Log #41-Lavender Town, Rock Tunnel, & The Power Plant
  • Heading east from Saffron City, I traveled across Route 8, taking on the Biker Federation and several other trainers. The S shaped pattern led me to Lavender Town. In the original Generation I games, this was known as the "Spooky music town", but is now home to the Radio Tower of Kanto. After meeting Mr. Fuji, I turned north going through Rock Tunnel.

    Rock Tunnel.jpg

Rock Tunnel is very dark inside. I gave Espeon Flash to get through it. There is a lot of Rock Climbable areas in this cave system. Once I got through Rock Tunnel (make sure to have repels for this), I arrived on northern Route 10. Turning south, I visited the Power Plant, where a cop met with me, telling me about a "shady person" that held a machine part connected to the Power Plant. Without the part, the Radio Tower and all electricity in Kanto is at risk. They asked me to stop the shady man. Why can't they come help me? Anyway, it looks like I have the major quest of Kanto.

In the next log, we will head to Cerulean, then go up through Nugget Bridge, continuing to level up in this time (Log #42). I will also get the Machine Part for the Power Plant. This should get me access to the Radio Tower & the Magnet Train (once I get the ticket from Copycat in exchange for her Pokedoll in Log #43). That will open up the Hunt for Latias (Log #44). Now you know what the next 3 Logs will look like, so I will see you soon!

    Log #42-Nugget & Silence Bridges
  • Before I get to the main set up of this log, I would like to start with the fact that I went to the Bug Catcher Contest to see if I could get a Shiny Stone. I caught another Scyther and won the contest, only to get a Thunderstone. That was majorly disappointing. I am still working to get a Shiny Stone. More Scythers in the future! Anyway, after I did that (and continued to go to Buena, since I am still working to fulfill my first Blue Card), I went to Cerulean City, immediately heading to Nugget Bridge.
    Nugget Bridge.jpg

I expected that the trainers would be on the Bridge, as they were in the Generations 1 & 3 Games. Instead, the Bridge was empty. I traveled across the Bridge, only to find the trainers on Route 25. There were supposed to only be 6 Trainers (they call themselves the "Bridge Challenge"). Instead there were 8 Trainers (6 were part of the challenge, then there was a nerd and then an ace trainer). Once I beat them all, I visited with Bill's Grandfather, who was in his house.

I found a misplaced Team Rocket Grunt, who clearly could not speak English. He did tell me where the Machine Part was, so I rushed to the Cerulean Gym to find it. Once I did at the Gym, then I chased him onto the Nugget Bridge, where I battled him. Once I beat him and got ownership of the part, I went back to the Power Plant, where I gave it up. Then I flew to the Lavender Radio Tower, where I got the Radio Card, allowing me to listen to the Radio in Kanto.

    Silence Bridge.jpg

Heading south from Lavender Town, I traveled along Silence Bridge. This Bridge has traditionally featured Snorlax on the Bridge, snoring away. For this game, however, the sleep specialist was missing. This allowed me to clear the entire Bridge, also gaining the last rod of the three. I think I am ready to go hunt down Latias (once I get Block back on my Sudowoodo). Before I do that, I will get the Pokedoll and the Magnet Train Pass from Copycat. The Pokedoll and Magnet Train Exchange from Copycat is the next Log. See you then!

Log #43-Copycat & The Fan Club
  • I did a few things before I started the Copycat event. First, I took the S. S. Aqua to Olivine City. Once in Johto, I flew to Goldenrod, getting another Password from Buena. I then flew to Blackthorn, replacing Strength with Block. Block will be very helpful against Latias, since I plan to use the same strategy I used for Entei & Raikou on Latias. Pin it down with Block, then lower the HP. If needed, I will paralyze it before trying to catch it. This is likely to be a protracted and drawn out search.

I then flew to Lavender Town, past Silence Bridge, where I battled on Kanto Route 13 and Kanto Route 14. Then I flew to Olivine. I stayed in Goldenrod, getting the last Buena's Password for the 30, receiving her number and a new card. I then took the S. S. Aqua again, though I was slightly hesitant to do so, thinking I should stay in Johto for the Bug Catching Contest, though I decided against it. The S. S. Aqua is a great place to level up.
    Copycat.jpg

Upon arriving in Vermilion City, I flew to Saffron, where I looked for the distinctive purple house, where I met Copycat, who was looking for her lost Clefairy Doll. This doll was given to her by Red 3 Years before, and she lost it during a family trip to Vermilion. I traveled down to Vermilion, on the errand to get it back. I found it in the Fan Club. Upon leaving it, I saw Steven Stone, who explained about Latias. Steven is Champion of Hoenn. He said he came to Johto to track down Latias. Before I decided to hunt down Latias, I delivered the Pokedoll to Copycat, who was enthusiastic for my help.

Latias is now out and about! The good thing about Latias is that it tends to go Route by Route. I want to keep Latias in Kanto, because if it gets to Johto, it will be a lot harder to pin down. The next log will feature the hunt for Latias. It spawned near Cinnabar Island, which is an area I have not been to yet. I read a guide that said the best place to hunt it down was Cerulean. Hopefully, it won't take me too long to get it. Hopefully I can get it faster than it took me to get Entei and Raikou, but they were both erratic in their movements, whereas Latias is not. In the next log, we will chronicle the hunt for the Eon bird. See you then!

