Intro
This RP takes place in a world similar to our own, but for one major difference: In the year 2012, a great war broke out, ravaging most of the world. Human civilization would have been wiped out, were it not for three major events.

-Humans adapted. Through rigorous training and mutations caused by the aftermath of weapons of mass destruction, a few humans began to develop powers beyond what would normally be considered possible. Things like superhuman strength, regeneration, even psychic powers like telekinesis. These warriors, named Adepts, helped to protect mankind.

-Magic returned. Deities such as Thor, Nergal, Zeus, Anubis, Lucifer, and many lesser beings made contracts with mortals, giving them supernatural powers. With these abilities, the chosen people known as Mages helped their kinsman survive, founding cities among the ruins.

-Following this, major scientific breakthroughs occured. Salvaging lost technology, people began to find great insights, creating machines other humans simply could not comprehend. Known as Tinkers, these people invented gadgets that would allow for the survival of humans.

200 years later, mankind is thriving. Technology, while set back by the war, is somewhat more advanced than what we have now. Most of civilization is city-states, governed by a group known as The Center. While they try to maintain order, some believe the Center has grown corrupt. Meanwhile, Tinkers, Adepts, and Mages still accept. Many practice their abilities to help with mundane work, or as a hobby. Others serve the Center as law enforcement. And many work as Outlaws. Outlaws are individuals who use Tinker, Adept, or Magical powers to commit crimes. They usually work together in groups called Gangs, and many do mercenary work.

Recently, the Center has been cracking down on Outlaws. After being caught, you've been confined to The Labyrinth, a prison for Outlaws. To make an example, The Center has decided to publically execute you. However, what might seem to be the end of your career is going to be the start of a great adventure.

Overview
The world is ours, 200 years in the future, where humans have superpowers. Those who use their powers are branded as Outlaws. Basically, your character is a villain, though how evil is up to you. Characters start in the prison known as The Labyrinth, a facility deep underground in Alaska. It's maintained by the center, though they are willing to take Outlaws from other countries as well.

There are three main types:
Mages, who make contracts with supernatural beings like demons or gods to attain magical power in the form of spells. Each spell has a given use. A mage that knows a fireball spell wouldn't necessarily also be able to breathe fire, unless they had a spell for that as well. Mages can gain powers by forming contracts with any supernatural entity, from a god like Loki or Poseidon, to the ghost of a hero like Hercules or Sigmund, or even to a large group of lesser entities, such as 108 ghosts, or a magical sword. Most, but not all mages, require some sort of object granted by their patron to use magic, such as a wand or an amulet.

Tinkers are people who, after intense study, suffered an event called a Breakthrough, which effectively rewires their brains to allow them to create inventions that others couldn't. Things like disintegration rays, sentient AI, power armor. They all have a Knack, a theme that their inventions work within. A Tinker with a Knack for robots could build an android bounty hunter, but couldn't build the laser sword his friend with a Knack for weapons could. Most Tinker creations aren't very user friendly, so usually the only person that can use them without hurting themselves is their creator. There are a few Tinkers that can make machines usable by most people, but it takes a very, very long time. Finally, a Breakthrough results in a fundamental change to the mind. Many Tinkers thus have difficulty relating to other people, and often have strange tics.

Adepts are the broadest group. They are humans who, through extreme training, have gained powers beyond what normal humans can do. Many Adepts simply have abilities that are more powerful versions of ones humans have: Super strength, augmented speed...However, there are other Adepts who have developed the ability to use ki. These powers are similar to mage abilities, though they don't stem from a supernatural being. Instead, they come from within. These Adepts can shoot lasers from their hands, cover themselves in protective barriers, and do other things. Finally, people who have permanently had their bodies altered fall under this. Someone who had their arms sliced off, and had a Tinker replace them with robot arms would be an Adept.

The countries as we know them don't exist any more. The world is instead divided into several city-states, with miles of wilderness between them. Ruins of bombed-out cities dot the countryside, and some of the robots built to fight in the war still roam the land, attacking anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path. And a few of the nukes that were dropped still remain, just waiting to be detonated. Bizarre creatures such as dragons and minotaurs, created by Tinkers or Mages or simply mutated by the war wait in lairs.

