What are your game headcanons?

For another one of my headcanons;

* Prior to the 'invention' of Porygon, Voltorb and most 'modern' artificial pokemon, wars were fought using Pokemon like battle companions - you would fight together, Pokemon fighting pokemon, man versus man. This is how wars stayed for a very long time, with most militaries keeping a special set of pokemon bred for these types of extreme battles.

But everything changed, when the Fire Nation---*cough* sorry, everything changed when Voltorb came about, and its evolution's explosive power was seen as a very useful technique for warfare. In the war Lt. Surge was part of, there was chaos all over the world so great that most people had to undergo government-instated amnesia programmes. The chaos was caused because of the ability to utilise Electrode explosions as 'suicide' missions, dropping them at strategic points and watching the devastation unfold. This is also part of the reason that so many regions in the pokemon world have large gaps between routes and towns that are uninhabited - they were damaged, destroyed, and/or had all residents undergo the amnesia programme.

Coincidentally, Lt. Surge never knew what pokemon saved him in the war. This is because it was in fact a Stunfisk, which he did not know at the time. Stunfisk used its type advantage to ground the electrical attacks used in the war, and even dampened the area so no Electrodes could explode while Surge escaped.

EDIT: More;

The reason why evolutionary families are separated in the National Pokedex is because Professor Oak is intentionally stopping anyone else from re-ordering the 'complete' pokedex, citing that they must be in the order he "discovered" them - even if they predate his 'discoveries' of the pokemon native to Kanto.

Yeah, Slowpoke Tails is pretty unnerving.

Edit: Oh, wait! Don't Slowpokes shed their tails or something? I think I remember that from the original series.

RE: Voltorb, Amoongus and the Pokeball issue.

- When the Pokeball (or its modern incarnation) was designed, the product managers drew inspiration from the coloration of existing Pokemon. This baseline product became popular, and started to be viewed as the 'standard' coloration for Pokeballs. Voltorb doesn't look like a Pokeball, Pokeballs look like Voltorb.

Adding to this, the designer of the Great Ball had seen shiny Voltorb, so he modeled his Great Ball after that. The same goes for Foongus and the Master Ball.

Dunno how canon it is, but it's plausible: There're lizards in real life that can shed their tails and regrow them.

Actually, the idea that Slowpoke tails can be humanely harvested works out pretty well: Slowpoke are dopey, with some of their dex entries saying they're basically too dumb to feel pain much, so it should be possible to detach a tail without too much discomfort. Since this takes a lot of care and caution, they can't be mass harvested, which is why they're so expensive- scarcity. Team Rocket decided to forgo that and used more painful methods to get more tails quickly, which is why what they're doing is bad, but not others.

Tropius were bred by humans to grow bananas, perhaps. Or the bananas were preexisting but humans bred them to produce more and larger bananas. Either way, that resulted in an extremely homogenous Tropius population at some point in the past that was far-reaching across the pokemon world as people harvested their fruit (and potentially slaughtered them for meat, but that's not relevant). Then, Panama disease came (Panama disease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), which in real life nearly wiped out the banana plants in the 1950's since all the real world bananas were essentially genetically identical and thus had no resistance to the disease.

In real life, we created a new strain of banana to replace the old one, and the only old ones that survived were in the jungles of Southeast Asia. In the pokemon world, let's say that they couldn't genetically engineer Tropius very well, so they couldn't develop a new strain, so the only Tropius that survived Panama disease were the ones hidden away deep in the jungles south of Fortree City.

And that's why Tropius is such a rare pokemon!

this one is weird and won't make any sense to anyone but me, but: Murkrow are smugglers that deal items like rare candy and stuff to other pokemon.

I know... I'm very strange. :|

I think it makes perfect sense. The Murkrow Mafia are lead by the head Honchkrow.

- All Player Characters posses an innate skill called "Foresight" (not to be confused with the Pokemon move) enabling them to "see" which enemy Pokemon is coming next and choose whether to counter them or not ("Shift"). The PC themselves aren't aware of this talent and figures everyone can do this.

- Though all PC variants posses this trait and are indeed unaware of it, some have either subconsciously sealed it off or simply fail to utilize said trait ("Set").

- Despite the mentioned, there are those aware of this skill and as such the many known Battle Facilities exist so that the PC and specialized Trainers like them can further develop their skills on their own and rise up to become the representative of "their world" to take part in the grueling battles for glory that exist within "the link".

- Everyone's PC is indeed the canon hero. Of their own universe. When Link Trades & Battles/GTS/PSS happens it is merely a border within Time/Space linking the multiple worlds to one another.