Log #44-Hunting Latias, Misty, & Suicune
  • 380Latias_XY_anime.png

Well, it appears that my strategy to box it in didn't work. I hunted it through Cerulean, Celadon, and Fuchsia. Strangely, it was faster than even paralyzing with Thunderwave. With no real options, I threw the Master Ball. Latias isn't a bad Pokemon to use the Master Ball on honestly. After catching Latias, I ran into the Cerulean City Gym, ready to take on Misty.

    MistyEP.png

Her Gym was not that bad. I found it strange that they allow you to run around the pool. That is a known safety hazard. Anyway, her trainers were not too bad, and were a great preparation for Misty. Misty herself was the first Gym Leader that switched out in response to one of my Pokemon (Golduck for Ampharos). Her team is rather bulky, meaning I had to be start to take her down. My Togetic managed to take down Quagsire. used Espeon to take out her Starmie, which was a bit of a pain. Ampharos beat Lapras, then came Golduck, who was the Pokemon she switched. She stalled me out with Golduck. She used two Full Restores on it, but eventually Golduck fell. I won the 3rd Kanto badge of this quest.

    600px-245Suicune.png

After I battled Misty, I traveled back to the Cape. There Suicune was waiting for me, as was Eusine. I lowered Suicune's HP using Signal Beam, which confused it. I then used Thunderwave to Paralyze it and slow its reaction speed. Quite a few Ultra Balls later, I caught Suicune, finally taking the Beasts off the map. Now that I have opened up Celadon & Fuchsia Cities, I now have two Gyms I can take down. In the next log, we will face down Erika and Janine, Gyms 12 & 13 respectively. Until then, we will see you!

    Log #45-Erika & Janine
  • 600px-143Snorlax.png

Before I took on the two Gyms, I flew to Vermilion. Heading east, I found Snorlax, which I was able to wake up with the Pokeflute channel. I paralyzed it, then whittled the HP down, eventually catching it in a Heavy Ball, which is seemingly ideal for this purpose. Finally, I moved onto the Celadon Gym.
    275-2754243_pokemon-gym-leader-erika-hd-png-download.png

Erika's Gym was very challenging. The puzzle is very tough. You not only have to cut the trees (thanks Typhlosion), but you also have to beat the trainers in the Puzzle. If you don't come in with the right Pokemon, she can be a challenge if she is able to set up the sun. I opened up with Sudowoodo against her Jumpluff, which you might think was a bad move, but actually because of Jumpluff's typing, it was super effective. I switched to Gyrados to Ice Fang both Tangela (which was an OHKO) and her Victreebel, which was harder to take down due to its bulk. Eventually, Gyrados did take it down after taking significant damage. Staying in with Gyrados against Bellossom was surprisingly difficult, as Bellossom is bulky as well. Ice Fang didn't do enough, and unfortunately, it was able to set up the sun, eventually taking out Gyrados. Togetic was able to beat the speed of Solarbeam by the use of Fly, though it did get hit by it once. Togetic bested Bellossom, winning me my 4th Kanto Gym Badge.

    Janine.png

Now was the time to take on Janine...if I could only find her. All of her trainers are dressed like her. On top of that, the invisible walls are back in place. These two elements of the puzzle make for a very challenging Gym. I actually stumbled into the real Janine while looking to beat her lookalike trainers. Luckily, I had Sudowoodo prepared to fight her. Sudowoodo took out her Crobat, but fell to her Weezing due to the Explosion. Gyrados was able to take out her two Ariados and Venomoth. At some point during each match, Gyrados was able to freeze each one of her Pokemon. Freezing is a rare status condition, and unfortunately, they were able to thaw out before I was able to take them down. Make sure in this fight, you have the healing items, because she has clearly mastered the Poison ninja arts from her father. She would make Koga proud.

Now with 5 Kanto Gym Badges, I decided to see if I could win the Bug Catching Contest. Another Scyther, another failure. I got a Fire Stone for my efforts. Still trying to get the Shiny Stone. I hope to get it soon. I am also rebattling the Elite 4 and Champion to get levels. I am battling them 1 time for every Kanto Gym I beat. I think I have figured out that my levels (Lv. 56) is more than enough to take them out and train. I hope to get in the low 60's before I move on to the next log. In the next log, we will go through Diglett's Cave & Viridian Forest. See you then!

Log #46-Diglett's Cave & Viridian Forest
  • After battling the Elite Four 5 times, I now had my team between the levels of 56 and 60, perfect for continuing forward.

    Diglett's Cave.jpg

Not much to say for Diglett's Cave. There isn't much here until you get Rock Climb. Professor Oak called me as I left, telling me there was something he wanted to give me when I reached Pallet Town. I won't be there for a bit yet, so he can wait. Good thing Typhlosion can still cut, because there are many trees to have to get through. I got Sacred Ash from Prof. Oak's Aide in Route 2, then I traveled south and opened up Viridian City, then I headed north from Viridian City and entered Viridian Forest.

    Viridian Forest.jpg

Viridian Forest is often the first forest that players experience when they do a Kanto playthrough. I used Togetic to sweep through all of the trainers, both here and up to Pewter City, placing my full team around Level 60. As I entered Pewter City, I ran into an old man who gave me the Silver Wing. That is going to be used to summon Lugia at the Whirl Islands, but not right now. In the next Log, we will do some exploring of Pewter City, then face down Brock. See you soon!

