What are your game headcanons?

While in the eggs during Arceus's action of bringing a new member of the Creation trio to life, Arceus accidentally used most of the power from the Adamant and Lustrous Orbs, thus explaining why Dialga and Palkia weren't born in their original forms. The power of the Griseous Orb would destroy the egg if used to create it, which is why Giratina managed to be born in its original form.

Just like the humans that exist there, Poipole and Naganadel used to look different when Ultra Megalopolis was filled with light. Over time, they adapted to the darkness, developing luminescent eyes and secretions while taking on a more vivid body color that their special eyes can perceive more clearly in the dark. The versions of them that we see now are something akin to regional variants, but without a type change. None of the original variant of Poipole exist anymore, although darkness-adapted Poipole and Naganadel that possess the Shiny gene display a color scheme that is similar to that of the original variants.

Type: Null was Gladion's Morality Pet. Due to the abuse Gladion had suffered, he moght have gone off the deep end if he didn't have to worry about caring for Type: Null. Also, he dedicated a good portion of time to findimg out how to get that damn muzzle off of it.

So we have three sets of Regis - the group in Hoenn, the group in Sinnoh, and the group in Unova. And yet only two Regigigas (one in Sinnoh and one in Unova). But why?

It's a fairly common theory that the Regigigas in Sinnoh was "sealed away" and that the three Regis were taken to Hoenn so as to make the release of Regigigas extra difficult. This is based on an interpretation of the Sealed Chamber text:
IN THIS CAVE WE HAVE LIVED.
WE OWE ALL TO THE POKEMON.
BUT, WE SEALED THE POKEMON AWAY.
WE FEARED IT.
THOSE WITH COURAGE, THOSE WITH HOPE.
OPEN A DOOR. AN ETERNAL POKEMON WAITS.

And it's fair to see why - "we sealed the Pokémon away, we feared it" would intuitively point toward an individual Pokémon. This becomes even more convincing once you consider that, until Platinum, the only way to obtain Regigigas was to transfer a set of Regis up from the Hoenn games and then bring them to Snowpoint Temple. But nevertheless, I contend that this is not the case. For one thing, the Japanese version of that text doesn't indicate a singular or plural subject. Moreover, if the Regis in Hoenn were the "keys" to the Sinnoh Regigigas, then why would there another set of Regis sealed at various points in Sinnoh? And of course, the games never actually say anything about Regigigas being sealed away - we're told instead that the Snowpoint Temple was built in honor of the Pokémon, and it's the Pokédex entries of Regirock and Registeel that say they were "sealed away." Unlike those Regis, there is no convoluted cryptic puzzle needed to "unlock" the Snowpoint Temple - you merely need to beat the Champion in order to be recognized as strong enough to enter. Regigigas's Pokédex entries mention nothing about any kind of imprisonment, and what's more is, ORAS revealed that it is in fact free to come and go as it pleases.

So what gives? Well, first, I am going to propose that the Regigigas in Sinnoh corresponds solely to the set of Regis in Sinnoh. Those are the ones that it created, and after whatever tectonic shenanigans they were involved in, they found ideal places within their homeland to lie dormant and rest.

Meanwhile, in Hoenn, there was another Regigigas that created a different set of Regis. This lot helped a group of humans (who may not have even been from Hoenn originally) eke out a way of life for themselves amid the harsh nature of the early Hoenn region. The set of Regis are still there to this day, but where did the Regigigas go?

What if it went to Unova? Suppose that the Hoennian Regis helped out their allies before one of Groudon and Kyogre's destructive conflicts (indeed, we are told in ORAS that one of the conditions for Regigigas to appear in ORAS is the presence of abundant natural energy like the kind that Groudon and Kyogre fight over, which is relayed to us by a girl relaying her Sinnohan grandfather's old tales). But once those two began to clash, the entire ecosystem of Hoenn was thrown into chaos, and all of the Regis' work stood to be undone. However, the people were undecided about how they wished to proceed. Some wanted to escape to a faraway land, while others were reluctant to abandon the place they'd come to call home. It was then decided that the three Regis would stay behind and safeguard those who wished to stay, while Regigigas would leave with the others and help them forge a new home elsewhere.

Upon arriving in Unova, Regigigas assisted its people in doing just that. It birthed a new trio of Regis, although after having already done so once before, this heavily drained its energy. Regigigas was not able to contribute to the establishment of this new home, and it was forced to go into hibernation soon after their arrival. The people located a den beneath Twist Mountain for it to occupy, and carved statues of the Regis to accompany it, both in honor of all that Regigigas had done for them and also to provide it with a memory of its children while it slept.