Most of North and South America is to some extent policed by The Center, a government based in an Arcology somewhere in the Nevada desert. It's dotted with several smaller city states, which to a greater or lesser extent are controlled by them. Eurasia is in anarchy, split into several small nations constantly at war with one another. Egypt is controlled by a Tinker who has an army of beastmen he created serving him, Japan is full of Adepts trying to control the most islands, and China is ruled by a powerful necromancer, among others.

Rules
-No god-modding
-Keep things PG-13 in regards to sex, but otherwise go crazy.
-This RP is gonna be a tad more player driven than others. In most RPs, players are reacting to the villains. Since in this RP characters are more or less the villains, having your characters go off to steal a nuke from an abandoned base or the staff of chaos from The Center is encouraged. That said, there will be a main quest to follow.

Sign-Ups
Name: Most Outlaws have two: A birth name, and an alias.
Archetype: Tinker, Mage, or Adept? If a Tinker, include your knack. There's a decent amount of overlap between the groups: Many Mages or Tinkers supplement their abilities with Adept powers, and there are Adepts who use simple Tinker-made gadgets.
Age: A good portion of Outlaws are in their late teens or early twenties, but there are also middle-aged Outlaws, seventy-year olds in power armor...Any age is acceptable, since powers can compensate.
Gender: In this world, there's very little sexism. With an entire country of half-human monsters, things like sex and race have become a bit of a non-issue.
Appearance: Most people look like humans in our world, but it's not uncommon for Outlaws to permanently alter their bodies in some way. Mages have turned themselves into undead monsters, there are Tinkers that put their brains in robot bodies, and body modification is very common for Adepts.
History: No length requirement, just include how they got their powers, and how they ended up in The Labyrinth.
Abilities: List Adept techniques and Mage spells here. Mages should start with two or three spells.
Equipment: Any Tinker-made items go here, as well as mundane equipment. Though characters will begin in prison, they will be reunited with their things fairly soon.
Skills: List any mundane abilities here.

Example SUs
Name: Rex "Dragon" Miller

Archetype: Adept

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Appearance: Rex is a tall, muscular young man. He's been fighting for much of his life, and it shows, his body riddled with scars, many of them products of his training. The most prominent is a burnscar covering the left half of his face. He's otherwise fairly handsome, with bright green eyes, and flowing brown hair. He typically wears a leather jacket over his bare chest to show off the large scar running across his chest, along with a pair of durable jeans and thick boots. All of his clothes have been treated to be flame retardant, though they still become charred quickly, forcing him to buy knew ones on a fairly regular basis.

History: Dragon was born to a fairly poor family in the city of Neo Vegas. His mom died shortly after he was born, and his father was an alcoholic. He started skipping school to train as an Adept with an Outlaw who called himself Dante. He joined Scratch's gang, a group of pyrokinetic Outlaws. They made him feel like he belonged, and Dante was like the father he never had. They went on a lot of successful exploits. They knocked over banks, took hostages. And they burnt everything to the ground. When he was 18, he went to live at Dante's base. Shortly after, everything went to hell. One of the members betrayed everyone, and told the police where they lived. Rex was the only one who wasn't killed. Instead, he was arrested and taken to The Labyrinth.

Abilities: Dragon combines fire-based ki powers with enhanced strength. By snapping his fingers, Dragon can cover his body in a fiery aura. While alight, Dragon becomes much stronger, able to punch through a door and strangle the man on the other side. He won't hurt his hand doing so either, as it makes him a bit more durable. He won't deflect bullets, but they won't penetrate as deeply. However, his power doesn't work in very humid environments, nor if he's soaked in water.

Equipment: As stated above, his clothing is flame-retardent.

Skills: Dragon is fairly skilled in hand-to-hand combat. He's not a master, but he knows how to effectively throw a punch.

