gotten bored of the fixed bird's eye view.

It's 2019, I want to see Pokemon having a camera like Super Mario Odyssey, or like the modern PS4/XBOX/PC games of AC Odyssey, RDR2 etc.

People don't realise the effect a camera can have - it can make the game feel much more alive and immersive. Most notably, a fully-rotational 3D camera would make the games appear a lot more 'open-world' than they already are.

  • Return of the Pokemon World Tournament for the postgame battle facility, complete with the return of old playable characters/gym leaders/elite four/champions from previous entries for fan service,
  • Optional higher difficulty mode from the beginning.
  • Return of gyms but in a different way. The first few gyms could be based on types (basically to introduce players to the rock-paper-scisssors relationship with types), but the latter gyms would focus on strategies (how to break a staller, baton pass teams, etc.). Nothing you can’t overcome with grinding as there wouldn’t be a level cap like the battle facilities, but something that makes the game less easy even if you have a diverse team.
  • Better topography. Part of this is due to isometric view in previous entries, but I want a more varied landscape. Pokemon habitats could be really fleshed out with the power of the Switch.
  • As mentioned by other users, let’s use side quests for mythicals and other legends. Use the Pokémon themselves to build the lore of the region and encourage back tracking for something other than hatching eggs.

alot of the stuff i want to see are already mentioned by people, but i was just thinking today what i would like to see in gen8 or sometime in the future that perhaps the region would fit best with.
I would like to see a large chocolate factory to explore and battle trainers in and perhaps find a few wild pokemon in. just something off to the side of a main route or something. I just think it would be something fun. preferably not part of the main story but more of a side thing of its own.
I really would like to see more off the road exploring areas honestly. perhaps with their own "side stuff".

Yes :) :) While I am fully uncertain of what wiouldactually be possible, adding full topography to Gen 8 to really complete the original idea of exploring nature and learning about/finding Pokemon, that had not really be possible to represent until now, it would be a very good idea!!

Yes, LGPE does give you the mechanic to release up to like 30 or so Pokemon at once I believe (would like it to be more, but that is way better than before). It is noteworthy though that the box system is a little different in LGPE. It's more similar to that of Pokemon Go where all the Pokemon are just in one big box that you can sort by name or when caught or whatever, and Pokemon Go allows you to release more than one Pokemon at a time. So yes, it is something that LGPE has implemented, but it's also because of the Go Mechanics.

I completely agree with you, the main series games need to have this option. It is such a good option and makes releasing Pokemon so much more convenient for the player, and I really hope its a feature that's in the main series games. Makes your life way more convenient.

I want to see more Pokemon out of their Pokeballs and around with their people. Generation 7 really felt like for the first time that Pokemon are for more than just trainers, they are for everyone else too. I want to be able to see that all around the region. Construction people working with Machamp and Conkeldurr. Nurse Joys with their signature adorable pink medicine pokemon (Audino, Chansey, Blissey, if they do a new one). I want to see normal everyday town folk walking down the path with their Pokemon like they are taking them out on a walk. Alola is the first region to really every feel like people and Pokemon are really connected, and I want to be able to see that again. I want to see more of it.

I just remembered three things I want to see return in gen 8. They're minor, but important.
  • Let us sit on chairs and benches again. My butt needs a little rest sometimes
  • Give us back TV. I don't want to watch endless malasada commercials, and neither do the people of Alola
  • Flavour text for objects in the overworld. There was disappointingly little of it in SuMo and USUM was comparatively better, but still lacking... Is it that difficult to at least give fake doors a prompt that says something like "Nope, it's locked!" and if it's a door that will open later, or needs a key, add something like "Maybe with the right key?". Same for displays, a lot of stuff is so purely aesthetic with no reason for interaction ever. I feel like there are entire buildings you barely have to visit in SuMo and definitely don't have to return to, cause they're only there to be pretty

Actually, there's another, bigger thing I'd like to see in gen 8. Less copy-paste of models and interiors. Gen 7 had great character designs. I loved the captains and the kahunas, and I won't complain about grunts or normal trainer classes either. The designs were nice. But some of em got repeated so often... Like, the female Golfers were just Beauties holding a golf stick, and Twins were just Preschoolers (while previously they always had a unique model). Like, there is something nice and interesting about different trainer classes looking like each other, and their class simply being determined by their activity, but it also feels a bit like I'm walking around in a world full of clones. But do it like for example the Sr. and Jr./Teammates class, who visibly share a lot of similarities with the Lass trainer class, without being a copy-paste

Well, the Twins thing is kinda justified since they are not an unique trainer, it's more of a team name. I don't know why they did that, which fooled me since I thought I could battle each of them individually (which would have been a blessing in my only one Pokémon challenges).

On the clone thing: I guess you're just starting to notice it. Replaying the older games made me notice how much they reused sprites. One of the things I noticed in X/Y was that some overworld models were actually palette swaps of each other. It's a general problem of RPGs, though.

Eh, I've been with the franchise for ages, and sure, it's always been a thing. And that's fine. Somehow, it just became more noticeable in gen 7, hence the examples. And I don't mean that a pair of twins should differ from each other, they're twins after all and implied to bed identical. But compare even one generation earlier and you'll see that this is the first time to use the Preschooler model for Twins, rather than a unique one. And there are four different trainer classes sharing the model for the Office Worker! And really, no complaints about the designs themselves, because those are nice, but it just feels like GF really was cutting corners in gen 7 in certain ways. Like, even a palette swap can already make a difference
