What new goals do you expect Ash/Satoshi's possible new companions to have?

Every companion Ash has traveled with has had a goal in mind that we see them try to accomplish throughout their journey. With many new features and content being implemented in X/Y, it is possible that the new companions' goals would be based on them.

With the introduction of the Fiary-type, it is possible that a companion's goal could be to become a Fairy-type Master, specializing in one type like Misty and Iris. It would also do good in showing off the type's powers. Now that riding on Pokemon is possible in some ways, it's possible that a companion could specialize in riding many different Pokemon, although with how limited it is, it could be shown off in a filler episode. Pokemon Amie's feature that involves taking care of your Pokemon is incredibly similar to Brock's breeder goal, so it might not even be given to a new companion as a goal. Sky Battles, while it is a new feature in the games, it isn't a new concept in the anime like with riding on Pokemon, and it would be hard to implement, as well as even possibly needing to make the companion focus on becoming a Flying-type master.

What new goals do you expect Ash/Satoshi's possible new companions to have? Discuss.

They're having Ash start his journey in Lumiose City of all places. That's quite random unless they want the (most likely Fairy-type) gym leader to be one of his traveling companions.

Let the idea of creating another Type Specialist pass far from the writers' minds, I think I wouldn't stand another underdeveloped girl. The writers have given sufficient proof that they do a better job with Coordinators than with girls trying to specialize in a certain type. I don't know if Contests will be back but I hope so because seeing Ash jumping from Gym to Gym with nothing in the middle of it is boring.

I really can't see anyone wanting to specialize in riding Pokémon, but a Sky Trainer seems possible. Besides, competitions for Flying-type Pokémon appear to be easier to create and we already have the PokéRinger. The only problem with this is that it seems to be the kind of thing Ash would want to do.

I would be very happy with Serena or Shauna joining Ash as a beginner Coordinator and Tierno taking Cilan's place. It was said that he likes to watch battles to try to create a dance team with his Pokémon so he could stay in the stands watching Ash's Gym battles and the girl's Contests and then we would see some dance routines just for fun. Just picture him dancing alongside a Lickilicky. XD~

That's not random at all. Ash will meet a girl who works as a journalist in Lumiose City in BW134. He'll be excited by what she'll say about the city and take a flight to there, simple as that.

Shauna - Travels with Ash to find out what goal she wants to partake in, since she finds out Ash is striving to be a Pokemon Master he suggests they travels together since she could learn a lot from him. Though she isn't completely reliant on him and can hold her own in battle and traveling in other words she's not completely helpless like Dawn but not completely independent like Iris. Controls a Chespin and Litleo and later decides to go for some type of gym battle alternative like Frontier Symbols or World Tournament competition medals. She's quite healthy and in good shape, often likes playing sports like basketball in her free time before she started her journey.

Tierno - Third wheel with an ambiguous/nonsensical goal, wants to simply improve dance skills and decides to travel with Ash because of it. Along the way he captures several Pokemon with different dancing renditions of battle styles. Like how Dawn's Togekiss's graceful dodging and attacking was often likened to dancing, Ash's Totodile would hope around playfully to evade moves or how Brock's Ludicolo was wide and jumpy 24/7 or even some dancing-like techniques like how Pikachu and Buizel's counter-shields looked as if they were break dancing to perform it. Several styles of dancing appear, ballroom, street, etc. Dancing such a ridiculously stupid goal on the surface it's hard to make sense of how it could be used and made relevant daily without it going the way of Cilan's Connoiisseur goal and not being brought up in a serious fashion much at all. Dance competitions just sound extremely boring to watch. Which is a shame because he has such an awesome design.

That is no reason to deviate from the games, especially as Alexa will most likely reference Kalos as a whole and she is also connected to Santalune City. Ash could visit Lumiose City at any time.

Assuming Shauna, Tierno and Trevor like I want:

Shauna - possibly having no Pokémon like Max. She sets out to see the Pokémon world to discover what kinds of things she could aim to achieve once she decides to become a trainer. Kinda risky because there's little to write about, but worst care scenario she'd just be as bad as anyone who isn't Kanto Misty, May or Dawn.

Tierno - similarly to contests, Tierno aims to create the ultimate dance crew and win dancing competitions. This would be interesting because we haven't had a male co-star yet.

Trevor - his goal is to collect data on every Pokémon in the Kalos region. A great thing about this is he'd want to dex everything, which would make a nice change after Ash being the only dex holder in Unova.

If we knew what side-quests exist in the XY games, we might predict what other characters' goals might be. The contests May and Dawn entered were based on those from the Hoenn and Sinnoh games. Then again, BW intro'd Pokémon Musicals, but they hardly got any screen time.

A Sky Battle specialist could be an interesting goal, since it can give some variability to the team. All flying Pokémon could be potential captures, without having to necessarily be Flying-types.

Then we could throw in a few motorcycles...seriously, that would be cool.

That was because Musicals were terrible and there wasn't much it them to give the more focus.

I really don't want another insert type here Master goal. That's way too vague and has left the female characters with those goals poorly developed in my opinion. Plus, it would be kind of boring to see another female character wanting to be a master of a certain type right after Iris. I'd much rather see Serena as a starting Coordinator or starting out on whatever sidequest the games have that the anime could adapt into a battle active goal for them to compete in. It would help to add something else important besides Ash's battles and it would create some diversity. If Tierno joins the group, I could see him watching Ash and Serena's battles and use them for his dance team.