Name: Lauren Feurstein

Archetype: Mage

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Appearance: Lauren is a tad tall for a girl, at 5'11, with fair skin hinting at her German descent. She has a dragon tattoo running along her upper left arm, and has a somewhat muscular build. She emphasis comfort when dressing herself, typically wearing a white hooded sweater and a pair of loose fitting jeans with tennis shoes. Since she can magically armor herself using Corona, she doesn't really wear any armor.

History: Lauren lived in Berlin, Germany. Like most European city-states, it was in constant flux. Her parents were nobles within the government when a revolution broke out. They were killed, and when the rebels were closing in on her, she had a vision of a dragon goddess offering to rescue her. Lauren agreed, and when she came to, she had a sword in her hands. She fought bravely. The rebels had killed almost everyone in the palace, but Lauren managed to cut their numbers in half. Eventually, she was overwhelmed and captured. Having no facility to put Outlaws in, the new government of Berlin turned her over to the Center to put her in The Labyrinth.

Abilities: Lauren uses her magic sword, called Corona, to cast her spells.
Reflect: By blocking an energy based attack with her blade, Lauren can reflect it back at its user.
Corona Slash: By focusing her mind and slicing at the air, Lauren can fire a wave of white light at her enemy. This attack hurts about as much as if the foe had been slashed normally, the benefit being that it can hit foes far away.
Battle Aura: By holding her sword aloft, Lauren can cover her body in an aura of light. This aura protects her from physical attacks as if she were wearing leather armor.

Equipment: Lauren fights using a magical sword called Corona, gifted to her by the dragon goddess Tiamat. In addition to the spells it allows her to cast, it's very sharp, and Lauren can summon it to her hands any time she snaps her fingers. It takes the appearance of an ornate longsword, with a golden hilt covered in large rubies. The blade shines as if made from silver, and in the dark, glows very softly.

Skills: Lauren is a skilled swordsman, able to hold her own in combat with a bladed weapon.

Name: Johnny "Doc" Saint

Archetype: Tinker (Fungus)

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Appearance: Johnny is a very pale man. Just a few shades lighter, and he'd be an albino. He has a messy mop of platinum blond hair atop his head, and his eyes are a very pale shade of blue, nearly grey. His skin is pale as well. He never tans, he just burns. Johnny has a slender figure. He's not unfit. He bikes most places. But he's tall and lean. He has handsome features. He's not very rugged. He's more boyish in his appearance, with big eyes, and usually a serene expression on his face. As far as clothes, he favors comfort above all else. He usually wears a loose hooded sweater over a t-shirt and some jeans.

History: Johnny had a troubled childhood. His mother was very young when he was conceived. Her religious beliefs forced her to keep the child, but she resented him for much of his childhood. Though she never hit him, she was often emotionally abusive. This made him very reserved as a child, and combined with the fact that his family was very poor, this caused him to be bullied a lot as a kid. He had few friends, but his teachers sympathized with him. He occupied himself by studying. He tried to win his mother's approval by being a good student, and he brought home straight As. It didn't help much, but he continued his studies. His teachers said he was a genius, and he may have been. He was allowed to skip two years of high school, and eventually won a full-ride scholarship. He moved out of his house at the age of 16, and began his education as a medical student.

He was in college, and he continued to excel. If he wasn't eating or sleeping, he was studying or going to class. It was taking it's toll on him: He never was a healthy kid, and the lack of sleep and skipping meals began to hurt him. But he ignored it. He got an internship as a doctor's aide at the local hospital, and that was when it all went wrong. It was late at night, and there was only one doctor on call. A man was wheeled in. A homeless man. Some teenagers had beaten him half to death. The doctor never showed. He had a car crash. Johnny and a few nurses were the only ones there. Johnny tried his best to save the man. Maybe if he had gotten more sleep, or had eaten that day, he could have. But he died in Johnny's arms.

What Johnny did was completely against protocol and unethical. He was fired on the spot. Johnny had nothing to say about it. He was completely numb. He went back to his dorm, and went to bed. That night, something happened. His brain rearranged itself. New pathways opened up. When he woke up, he knew exactly what had happened. He solved medical conundrums that had stumped doctors for decades in his head. He began experimenting on himself. He was decades ahead of modern medicine. And he could do more. But he needed test subjects. Lots of test subjects. Of course, he was caught, and due to the nature of his crimes, sent to The Labyrinth.

