What sold you to your favourite type?

There are Pokemon fans who have a favourite type, so surely there are reasons they favour that type. Perhaps it's a specific Pokemon that sold you in a type, it might be the overall strength of that type, or maybe they have a certain design philosophy that interests you. Basically, there are a million reasons one could feasibly become a fan with a type.

Take me, for example. My favourite is the Ghost-type, and what sold me into favouring this type is that early on, there were only four of them, so the rarity of said type is what makes it special. Not only that, Gengar's family (taking up three of four spots in the Ghost-type family) is a very good representative of the Ghost-types, because they are cool. Eventually, another thing that sold me into Ghost being a favourite type was how a Ghost-type with no weaknesses was introduced, called Sableye. I thought it was cool (even though its stats were low) because I don't have to worry about super-effective hits. Of course, it helps that Ghost-types got some improvements in Generation 6. A side benefit with Ghost-types is how varied their designs are, even with their very few members.

So again, what sold you to your favourite type?

Thanks for reading.

Dragon is my favorite type since quite a few of them are really badass or majestic, and that some of them look like dinosaurs (Tyrantrum, Haxorus, Garchomp, etc).

As you know, Bulbasaur's existence has pretty much sold me as a Grass type specialist. It also helps that Grass is the underdog Starter type, and I tend to gravitate towards the underdogs.

Prior to gen II my favorite type was Ice if I recall. As a kid I just really liked Articuno and Dewgong's designs. That's not to say I didn't like Lapras, Jynx, and Cloyster...I did. But what really sold me on ice type were those two mostly because I liked quetzals and seals back then.

Post gen II, I really want to say what sold me on Dark was Umbreon, Murkrow, Sneasel, Houdour, and Houndoom's designs. I just really liked all the black, grey, and muted teal and pink (in Sneasel's case) color schemes. Back before them, the proto-Tyranitar looked interesting, but it didn't really sell me until I saw Larvitar and fell in love with it before it's evolution.

My favorite types are fire, fighting and dragon.

What has sold me on these types is the appearance of the mons (Some of my favorites include Charizard, Infernape, Lucario, Dragonite, Arcanine, Blaziken, Hitmonchan, Gallade... and so many more) as well as the playstyle. I like fast mons that can attack with power and have good movepools. Some of the fighters and many of the dragons seem to have some of the best movepools in the game. And most fire / fighting / dragon mons are quite fast and usually have one (if not both) attack stats high enough to sweep.

My favorite type is Poison and Water type.

Poison because of Muk. I really like the design of Muk and Arbok. Also the psychological effect of poison status to the opponent especially the Toxic.

Water type because of Feraligatr and for me, they are the most flexible type. All kinds of moves are already part of water type. If you want an increased priority water type moves, there's an Aqua Jet. If you want a very powerful move, use Water Spout. If you want a water type move that deals burn, they also have that.

My favorite types are Ice & Fairy.

The Ice type became my favorite because, as a young player of Pokémon Crystal having difficulty with Clair, Pokémon learning Ice-type attacks really helped me with that battle. Oddly enough, I don't think I especially love any Ice-type Pokémon, but some of my favorite attacks, like Ice Punch and Ice Beam, are Ice-type attacks.

The Fairy type became my favorite for a similar reason, with its super-effectiveness against Dragon types. I also like the potential this type has of bucking stereotypes on what it means to be a fairy. Xerneas is a wonderful example of that, and is one of the reasons why I like the type so much. I also really liked Sylveon's appearance the moment I saw it, and the fact it's a Fairy type only made me love the type even more.

My favourite type is Grass, because most of them look beautiful and elegant but at the same time can be pretty deadly. I mean they use moves like Giga Drain, which sucks the life out of an opponent so they can restore their own HP. You just don’t expect that from a cute thing like Whimsicott, that’s why I love them.

I’m also a really big fan of the Fighting type, because I’ve always been a fan of martial arts (though I don’t practice any myself, yet) and I love a lot of Fighting type Pokémon. Furthermore, the fighting type is super effective against five different types, so it’s always a great addition to the team.