Meanwhile, back in Hoenn, the outlook was dire. Kyogre and Groudon would not cease their battle. The Regis were forced to exert even more of their power in extreme measures to keep the people safe. For a time, they made their home in a cave system on the south edge of the region, until the water began to rise due to Kyogre's influence. The people were left with no choice but to abandon the soon-submerged caves, but after bearing witness to the raw power of Kyogre and Groudon as well as the fearsome strength of the Regis, they had come to distrust and fear powerful Pokémon. The people felt that they had no choice but the leave Hoenn, but no longer wanted to bring the Regis with them. And so the Regis were sealed away, with a message left behind in the caves for anyone who might discover it, providing instructions to unlock the Regis for anybody who might have better luck than they did. The handful of survivors then sailed off to another island location, the Sevii Islands, and settled there. It was relatively peaceful, although the damage had already been done and their culture did not last long. On the other side of things, the sorrow of the three Hoennian Regis - separated from both their creator and their people - was felt by the Regigigas in Sinnoh, who made it a point to come and care for them periodically. And many, many, many decades, maybe even a century later, descendants of the Unovan group learned of their origins, and set about on a long sail back to Hoenn to see if they could discover the lost Regis. They were never successful, although they got close. They took a liking to the Hoenn region, and set up a new home for themselves atop the sea, calling it Pacifidlog.

I have a few points of evidence for this. First, in the Underground Ruins in B2W2, a Hiker says that the soil in that cave is very similar to soil samples found in the Hoenn region. This would make sense if Hoennian people had migrated to Unova and brought along certain resources with them, like Hoenn's rich, Berry-favoring soil, in addition to any sediment that might have flaked off of Regigigas. Secondly, the Sealed Chamber text speaks of the Regis with a sort of fearful gratitude, while the Underground Ruins text identifies the Regis as "the protectors," a more positively heroic designation. Furthermore, there's the puzzle element. The Sinnoh Regis really don't have the kind of complex, riddle-based unlocking mechanisms that we see with the Hoenn and Unova Regis. That could point to a similar ways of thinking between the people of Hoenn and Unova, and a very different way of thinking between them and the people of Sinnoh. And lastly, there's the languages. In Hoenn, everything is in Braille, and you have to translate it. But the messages in the Regi locations in Sinnoh don't need to be translated, nor do the messages in the Underground Ruins. Of course, the protagonists of the Hoenn and Sinnoh games are both (nominally) Japanese, as even the former still hails from Johto originally. Similarly, the protagonists of the Unova games aren't implied to have just moved to the region or anything like that, so Poké-English might well be their native language and the old text in the Underground Ruins is easier to decipher. But what happens when the Poké-Japanese-speaking protagonist of the Hoenn games discovers some ancient texts that are actually a root of Poké-English? Then there's some translation required.

The normal Rayquaza we see is in fact, Primal Rayquaza. The Mega form of it gives it too much power that the yellow streak running along its body comes off (not to mention, the shiny stays black upon Mega Evolving). To support the idea that normal Rayquaza is Primal Rayquaza, the shiny form gives it away. It's black, you know who are black in their shinies and are part of the Weather Trio? Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, their weakened forms' shinies are a dirty yellow and hot pink, respectively while their Primal forms' shinies are black.

Probably done this one before but

The 3000 years ago war was between Galar and Kalos (cause they're britain and france) and Zacian and Zamazenta were involved. Yes, I know the game said it was between two rival Kalos factions but screw that. If you want to mix some Anime into there, the 3000 years ago war was the war Sir Aaron set out to stop.

-Cynthia owns her own private island, which she bought after becoming Champion so she could have a place to escape to & continue to do her freelance researcher work. This is the house she's referring to in Platinum with her line "My house? Even the region is a secret!" (Contrary to popular belief, she is in fact a born & bred Sinnohite - I think that's pretty strongly alluded to with the scenes involving her grandmother in Celestic Town)

-Ryuki was the Dragon-type Gym Leader in Galar for many years, until he decided to travel to other regions to check out their takes on Pokémon Gyms. Raihan became his successor mostly because of how well he performed in the previous Champions' Cups, and thus he was forced to make some modifications to his original weather-based team in order to change it into a Dragon-type team.

1. At some point in the past Professor Oak was the Kanto league champion.
2. League champions earn a lot of money for as long that they can defend there title.
3. Some of the regions that are not show so far don't have Pokémon League but are trying to establish one like Alola did and some regions that are like the Orange Islands in the anime have a minor league or unoffical league of there own.

Bea and Allister are childhood friends who have a friendly rivalry with one another in the Galar League. They met each other through Pokémon training, and became close because they actually have very similar personalities and backgrounds:

-Both are from Stow-on-Side

-Both are among the least outgoing of the Gym Leaders in the Galar League

-Both had traumatic childhoods - Bea's parents are alcoholics (this is not mentioned on her rare League Card because GameFreak has to keep these games E-rated) who would often beat her and yell at her, and Allister was relentlessly bullied by his peers at school because of his short frame and lily-white skin

The main difference between the two, is how they responded to all of this. Whereas Allister simply chose to give into his sense of alienation, hide his face beneath a mask, & resign himself to being a hermit outside of the Gym, Bea decided to take up karate because she saw it as a good way to get out her pent-up anger towards her parents. Along the way, she also learned various meditation techniques and exercises such as qigong to help her with her emotions, and this allowed her to grow into the confident, stoic & focused Gym Leader she is today.

The Gym puzzle, regardless of version, is actually Allister's idea, which was inspired by an amusement park ride he had fond memories of. In Sword, Bea thought his idea was funny & couldn't think of anything else so she used it for her Gym puzzle too.