Equipment: Doc knows how to breed small, purple mushrooms. These mushrooms, when squeezed, release spores. These spores have two different functions: When they come into contact with a dead body, they infect the nervous system, causing the body to reanimate. Using a simple radio transmitter he built using a walkie-talkie, he can control them, giving them basic commands like "kill" or "guard". When the spores come into contact with wounded, living tissue, they will heal it. He also usually keeps a briefcase full of surgical equipment on hand.

Skills: Doc is skilled at sewing, and is a skilled medic.

TL;DR
You're a bad guy with anime powers in prison and you're going to cause all kinds of chaos and mayhem because that's gangsta

Re: Wanted (Supervillain RP)

Name: Abayomi Ndiaye, a.k.a. Omni

Archtype: Adept

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Appearance: Abayomi is a tall person, with tan skin. He is rather thin and not very muscular. His eyes are a deep brown. He has a small scar underneath his left eye from a childhood accident. His hair is short and black, with small curls here and there. Abayomi always wears long pants and long-sleeve shirts, despite the hot climate he lives in. He feels vulnerable in short-sleeve shirts or shorts, but doesn't mind being barefoot. He usually wears clothes that are yellow, red, black, and green, the combined colors of his parents' regions' flags. Abayomi was also born with a milder form of Marfan's syndrome, though advancements in technology have allowed Abayomi to experience only a couple of symptoms as opposed to many. He often towers over those around him, and has longer fingers as a result of his condition.

History: He has parents from two different (former) countries: A father from Germany and a mother from Ghana. He lived in the city-state of Accra. The council that runs Accra are very nervous with the state of affairs concerning surrounding nations, and have been less friendly and more severe as of late. His mother, an Adept with the ability to heal through physical contact, sits upon the council, so Abayomi can narrowly escape certain mistakes now and then, such as when he paid certain Outlaws to smuggle his father out of the former state of Germany. As a boy, Abayomi trained on top of Mount Afadja with an elderly man. There, he grew very close to nature and developed empathic connections, and came in touch with his ki. Abayomi values life very highly, and he sees murderers and others who end all forms of life as enemies to the progress of the species and the Earth itself. After learning the identity of a Central diplomat in Accra who had killed a local woman, Abayomi sent a pointed stone through the back of his head. When tracked and confronted by the Council of Accra, Abayomi confessed, and coldly stated that for the progression of their society, those who ended life had to be removed. The Council called Abayomi a hypocrite, but he insisted that he had done nothing wrong. In an attempt to restore relations to The Center, the Council offered up Abayomi and sent him to be dealt with him by them, thus resulting in his presence in the Labyrinth. Since then, the relationship between his Tinker father and his Adept mother has been upset.

Abilities: Often referred to as 'cosmic empathy' by those around him, Abayomi can manipulate and communicate with certain elements, using his ki to relate to nature. Controlling water, fire, earth, air, and the weather are all in his capability, though purely artificially created substances are near-impossible to control, such as plutonium. Abayomi's powers grow more difficult to use if the element in question is affected by severe radiation/pollution, as his empathy/elemental communication works best in pure, wild areas (for example, if he were present in modern day, he would be incredibly strong in the deep Amazon rainforest, at regular strength in a town/medium-sized city, but weakened somewhere like Beijing due to the smog, and powerless in a nuclear power plant).

Equipment: He has some fingerless gloves that he wears, and four gemstones (ruby, sapphire, emerald, amethyst) that help act as conduits for his ki. He carries a small knife, though he's hopeless with weapons and hand-to-hand combat and relies solely on his powers to defend himself. Without them, he is very vulnerable and can be easily defeated in physical combat.

Skills: Speaks three languages (English, French, German). Due to his syndrome, he has hypermobility (put simply, he's more flexible).

Re: Wanted (Supervillain RP)

@Argan, accepted. I should mention that much of this RP will take place in cities, just FYI. Also, most of the world speaks English, or at least understands it. Knowing multiple languages isn't a problem, and it could be useful, just maybe not as useful as you might think.