For me, because I love the snow, cold, and ice, me loving the Ice-type is a no-brainer. I thrive in the cold, my health improves significantly, and I gain a lot more energy when it snows. While some of the early Ice-types were a bit lackluster in terms of design and style, they really improved with ones like Glalie, Froslass, Weavile, and Glaceon. And Ice moves are generally powerful and/or useful, such as Ice Punch and Ice Beam. So, yeah, Ice is a cool type. *chuckles*

Second place goes to Fire, which is ironic as I'm weak to heat and can get heat sickness very easily. However, Fire is so powerful, yet fragile, reflecting its true nature. Plus, ever since Gen II, I've always picked a Fire Starter (though Turtwig in Diamond was the exception), as they tend to be the best of their type in the region. Plus the Fire-type is the second most resistant type, with six resistances (behind Steel), even though it generally struggles defensively, but so does Ice.

Third place goes to Dragon, as I have, I guess you could say, a dragon fetish. I love dragons in general, as evident by my collection of dragon figures, wall scrolls (well, Breath of Fire wall scrolls, but the main character is a Dragon clansman, so it counts), and other such stuff. While it took some time before Pokemon could muster up some potent and super-awesome Dragons, like Garchomp and Flygon, it's still a powerful type, even after Fairy gave it a power cut.

My favourite type used to be Dragon because I love dragons and I liked the type chart. Then Fairy happened.

The Fire type is now my favourite type because it is strong, has most of my favourite Pokemon, Team Flare, is beautiful and fabulous. And Fairies can't touch it >:D! (Don't get me wrong, I do like the Fairy type, it's my 3rd favourite)

Greninja sold me on the Dark type, though Darkrai was already making a good case for the type. I like powers that deal with the darkness and I like the Dark Is Not Evil approach they went with for Darkrai. Most of the Dark type Pokémon look really cool too like the two mentioned before, Bisharp, Houndoom, Pangoro... It has everything it needs to make me love it really.

Fighting takes the top spot for me at number 1. They hit lots of types for super effective which helps a lot for coverage, have some interesting designs and have powerful mostly drawback free moves. I like to imagine them being strong honorable warriors who fight with skill and style to win battles.

Second place for me is Steel for its strong defensive qualities which are handy for any team and as a secondary type for almost everything. They're pretty strong on average and are covered in shiny cool looking armor which I will admit I have a weakness for. Their new found advantage against fairies make them more valuable than ever now.

Third place goes to Grass since they have lots of hidden strength and fight in unconventional ways to make up for their large amount of weaknesses. It's pretty representative of nature like how Grass types can be delicate and beautiful like a flower, mighty and unmovable like an oak tree or deceptively dangerous like a poisonous plant. My first starter was Bulbasaur and I like the color green so that might also have something to do with it.

Actually, I as child, I always tended to favor superheroes that had water powers so I naturally clung to water-types. I actually remember a time when I was a child where I had a Pokemon folder with a bunch of water-types on it while my sister got the fire type version (Guess what her favorite type is:p). It helped that so many water-types look so badass and awesome. I normally cling to the water-type starter and if I don't, there will still probably be a water-type in my team. Not just because I love them, but because Surf is such a strong and essential move to have. So basically everything about water-types sells sold them to me.

I like the Steel type. I like how solid it is while maintaining decent firepower. I also like the designs of many Steel type Pokémon.
And there's Forretress
Forretress is life <3

HAIL TO THE BAGWORM!!!

Grass is my favorite because I love the color green, plus the grass starters usually offer more of a challenge than picking the fire starter every single generation.

Dark type was my favorite com Gen 2, Sneasel was just so cool and the other Dark typed were always BA.
But lately I've found myself in love with Fairy types! This is a result of me being more open and loving with everyone lol.

I just went for the grass starter a lot and Treecko was my first starter, so I ended up being biased to that type.

Roserade was also awesome so woo.

The first Pokemon I caught was an electric type and it always has some cool Pokemon in the group

Check my blog for more details, but my favourite is and always has been Ghost-type (like OP's).

I too like the rarity, and the mystery behind the type's lore. Also it fits that my least-liked type is Normal.

I fell in love with Ghost because of Golett and Golurk. Prior to their existence, I simply hadn't worked with any Ghost types and was surprised at how awesome they were. It took a pair of automatons to change my mind on them and dethrone my then favorite type (Psychic).
