What previous main characters you miss and would like to see return to pokemon?

Permanent Return - Misty and Brock

As I've said before, the characters are only as boring as the writers make them. The dynamic between these three in the first season was great (OI was great for Ash and Misty too) and nostalgia aside, there was something about that first few seasons that makes me want to watch it over and over again.

Misty had her goals as a Water Pokemon Master so the writers can easily find stuff she can pursue along side Ash. When you look at May and Dawn's journey, they had their contests so it was more like they shared the spotlight with Ash rather than the show being just about him.

Many people play with the idea of replacing Ash but what would be even better is, have the story center around 3 protagonists instead of just one. Three journeys makes for deeper stories and more creativity which the current writers lack.

Brock could be a traveling Pokemon doctor and have his own story revolving around helping sick Pokemon.

I know what you mean. One of reasons why Original series were so entertaining and fluid for me was great character chemistry Ash, Misty and Brock as cast achieved. Delivering lot of humor, embarassing moments, smart sarcastic jabs, tension and commradeship. With Johto depicting imo very well how much those three became attached to each other learning to tolerate each other flaws, be supportive and compassionate and having their moments of dusagreements, teasing, talks about what they want to achieve in life etc.,

With departure beautifully catching amount of emotion, love and close bond they shared.

Seeing Misty and Brock joining Ash on one more adventure would be something i would appreciate alot.
Maybe if Red, Blue games(first generation)receives remakes in 3D firmat we could see writers doing something with original trio again.

With there existing ways that lives of them overlap with Ash's again.

If anything Brock being traveling doctor as Johto implied gives him liberty to go anywhere to study about new pokemon species, meet other doctors and utilize what he learned on field advancing forward while traveling for awhile in Ash company again.

As for Misty its not like she has to be at gym for rest of her life. Because her career involve becoming water pokemon master and she dreamed of becoming strong like E4 members(if Lorelei was something to go by).

Many gym leaders travel to advance their skills and pursue career(Cilan, Clemont, Candice ec), and knowing her passion for traveling and ambitions i could see her going on journey in Ash/Brock company to develop more innovative battle strategies. Enter strong tournaments and elemental based competitoons coming closer toward water master title.
Kalos alone with E4 Siebold and mega evolution already gives opportunities to do more with her story.

Catch new pokemon and work toward becoming strong water expert specialist apprentice teaching her how to be bette specialist becoming E4 maybe one day herself (seem logical step up since they are best mono traners in world).
Possibilities are there.

It would be endearing to Ash, Brock, Misty gathered together for old time sake. As more experienced, mature and familiar with each other witnessing in further emotional growth of their friendship, how much separation affected them as persons and how they feel of being together like in good old days joking, laughing, still being annoyed by their dumb habits coming up with smartass remarks and arguing , but expressing gratitide and happiness of their lifepaths allowing to meet and spend time together after all that time again. Interactions could be downright phenomenal.

Well I'd love to see Misty back, but I know its unlikely, I think Iris returning is likely.
Ash is going to have a Goodra soon, and I can see it squaring off against Iris' Dragonite.
Or maybe when Zygarde comes in the anime, as a Dragon expert I'm sure she could be wedged into that story somewhere

In all honesty, most of the characters from the main cast don't really evoke any strong desire to have them return from me, probably because either a. they've already had what I felt was an adequate share of cameos, or b. they are most likely to have a cameo of some description. It's actually mainly the characters that I realise will never have this chance that I wish would cameo, even as a way of acknowledging their contribution to the plot at the time. However, there are some main characters that I would have an interest in seeing once more.

One that surprises me is well, Tracey Sketchit. However, if I'm being crude, my choice doesn't fulfil both criteria. I don't necessarily "miss" Tracey in any strong way, I just feel that out of the main characters, he has had the most unused potential and the least development, owning to his very short time on the show, only to be replaced by Brock. I also feel, possibly due to the circumstances of his time on the show, he hadn't enough of a role in the show that would make me associate him as a main cast character. He's also a very convenient character to cameo- given that he now assists Professor Oak. Also, a desire for his appearance in my mind, is a desire to show a recognition that he exists, and I feel that says volumes, as most other characters would be still acknowledged for their contribution to the show, whereas with Tracey, I feel his contributions were made more ambiguous as a result of the lack of episodes he had on the show.
I have so many questions about Tracey that I don't really share to the same extent with the others, particularly involving his backstory and what his life was before his debut on the show. That makes him an enigma to me, and therefore, I have always wished to know even a fraction more about him.

However, for what I would like, I see no satisfactory option, because I don't "miss" him enough to want him to return on the show permanently and I don't feel a cameo would just compensate for how he was written as a character. I'm also not sure if I'd have a whole arc with Tracey, either. Still, a cameo is the more preferable option, because it does make me happy when the writers acknowledge he exists at least.

I also would like Dento to return, but not in the way that Brock had his cameo- I would prefer if Dento meets the full Kalos cast in said region. Him almost acting as a faux coach to Serena's performances, or getting excited over science with Clemont- I feel he'd interact quite well with the Kalos cast.

