What are some things you don't like about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Not a fan of TM crafting because of the "extra effort" required to KO Pokemon and grab all the ingredients. If TMs still dropped the way TRs did after Max Raids this wouldn't be near as much of a problem, but some of the main competitive moves are locked behind the crafting system.

This feels more like a dex-fill game than plot based imo. You do far more catching in this game than progressing any story at all.
How is this a dex-fill game? I beat all of Scarlet's storylines after only catching like eight Pokémon (The Starter [Fuecoco], Flamigo, Paldean Wooper, Ralts, Smoliv, and Chewtle). I also caught and used Hoppip and Wigglet before swapping them out with Smoliv (which I had intended to do anyway) and Chewtle respectively.

If any game is a dex-fill game, that would be: Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee and Legends: Arceus.

They didn't pull it off, Satoru Iwata did it for them. Basically, anyway. But back then, they didn't have the constraints they do now either. New games are releasing almost yearly. They need to slow it down. But the Pokemon Company probably won't let them. :/
well i have been hearing that the pokemon company is being rather strict and really only seems to allow game freak to make pokemons games and only sometimes lets other devs work on pokemon games nowadays. and from what i heard, the gen 4 remakes were suppose to be much more different as there were actually concept arts for how the remakes would of been. but then the pokemon company just forced them to make a 3D carbon copy of the gen 4 games, likely to rush them and to get the people to stop begging for the gen 4 remakes. that and game freak was busy with legends arceus. its a real shame that they don't allow other devs to work on pokemon games as often cause other devs actually put way more effort into them compared to how game freak does. take a look at the first ever pokemon 3d game for the N64 called pokemon snap, which by the way, were made by the same devs who made kirby, HAL laboratory. they would later make pokemon stadium and the sequel and those games at the time were really good. sadly we can't really expect better quality pokemon games with how strict the pokemon company is...and only allows game freak to make the games but even then, they seem to be pushing them

What I don't like about SV:

  • Dexit (I wanted a Steelix!)
  • Clearing Team Star Camps is not entertaining to play through at all
  • No dungeons or puzzles. Instead of having so many Team Star Camps they could have made 2 camps where you actually have to fight and riddle through. Remember Silph Scope? You had to go through the casino, through the company building, had to collect the Lift Key, the Card Key , all to progress further. Things you actually had to fight through. You had to fight your way through all the caves and dugeons. you could have implemented such dungeons in an open world, too.
  • The open world is not that exciting because there's not really much to discover besides basic items and Pokémon.
  • Cities are really boring - there's the same few shops in every city, sometimes multiple times per city, but not really much to do. I had no fun exploring the citys besides really nice architecture because there's nothing to do in the citys.

yeah, the "open world" aspect of the game is rather boring since there isn't really a whole lot of locations to even explore and they usually don't have anything good. what makes open world games fun is all those side locations and dungeons for you to explore even rewarding you for exploring and fighting your way through. so it encourages you to look for these locations and obtain some loot at the end. but, if you take those away, the game feels rather empty and this...oversized map in scarlet and violet really doesn't encourage you to explore since this game lacks any good side locations. yes there are some ruins but what is there to find? all you'll find are some pokemons, and some random items that you've already been gathering. and the cities/towns really lack buildings you can go inside and the only buildings you can go inside are the shops (which lack interiors and i hate the fact that your camera changes direction when you leave the shop which ended up making me go back inside the shop because of the camera screwing me over), some sandwich shops which i'm surprised even have interiors, gyms, and the main buildings you need to go to in order to progress the story. yes there are team star locations across the map, but those are locations you HAVE to go in order to progress the game's story. so yeah, some dungeons as side locations would of added some fun to the game and funny thing is, they already kind of pulled that off in legends arceus with that one ancient building in the snowy location. its the building that had a alpha gallade in it.