Exactly what can he do with his powers? Like can he make tornadoes, or make a volcano erupt in the middle of New New York? Or is it just basic stuff, like throwing embers? You can make your dude stronger as the RP progresses.

Re: Wanted (Supervillain RP)

Thank you for the info, languages are there just to add a bit to the multi-ethnic aspect of his character. Tornadoes would certainly be within his capabilities, causing large waves, shooting fireballs, levitating chunks of rock. Volcanoes and hurricanes could be possible, but also a lot of energy (manipulating 2 elements at once, Fire/Earth and Water/Air respectively, to such a grand scale would be very stressful), but would be less challenging as he grows more experienced. Manipulation of single elements (moving a boulder) is easier than manipulation of multiple elements (lightning: Fire/Air, or either of the previous mentioned examples). Fire won't be very easy for him to use very early-on, because it's more powerful when used with other elements.

Ah, perhaps tone it down a bit? Levelling cities is a bit excessive at the start. There are people who can do that in this world, but they're considered some of the strongest people alive. Most Outlaws have only a few tricks up their sleeve, like being able to shoot small bolts of lightning and run really fast.

I have perfect character for this RP.

Name: Ardromeda ‘Meta’ Tarung or Blackorchid

Archetype: Mage

Age: 18 *true* or 22 *fake*

Gender: Female

Appearance: 5ft 7in, mixed-races, pale skin *maybe because keep drained her blood*, black long thin hair, full lips, slender but have a really nice figure. Almost always wear black.

History:
Meta born as orphan and raised as Outlaw, even though she have no power at the start. She used to collect Junk, invention that left by Tinker who is death or abandoned to be sold with her first Gang, lead by Sapphire who raised them and was mother and sister for her.
When she was 15 years old, she met Isa Aklias, same age at her, who was poisoned by her own power. Isa’s power born from a contract that her politician grandfather made with unknown and really powerful god in form of a book. Book of knowledge can know everything, even predict future with 95% of accuracy, but eat the Mage’s life as compensation.

Unknown to Isa’s power, Meta saved her and helped her run from her family. Sapphire and her Gang accepted her as part of her familly. The Gang, with help of Book of Knowledge, learn how more about world and find Junks.

After learn about Isa’s secret. Meta resisted her to use her power but rejected. Sapphire gave idea to used Junk to create body with help of Book of Knowledge to make Suit to longer Isa’s life. The experiment was success, but instead build a Suit to support Isa’s life, Isa lead them to build a machine to substracted her life and inject it to Meta, who most kind to her and have no ill intention. Sapphire who paid by Isa’s grandparent shown her true color. Isa was death and Meta run away. Sapphire and her gang ended up killed.

Meta hide her identity and bound new contract with Eris, the Goddest of Chaos to have new power, she then faked her own death and gained new identity as Blackorchid an individual Outlaw *not in any Gang*.

3 years after, she was finally caught after reported to be central of various suicide by several Politicians and mastermind of some plan against government. To seal her power, her ring finger is cut and she was sentences to The Labyrinth.

Abilities:
Book of Knowledge: Will answer everything Meta/Isa asked by write it with her own blood. Only Isa’s blood that was stored near Meta’s left chest that can be used.

Eris’ Ring: Planted on her left ring finger, shine when she used her Eris’ power. The ring is planted on her ring finger so Government cut her finger before put her in The Labyrinth but the contract it still on and sometimes the Ring is spark when Orchid hum her spell, make her still avowed Dangerous and kept on The Labyrinth

Magic Spell:
Alkaisadai – will create chaos and temporary madness in mind of people who heard it, frightening but addictive like heroin.
Ikalasadi – can be used when people under Alkaisadai spell is used, imaginary book is shown, where she can use it to write down story of hallucination that her victim’s seen
After her finger was cut, she could only use Alkaisadai to create split second hallucination, but still addictive.

Ring of Eris
Mysterious Syringe in form pen to drain her blood when used Book of Knowledge, hidden in her hideout outside The Labyrinth
Book of Knowledge in form of various number of paper hidden on her body and the Book itself on her hideout

Skills: She is seductive and charismatic, she is a really good negotiator and observer.

