What are your game headcanons?

Mega evolution WAS discovered in Kalos, just not as recently as we thought: Meg-evo was discovered in Kalos back around the time that generation I and III took place. The concept didn't become widespread that quickly, but it did make it's way to Hoenn. In the Pokemon Origins universe, this would also explain Mr. Fuji's mega stones.

The ORAS demo is actually a dream the main character is having. They're having it a little bit before they arrive in Littleroot Town. Basically it's that "main character having a dream/nightmare that somehow foreshadows what's about to happen" cliche. The fact that you're able to transfer the Glalie/Steelix you catch in the demo to the main game is in fact a precursor to the Dreamworld of Gen V.

My head canons are

Fr/Lg happen at the same time as emerald, r/s/or/as are not canon however The megas story and the primals story are canon to the history of pokemon
Platnuim takes place 3 years later roughly a few months after Hg/Ss
Black/white take place 10 years after that because of the grunt from team rocket having a team seeminly around that age.
Black2/white2 of course are 2 years later and happens at the same time as x/y

edit:
Even with emerald as the canon steven is the true champion and is replaced by wallace by the time black 2 rolls around
also after seeing wallaces new design yeah wasn't gonna say this before but i think wallace is gay
2fab4me xD
The new characters in or/as are also canon to me, as are the redesigns

and alittle personal one

Since I started in kanto with fire red, and my next game was emerald. My head canon is my character moved from Kanto to Hoenn (fire red to emerald)

Mo' headcanons

*Red and Leaf were twins, brother and sister, and they left on their journey's at the same time. But Leaf decided to work with Mr. Fuji in Lavender Town halfway through her journey, which is why Red has all the fame. After Red went missing and never returned from his search for Mew, Leaf set out with her Venusaur to find him, and continue her journey.

*Red was at Mt. Silver hunting for the last Pokemon in the Kanto Pokedex, Mew (As seen at the end of Pokemon Origins). He never found Mew, and after being defeated by Ethan, he finally realized that this wasn't the way to go about it, isolating himself from the world, so he returned, which is why he was in Black 2 and White 2, he'd moved on with his life and continued to catch Pokemon and meet trainers in different regions. Mew still eludes him.

*Mew is the direct creation of Arceus after the Lake Trio and the Creation Trio, and all other non-Legendary Pokemon evolved from Mew (Other then Genesect, as it used to be a normal Pokemon, and Mewtwo, although I suppose Mewtwo is the child of Mew).

*The reason another Mewtwo appears in X and Y is because Team Flare was experimenting in creating new and powerful Pokemon, and scavenged data from Pokemon Mansion. Learning from Team Rocket's failures, they also created the two Mewtonite Mega Stones. However, this new Mewtwo also escaped, and lived peacefully in Pokemon Village until Calem/Serena captured it.

*At the current time of B2/W2 and X/Y, the Kanto league is:

Elite 4 Lyra
Elite 4 Leaf
Elite 4 Ethan
Elite 4 Lance
Champion Red

The PC's however often go on their own journeys and aren't at the league often, so the E4 is often the same as it was in HG/SS, with Lance as Champion.

*Red's starter was Charmander, after becoming Champion he received a Squirtle egg from Blue, the offspring of his starter, and he received a Bulbasaur from Professor Oak

*He met his Pikachu in Viridian Forest, where it saved him from a swarm of Beedril. Similar to the anime, it dislikes Pokeballs.

*Ditto are failed attempts at cloning Mew/Mewtwo. This is only known to a few however.

*Legendaries are much too powerful to ever truly be caught, and they simply allow the PC's to believe they've succeeded, as they see them as worthy trainers.

*The only Legendary species that have multiple individuals are Mewtwo (Multiple clones, very rare), Mew (17 were created by Arceus, the ancestors of all types and a single Mew who has no descendants), Legendary Birds, Lugia, Celebi (Only one, but due to its time traveling powers it inhabits several existences), the Legendary Golems (Each trio of golems and its master each created one of the modern day Regions), Lati@s, Jirachi (One exists for every specimen of comet made of a rare mineral), Deoxys (One is created from every individual of the space virus it originates from), Creation Trio/Arceus (They can divide their conciseness into multiple existences. The presence of a single individual with its entire conciseness in one place would kill anyone near it with its sheer power), Manaphy, Phione, Heatran (One for each volcano in existence), Legendary Beasts (All descended from the originals created by Ho-Oh), Shaymin, Swords of Justice (Keldeo as a species often go through a rite of passage battling Kyurem in order to join the Swords, there are multiple individuals of all 4), Genesect (As it was originally a normal pokemon, only 5 have been resurrected however)

