The Z-Form discussion is...tricky as we have no real parameter for what it will entail and how it would activate. With the inclusion of the Z-Crystals (of course this is assuming they'd use the Z-Crystals) it would be inherently similar to mega evolution in that revolves around the use of a held item. However, OR/AS gave us Mega Rayquaza, a mega without a mega stone/held item. Maybe it's me over thinking on this, but Mega Rayquaza could have been a test for form changes with large stat increases that is not based around a held item, but instead on moves a Pokemon would know, and how that could be integrated into play without it being "broken" or exploitable.
A Z-Transformation revolving around the Z-Crystal would not be any different to mega evolution in anything but lore. But what about a transformation around whether the Pokemon knows a Z-Move. Though that does raise the issue of a Z-Form & a Z-Move all in one Pokemon...a very high risk/high reward strategy that could end up being somewhat broken dependent upon the Pokemon they're given to. Perhaps the Z-Transformation would prevent the usage of the Z-Move? Maybe you can only use the energy of your Z-Crystals in one of two ways in a battle, a bit like how you can only activate one mega stone per battle.
Although this is all speculation...but back to Z-Moves for a second: In Gen VI games, whenever you activate a mega evolution, the first time you do so each time you load your game, your player will tap the crystal on their armlet and the full animation will play. Each time after until you quit the game, only the transformation will be shown. I wonder if the same will apply to Z-Moves, in that you won't have to sit through the full posing for the Z-Moves after the first use, it'll go straight to your Pokemon using the move? I'm a little doubtful of it, as the pose does seem to be important to the whole procedure.
