Losing Erika hadn't been easy for Nathan but he had been forced to come to terms with the fact that he had done it to himself. He realized that by realizing that no one cared about him, he had made that come true. Nathan had been struck for a day or so about how foolish he had been, that he had assumed he'd come home a changed man and things would be okay. He hadn't really tried to talk Erika out of it, he simply had told her that he had messed up, he was sorry and that he still cared. All of these things were true.
Instead of moping however, he had thrown himself into his music. His journey had made him realize that he couldn't deny his talent any longer, that he had to embrace his destiny as the voice of a generation. The thought had made him smile and he promised himself that he was going to be the best there ever was.
Sophie had been quite concerned about her brother's well being after the breakup. She had been surprised and relieved when she realized that he was okay. Better than okay in fact. Better than he had been in a long time. And listening to him practice from his wing of the house, she really liked the new direction he was taking his sound. Less technical, more instinct, feel and emotion. Eventually she knocked on his door.
"Who is it?" Nathan shouted out
"Me. Still practicing?" Sophie asked, stepping inside. Nathan was sitting outside on his balcony with his guitar, the gadget Neil had given him and a cold beer.
"Getting this final bit to sound right." He explained. "How does it sound?"
"It's... Good. Really good." Sophie eventually replied.