*Legendaries and their current befriended/captured status (Along with a PC's starter)

Red (Charizard): Mewtwo, Mew, Legendary Birds, Suicune

Leaf (Venusaur): Moltres, Mew, Entei

Blue (Blastoise): Zapdos, Raikou

Ethan (Typhlosion): Ho-Oh, Legendary Beasts, Celebi

Silver (Feraligator): Lugia, Raikou

Lyra (Meganium): Suicune, Celebi

Brendan (Swampert): Groudon, Latios, Mew, Deoxys, Rayquaza

May (Blaziken): Kyogre, Latias, Deoxys, Legendary Golems, Jirachi

F.O.P. (Free Our Pokemon)

-Leaf is not canon. At least not to the main universe. If anything she exists in one of those pocket universes surrounding the main world (see my Pokemon Multiverse theory a few posts back).

With my recent fixation on the character Red, this post will be all of my Red headcanons.

Based on available in-game event and gift Pokemon, Red's Pokemon consists of:

-Pikachu
-Lapras
-Snorlax
-Venusaur
-Charizard
-Blastoise
-Espeon
-Aerodactyl
-Togekiss

The events of FR/LG covered about two years, from defeating the Pokemon League, stopping Team Rocket's Sevii Island plot, and defeating the League again a year later with rematch teams. This leaves a year for Red to also travel through Johto quickly and with ease to collect the other eight badges to go to Mt. Silver, his journey through Johto is a lot like Ethan's journey through Kanto, minimal Team Rocket plot and a strong team already built up, not many trainers or miniquests, it just went a lot quicker.

Red sees Ethan early and more or less watches his progress from behind the scenes, like N does to the PC in BW2 as shown in the Memory Link cutscenes.

Red intentionally leads Ethan to test his worthiness of being the Indigo League Champion.

Red travels through all of Kanto, the Sevii Islands, and Johto in search of Mew. Red has completed the Kanto Pokedex up to #150.

Red continues his travels to Unova, entering the PWT as an excuse to search Unova for the elusive Mew. Red caught wind of a rumor that a trainer from Hoenn caught Mew at Faraway Island, and wishes to find this trainer.

Red eventually continues his search for Mew at Kalos. Acting as a new trainer and traveling through the region.

1. Legendary Pokémon are ageless beings that can die: This one explains itself quite cleary, I think the Legendary Pokémon from each game are some ancient creatures from the past with some exceptions like Mewtwo and Genesect (Mewtwo because it is a genetically engineered duplicate of Mew and Genesect because it's a resurrected pre-historic Pokémon although ancient is now modified into a cyborg) and they can be killed like every Pokémon but I think Mewtwo, Groudon, Rayquaza, Kyogre, Xerneas, Reggigas, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Yveltal and Arceus cannot be killed easily as if they where Magikarp.

2.Ghost type Pokémon is what happens when humans and Pokémon die:Cofargrigus and its unevolved form fit the ''where once human'' type of Ghost Pokémon and while I have fighted against that Ghost Marowak from Lavender Town it's still an exception because people visited (in Lavender Town's case) to the Pokémon Tower in Lavender and the Lost Tower in Sinnoh to visit the spirits of their Pokémon and these buildings are filled with Ghost types hence these are the spirits of the dead, why can they breed after they are dead is a question I can't answer.

3.The Pokémon Trainer known as Red was in Mt. Silver waiting for someone ''worthy'' to fight: I tend to think this is the reason a child with a bunch of monsters was in a snowy mountain in the middle between two regions because after he destroyed half of Team Rocket, won the all the Gym Badges from Kanto and defeated the Indigo League's Elite Four, he wanted to find a ''worthy opponent'' to fight but since he's a child he had the ''best'' idea go to Mt. Silver and wait for a powerful Trainer in order to prove who is the best Pokémon Trainer in the world (it's a little kid what do you expect he might think).
That's about all I got.

1. Johto is the poorest region. Think about it, it's a very rural region filled with aging architecture. Even in the games, all of the cities, sans Goldenrod, appear to be small country towns with dirt roads and few people. (Only Olivine comes anywhere close to Goldenrod in size, and even then, it's still dwarfed by the average Kanto city like Viridian or Cerulean.) And, the region doesn't even have its own Pokémon League, instead sharing one with neighboring Kanto. Unlike the other regions, Johto can't afford to run its own League.