-The map. I don't understand why it rotates in that way, it doesn't show the pokémon that are actually spawning in the area, but the ones that could spawn there which is inconvenient. Also the zoom levels are so annoying.
-The lack of shiny sound/sparkle. I am never going to get over this, especially with so many tiny and barely different shinies.
-Lack of gym leader/E4 rematches. They could've put them in the Academy Tournament like in SwSh. Maybe they'll be in the DLC like in Sw Sh but I hate this.
-The false "open world". If there are obstacles to where you want to go, it's not really open world, is it?
-The lack of level scaling. Again, if there is an order in which they want you to go, it's not open world.
-The camera. Again, some pokemon are tiny and I want to make them camera close up on them and I can't.

yeah, thats what sucks about this "open world" aspect of the game. there isn't really a whole lot to explore, and level scaling is almost none existent. the only level scaling there is are the gym battles as far as i know. maybe same with titan pokemon and team star locations but i haven't got a chance to do those parts of the game. this can be a problem cause there is bound to be some difficulty spikes like there is this one location where pokemon have a fixed level of 50 and the game doesn't restrict you from going there so some people may end up wandering in that location and get their team wiped out because of this. that nearly happened to me.

- As I am starting to get into shiny breeding with the Masuda method, I am finding this new breeding with picnics mechanic irritating and demotivating. It has no structure and is far less straightforward and efficient.

I can't tell if generating an egg is based on biding time with picnic activities which there are not enough of or just random but I'm at least 95% certain it's not steps and new eggs are not generated with hatching steps guaranteeing there will be another to collect when the previous one hatched. Instead after hatching, the generating process needs to be repeated and generating times seem to be random. I got the first 4 or 5 eggs within a few seconds of picnicking but now minutes are passing with nothing even though I have level one egg power.

This is so stupid and it's making the Masuda method longer and annoying.

- Making sandwiches is such a finicky process. You have to stack the ingredients just right and at least half the time the bread falls off. I used to make sandwiches in the Safeway Deli, it's not that precise and it's not that difficult to get the top piece of bread on.

- It sucks having such limited customization options. I understand the private school theme but no one likes school uniforms and we spend so little time at the actual school that it doesn't make sense. It's worse in Scarlet because the uniform colors are so uggo. At least the Violet winter variation is tolerable because it has nice colors and textures. I'm also super salty that we don't get an Eevee backpack or a Pikachu backpack like Penny's.

- The map is a pain in the ass to navigate without all the ride functions, at least the first time around. I got lost and ran around in a lot of circles and hit a lot of dead ends repeatedly my first time trying to find a lot of the gym towns and the GPS was better in Legends Arceus.

- The lack of level scaling makes the open world concept a double-edged sword. You can challenge yourself by doing the higher leveled areas early but you'll be absurdly over-leveled for the lower-level areas. Therefore, there is still a chronological order and my last point about the map being a pain in the ass without all the ride functions kind of encourages you to either follow it or prioritize the titans.

It's even more difficult to prevent over-leveling when shiny hunting outbreaks. I've been attempting to shuffle my team to both get experience using different Pokemon and to avoid using my over-leveled mons to more or less cheat some areas like the Fighting Team Star camp and am barely pulling it off.

How is it a dex-fill game when there are not one but THREE battle-based paths and Dex-filling as usual is not required? You choose how much catching you do. You could fill your team one time and get through all the story content with just that team.

Yeah, I was confused myself when I saw that post. I only caught like 8 Pokémon during the story.

UPDATE: Alright so I found out meal powers only last 30 minutes, so I am adding expense to the list of factors that make the Masuda Method annoying with this breeding mechanic.

While these are definitely looking like they could be my favorite games in the series, they certainly have their problems. Besides all the glitches (which I honestly don't mind too much, some of them are rather funny), there are a few things I don't like.