@lovandra, looks pretty rad. Evil is good. Accepted. One question, though. Aside from not hearing the spell, are there other ways of resisting the illusions?

@lovandra, looks pretty rad. Evil is good. Accepted. One question, though. Aside from not hearing the spell, are there other ways of resisting the illusions?

For normal person, no, but people can create ability to resist the power. And they need to heard it directly, so recorded voice can't be use but live on air can...

She also have other spell that can be used to create madness to people. Like one can be use when she touched her victim with her left hand while using the ring. The victim not necessarily need to contact with the ring when she touch them, but they need in contact with her palm *left hand* so she can spread the power..
The same spell can also used if people touch the Ring, even though she not wear the Ring, but she need to recite the spell at when the people touch it *hard cause she can't see the Ring, easy cause she still have some page of Book left, I will wait for the plot to use this strategy or not*.

There also some other spells, Orchid have them all written in Book of Knowledge's pages. She only remember 3 max of the spell. And some spell can be used only in particular situation, but the nature of her power isn't change.
There also one spell that really long that can be used to make 'Mark of Spell' on food/perfume and effect people who eat or smell it.,
But I keep all the spells for later..

Yeah, no problem. I wasn't quite sure how the power went exactly in terms of scale, so I can tone it down. And yes, leveling cities would be a bit excessive XD

Oooooh, nice. I just started watching a bit of Trigun, so I guess I'll make and try out a new character. It will take a while to complete, but please do reserve a spot for me. I'll work on my character page now. However, I do have a question, how deep can an Adept be in their powers? Are there different ranks in Tinker skills? What about the mages, where are their limits?

Name: Alice J. Nancy (Pseudonym: Beatrice K. Sparks)
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Archetype: Adept

Appearance: Alice is 5'4, and weighs 136 lbs. She has short blonde hair, pushed aside to not obscure her face. She has tanned skin and turquoise eyes. Her clothing varies, but she prefers sundresses, especially pink ones. She is almost always wearing headphones and shades.

History: Alice grew up in Fiji, where she spent her teen years learning how to hunt so that she could grow up to continue her families business. She was a natural at it, and was the pride and joy of her parents. They often bragged about how good she was to their friends and families. These tales seemed a bit too outlandish, so they contacted authorities, out of suspicion of her possessing powers. When her parents got wind of this, they sent her off on a boat for safety, where she island hopped for years before eventually being caught in the Yasawa islands, and sent to the Labrynth.

Skills: Four out of her five senses are enhanced greatly (smell being the exception). With those enhanced senses, she can see farther and more clearly than the average human, hear sounds normally beyond human hearing range, pick up faint sounds easily, among other things. However, this does make her a bit more susceptible to sensory attacks, such as bright flashes or sudden, loud noises.

Equipment: In addition to the headphones and sunglasses, she also possessed a sniper rifle. Unfortunately, this was taken for her following her arrest.

Other: Pretty good at reading other people.

@SudoWooper, accepted. You can make your powers stronger, though. Also, having powers isn't really illegal in most of the world. The Labyrinth is just a facility specially made to contain people with powers who commit crimes. If you want it to be the case in Fiji, that's cool, just letting you know.

@PyroPokeman, Tinkers don't really have ranks. They have different knacks, which means they can make different things, but how advanced the things they can build are depends more on the Tinker themselves than what their category is. Think of it like this. Dogs can't read, right? You could show a dog a book, and read to it, and try to tell it what sounds each letter made, and even if you could somehow talk to dogs, and even if it was the smartest dog in the world, you couldn't teach it to read, because it simply doesn't have the right parts in its brain. Likewise, humans normally can't build lightsabers or sentient robots, simply because we don't have the right connections in our brain. Tinkers have developed these connections after working very hard in a given field. However, this also means that it's difficult for normal people to use Tinker-made tech. It's usually simply too complicated to use. Even when it's not, a non-Tinker won't usually be able to maintain Tinker-made gear. It's possible for very powerful Tinkers to make gear that normal people can use, but it takes a lot of hard work.