2. Blue made the mistake of evolving his Eevee into Flareon and eventually Boxed it for Arcanine. Flareon has its fans, but I don't think that anyone can deny that it's the weakest of the original Eeveelutions. It has the wrong stats for its typing and movepool, and said movepool is absolutely miniscule, even compared to other Fire types. Arcanine, on the other hand, has superior stats and access to a broader movepool that includes things like Extremespeed, Crunch, Outrage, and Close Combat. Why would anyone stick with Flareon when better options exist, especially someone like Blue who only wants to use the strongest and coolest Pokémon?

The same also goes for his Sandslash and Cloyster, both of which were replaced by the undoubtedly superior Rhydon and Gyarados in Gen 2. I'm sure that not long after he lost his Champion title to Red, Blue felt that his team had failed him and decided to replace the weakest links with stronger Pokémon. And, we know from the games, themselves, that Blue does have a habit of swapping out Pokémon from his team, so it's not too much of a stretch that he would give his team a total makeover in the three years between Gens 1 and 2.

3. Ethan is just as much a different person from Gold as Lyra is from Kris. Think about it, since when has any other returning player character been renamed in a remake? Sure, you could say that they wanted to phase out the color names of the earlier characters, but if that's the case, then why weren't Red, Blue, and Silver also renamed? And, "Ethan" was never a preset name for the male player character in the original GSC to begin with. If they wanted to rename Gold, why not call him "Hiro," "Taylor," or "Karl," instead?

And, while neither of these are game canon, it's also worth pointing out that the adaptation that treated Kris and Lyra as different people also treated Gold and Ethan as different people. Similarly, the adaptation that treated Gold and Ethan as the same person also did the same for Kris and Lyra. I can't think of any place outside of fanart (and Bulbapedia) where Gold and Ethan are the same person, but Kris and Lyra aren't.

4. Agatha died some time between Gens 1 and 2. Why else has she not been seen or even HEARD from since Gen 1? She was getting up in years, so it makes sense that her health was probably failing. Common headcanon, I know, but it makes sense.

5. Karen is the long-lost granddaughter of Agatha. Another common headcanon, I know, but it also makes sense. Their primary specialized types are similar (Ghost and Dark have nearly identical offensive matchups and play similar roles, thematically), and they also both like using Poison types to pad out their teams. Their stances on raising Pokémon are also exact opposites (ie. Agatha's belief in only using the strongest vs Karen's belief in using your favorites), which is exactly what you'd expect from a grandmother and granddaughter. And, you can also see similar features in their original designs--such as long, center-parted wavy hair and sharp, pointed nose and jawline--that truly make them look related (allowing for the age difference, of course). I wouldn't be surprised if Agatha looked something like Karen when she was younger.

A headcannon that grew on me recently:

Friend Safari's Pokémon are rejected offspring from massive breeding for competitive Pokémon. That's why all of them have over 2 maxed IV.
Now I want to start a Friend Safari liberation group.

F.O.P. (Free Our Pokemon)
I have a headcanon that is similar to this, only the Friend Safari is actually a breeding farm/canned hunt that was only available to the super-rich or those who have some clout in the Pokemon world, such as a Champion or the like. Most of the Pokemon there are breeding scraps from failed shiny hunts; the shiny Pokemon that have been released into the Safari are trophies that elite Trainers can hunt for and capture. The under-leveled but evolved Pokemon that can be found there--such as Golurk--have been forcefully evolved via artificial means. In other words: the place is a Pokemon's worst nightmare but most trainers have no idea about this.

(I had an idea about turning this into a fanfic, as told from the POV of a Pokemon that was being kept there.)

Missingno is actually a byproduct of Cinnabar lab experiments that somehow led to the island's volcanic eruption years later.

Master Balls are distributed in really small quantities because of legal reasons: Pokemon specialists and preservationists believe that using Master Balls as commonplace catching tools is:
a) Inhumane. Pokeballs should allow the wild Pokemon at least one chance to break free, doing otherwise is considered cruel.
b) A threat to overall Pokemon population. With catching Pokemon made this easy, then the rate at which wild Pokemon are captured will increase drastically, equating to a decrease in Pokemon living in their natural habitat.

Master Balls are relatively expensive, but even millionaires would not be legally allowed to purchase more than at least two due to these laws.

In some cases, Master Balls are given to trainers who are believed to be trustworthy, with the hope that they will be sensible enough to use it only in special cases.