Alright, time for my headcanon list for legendary Pokemon genders (the list will not include legendary Pokemon who already has confirmed genders and will not include Mythical Pokemon):

Necrozma is genderless, it is a being that is made primarily out of light, after all.

Cosmog and Cosmoem are genderless until they reach their final forms.

Solgaleo is male, Lunala is female.

Dialga and Giratina are male, Palkia is female.

Reshiram is female while Zekrom and Kyurem are male.

Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza are all males.

Zacian is female while Zamazenta is male.

Eternatus is male.

Mewtwo is dependent on which DNA strand from which Mew was taken.

Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres are all male.

Entei and Raikou are male while Suicune is female.

Ho-oh is male while Lugia is female.

Azelf and Uxie are male while Mesprit is female.

Shaymin is female.

Cobalion and Terrakion are male while Virizion is female.

Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde are male.

Tapu Koko and Bulu are male while Lele and Fini are female.

Regirock, Regice, Registeel and Regigigas are all genderless.

Type: Null and Sylvally are dependent on which Pokemon parts were used in their making.

Personally, I didn't get the sense that they were trying to be euphemistic so much as aiming for more of a Cyrus-esque thing where her parents have steep expectations that put an undue amount of pressure on her to do well.

Cobalion and Terrakion are male while Virizion is female.

Technically speaking, Virizion is based on a man.

Eternatus is a giant spine. I don't think it could possibly feasibly have a gender.

I mean, if a mutated pile of sludge can manage...

On a tangential note, something I like about Falinks is that it registers as having an unknown gender - I like to imagine that this is because each of the individual troops could fall anywhere on the gender spectrum.

How do these things mate, anyways?

And the egg always comes out with six of them?

I hate this pokemon!

I hate it more than I hate Khangaskan and Exeggcute!

Technically speaking, Virizion is based on a man.

Nevertheless it was female in PMD.
On the matter of legendaries - my headcanons on rarity of different legendaries and mythicals:

Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres - perfectly mundane Pokemon, only considered legendary due to their power and extreme rarity. The second movie pretty much outright states that the three from Orange Islands are unique and as extremely dangerous as they are not because of WHAT they are, but WHERE they are (on three islands near a powerful ocean current which affects much of the weather in the world).

Mewtwo - one of a kind, duh.

Mew - very rare, but still far more common than humans give them credit for. They're just that good at hiding.

Ho Oh - he's pretty much lesser god, so of course unique.

Lugia - somewhat complicated matter. They're not unique per say, but they're basically angels of the Pokemon world, serving Arceus and the Creation Trio, and therefore are very rare sight on Earth - pretty much only those who are sent with some mission and/or end up going native are ever seen by humans. Ecruteak City Lugia was the most well known, but not the only one and it may or may not be the same as the Whirlwind Islands Lugia, and is certainly completely separate from Orange Islands Lugia.

Raikou, Entei, Suicune - unique.

Celebi - not unique, but hard to say how rare it exactly is.

Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza - unique.

Latias and Latios - possibly the most common of all legendaries.

Regice, Regirock, Registeel - very limited in numbers, no more than a dozen of each.

Deoxys - unique.

Jirachi - very rare.

Lake Trio - unique.

Creation Trio - until the events of HG/SS unique, after that Arceus created a second Giratina (or Dialga, or Palkia. But I'm assuming it was Giratina). Additionally, like Arceus, they can create and control many physical bodies at once.

Arceus - unique, but, being god and all, can create and control many avatars at once.

Regigigas - unique.

Darkrai and Cresselia - both unique. Tobias having Darkrai was totally not canon. Tobias's very existence was not canon, Ash actually simply got disqualified from Sinnoh League for using Kanto Pokemon.

Shaymin - not unique and relatively common.

Heatran - same.

Manaphy and Phione - same.

Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem - unique.

Keldeo and Muskeeters - unique.

Forces of Nature - unique.

Meloetta - probably unique.

Victini - unique.

Genesect - only limited ammount was created.

Xerneas and Yveltal - unique.

Zygarde - unique, as far as a hive mind can be an individual. That said, while no more than ten cores can exist at any given time, if one of them gets destroyed, one of the cells will turn into a new one.

Diancie - rare, but not unique mutation of Carbink.

Hoopa - unique, at least in the main universe - that said, it may or may not be actually an Ultra Beast and therefore there may or may not be more in the multiverse.

Volcanion - not unique.

Tapus - unique.

Type:Null and Silvally - only three exist prior to Sw/Sh, after that an unknown, but still limited larger ammount.

Cosmog family - not unique, being UBs.

Necrozma - unique.

Magearna - unique.

Marshadow - not unique, but good at hiding.

Zeraora - not unique and relatively common (why is it mythical again?)

Meltan and Melmetal - rather common.

Zacian and Zamazenta - unique.

Huh. I always headcanoned Lugia as merely the overseers of the Legendary Birds. Whereveer there is a trio of Legendary Birds, there is a Lugia to deal with them if they ever get too rowdy.