  • It's been mentioned before, but I'll say it again. The character customization in this game is not great, in particular the clothing customization. Why are we stuck in the uniforms the whole time? Like, I can see us being automatically changed into our uniform when entering the school grounds, but when I'm out exploring Paldea I should be able to wear casual clothing. It's really annoying considering the fact that they actually did a really great job with the character customization itself. There are so many options for faces and hair. Additionally, we have so many different accessories, but I don't even feel like using them because I can't coordinate my outfit to fit with them. I really hope this is something they change with the DLC
  • The lack of noise/sparkle effect when shinies appear in the overworld. I don't understand why they chose to do this, especially when Legends Arceus had it and it worked so well. Like, I can not grasp why they changed it. I would really like it if they brought at least one of the two back, especially considering the fact that there are a lot of shinies (many having been introduced in this game) that have very minor differences in their shiny forms. It makes me wonder how many I have missed simply because they spawned in while I didn't have my camera turned in that direction.
  • No level scaling. Why were we told we could go any way we want (or something along those lines) and then not have any level scaling? It's ridiculous.
  • ...Why didn't Professor Jacq get a little extra story bit like some of the other Professors did? Please I love my purple-haired goofy nerd I want to see him get some more characterization
I'll update this post if I think of anything more.

Well, for starters, and as probably most do, I don't like the lags and framerate drops in certain areas. I wish Game Freak did actually patch that.

Another thing that is not cool at all is the health bar of a Pokemon in Tera Raids. It doesn't reflect the actual health of the Pokemon at all and changes all the time. It is so bad. I sometimes feel like the damn bar is actually lying to me (the only way to actually know the Pokemon's actual health is to look it up in the small icons before selecting who to hit with a move). They HAVE to patch that huge error.

Also, the lack of mass releasing Pokemon. Since I am a shiny hunter and I do Masuda method for a few mons, I end up with a lot of eggs, later shiny rejects. I have to reset the game if I don't get the shiny since releasing each reject one at a time is time consuming.

And finally, I might be among the few, but I would have liked a visual or sound cue for shinies that appear in the overworld. That would be especially helpful for the "bad" shinies (ones that barely change), like Igglybuff or Tadbulb. Pokemon also do spawn BEHIND you when you move so I actually wonder how many times I have probably missed a shiny because I didn't turn back and kept going.

One last thing, it is not even a complaint more so than a wish, but I would like Game Freak to host online Tera Raid events that feature Pokemon that can give all the Herba Mysticas, like Amoongus and Dondozo. That would be awesome to farm those items because I usually don't have that many and I have to keep grinding five and six start raids to get a few Herbas.

EDIT: I agree with many people here. Level scaling should have implemented, and it would have added soooooo much replayability. The ability to tackle gyms/ team star camps / titans in any order you like (and have them be around the level of your party Pokemon or number of badges) would have been so amazing.

Few gripes
  • No level scaling
  • Can’t enter most house/buildings anymore
  • Unpolished graphics and clunky performance at times
  • Lack of E4 rematches
  • Removing set battle style
  • Minimap orientation can be a bit awkward
  • Some of the pokemon really
  • Still not implementing following pokemon properly

Then there’s general things like forced exp share, no voice acting, difficulty settings, etc. Also preferred the aiming/ throwing mechanics from PLA but ig they were being developed alongside each other

-The fact that 5-star Tera raids are so hard if you don't EV train/IV breed your Pokemon, and that you need to rely on other people to have a chance of beating them. Add to that the fact that Herba Mysticas are so rare and limited to certain Pokemon, and it makes the whole thing a huge chore. I just want one Sweet Herba Mystica!
-I don't like open world.
-I don't like the way the towns are put together. There are way too many people, and it gives me a headache trying to figure out who you can actually talk to. There are too many buildings, too, and you can't go into most of them, and there are too many duplicates of the same building. Do we really need two Seabreeze Cafes in one town, let alone three or four?
-"Software closed due to an error." This has happened way too many times to me.

The lack of version differences in terms of dialogue. I wish Arven's parents didn't sound like they share the same brain lol.

i really want to go into buildings liike in sw/sh
That is intolerable for a huge company such as Game Freak. What happened, their brains are already mushy for thinking just about money, money, money? In past games you could explore buildings. Heck, in X/Y there was SO much to explore in Lumiose City, and that's in the 3DS!

In Scarlet and Violet, the "cities" are the Pyonyangs of the Pokémon World. All pretty and big, but they are only for show, they're just stages, facades.

Shops, I get the annoyance, but do we really need to be able to go into every house?