    Log #47-Brock
  • Now being in Pewter City, I decided to explore the city. My first stop was the Pewter Museum of Science. The last time I was here (in Pokemon Yellow), I had paid $50. However, apparently the Museum was free to enter now. I explored the museum, even running into a guy that revives Fossils in case I want to go do that. Once I was done with that, I decided to go east, taking on Route 3, continuing to train up my team. Once I got to the cave opening of Mt. Moon, I came back to Pewter with a full team of Level 60 Pokemon. I felt ready to take on Brock.

    DP-Brock.png

His Gym was back to a simple room. He had 2 Gym trainers, who were surprising to battle. It was not too bad. Now going up the stairs, I took on Brock with a triumverate of Gyrados, Sudowoodo, and Ampharos. Gyrados OHKOed Graveler. I switched to Ampharos to take out Omastar, with another OHKO. Then came Rhyhorn, which I battled with Sudowoodo. I used Hammer Arm, which was the first time I didn't get an OHKO in this fight. Strangely, the Rhyhorn only used Scary Face. Rhyhorn was Full Restored, only to die to another Hammer Arm. I then switched back to Gyrados to take on Onix. Another OHKO happened. Down to his last Pokemon, Brock brought out Kabutops. I thought I could battle Kabutops with Gyrados. This Kabutops has a very diverse moveset, with Endure, Giga Drain, Aqua Jet, & Rock Slide. I forgot what type combination Kabutops was (Rock/Water, the same as Omastar). Besides that, I thought I could overpower Kabutops. After all, I am 8 Levels higher than the Fossil! I tried to use Surf and Ice Fang to bring it down, but it was very durable, eventually taking down Gyrados with multiple Rock Slides and an Aqua Jet. I thought about bringing out Sudowoodo, but I was concerned about the speed of Kabutops. Instead, I brought out Ampharos, who brought it down with a single Discharge. I won the 6th Badge of this Kanto run.

In the next log, we will face down Mt. Moon. After that log is completed, I will take some time to raise some more levels. I will battle them 6 times, which should get me to about Levels 65-66. I know there is the Trainer House in Viridian, so if I need some more levels for the other Pokemon I can't get Leveled up, I can continue to train there. See you soon!

    Log #48-Mt. Moon
  • Upon beating Brock, I traveled to Mt. Moon, where Silver was waiting for me. I beat him easily, being 10-14 Levels higher than his team. He invited me to go to Dragon's Den in Blackthorn City. Once I beat him, I looked at Mt. Moon, which had nothing of interest for me, so I completed passage, then beat the trainers on the other side. I then flew to Viridian, pushing south. After all, I can't go to the Gym yet. I beat the trainers down to Pallet Town. Red left 3 Years ago, and didn't inform his mother of anything.

Now that I have finished this section, I will be doing the Elite Four Challenge 6x, then go after Lugia. The beast is Level 70, and I am Level 61, leaving me at quite a deficit. However, it should not be too problematic. Right now, I am back in Johto, trying to prepare. I will swap out Gyrados for Lapras, who can move across Whirlpools. Until I am ready to post again, I will see you soon.

    Log #49-Shiny Stone & Togekiss
  • While doing my Elite Four training, I took a moment to participate in the Bug Catching Contest (my 5th Time). If you have been watching this playthrough, you know that I have been challenged by finding the Shiny Stone for my Togetic. I have caught 3 Scythers and 1 (now 2) Pinsirs. As I caught the Pinsir and ended the contest, I was not sure what would happen. After all, I had been burned on this quest 4 previous times. I won and FINALLY GOT THE SHINY STONE! WOOHOO! I never have to do this contest again! I immediately evolved my Togetic into Togekiss.

    800px-468Togekiss_DP_anime.png

After I got my Togekiss, I shifted around my moveset for it, getting it Aura Sphere (replacing Extrasensory) and Air Slash (replacing Ancient Power). I then took on the Elite Four for my 6th time of the training, doing very well.

    My Team Right Now:
    Sudowoodo (Lv. 65)
    Ampharos (Lv. 64)
    Typhlosion (Lv. 63)
    Espeon (Lv. 65)
    Gyrados (Lv. 63)
    Togekiss (Lv. 62)

I exchanged Waterfall for Whirlpool on Gyrados so I don't have to bring Lapras along. My moveset is perfect to take on Lugia so I can catch it. In the next log, we will catch Lugia, See you soon!

    Log #50-Back To Johto: Lugia
  • Whirl Islands.jpg

Here we go! Told you we would be back! We last passed by the Whirl Islands in Log #20. This whole zone is tough to know where to go. If you look at the picture above, that island in the northeast, that one with the massive amount of rocks around it...that is the one you have to go to. That is the one that Lugia resides in. Took me a bit to go through it, and had to find a guide, but I got there.

    249Lugia_OS_anime.png

In front of a waterfall waited Lugia. Before I went into this fight, I brought with me some Dusk Balls (25) and Net Balls (25), just in case. I set Ampharos as my opener, then began the fight. Lugia set up Safeguard, so I decided to stall until Safeguard dropped, then I Thunderwaved Lugia. I then Thunderpunched and Signal Beamed, dropping Lugia down to the beginning of the red. Lugia beat down Ampharos, so I switched to Gyrados while I chucked Dusk Balls at the legend. It took me 6, but I actually caught it, capturing the last Johto Legendary.

