SwSh Villain Team Speculation

While I agree that it won’t be explicitly mentioned, I still think it’s possible that some of the underlying issues that led to the vote could be touched on in the whole “tradition vs innovation” theme that looks to be confirmed from the trailer. GameFreak hasn’t shied away from exploring pretty serious real life issues in recent Gens.

I could see an industrial revolution theme and its possible underlying consequences, but that touches more on the former British Empire imo than Brexit. Still, I suppose they could work in the social aspects you mentioned without it being blatant.

Team Plasma/Ghetsis in NYC itself is pretty ironic in hindsight, but I won't go there lol

Why am I just thinking a bunch of old people in suits?

Like the villains are just going to be the UK government.

Truly the most irredeemable character that would ever grace a Pokemon game. Ghetsis & Greevil would look tame in comparison to this kinda crazy.

I feel that the evil team will be clinging onto the past and tradition. They feel that new technology is the big reason people are forgetting the old ways and have become out of touch with their noble roots.

So, you're talking about the Luddites, a British based group active during the Industrial Revolution who opposed the new technology?

To be honest, I didn't know about the Luddites while posting that. But yes, they do fit what I am speculating for the evil team to be.

From the medieval theme, knights are what makes the most sense. However everyone has Team Plasma fresh in their minds so I doubt they'll do it again. It would be nice to see some knights as NPCs though.
From the industrial revolution theme, maybe a group of factory workers, I don't know what could be a creative goal for them though. It would also be a bit controversial.
From the sports theme, well, a football, basketball or whatever team of players. I don't see it likely as sports seems to be portrayed as something positive, but who knows.

Maybe they'll pull an Alola/Unova and have something completely out of field.

Workers of the world unite? I'm a socialist (American Dem version) myself and I wouldn't have an issue with it. You'd have to portray their plight as one in which they aren't viewed as "evil" but possibly misguided. Using "working/factory" Pokemon like Timburr & Klink would also be a cool touch.

I could also see a group of well-to-do Industrialist as antagonist.

Maybe it's because I know people from Nicaragua and Venezuela, but I would like to be far, far away from socialism...

I don't want to get into the semantics bc that would be a whole load of stuff that isn't for these boards lol

Probably for the best then that GF won't touch that issue aside from a possible Monarchy team that wants to restore the Galar Empire or something along those lines, since its far removed enough from our era to not offend players.

Its going to be a team that opposes industrial advancement and wants things back to the way they were, old fashion.