I want to go alittle more in depth then last time

Arceus created dialga palkia and giratina at the same time alongside mew
Mew was the only inhabitant of the pokemon world and eventually started to become other pokemon and some of those pokemon became people soon mew would become a single pokemon on its own only one mew still exists today
Arceus seeing the humans thought they were incomplete so he created the lake trio to give them knowledge will power and emotion
Giratina tried to kill the humans but arceus sealed giratina away in the distortion world.
Then noticing how dry the world was arceus created kyogre but the world flooded so he created groudon to equal them out but this only caused more problems his power growing weary arecus created rayquaza to be the balance for the two.
The other legendary pokemon are all created from mew as stated above

Modern day
Blue's parents and Reds parents fought in the kanto war alongside surge the war was with jhoto and ended just months before red set out on his adventure Blue grew to resent Red because reds mom came back but reds father, along with blues father and mother were killed in action, this is why you can't travel to johto in red/blue/fr/lg
Oak was the champion until he heard of the death of his son and his wife he then resigned so he could watch over blue and take care of him, while also returning to his research on pokemon which he had forgotten about since becoming champion this left a vacant spot for the champion until blue showed up. Oak was involved in the creation of mewtwo and giovanni funded them this is why the elite four never messes with team rocket he funds not only the elite four but all the gymleaders to keep them quiet. The mega stones for mewtwo were artificiality created by team rocket scientists. Mewtwo was team rockets goal and plan to take over teh world. Lorieii retires to her home in the sevvii islands so koga replaces her, agatha dies a year later, her grand daughter karen takes her spot, red decides to quit being champion to finish his pokedex so lance ascents to champion postion as he was recommended by red and oak, will joins. After catching 150 pokemon Red is able to travel to johto to try and search for mew he goes to mount sliver to hunt and its at this time exactly that ethan/lyra challenge him.

Brenden and may's story takes place at the same time as reds. Wallace is the eighth gym leader at the time and steven is the champion, after the events of the game are over (also the rayquaza scene is the canon and so is the two teams both being evil) steven leaves to travel the world and wallace goes into training after the events of hg/ss pass steven returns to hoenn and retires and wallace takes his spot allowing jaun to come out of retirement. Stevens role in or/as is canon as are the megas and primals

Lucas and dawns story takes place at the same time as lyra/ethans

black and white takes place 10 years later hilbert and hilda beat N and then travel to Other regions in search of greater challenges

black 2's pokemon world tournament is canon reds official age is 21 now, giovanni has returned to gym leader status as a reformed man after being beaten by ethan (through celebi event) Blue is now champion again and red got a special invitation to show up will is booted from the elite four and lance takes his spot but is invited to the champions tournament because of his fame. Steven is invited as wallace wanted steven to come too.

x/y takes place at the same time as black 2 and white 2 except in this x/y there are no megas we still get pokemon but with no megas the story is very boring.

edit:

OR/AS has brought new possibilities All of what happens above is in The No megas universe r/b/g/y and g/s/c take place in the unstable universe (Going with Outrages logic on them where they broke aprt because of the time capsule and died see his post for more)

Origins is our kanto for the new mega evolution timeline universe so it goes

Origins=OR/AS-> Diamond and Pearl remakes (likely to have megas)=Heart gold with megas->black and white with megas->black 2 with megas=Our X/Y

ORAS spoilers. Also, I'm being a little silly here.
Zinnia, and the Draconids in general, are not actually from Pokemon's plane of existence, but rather from one of the universes created by Square Enix. That's why she has a more complex character design, a knowledge of multiple realities, an ability to make a simple situation very complicated, and a unique battle theme that sounds suspiciously like something out of Kingdom Hearts.

A bit of a meta example but I think the Musketeer trio/quartet were originally meant for gen 6 particularly for XY. Gen 5 has many similarities to gen 1 like the naming of the games after colors, number of new pokemon, the regional dex only contains the pokemon in that generation, many pokemon can be considered counterparts of each other (like Machop and Timburr, or Zubat and Woobat) and because the kami trio are all flying types it kinda makes them the Unova equivalent of the legendary birds. Gen 6 likewise is similar to gen 2 with adding a new type, having fewer new pokemon and new "evolutions" to existing pokemon who were thought to never change further and change what people in universe thought was true about evolution. The Musketeers are a lot like the legendary beasts since they are groups of quadrupedal legendaries with types based on naturally occurring elements. Gamefreak did say that gen 6 was already being made even before gen 5 was made and since Kalos is basically France it would make sense for them to be designed that way. When you consider that gen 6 has no legendary trio while gen 5 has two further convinces me of this.

I've been updating my headcanon articles regarding the 20th Century history of the Pokemon World. A few details:
- Darumaka, Throh, and Sawk were originally from Poke-Japan, but are now extinct, thus only encounterable in Unova.
- The Ancient War was actually the 100 Year War between Kalos and Britain, so no, it is not 3000 years ago.
- Nazi Germany razed Rouen to the ground using a Pokemon equivalent of the nuke, thus forming Kalos Route 13. etc

I've got a few more to share, some spoiler-related, others not so much.