Woohoo! I then Escape Roped out, then saved the game. Taking the Magnet Train from Goldenrod, I flew from Saffron City to Pallet Town. In the next log, we will discuss the Islands of Kanto! See you then!

Log #51-Exploring the Islands of Kanto & Battling Blaine
  • 200px-Kanto_Route_21_HGSS.png

Departing from Pallet Town, I moved south through Route 21, battling trainers along the way. There are very few islands here, and no civilization, forcing me to be strategic with my Pokemon selection. The next settlement of note is Cinnabar Island, the largest island in the area. Excited to take a rest, I pushed toward it, expecting to see a thriving society.

    Cinnabar Island.jpg

Instead I see a dead Island. Apparently a year ago, the Cinnabar Volcano erupted, taking out all civilization on the island. Cinnabar was reduced to a rest stop, with a Pokemon Center. Through exploring the island, I run into a trainer named Blue, who claimed he was a former Indigo League Champion, and that a man named Red beat him.

    2389351-heartgold_soulsilver_blue.png

He then asked me how many Gym Badges I had (at this point, it was 6), to which he said I wasn't ready for him. Leaving him in Cinnabar, I continued west until I made it to the Seafoam Islands.

    Seafoam Islands.png

Upon arriving, I found out that this was the new location for Blaine's Gym. In the cave, I found an ice coated staircase. Just where does that lead? Instead of exploring that now, I took the ladder down, being deposited at Blaine's new Gym. There were no questions, just a somewhat tricky puzzle in that you had to make sure you had enough Power Points (PP) in your attacks to clear out the Gym trainers and be healthy enough to battle Blaine. On top of that, all of the trainers had to be battled for the puzzle answer to reveal itself. Maybe Blaine wants you to wear yourself out. Using a combination of Sudowoodo and Gyrados, I cleared out the Gym trainers easily, then went on to battle Blaine, though I thought about going back to Cinnabar to heal and come back.

    Blaine.jpg

Feeling confident, I started the battle with Blaine, easily taking out his Magcargo and Magmar with Surf. He sent out his Rapidash, who hit me with Flare Blitz, losing some HP. Using Surf, I almost OHKO, only for Blaine to Full Restore. Luckily before this Gym, I had gone back to Blackthorn to replace Whirlpool with Waterfall. Understanding that Surf was not strong enough to take out Rapidash, I used Waterfall, which OHKOed Rapidash. I now had my 15th Badge and 7th from Kanto. Before I would leave this area, I decided I would go back and explore that ice staircase and see what is down there.

In the next log, we will take on that exploration, seeing what is there. It's a mystery! See you soon!

    Log #52-Titan of Ice
  • Previously on this challenge, we defeated Blaine then went down the ice coated stairs. I had to find a guide to go through this area. It took me a while, but I managed to get all the way through until I found what made the area so cold. The Titan of Ice, Articuno, is here.

    Articuno.png

I eventually found Articuno, resting on a slab of ice. I had a lot of Dusk Balls & Ultra Balls for this task. It took me quite a few tries. On one occasion, I ran out of Dusk Balls. Luckily for me, I was able to catch it, leading to the first of the Legendary Birds being in the PC. I also went back to Cinnabar, getting Blue to go back to his Gym. The battle with Blue awaits! Right now, I am training with the Elite Four. Just 2 more (I started with 7) and I will go take on Blue.

In the next log, we will take on Blue. See you soon!

  • Here we go...the last Gym Badge! I now have my team at Level 68 & 69 due to my Elite Four training. Coming into the Gym, I am confronted by a Warp Panel puzzle. I HATE Warp Panels! Always have, always will. I beat all of the Gym Trainers while spinning around the room, eventually arriving in front of Blue. The last Gym Battle.

    2389351-heartgold_soulsilver_blue.png

Blue has a Full Team of 6, setting this Gym Battle as the hardest Gym of both Kanto & Johto. Here is the Team break down:

Exeggutor-Exeggutor went down easy to Typhlosion. An easy OHKO.
    Rhydon-
Rhydon went down easy to Gyrados. An easy OHKO.
Machamp-This is where the battle got to be tough. I used Togekiss. Machamp used Stone Edge, which almost took out Togekiss, but it hung on and beat Machamp with a few Air Slashes.
Gyrados-I used Sudowoodo against Gyrados. I know, I used a Rock Type against a Water and Flying Type. I almost paid for it as Gyrados kept using Waterfall. Sudowoodo held on and beat down with a few Rock Slides, taking Gyrados out.
    Arcanine-
I stayed in with Sudowoodo against Arcanine. It took a few attempts, but Sudowoodo beat it.
Pidgeot-I used Togekiss to fight Pidgeot, due to the fact that the rest of my team was at Level 69 and Togekiss was almost there. Pidgeot's Return was tough to take. A few Aura Spheres eventually took it down, winning me the battle.

I now have all 16 Badges. Let's discuss the next logs:
Log #54-Kanto Gym Leaders-In Review. I know a lot of you like this breakdown, and you will like this one too.
Log #55-The Titan of Lightning. Couldn't go after Zapdos until the Gyms were done.