No matter what choice I choose, the person returning next for a small arc is going to be Iris. It goes like this all the time, so she's going to be next, anyway. Anyway, the only character I want to see return from this list is Misty. I miss her so much. The director said she won't return as a main character and will only return as a guest. That didn't happen in Sinnoh or Unova, so I doubt it'll happen in Kalos, either. I just want to see her again as she is my favorite female travel companion, but I can only dream. ^^; The only person that's going to return next is Iris. On another note, I want to see Gary again, too. It's been since...what...Sinnoh, since we've seen him? I'd like him to make at least one cameo. :x

Id like to see max comeback for a few episodes, so he can just fight ash with his team of Pokemon he acquired, interesting to see a mega Gallade if that ralts was male, and see how good max is since his father is a gym leader. Also I would like to see Brock cause he's my favorite character

I want Brock to come back. Maybe he will come for study in Kalos Pokémon Doctor Institute and meet Ash. Brock is overdue for return. Everyone returned once, but Brock did not

Not really. She was an important character, but that doesn't translate into a main character. Main characters are usually those that are included in at least the majority of episodes and are the main focus of the series. Cynthia played an important role in DP and was included in BW too, but she would still be more of a supporting character rather than a main one.

My reason could be kind of lame and really dumb, chose Iris, but I don't actually miss Iris that much, just miss Emolga so much (wish she could return alongside Iris). I wouldn't mind seeing everyone else back for an episode or two.

I'd like to see Dawn return. Also I wonder about the progress Max made. Anything else not too much vote for though Tracy or May could offer something new. Thinking about it, Dawn and May could be a bit of an adviser or mentor to Serena as well.

I want to see them all back. Misty being a world-renowned gym leader, Brock having graduated from PokéDoctor school (at 15?!), May and Dawn being Contest Masters (Mistresses? IDEK), Max having been reunited with his Ralts and challenging Ash to that battle, Iris getting her arrogant butt beat by some fairies, and hopefully Cilan being burnt alive by some Pyroar.

But yeah, I'd love to have at the very least a movie where Ash's current group meets all the previous ones (and have Misty cry at seeing Dawn's Togekiss and it being revealed that Princess Salvia's Togekiss was originally Misty's Togetic or something). Considering the 10th anniversary (Mastermind of New Dub Actors Mirage Pokémon) brought back Tracey and Misty, it could be speculated that the 20th anniversary special could do the same, maybe even the 2016 movie.

Its been long while before anyone posted in here.

However in light of all kind of great surprises being delivered by other popular anime from our childhood as they approach milestone of celebrating years of their existence.

Im sure most know what im talking about with likes of "Digimon Tri Adventure!", "Dragon Ball Super!", "Yugioh movie featuring original stars like Yugi/Kaiba!" etc, etc.

Going back to their roots paying attention to original themes and characters which were meriturous for their success in first place. Bringing back its older characters from people childhood updated, refereshed and stronger than ever before going on brand new adventure.

Gives ounce of hope of perhaps pokemon company realizing potential, marketing value and positive hype return of older main characters can bring serving as springboard toward bigger popularity attracting back millions of older fans back such move can achieve(as other long running franchise do).

So i decided to revive this thread to give those who didn't had chance to express their own wishes and desire of who of older main characters they miss; to vote and post their thoughts.

But to those who perhaps feel need to add more to this thread and elaborate on their choices to leave their 2 cents over here as well.


p.s. As for me?

I know i perhaps accent abit too much on need of Misty return as far as my preferences go . But its mainly because i think it would be nice if new generations of kids could get to know first pokemon girl.

To get update and follow up on uncleared future in taking care of gym because of incompetent sisters not being revealed in what direction her career as water trainer will go. Her clearly unfinished story in becoming water pokemon master and reach E4 level, desire to develop better understanding for pokemon extracting their full strength(which mega evolution could grant). How much she changed after all this years etc.

And have older fans surprised ,excited to see this long forgotten character in some relevant role again enjoying her diverse and passionate persona, having enough potential imo to be main character again through sequel of her story.

Because i believe Misty was vital and important part of pokemon series which influenced alongside Ash/Brock and TR pokemon popularity and success not deserving to remain forgotten in past like this.

But i would want that pretty much every other replaced main character receives justice and continuation of its story as well.
Be it Dawn, Cilan, May, Max etc, etc.


Because i feel they deserve some sort of recognition, way to see them in action and move on bigger, better things traveling with Ash and group for one part of journe perhaps when going in same direction. Not necessarily returning and staying forever, more like follow up joining cast for awhile(like season or two rotating main cast in post lerague filler saga or something).

This would shake things up in positive way imo.

With the 20th anniversary coming up, I would love if they did a spin off season that could show what happened to Ash's released Pokemon like Pidgeot and his old companions. We have so many episodes of Dedenne getting lost and them having to find him, so I speical series like this would be refreshing imo.

We would all get to see our old favorites companions and Pokemon once again which would make us all happy and be a great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary.