Whenever the Pokedex mentions something that isn't normally possible, it is referring to an individual or group of individual specimens of a pokemon that have demonstrated such abilities, including:
- A Tyranitar that levelled a mountain (possibly an example of a Giant Pokemon)
- A Kadabra which was a transformed boy
- Numerous Bannette found in trash cans and in the wild who did not evolve from Shuppet, but actually did become pokemon from dolls
- Any Yamask which was bred rather than found in the wild.

Carrying from this, a Yamask and Cofagrigus that was bred is not a 'pure' example of the pokemon species, having its own unique mind and pokemon mindset rather than being a former human. The same applies to any Bannette which evolved from a Shuppet, as they were never dolls to begin with.

Also, the fathers of all the protagonists except for the RSE one were actually dittos, with their mothers being part of a big underground experiment among the professors to crossbreed humans and pokemon to create a new species. These new "Protagonist Trainers" were the results, and have a much easier time befriending pokemon and raising them, explaining why trainers such as Red, Blue, Leaf, Ethan, Lyra, Kris and Rosa all manage to best every trainer in their wake and catch every pokemon. In the case of Brendan and May, the one who is Birch's child is not part of the experiment, which is why s/he gives up on his/her quest. However, the other one moved to Hoenn from the Johto region and was part of the experiment.
Interestingly, this also means that all the protagonists were not 'born' but hatched from eggs.

Also, humans and pokemon were originally a single species; this is part of the canon. However, humans descend almost directly from Mew, as Mew is the only pokemon known to give birth rather than produce eggs.

that would also explain cubone, and larvitar.

Headcannon: The events of X and Y place around 2.5-4 years after the events of BW (so maybe just a little after the events of B2W2), and at least 8-10 years after RSE/FrLg things have changed in Kanto and Hoenn since the Pallet Town/Littleroot Town Trainers left on their respective journeys. The Kanto Region is now joined to Johto via the Magnet Train. The game corners in both Kanto and Hoenn have both shut down, one due to its ties to team rocket and the money from that side of thing drying up, the other so that Wattson could build a new gym and power plant to better serve his challengers and the Hoenn region with electrifying battles and clean reliable energy. All stray electricity from the Pokémon feeds right into the grid saving energy. Water attacks go down a drain and power turbines. Grass type moves have left over lawn and leaf clippings, and any left over solar power processed and recycled. and fire attacks have their heat energy used for various other applications. Blue still heads the Veridian gym, but has taken up studying to become a Prof like his grandfather. Oak is getting older, and absent minded. Thus his assistants help with most of his research. Bill has converted the PC system to run like that of Hoenn and Kalos, which has optimized it and further increased storage capacity. He has also set up base in the Goldenrod Department Store's basement to house the new servers for the Pokémon Bank system. His house in the Cape is borderline horder-like conditions where its filled to the ceiling with equipment and outdated paper media files he is digitizing when he has spare time.

Lysandre formed Team Flare in part because of Getsis' plan to capture Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyurem to force everyone in Unova to release their Pokemon and rule Unova. This is why Lysandre says all Pokemon must die so that no one will selfishly use Pokemon to gain power.

Drayden sees Iris as his actual daughter. I can't help but imagine him playing tea party with her.

The 5 "neutral" Natures (Hardy, Docile, Serious, Bashful and Quirky) aren't specifically made to be neutral. Rather, since every Nature has one boosted and one reduced stat, the five neutral Natures are the result of the same stat being boosted and reduced.

Hardy: Attack boosted and reduced
Docile: Defense boosted and reduced
Serious: Speed etc.
Bashful: Special Attack etc.
Quirky: Special Defense etc.

Actually, this one's true, though I'm not sure if the natures match up to the stats exactly like that.

... Yeah, here we go. Based on how they're ordered in XY when you search by nature in the PC, it's exactly what you said there.

EDIT: New headcannon. This was a rumor around my school when the first Pokemon games came out when I was twelve @_@

• A Cubone is a Charmander whose tail flame went out. It's ashamed, so it hides its face behind a skull.

Orre became a desert wasteland due to a laboratory accident.

"Cinnebar Mansion" was a lab where they did all sorts of horrifying experiments on pokèmon and kidnapped low-class Cinnebar Islanders (bums, drunkards, etc.)

The bags use pokèball technology, allowing storage of massive quantities of objects.

Rare Candies are illegal to sell but not illegal to use or posses.

Red suffered damage to his vocal cords from the cold air atop Mount Silver, rendering him mute.

Tucker likes to crossdress and moonlights as a stripper.