Log #54-Kanto Gym Leaders: A Review
  • So, just like we did in Johto, it is time to discuss Kanto Gym Leaders. Unlike in Johto, where the Gym Leaders were in order, the Kanto list is random and dependent on when you get to them. This list is still out of 12. This list is Puzzle, Trainers, Gym Leader, & Sportsmanship. Let’s do this again folks!
    1357849-heartgold_soulsilver_lt_surge.png

    Lt. Surge (Gym #9):
Puzzle: The trash cans return, like they did in Gen 1 and 3. It can be a tricky thing, especially since if you get the first can, but don’t immediately find the second one, the whole system resets. Also, if you solve the puzzle, but then leave to heal, you have to solve the cans again. This makes the puzzle more annoying than tough. 2 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: The trainers are not too tough, and they help set you up for Surge. The possibility of a Double Battle can be surprising. They can be tough if you don’t have the proper levels, though they are about even to the Player at this point. They get 2 out of 3 because of the Double battle possibility.

Gym Leader: Surge has 5 Pokemon in this fight, making a potential struggle for the Player. Two Electrodes are weak, dragging down his team. Raichu is tricky as a starter for Surge in this battle. The use of the Paralysis status can bring a tough battle here. 2 out of 3.

Sportsmanship: Even though he has a lot of confidence (well earned), he understands when he is defeated, and is gracious. 3 out of 3.
    Score:9 out of 12
    Sabrina.jpg

    Sabrina (Gym #10):
Puzzle: Her warp panels return, though with an updated look. I still don’t like Warp Panels! They are tricky to handle. 3 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: She only has 4 trainers, each in the corners. The trainers are easy to defeat, which doesn’t set you up very easily for the Gym Battle with Sabrina. If your movesets are not set, you could have an issue, plus, it is hard to get back to the entrance due to the warp panel puzzle, so if you beat them down, but want to have enough power points to get to Sabrina, it can be tough to do. 2 out of 3.

Gym Leader: Sabrina has 3 Pokemon in this battle. Her Alakazam is still the beast of her team. The speed can be a tough thing to handle. Sabrina lives up to her reputation. 3 out of 3.

Sportsmanship: She had a vision of your arrival, and trained to prepare for you. She is left with a shaken world view upon seeing her vision come true, but she is still respectful about losing. 3 out of 3.
    Score:11 out of 12
    MistyEP.png

    Misty (Gym #11):
Puzzle:The puzzle was interesting, and it was the best version of the swimming pool crossing. It was not too bad. I was surprised you could run around the pool. 1 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: They did a nice set up for Misty, and were not very hard to beat. 2 out of 3.

Gym Leader: She was tricky. The only leader so far that switched out her Pokemon. Quagsire is a tough one to beat, being bulky. Having four bulky Pokemon presented quite a challenge. 3 out of 3.

Sportsmanship: She was very professional and honorable. 3 out of 3.
    Score: 9 out of 12
    275-2754243_pokemon-gym-leader-erika-hd-png-download.png

    Erika (Gym #12):
Puzzle: Her puzzle was confusing and very challenging. You can easily get turned around in her Gym. You have to cut trees to get through. On top of that, the trainers can block you through the puzzle. 3 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: The trainers were not too hard, but I will give them 2 out of 3 because they were part of the challenging puzzle. 2 out of 3.

Gym Leader: Having four Pokemon, like Misty, presents a challenge. If you don’t come in with the right Pokemon, Erika can be tough to beat, especially if she sets up the sun. Her Bellossom, in particular, can be bulky and fast, able to sweep if the player is not careful. 3 out of 3

Sportsmanship: She was kind of aloof, but very pleasant. 3 out of 3.
    Score: 11 out of 12
    Janine.png

    Janine (Gym #13):
Puzzle: OMG! The invisible walls of Koga are back! On top of that, all of her trainers dress as Janine, meaning that you have a hard time finding the right one. I happened to just stumble into that fight. On top of that, even getting out to heal or after winning is hard. Clearly one of the toughest puzzles. 3 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: With them dressing up like Janine, it is really difficult to figure out who is and is not her. The teams are not that hard other than that. 2 out of 3.

Gym Leader: She has 5 Pokemon. Part of her challenge is the fact that you don’t know which “Janine” is the real one. Her team is like Koga, with Weezing instead of Muk as the only major difference. She also has a tough moveset. She seems to have mastered the Poison and the ninja techniques. She would make her father Koga proud. 3 out of 3.

Sportsmanship: She respects her loss, giving you the badge and understanding she has much training to do yet. 3 out of 3.
    Score: 11 out of 12
    DP-Brock.png

    Brock (Gym #14):
Puzzle: Once again, it was just an empty room with no challenge to get across. At least Misty had a tough way across. 1 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: They were surprising, but not too tough. At least there was more than one. 2 out of 3.

Gym Leader: Brock was almost a clean sweep, until Kabutops. Kabutops was a tough one to take down. 2 out of 3.

Sportsmanship: Brock was excited to see “a trainer from Johto” in his Gym. He gladly gave up his Badge. 3 out of 3.

