This is not a kid’s anime in dubbed form, and this video here is probably the most “PG-13” one of anything that covers it. Skip to ~3:01 if you want to skip past (at least some of) the worst of it.

I’ve had one hell of a time learning about this series today, including both American and Japanese perspectives of original and dub. This video is a good summary of both versions’ history and legacy while helpfully clearing up several misconceptions about both. Whatever your opinion on either is, we’ll likely never see a situation quite like this again in the anime world for quite a long time yet.