A goal on riding Pokemon doesn't seem too likely either and while I could see a trainer wanting to be the best Sky Battle trainer, it does seem like something that Ash would want to compete into as well, so I don't think that would work.

I hope they have a goal some what like contests, not just like that but they battle against there own rivals and have fights in between Ash's gyms.
I've learned a lot from the BW series, seems they don't know what to do outside of gym battles and just put fillers after fillers random 3 part villains of that series fillers.
Every two or three fillers are fine when they don't have any thing to do some times but all the time?? Bah!

I don't really have any ideas for a new quest, but they do need to give one of the other main characters something to do. I feel like AG and DP spoiled me with adding a second quest because BW was really boring with Iris and Cilan not really doing anything. Both Iris and Cilan lacked development goal-wise, so that is one of the things that needs to be rectified next saga.

There aren't many goals left that wouldn't feel repetitive, at least none that I can come up. I certainly hope they won't bring back Contests, I didn't like them and it would feel weird for them to return here (as they would skip a generation, and I think the creators of XY are probably going to come up with another sidegame). I've always had this idea in the back of my head of Ash traveling with someone who also wishes to enter the league, but then we would see every Gym being challenged twice, so that's not gonna happen.

Many things are crossing my mind, but one is even more lame than the other, so I'm pretty curious what they're gonna come up with.

Maybe we could sometimes see the other rival going on a different path, going up against different gyms. This would, of course, be every few episodes, because the main series would follow Ash, and we would skip some gyms. But it would be nice to see another person's adventure. Maybe the rival could meet up with Ash in a few episodes.

I don't want them to have a goal on being the best Coordinator out there or winning the final round of a Festival or Thingy-Cup.

I'd like something more plot-orientated, like searching for a legendary pokemon for reasons. Or, maybe seeking revenge, like how Silver wanted to bring down Team Rocket and confront Giovanni in HGSS.

If side quest exist, the girl will prob get that or she'll just be left to the side to be the best (insert pokemon type) trainer.

And the male older charater would prob get a vauge goal to be the best Pokemon (insert any job or word).

So far basing on what was revealed perhaps one of new companions like Tierno, or in case Cilan stays could take chance at dancing competitions to train pokemon in different way and see how useful that may be in battles.

However i feel such concept doesn't really have enough substance to create viable quest out of it with its liability to become repetitive making whole thing become boring to follow.

Revelation of Fairy type which is effective against dragons would give material to make fun arc through which Iris could develop but since i doubt she will stay we could receive another girl(maybe Shauna?) which thrives to achieve mastery of said type.
Which i wouldn't welcome becoming too repetitive to get new females which have "insert type master in here" goal to follow.

Even more so when we have already girls with such careers which have unfinished things and potential to follow upon. In that case might as well rather bring Misty back. Since pokemon she uses sets predispositions to make plausible way to go forward and create tangible story arc from it . More than its case with other types, as water is most widespread and common out there, having enough variety to choose from to create events spread over region through which we could see growth. And admittedly i wouldn't mind that missing her outspoken and feisty attitude being intriguing to see follow up.

Speaking of which i remember in manga there used to be storyline involving her going on journey to find and earn thrust of legendary pokemon choosing her as partner. Something which could serve as one of ideas to create storyline and way to develop next girl character(whoever that will be).

In vase we get some on going quest similar to gyms for 6th generation i wouldn't mind next female( whether its Shauna, Viola, Serena which is unlikely) following goal similar to what contests were. Since i liked idea. Especially during AG saga introducing new, unseen way of utilizing pokemon in battles and have someone grow forward.
So with that in mind i wouldn't be oppose to next female having some sort of on going quest as well.

Although im not against female sidekicks either. As long they receive quality and reasonable amount of growth learning and gaining something feeling like something was accomplished bringing them closer toward their dream, destination. Since if done right anime exclusive goals can work and be more unpredictable ,exciting to follow due to not following frames dictated by games.

I don't care what goals his new companions get as long as it's not another mono type trainer or someone who doesn't carry or battle with pokemon. If so, then keep them away from the group.

Hopefully the girl wants to be Fairy type master(reason for giving eveelutions and Sylveon even more promoting without Virgil). When she beats Iris(which is obligatory)there will at least be a good reason for it. I do not think that the writers can resist from having some Fairy types in the main cast. Then for the guy I do not know. I hope Cilan stays but if there is a new one his goal will most likely be something like Pokemon Breeder or Cononseiuor(did I get the spelling right?).

I personally hope not. If I hear any more news about Eeveelutions before XY comes out I'm going to be sick.

I wouldn't mind another type master goal, but only, and I mean only, if they cover it better than Misty and Iris' travel combined. The repetitiveness would still bother me, but as long as the execution is good I'm not sure I would really care. As for riding Pokemon, I can't really see a trainer making a goal out of it, but I can imagine tournaments where you have to ride Pokemon. They've already done this in a couple episodes, so I see no problem with them making a few other episodes out of it.

As for sky battles, I think the anime pretty much covered that ever since two flying type Pokemon fought against each other. I could see PokeRinger coming back, but that's about it for anything in the sky.