Tinkers typically get stronger by performing experiments to expand upon the knowledge gained in their breakthrough, creating new tech to use, and developing old tech. They can also learn mundane skills to supplement their equipment. A Tinker with a lightsaber who knows how to use it would be a formidable foe. What they can do is usually determined by their Knack. Stronger Tinkers can make more things within their knack. For example, a Tinker with a knack in Pyrotechnics might be able to only make grenades, but might later learn to make things like flamethrowers or fire swords.

The main restriction for Mages is their spells do specific things. A Mage might have a spell that can create shards of ice from water in the air. But the mage couldn't use that spell to make, for instance, an ice wall. That would be a separate spell. The shards of ice might get pointier as the mage gets stronger, but they won't be able to alter the base function of the spell. Also, mages get their powers from supernatural entities. This can be in the form of ancestry, which has few drawbacks. Basically, that means that your grandma/dad/mom/grandpa did the no-no cha-cha with a demon/angel/zombie/fairy/dragon/whatever, and you have magical powers from it. This is somewhat rare and usually unpredictable.

Most mages get their powers from a contract. Basically, a god or demon or other magical being offers you power, and you say yes, and now you can shoot lasers from your nose. This is where a lot of mages get bit in the ass. There are benevolent gods and angels that sometimes give power to mortals that really need it. That's rare. There are trickster gods who give magic to people who they know are gonna use it to cause trouble, then sit back and watch chaos ensue. That's a bit more common, but still not normal. Then there are bad guys like Satan and Nyarlthotep and Ares. They see you getting beat up at school, give you magical power in exchange for one favor, and after you turn some bullies into frogs, nobody messes with you. It might seem like a good deal...Except then it turns out that favor is skinning your parents alive. That's a bit of an extreme case, but typically the gods that are most willing to give out magical powers are the ones that want people to do things that aren't in their best interest. Usually it's something along the lines of the god wanting you to go on a dangerous quest to get a holy relic.

That said, patrons don't really have as much influence on Mages as you might think. Once a patron makes you a mage, they can't revoke that power in most cases. Mages do often learn new spells from their Patron in the form of either dreams or seeing them directly. That's why a lot of mages have spells related to their patrons: A mage that sold their soul to Zeus will likely be taught stuff like how to shoot lightning. But its also possible to learn spells from other mages. If the mage that learned how to shoot lightning wants to learn how to summon fire elementals, he just needs to go see his neighbor who's 1/16th fire demon. A lot of Patrons do have magic that forces one to do a specific action, but as a general rule, most such spells require signing a contract of some sort, so you have at least some idea what you're getting into. Most patrons do have some means of tracking their mages down, though, so if you do disobey your patron, if they're especially powerful, you might have an archdemon showing up at your doorstep to rough you up.

Satan has a lot of Mages under his thumb, and usually doesn't have their best intentions at heart. Trickster gods like Loki or Coyote often give out powers for entertainment, and though they usually don't take a direct hand, they usually know that somebody will end up being hurt because of it. The Greek and Norse gods are pretty popular patrons, and usually they just ask you to kill some monster. The Grim Reaper is actually very benevolent: He often gives power to Mages so long as they help put spirits to rest. A lot of death gods are like that. Different beings all give out about the same magical power, so a mage with Odin as a patron could get her ass handed to her by a Mage with some random fairy as a patron. Any supernatural being can give power away, it's just that gods usually have more time to teach their mages, what with the whole omnipresence deal, and giving magical power up is less detrimental to them, since they have more of it in the first place. So you could get magic from a kitsune or a mummy, but you'd be more or less on your own in regards to finding spells. Which actually isn't as hard as you'd think. A lot of them are available on the internet. There's even a WikiMagic. There are also several organizations of Mages throughout the world. Membership often requires paying dues, but a lot of them are quite capable of serving Outlaws in addition to law-abiding citizens, though they might ask a favor or two from members who are beyond the reach of the law.

