- My school banned YouTube and won't even let us use it during our free time (I could see if it was banned during class time). The best part is- they have never bothered to but a block on it

It's not unfair. We go to school to learn, not to mess around on the internet.

Why do you need youtube at school? your supposed to be learning

At least Bulbagarden can be used at the schools. XD. But seriously. I can understad why sites like Youtube, MySpace etc. are banned. It interferes in our learning experience.

Not at my school, Bulbagarden is banned there, and if i use a proxy, they know!

Aw, diddums! </sarcasm>

Seriously, you should be surprised that it wasn't banned in the first place. At my school we're linked to the council's school internet censorship network which unlike blocking youtube, is unfair. Seriously, try doing your RE homework when you get a message saying "Blocked for Occult, Folklore and Non-Traditional Religions".

Those who complain about sites being blocked at school obviously don't understand the purpose of the place. -.-

We really have no horrible rules, but I have a few select grievances:

-Our grading scale isn't the conventional 10-point scale. 96% is the smallest A and 65% is the smallest D. Seriously. Harvard uses a 10-point grading scale. For some reason beyond my comprehension, the powers-that-be have this idea that a stricter grading scale = more motivation, when the opposite is true. Colleges don't go that deep past GPA, so with the way our grading scale works a student can have a better grade than that of a student on a ten point grading scale, and still not get accepted before that student with a lesser grade.

-Our attendance policy allows 5 non-doctor-excused absences, after that, the detentions are handed out. Then Isolated Instruction, then. . .wait for it. . .suspension. The first two punishments are fine in my book, but after that they punish those who miss school by kicking them out.

If you really want to go to a site that has nothing to do with school you might be able to go on Cartoon Network but make sure you get the United Kingdom version or it won't work.

Schools rules I find unfair:

No Cell Phones: I usually don't care but what if there is an emergency and the teachers aren't around. How are we suppose to call for help and the electricity's out in the entire school.

School Library: When I had to do a report uding just books they didn't have the person I anted.

No more recess at lunch: May I say more.

Oh please, what are the odds there is going to be an emergency during a school-wide black out and absolutely no teachers anywhere and that students would be smart enough to actually use a cell phone for emergencies? Really, when there's a blackout, the administration usually went around the school.

You use it for in-class presntations, though that's why its not blocked on teacher accounts.

Of course, its annoying when you go to the library to use the computers to do work and all the computers are full of dumbasses playing games. They need to get a DS or PSP because those things aren't banned unless using them in class (same with cell phones, ipods and mp3s, but we can use music players if the teacher's done teaching)

I probably am the only person to say this but,

No PDA. i mean, why block it?

And no cell phones ticks me off.

What's annoying is that we're not supposed to use cell phones and iPods during class, but kids use them all the time and the teachers never do anything.

If they make such a big deal about these things not being allowed, then they should freaking enforce it.

I said in my post that I can understand if they banned it being used during classtime but I don't understand them barring us from using it during our personal breaks. The library at my school allows us to use the internet for personal reasons in the morning before classes and during our breaks. Apparently, the rule only ends at us students- I saw the librarian technician using YouTube during class time

My school library also enforces the "English ONLY websites" rule. What if one day some of us need to use an NON ENGLISH website for a project?

My gym teacher has a rule of 10 pushups if you swear, yet whenever people yell out profanities, he never actually does anything

People have gotten around the Facebook block and the school has done nothing about it. Talk about easier said than done

~My school banned Pokémon.com, I understan why, but whenever someone goes to the site it reads ''Blocked for pornography, this account has been reported, how do you like that pervert'' (yes, it actually says ''how do you like that pervert''

~The school uniform MUST be worn at all times, even in the middle of summer.

They blocked things like youtube in the college I go to, but some of us found a way round it by using the IP address of youtube rather than typing the name of the website, funny they never noticed that, but still, if things like this in schools were allowed, not much learning would take place at all.

first on the pervert thing, wow, thats not a great thing to be saying, espically if its the schools message when something gets blocked.

And I can understand about school uniform, when I was in my first college, about 10 years ago, I was in it for 5years and we had to wear a thick wool blazer at all times, even when it was hot, that was very uncomfortable, even if you left school, if a teacher from the school saw you without it on, (and I know this happened to some people at the school who took blazer off after school) they shout and say "Your demeaning the image of the school, put your blazer back on!"

I had one teacher who did this more so than others, glad I don't wear a uniform anymore and can wear whatever I want to school

lol blocking Pokemon.com for pornography, then again, there is the issue with people and Gardevoirs :p

School rules I find unfair:

* Attendance being fucking compulsory up until a certain year

* No fucking chewing gum allowed

* No food in fucking class

* Having to ask for permission to go to the fucking toilets

* Doing shit which is insanely fucking irrelevant and which can't be beneficially applied to our daily lives in some way

Pokemon websites are not banned at my school and compulsory school attendance during free blocks is actually not a requirement. I have a morning free block (from 8:45-10:15) on Day 1s (I usually sleep until 8AM on Day 1s) and an afternoon free block on Day 2s from 12:45-1:50.

While not a school-wide rule, in my Comp class, it's a deptarment rule that I can not miss 12 classes or I won't get credit for any course I take with them. And it's 12 even if you have an excuse (like long-term hospital illness), even with documents provided.
Other rule I dislike:
You can eat food at the campus library, just not in class, even if the professor is eating. XD

I can relate to that. Fortunately, the last time I had to wear a uniform was back when I was in kindergarten when I lived in Indianapolis. I went to one of those schools where you had to go all year round, and you got breaks every few months. But you had to wear the uniform during those breaks. The uniform for girls was a plaid skirt, collared shirt, and this extremely uncomfortable wool jacket. Worst part is, it was absolutely mandatory for girls to wear the skirt. And jacket at all times when they were in public. Yes, even for the litte 5-6 year old kindergarteners.

Needless to say, I was always too damn hot in the warmer months, and too fucking cold in the winter. I'm suprised I'm not frostbitten in my... Never mind.

Only one problem with internet blocking in my college. I am doing a computing course and our class gets access to every microsoft software and some of the sites that are blocked we actually need to do our work. Someone once hacked the server and bypassed the security policy. He must have had not much of a life to figure this out.

He noticed that the flashing light of the LED beside the network cable on the back of the PC shows when there is network activity, but he noticed that after a certain number of flashes from the light the security policy refresh itself or something so if you quickly unplugged and plugged back in the cable after the number of flashes from light, you could bypass the security and access everything on the main server of the college. He was found out and was made go to the technicians and tell them exactly what he done so they could stop this in future. won't be at it again I'll bet.
