What DON'T You Want To See In Gen IX?

It would raise the issue of how super effective something is. Because two weaknesses and one resistance is still technically super effective (you're still taking higher than neutral damage), where one weakness and one resistance becomes neutral.

Plus making designs for pokemon that have to incorporate three typings sounds like a pain in the ass.

i don't think a triple weakness would be all that different from a double weakness in practice, considering that a double weakness is essentially a guaranteed OHKO in almost all cases
They would be because the Paras line still gets x5 damage to Fire Types with Dry Skin.

As little Kanto pandering as possible.

Really don't want to see any handholding/babying characters whose sole purpose is to make the player feel smart while adding no real value to the plot.

Anything remotely close to Hugh, Bianca, Shauna, Tierno, or Trevor type of characters.

Another Dex where 90% of the Pokemon were slow as dirt. I have no idea what they were thinking with SWSH, but felt like you had to leap through hoops to find a Mon with over 100 base Spd that wasn't Legendary.

I don't want to see a return of certain Legendaries having raised catch rates. They're supposed to be hard to catch, keep them that way.

Don't want too many older Pokemon Pre-National Dex. I still think the BW approach is one we need to see more often. Force us into using the new Pokemon. There should be far more newer Pokemon than older Pokemon.

Exactly. That's one of the (many) things I really liked about BW.

Unfortunately I think tons of old Pokemon is the new normal. They've cut down on the number of new Pokemon because it's become increasingly difficult to come up with new ideas for Pokemon, so we're probably not going to get more than 100 Pokemon in a generation ever again. So then it becomes a matter of having a small 100ish roster of largely new Pokemon and a larger roster of older Pokemon. And the issue with the smaller rosters is that they tend to have type variety issues such as the issues DP had with not having enough Fire types. They seem to run into these kinds of issues with every regional dex of less than 300 (not sure if it's mathematically possible to have a dex smaller than that and still keep it balanced, but in practice all of the dexes less than 300 have had some kind of issue). And I think they'd rather avoid that situation, not just for NPC type specialists like Flint but also for players that might want to do monotype runs, than worry about having tons of new Pokemon.

Not sure why people want to force us to use new ones; if you don't want to use old ones just don't.
Exactly. Choosing which Pokemon you want on your team is a core aspect of the gameplay. Therefore, more options to choose from means more customization for team building and the types you want to use. This is especially true if you end up playing the game multiple times and want to use different teams each time.
Besides, I'm sure lots of people have new Pokemon on their team because that's one of the reasons people buy the game in the first place. In fact, new Pokemon tend to get most of the spotlight/attention in new trailers and showcases.

And given that Gamefreak never tried that again (either they saw the reaction BW got for their pokemon selection or realized themselves themselves that it wasn't a good idea to begin with), i doubt it will ever happen again.

I do wish there was better balance between old and new since it feels like new pokemon are harder to find than old pokemon in recent games. Maybe make it easier to find the new pokemon or have better distribution across the routes and caves.

as a collector, i like it when some new pokemon are difficult to find. makes it more satisfying when you do get them all. i think there should be a good balance between easily obtainable new mons for in-game use and hard to obtain ones to make it a challenge to complete the dex

I think it was confirmed traditional catching mechanics return, but however there are no more scene transitions when entering a wild or trainer battle much like LA. Cutting scene transitions is probably to make the open world more realistic.

Oh that’s good and yeah I don’t mind battling the Pokémon before catching it, but would be good to have the option of either doing the stealth approach with no battle or battle them to weaken them first with no cutscene/transitions.

Yeah not gonna lie, I thought I'd hate catching in Legends Arceus but by the end of it there was nothing more fun for me than to sneak into the tall grass and crack an alpha pokemon in the back of the head with a gigaton ball.

Like SURPRISE, MOTHER TRUCKER. IN SOVIET HISUI, TRAINER SURPRISES YOU FROM THE TALL GRASS!!

Mandatory EXP sharing makes it hard for me to make teams of 6. I end up sticking with teams of 3 because at least that way, my few Pokémon get more use so it feels less cheap.

It's not confirmed. The player sneaks up on Smoliv and seems bump into them, but the footage cuts off before it shows whether or not that initiates the battle or causes the Smoliv to attack in the overworld. However, under LA catching mechanics, there'd be no benefit to bumping into a Pokemon, if you wanted to catch or battle it you'd throw a Poke Ball from a distance. So it probably isn't simply LA catching mechanics. I do think there's a chance they could be hiding something completely new with that footage cut, but most likely the player is trying to contact Smoliv and initiate a battle before it flees and you can't just throw a Poke Ball in the overworld.

So do you think they regressed to the “separate battle from the overworld” thing? Or did they simply not have the overworld battles in the build they showed?

No the battles defenintly take place in the overworld still, unless the backgrounds they chose happen to be the exact locations the pokemon were encounter in.