Finally, some mages cast their spells using objects. Like Lauren in the example SUs, who needs Corona, or Lovandra's character. So if those mages lose those things, they're weakened by quite a bit. On the other hand, most of those objects have little effects that make said mages a bit stronger: Corona is a very nice sword even without the magical spells, for example. So it might be worth it.

Finally, Adepts are pretty much "everyone else". It's a combination of people who have had their bodies altered, people who can use ki, and people who have just trained a lot. They have the most variation. An Adept could be someone who spent years swordfighting until they could cut through steel, or an android created and abandoned by a Tinker, or a skeleton raised by a necromancer who broke free of their bonds. Ki is a combination of psychic powers and control over one's own body. It lets you increase your strength, use telekinesis, control earth, pretty much anything, but it requires a lot of training. This is achieved through different methods for each technique. The more mental ones, like pyrokinesis, telepathy, and telekinesis are gained through meditation and mental discipline. Physical ones like increasing one's strength so you can punch through brick walls, or making oneself faster so they can seem to teleport, is usually done by exerting one's body until its forced to perform beyond what's normally possible.

There's really not much difference between what Archetypes can do. The main difference is how they do it. For example, a Mage could learn a spell to shoot laser beams, an Adept could train by meditation until they could do it through force of will, and a Tinker could build a huge gun to do it.

As far as power level, the example SUs are about the level I expect most players to be at, and they represent about an average Outlaw. You'll get to make your character stronger as you go, so don't stress too much.

@Heroic Sociopath; this RP is for teen or mature?
Cause I have a dark idea for a character that will be extremlly 'dark' and only will just fit mature content. Just made him after finish Meta's background.

What did you have in mind? I'd say the rating is what you guys want it to be. I mean, no actual writing porn in the RP is the only real rule. As for tone...What did you guys have in mind? You are the players, so the game is about your characters. I'm personally not a big fan of darkness for the sake of itself, but it can be neat. Being bad guys is what I had in mind when I made this, but as I've said before, how evil is up to you guys.

Name: Archie "Scimitar" Yukirin

Archetype: Adept

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Appearance: Archie is a rather tall man, standing at 6' 6". He has tanned skin and dusky brown hair that spikes under his bandana. He wears a dark trenchcoat, a striped shirt, black boots, and jeans. Here's the weird part - his forearms can transform into deadly 3 foot-long scimitars, sharpened by the bones of his enemies. Not only that, but each tip is doused in a rare poison that shuts off your powers and drains your energy, resulting inexcruciating fatigue. His eyes a dark gray, like discs of tempered steel.

History: Scimitar was born and raised upon a pirate ship, having been lost at sea. The captain took him in, and taught him how to fight as soon as he was up and walking. One of the crew members was an Adept, her name was Geisha. She taught him hand-to-hand combat, sailing ships, sword fighting, and other tactics to help him survive. During a battle with privateers, Geisha was nearly killed, and Archie lost both his arms. The doctor Geisha took him to fit him with arms that were fused with his scimitar blades - their ability to change form so easily was called animorphism, he thought the doctor said. All this time, he was never told that the doctor had also altered his skin's structure. No wonder nothing would slice through his skin, for it was fortified - much like inconel alloys, the fifth strongest metal in the world. Later in the month, the crew was attacked by policemen disguised as one of their allies. Geisha, the captain, and countless other subordinates were killed. Archie, one of the very few remaining alive, was sent to the Labyrinth as a captive Outlaw.

Abilities: Archie's forearms can convert to deadly, 3 foot-long scimitars. His skin is near inpenetrable (infused with inconel alloys), although it can be melted by fire or other extreme heats.

Equipment: None, since his arms and his skin are all he really needs.

Skills: An expert on swordfighting and steering ships, he is exceptional at hand-to-hand combat. He is also good at dodging, and is very agile.

NOTE: He is in no way related to Archie of Team Aqua.

@Heartist, accepted, so long as the poison is a little bit weaker. The way I see it, as it stands, if someone gets hit by his blades once that means they die. If the poison maybe just weakened does for a bit without killing them - maybe caused intense pain that makes using magic and adept powers difficult, or intense fatigue - that would work. Or if it was possible to fight off the poison, just difficult and painful.