Puzzle: The puzzle is deceptively difficult, more than you would think, since you have to beat all of the trainers to make it reveal itself. 2 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: The trainers are not difficult in themselves, but the fact that if you want to heal up your Power Points of your moves, you have to leave, then fly away and then surf back to the Seafoam Islands to continue to fight on adds a level of difficulty. 2 out of 3.

Gym Leader: Blaine only has 3 Pokemon, and if your team is low in Power Points for the moves you want to use, he can be difficult. Otherwise, he is very easy. I swept him with Gyrados. 1 out of 3.

Gym Trainers: While it is disappointing that there are so few, the addition of a double battle and the levels make these trainers difficult to beat. 2 out of 3.

Gym Leader: Blue has 6 Pokemon, creating a Full Battle. If you haven’t taken time to level up your team (and you really should have), it can be a tough battle to take down. Log #55-Titan of Lightning
  • After beating Blue, I went to the Power Plant to go catch Zapdos.
    Zapdos.jpg

Zapdos was a tricky and frustrating capture, and I was looking to buy Timer Balls (which I found out I could not buy) in the situation where Zapdos could stall out for a while. When that didn't happen, it took me a few tries to catch it. Luckily, I had a few Ultra Balls (22), which I used to catch it. I opened with Ampharos to whittle it down, first using Thunderwave (which paralyzes Electric types in this Generation), then using Signal Beam to keep lowering it. Once it was low red, I kept throwing Ultra Balls, eventually capturing it in the 6th Ball, 3rd Try. The beast just would not be snared!

In the next Log, we talk about going back to Dragon's Den, which Silver invited me to go back to. See you shortly.

Log #56-Back To Johto: Dragon's Den
  • Dragon's Den.jpg

I hesitated going to Dragon's Den, uncertain my Levels would be strong enough to take on the battle, as the Clair & Lance Duo have Pokemon between Levels 52 & 75. Luckily, Silver was there, wanting to partner with me. He comes into this fight with a Gengar (Level 56), Crobat (Level 58) and Feraligatr (Level 60). My Levels were pushing Level 70. Still, I was concerned about Lance. His levels are still higher than mine. Anyway, we got ready to battle! IT WAS ON!

Clair opened with Dragonair & Lance opened with Gyrados. Silver had Feraligatr and I began this fight with Sudowoodo. Feraligatr was extremely useful, battling Dragonair and freezing it. Sudowoodo used Rock Slide, which did damage to Dragonair and Gyrados. Dragonair fell, but Gyrados took out Sudowoodo with Waterfall. I then brought out Ampharos, while Clair brought out her Dragonite. Ampharos used Discharge, which took out Feraligatr & Gyrados, while doing damage to Dragonite. Lance brought out his Dragonite, and Ampharos kept attacking, continuing the damage to Crobat and the two Dragonites. Lance sent out Charizard and Clair continued with Dragonite. Ampharos beat Gengar, leaving me to fight alone. I ended her Dragonite and his Charizard. Lance was out, Silver was out, and it was a one on one battle between me and Clair, who brought out Kingdra to my Gyrados. Gyrados eventually edged out Kingdra, winning Silver and I the battle.

Surprisingly, I had won! Silver, Lance, and Clair left. After I left, I decided to begin the process of getting Gym Leader phone numbers. In the next Logs (which will take a bit to set up), I will go battle all 16 Gym Leaders at the Saffron Dojo. See you when we are ready!

    Log #57-Cerulean Cave:Mewtwo
  • I am still working on getting the Gym Leaders to show up. At long last, I got Blue's number, so it won't be too long until those much awaited battles at the Dojo occur. While I am still working on it, I decided to go after Mewtwo, since my team is Level 70, same as Mewtwo. Off we go!

    View attachment 146770

I followed a video guide to get me there, as Cerulean Cave is tough to get through. Once I got through to Mewtwo, the battle took 2 tries. In the first, I used Ampharos, which used Thunderwave then Signal Beam. Eventually I got it low, but I couldn't get it to go in the Dusk Balls or Ultra Balls. At that failure, I tried again. On the second try, I used Thunderwave from Ampharos, then switched to Togekiss. One Shadow Ball almost KOed Mewtwo. I spent quite a few Dusk Balls, which would eventually catch the creature. I was sure I would be forced to not go after Mewtwo, since I thought the Master Ball would be required, which I had spent on Latias.

We are still working to get all of the Gym Leaders to show up at the Dojo. In Log 58, we will take on the Johto Rematches, while in Log 59, we will take on the Kanto Rematches. I thank you all for being SO VERY PATIENT with this challenge, especially considering how slow it is to get the Gym Leaders to show up.

Trust me. It will be worth it. We will be ready in a few days.
See you VERY, VERY, VERY SOON!

With all of the Johto Gym Leaders here (I am still waiting on Brock and Blue for the Kanto group), I decided to take on the Johto group. Here are those battles. The Gym Leaders for this part (and the next log) will be rated from 0 to 6 for the number of Pokemon they beat in my team. I may be Level 70, but their teams are very tough.

    Pokemon In This Fight: Ampharos
Review: I started with Ampharos. I was able to OHKO his entire team, though I was nervous about his Staraptor, who is typically fast, and also his Swellow, who has a Flame Orb to set up the Guts ability. 0 out of 6.

