Trailers and News Discussion

The Japanese trailer even gave us an ass shot of Olivia. xD Stay classy, Japan.

YESSSSSSSSSS! DRAGON/FIGHTING TYPE! Oh, man, I'm so happy. We were all basically split on whether it'd be Steel or Fighting and I'm so glad it's the latter. The design however... I dunno, I was honestly a little more underwhelmed than I'd hoped. Maybe it'll grow on me, maybe I need to see it a bit more in-game.

Silvadi is something I honestly never expected. I mean, I knew we'd get Type:Null without the mask to unleash its full power but I was 99% certain it'd be a form change, distributed through event. Granted, it's not the first man-made Pokemon to evolve, but still... I'm also not too sure about the drastic change in the name. What the hell's a "silvadi"?

Cutiefly's evo's cool. Not too excited about it. Same with Bounsweet's evo. I'm soon going to forget it even exists. Rule 34's gonna have some fun with it, I'm sure.

I was a little skeptical about A-Grimer at first. But A-Muk is so shiny. I think I'll go hug it.

Was laughing out loud when A-Muk popped up, that thing looks awesome. Jangmo'o-line looks better in motion than in the scans. Still undecided if I'm gonna use it in my main playthrough, but still way better.

On a personal sidenote: The grass-types designs in this Gen are superior to the rest so far.

Now where's our Alolan Persian. I mean we freaking got Muk already what's the deal come on
It could be non-existence. The reason I thought Alolan Meowth doesn't evolve in the first place is because of team Rocket Meowth. Just like Alolan Marowak is a tribute of the ghost in Gen I. Alolan Meowth could be the tribute of team Rocket Meowth, which is Dark to reference an evil team and team Rocket Meowth doesn't evolve.

I've already given my thoughts on Silvally and Jangmo-o's evolutions but they all look even better in motion. Also RKS System is totally supposed to sound like Arceus System!

Bounsweet's evolutions are kinda meh. Not that I dislike them but Chareena feels too similar to Liligant. Plus it's the second feminine-looking pure Grass-type we got this gen so it doesn't really stand out in my head.

Ribombee is a little underwhelming for a final stage. I was hoping Cutiefly would evolve twice. It has a nice design but I can't help but feel it's gonna be extremely weak.

Alolan Muk is better than Grimer but still meh. Oh well, I never cared much about them anyway. Its backstory is decent, apparently it changed form because it was fed garbage instead of polluted sludge.

i loved the trailer but i was really hoping for pikipeck's evolution and alolan persian (which i hope meowth evolves). but oh well its only 4 days until demo release afterall! :D

Anyone thinks that Olivia may be related to Grant. They have the similar looks, same skin tone, and their names are both based on fruits.

I've made up my mind, I'll nickname A-Muk as CMRM which stands for Crystal Mystic Rainbow Muk. On the subject of the new evos:

  • I absolutely LOVE Jangmo-o's evolutions! The scales definitely make them stand out the most in my opinion, and the fact that it's signature move is based around them is really cool.
  • Both Stenee and Ribombee are adorable, though Tsareena is okay-ish in my opinion.
  • Needless to say, Silvally is amazing. It's a synthetic Arceus that looks like a goddamn griffin, I love it.
All in all I loved this trailer, we are so close to the demo's release, I can't cointain myself.

Ilima is serving us androgynous realness and I'm living for it.

Olivia has a Z-ring on her arm too. Kahunas beyond Hala confirmed to use Z-Moves.

Edit: Main website confirms that Type: Null/Silvally are said to have been made to oppose a threat. Given Ultra Beasts were described as a threat, my guess is Silvally was created to combat the Ultra Beasts. Maybe the Aether Foundation made it, and Team Skull stole it?

In alola, toxic sludge comes with handy warning colors and waning displays.

Not looking forward to the Tsarina fan art. But looking at it, it's kind of the new "fashionmon". Gardevoir (royalty), Gothitelle (goth loli), and Tsarina is kind of...Lady Gaga-ish or a mix between the two and Princess goth. I only say this due to the pigtailed middle stage.