Non-spoiler content (I think):
  • Brendan gave up Hoenn's champion title in favor of being a beta tester for battle-related items ad facilities. Things Brendan have beta-tested include the e-reader berries, Trainer Hill, and Scott's Battle Tents (to test out his plans for the Battle Frontier)
  • A list of Brendan's Pokémon include Blaziken, Manetric, Flygon, Latios, Rayquaza, Glaiie, all the gift Pokémon from RSE/ORAS, and all non-legendary Pokémon exclusive to Omega Ruby
  • Pokémon that May currently possesses include Swampert, Macargo, Breloom, Raichu, Swellow, Latias, Steelix, and all non-legendary Pokémon exclusive to Alpha Sapphire
  • At one point Brendan had Groudon, and May had Kyogre. However, after seeing how unhappy they were in captivity, they decided to let them go as long as they promise to not fight over the Earth anymore. Rayquaza on the other hand, although desiring to still freely guard the skies, prefers battling alongside Brendan. For this reason, Brendan keeps Rayquaza's Poké Ball on hand, and only uses it to either signal Rayquaza for battle, or to heal it if it gets injured.
  • The Grand Festival does exist within the the universe of the games, but they are only accessible to those who have six Pokémon that have mastered all five contest types. In addition, Contest battles are reserved for the Grand Festival.

Spoiler-related content:
  • Other Lorekeepers besides Zinnia include Wallace, Pyramid King Brandon (from the Battle Frontier), Palace Maven Spenser (from the Battle Frontier), Ghetsis (though the knowledge that came with the job caused him to become the delusional and insane foster parent we see in BW/B2W2), Marley, and Riley
  • In addition to Wallace being Lisia's uncle, Juan is her father. That's right, Wallace and Juan aren't lover, they're in-laws! :p
  • Salon Maiden Anabel and Psychic(XY)/Proprieter(ORAS) Inver are cousins. Also, like Inver, Anabel can also invert the type-chart. Whether she actually does or does not is a mere matter of principle on her part.
  • The boy who gives Brendan/May Diancie's Mega Stone in ORAS is the same guy who Stops his assistance from taking Diancie in XY from Calem/Serena. The reason you don't get the Diancie in XY (besides it not being programmed into the game) is because he already gave it to the Hoenn protagonist.
  • The appearances of the Mirage Islands and Mirage Spots are a combination of Hoopa's doing, Regigigas' and the Legendary golem's doing, and the power of the Soul Dew Latias and Latios gain power from. I'll post the details in a blog post.

-Evolution (as in gradual changes to adapt to changes in life, not the metamorphosis-style change in-game) does exist in the Pokemon World. The reason so many fossil Pokemon are extinct is due to a combination of events similar to real life (meteor -> ice age) and evolution. As such, Mew slowly evolved into the mammalian Pokemon we know and love. Eevee is a fairly close relative to Mew considering its unstable genetics. Fossil Pokemon evolved into the other Pokemon-types (little list here), with some Pokemon breeding and inheriting different features.

Kabuto/Anorith/Genesect: Insect/Arachnid Pokemon
Omanyte: Cephalopod Pokemon
Aerodactyl: Non-Avian Flying-Types (for example, it may of crossbred with Tyrunt to result in Salamence)
Lileep: Plant-Like Pokemon
Relicanth: Fish Pokemon
Shieldon/Cranidos/Tyrunt/Amaura/Tirtouga: Reptilian Pokemon

-Some Pokemon are of the same species, yet science was once not advanced enough to acknowledge this. For example, in Kanto, there's two different Nidoran and their evolutions. Whist they do share differences, this could just be sexual differences, such as human men having wider shoulders, or female peacock (peahen) lacking exquisite feathers. Volbeat/Illumise would be a good example from Hoenn. However, in regions such as Unova and Kalos, Pokemon with drastic gender differences (Unfezant, Jellicent and Meowstic) are registered as the same Pokemon. Kanto/Hoenn are the earliest known games in the timeline, whilst Unova/Kalos are the last (so far). This could be scientific advancement. Another example (non-gender wise) is Plusle/Minun. All atoms are neutral, unless something occurs and the atom's proton/electrons outnumber the others. Pokemon with the ability Plus could be Pokemon who harness a positive charge, whilst Pokemon with the ability Minus could harness negative charges to attack. This could mean that Plusle/Minun are just the same species, but somehow mutated by the charge they use.

I like to think that the three Pokemon that died in the Burned Tower and were later revived by Ho-Oh--Raikou, Entei, and Suicune--were originally a Jolteon, Flareon and Vaporeon respectively.