    Levels: 50-58
Pokemon In This Fight: Ampharos, Sudowoodo
Review: She is where things started to get tough. I opened with Sudowoodo against her Girafirig. I was able to OHKO it with Faint Attack, though it tried to set up with Calm Mind. I switched to Ampharos to OHKO Bibarel, then switched back to Sudowoodo for the rest of her team. Her Miltank was the first one that was not OHKO by Hammer Arm, though it nearly fell. It was able to use Body Slam, but didn’t paralyze me. I was able to beat Miltank and finish off the other members of her team with more OHKO. 0 out of 6.
    Morty.jpg

    Morty
    Levels: 52-57
Pokemon In This Fight: Sudowoodo, Espeon, Gyarados, Togekiss
Review: Morty was a tough customer. He opened with Drifblim against my Sudowoodo, though I thought about using Ampharos. He was able to set up a Substitute, which I eventually beat with Rock Slide. Drifblim would not go down without a fight, however, but eventually Sudowoodo beat it. He brought out Sableye in response, which in Gen 4, had no weaknesses. I switched to Gyrados to repeatedly hit it with Surf. It did not go down lightly, but eventually dropped. Dusknoir went down to Gyrados as well. Both Gengars were OHKO by Espeon. Togekiss battled Mismagius, who locked in with Mean Look. Togekiss beat it down, winning me the battle. There were a few close calls, but 0 out of 6.
    Chuck.jpg

    Chuck
    Levels: 54-60
Pokemon In This Fight: Espeon, Togekiss
Review: I opened with Togekiss to his Medicham. Togekiss OHKO. I switched to Espeon, who got hit with a Mach Punch. Espeon shrugged it off and OHKO. I switched back to Togekiss to take out Primeape, Breloom, and Poliwrath, though Poliwrath kept trying to Focus Punch me. They all fell to Air Slash. Finally, I switched back to Espeon to take on Hitmonlee, which other than a Fake Out, died easily. 0 out of 6.

    Levels: 50-56
Pokemon In This Fight: Typhlosion, Togekiss
Review: I opened with Typhlosion against Metagross. OHKO. Between Typhlosion and Togekiss, I managed to OHKO most of her team. The only one that wasn’t an OHKO was Magnezone. She had no defense against my team. 0 out of 6.
    Pryce.jpg

    Pryce
    Levels: 52-60
Pokemon In This Fight: Typhlosion, Ampharos
Review: I opened with Typhlosion against Abomasnow. Abomasnow started out with Snow Warning. Typhlosion OHKO Abomasnow. I switched to Ampharos to defeat Dewgong. Mamoswine fell to Typhlosion, who also took out Froslass and Glalie. Ampharos also took down Walrein. The only damage I really took was from Hail. 0 out of 6.

    Clair
    Levels: 52-60
Pokemon In This Fight: Ampharos, Sudowoodo, Gyarados
Review: I lead with Ampharos against Gyarados. Even though I am able to mostly take down Gyarados, it is protected by the Wacan berry, weakening the move. Ampharos edged out Gyarados, though it tried to set up with Dragon Dance. Aerodactyl came out next, which I used Sudowoodo for. Aerodactyl used Earthquake, which almost took Sudowoodo out. Sudowoodo OHKO Aerodactyl. Wanting to end the fight quickly, she sent out Kingdra, which faced down Gyarados. 3 Ice Fangs took out Kingdra, but Kingdra set up a Yawn, putting Gyarados to sleep. Keeping Gyarados in against Dragonair, I used a Full Restore to remove the sleep, but I got hit by Thunderbolt, which severely dropped down Gyarados. He hung in there, using Ice Fang. Clair sent out Dragonite, who was able to finally end Gyarados with Thunder, even though I was sure I could survive. Dragonite had been hit with Ice Fang before Gyarados fell. I sent out Sudowoodo, who got hit with Thunder and almost dropped too, but a Rock Slide finished Dragonite. A final Rock Slide ended Charizard, giving me the win. 1 out of 6.

In the next log, we will face down the Kanto group. Hope you guys liked this post. See you soon!

Pokemon In This Fight: Gyarados, Espeon
Review: I started this fight with Gyarados, while Brock opened with Golem. That was an easy OHKO. Gyarados also beat Rampardos and Onix with OHKO. The first problem was Relicanth, who used Head Smash, almost taking Gyarados down. I switched out to Espeon. Espeon easily beat Relicanth and Omastar. Omastar was an easy OHKO and Relicanth was a clean up. I switched back to Gyrados for Kabutops, who beat me with Rock Slide. I let Espeon finish Kabutops, who died to 2 Psychic attacks. 1 out of 6.

    Levels: 54-60
Pokemon In This Fight: Ampharos, Sudowoodo, Gyarados, Togekiss
Review: Misty was a challenge. I thought Ampharos was going to be able to sweep. Not so at all! Starmie was tough for Ampharos to take down, but eventually I beat it. Next came Quagsire, who I used Gyarados for. A few Ice Fangs stopped it, even when it tried to confuse me using Water Pulse. Lapras came out and tried to set up a Rain Dance and Perish Song, to which I sent out Sudowoodo trying to Rock Slide. When I failed, Sudowoodo fainted. It then switched to Lanturn, who Togekiss beat eventually, though it almost fainted to a few Thunderbolts. Floatzel beat Togekiss, and Ampharos bested Floatzel and Milotic with 2 OHKOs. Lapras came back out, and Ampharos finished it, giving me the win. 2 out of 6.