So, the Kahunas are included in the type specialist list, although that makes no sense for what someone said Hala has, although that makes it more likely he is the Fighting type people suspected, and also that Ilima is the only Captain on Melemele. I cannot find where Olivia is challenging you on the map, just that it's at the base of a mountain.

Love the subtlety of the "RKS System" name. Silvally as a whole is pretty great. The official site continues to hint at its purpose: "Silvally is said to have been created to oppose a threat..." Ultra Beasts seem the likely guess. If Gladion is related to Lusamine, then yeah. Aether researches Ultra Beasts > Aether creates Silvally/Type: Null to combat them > Gladion defects and takes Type: Null with him.

Hakamo-o (I really like that name) and Kommo-o... well, their in-game models do like quite nice, although last night I pinpointed a specific issue I have with them, is their arms, which look very blob-ish and lack very distinct joints. Given their length and then their large hands, this makes them look somewhat odd. But on the whole, yeah, pretty good designs. I am intrigued by Kommo-o's official site description:

> "There is a legend that says Kommo-o is covered in glittering scales in order to drive away a great darkness covering the world. The reason these Pokémon seek out battle is to gain the power needed to defeat this darkness."

It also says,

> "When it detects someone approaching, this Pokémon rings the scales on its tail to announce its presence. It has no desire to battle against weak Pokémon."

... which should dispel any doubt that the monk staff was hinting at Kommo-o. Monks who carried those staves had rings attached to them, so that when they walked, the jangling would warn away any small creatures on the ground.

Ribombee's a solid evolution for Cutiefly, but I don't have much more to say about it. It's good.

I love Steenee and Tsareena. Not at all what I was expecting from Bounsweet, but it worked out very well.

Alolan Muk is crazy, with those shimmering rainbow colors. I'm a big fan of Muk and I'm pretty happy with this. The "story explanation" for it on the site is very simple in comparison to the other Alola Forms thus far, but it makes enough sense. I am, however, beginning to doubt that Guzma will use one, as Muk seems to drop the resemblance to him that Grimer had.

Ilima, good design. Super androgynous, but hey, I'm all for it. I noticed that his Trial Captain charm is colored in on the "northern" segment, just like all of the other Captains, so it seems as though the charms do not indicate which island the Captains are located on.

Olivia, oh man. Brilliant design (well, except for the shoes), immediately radiating an aura of power and confidence. And I'm glad to see a Kahuna that's very different in style from Hala. It's nice to get a sense of how different they might be from one another.

Considering Kommo-o's signature move looks like a special attack, I'm totally hoping it is more of a special than a physical attacker. I mean, how many Fighting-types with higher Sp. Atk than Attack do we have so far? Just regular Lucario and Keldeo? We need more!

I'm just still sad that they changed Arceus' name's English pronounciation, even though that ability name is really very clever. I've always pronounced it "Arseus" and I don't think that I can stop (I know why they changed it, but Dang if I care that Pokemon god has the word 'arse' in its name)

Anyway!!! Now that we know that Silvally is definitely supposed to tie into Arceus story-wise, I'm hoping we'll be getting more cross-generational lore!!!!

Yes, Kommo-o could be special based attacker, however, I think it isn´t, since the official site says its uppercut is itis stronger weapon, and that sounds quite physical xD

As someone who has used the "ar-KEE-us" pronunciation for a long time now (and prefers it), I actually have physical difficulty in trying to say "ar-SEE-us." :p

But amen to that. :D

I'm not a fan of the name RKS System, because it's further pushing the fact that Arceus' is pronounced officially as "Ark-ee-us" in English and I don't like it. I know that was already established years ago, but still. I will never succumb to your silly localization ideas!

Anyway, I now have a head-canon that Arceus will punish the humans for trying to create a Pokemon rivaling his power and then he'll adopt Silvally as his own child.
