What series would you recommend for people who saw the original series as a kid, but nothing afterwards?

I have a lot of friends who grew up watching the first two-ish seasons of the Pokemon anime, and haven't seen anything else from it. Many of them buy into the idea that the first season or two are the unabashed high point of the show.

What series (AG, DP, BW, XY, etc.) would you recommend showing them to get them back into the show, or at least a part of it that you think is really good and/or accessible to semi-newbies?

Definitely AG and DP because of Ash's development as a trainer and then the rivals, maybe XY as well but that's as far as I'd go. BW, SM and JN felt too different compared to the other series where you could just sweep them under the rug and only acknowledge OS-DP/XY. But if they have too much of a short attention span I'd recommend just seeing the main parts.

AG
Hoenn Grand Festival
Hoenn League
Kanto Grand Festival
Battle Frontier

DP
Hearthome City Tag Battle Tournament
Wallace Cup
Sinnoh Grand Festival
Sinnoh League

XY
Mega Evolution Specials
Kalos League

Also for DP, it's probably also worth including the 8-part arc that begins with Classroom Training and ends with Uncrushing Defeat (other than maybe the Looker episode, if they're skipping the Team Galactic arc).

Yh either that or the pokemon summer academy arc which also featured Conway.

It depends on what they liked about it, through in general all series are good entry points and you don't need to know much about what had happened until that point to understand it.

-AG for comedy (and BW...under discretion)
-DP for character development
-XY for animation
-SM for summer vibes and side cast
-JN for
-To be a Pokemon Master for OS vibes and Ash's best attributes

However if they really left the series for such a long time maybe they should rewatch OS to see if they really like it now too, and if they do continue from there.