    Levels: 52-60
Pokemon In This Fight: Typhlosion, Espeon, Togekiss
Review: I opened with Typhlosion against Raichu. It took me a few times, but eventually Flamethrower shut it down. I had been paralyzed a number of times. Electivire came out, and I switched to Espeon, who used Psychic after being hit by Earthquake, leading to an OHKO. Manectric, Magnezone, and Electrode fell to Typhlosion in 3 OHKO. I switched to Togekiss for Pachirisu. It was a back and forth with statuses dropped by Pachirisu. It took me a bit, but eventually Togekiss beat it. 0 out of 6.

    Levels: 53-60
Pokemon In This Fight: Espeon, Gyarados, Togekiss
Review: I opened with Gyarados against Shiftry. One Ice Fang was an OHKO. I stayed in with Gyarados and kept using Ice Fang against Tangrowth. Tangrowth set up Swords Dance, but couldn’t really counter Gyarados, who just kept attacking. It then used Power Whip, which with the Swords Dance, was very powerful. Gyarados came out on top, however. Victreebell was beaten by Espeon in a simple OHKO. Jumpluff and Bellossom went down to Togekiss, though Bellossom tried to set up a Solar Beam attack. It ended up with 2 OHKO. I did a final OHKO to Roserade. This won me the battle. 0 out of 6.

Pokemon In This Fight: Sudowoodo, Espeon, Togekiss
Review: I opened with Sudowoodo against Crobat. One Rock Slide, One OHKO. I thought Crobat was going to be faster than me, but that was not the case. I switched to Espeon to take on Toxicroak. Another OHKO. Sudowoodo beat both Ariados and Venomoth with back to back Rock Slides. I then switched back to Espeon for Weezing, resulting in an OHKO. When Drapion came out, I was worried, since that monster is Poison and Dark, especially since it used Swords Dance. One OHKO with Aura Sphere ended the Drapion. 0 out of 6.

Review: I opened with Gyarados against Alakazam. Alakazam used Gravity, which dropped Gyarados to the ground. A few Dark Pulses beat it down. Mr. Mime fell down to Gyarados as well, though it set up a Reflect. Gallade beat Gyarados with an OHKO, though Togekiss beat it down. Togekiss beat Espeon as well with a Shadow Ball. Jynx went down to Sudowoodo and Rock Slide, creating an OHKO. Espeon battled Wobbuffet. An exchange back and forth ended the battle. 1 out of 6.

Review: Gyarados OHKO Torkoal and Magcargo. Magmortar survived a Surf, then used Thunderbolt, almost taking out Gyarados. I healed up, then Surfed, taking out Magmortar, then OHKO Camerupt and Houndoom. Rapidash was able to outspeed Gyarados and use Flare blitz, but I OHKO Rapidash, ending the battle with my win. 0 out of 6.

    Levels: 67-72
Pokemon In This Fight: Typhlosion, Ampharos, Sudowoodo, Espeon, Gyrados, Togekiss
Review: This was, BY FAR, the toughest battle, mainly because we were evenly matched, both Level 72. Typhlosion OHKO Exeggutor. Then I brought out Gyarados against Rhyperior. It was a tough exchange, but Gyarados edged it out. Next came Tyranitar, who set up Sand Stream. Sand Stream would last through the duration of the fight. Tyranitar made Gyarados faint. Togekiss and Tyranitar took each other out, Aura Sphere versus Rock Slide. Espeon battled Machamp, and while Psychic almost OHKO, Machamp used Fling, which OHKO Espeon. Machamp fainted to Sand Stream. With no idea of what would come next, I brought out Sudowoodo against Arcanine. A back and forth battle ensued, but Sudowoodo beat Arcanine. I switched out to Ampharos to battle Pidgeot. Pidgeot eventually took out Ampharos with Return. I used Sudowoodo to finish the battle with a few Rock Slides. Honestly, I thought I would be left with Typhlosion. That was a SCARY fight. 4 out of 6.

OMG! BLUE WAS INSANE! I CAN SAY I ALMOST LOST! I will be spending some time training my team into the mid to upper 80's using the Updated Elite Four. Their levels jump and they change their teams after you get all 16 Badges. Once I am ready, I will set the next 2 Logs. Log #60 will be Moltres, which is in Mt. Silver. Log #61 will be Red.

It won't take too long, I hope. See you soon! Thank you for the 5K views so far!

    Log #60-Titan of Fire
  • Moltres.png

I found Moltres a lot faster than I thought I would. This was because I used a guide that simplified things to help me find the spot. First, I went to Blackthorn City, exchanging Typhlosion's Cut for Rock Climb. I then pulled up a guide to find Moltres.

Once I found it, I used Ampharos to Paralyze Moltres. I then used Signal Beam to lower down the HP. It took the remaining Dusk Balls I had (I even tried a Level Ball), but in the end, I caught it in an Ultra Ball after a few attempts.

I only have one more Legendary to catch in the game, Kyogre. Unfortunately, I can't catch Kyogre until I beat Red, which I have to get up in Levels for.

In the next Log, it will be time to battle Red. The battle will have a detailed analysis. See you soon!
