    The Favorite Pokémon Thread
    (Generations 3 and 4)

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Welcome to a newly revamped "Favorite Pokémon" thread, everyone!

Just like with its previous edition, in this thread you can vote for your favorite Pokémon and discuss anything about it. Do you like its design? Or its typing? Was it your Most Valuable Player in your team? Or your most prized card? Really, feel free to go wild with your appreciation toward your favorite!

In this thread, you can choose any Pokémon from the third and fourth generation, so any Pokémon ranging from Treecko to Arceus in dex order is fair game.

Does your favorite not belong to one of those generations? Fear not. We've got you covered.

    So, who is your favorite?

Plusle & Minun - This is for purely sappy reasons. But I hunted down a shiny Plusle for someone using DexNav in AS, and traded it to them. I didn't expect them to, but in return I got a shiny Minun they hunted down for me. They're not the kind of person who normally shiny hunts either. So it meant a lot to me.

Altaria - This is a trend for me. But I breed a lot in games for Bulbatrade, and trading in general. I bred myself a moon ball Swablu, trained her up. Now she's at level 72 or so. So like my Arcanine (Cinnamon), I use my Altaria I named Sonnet for several things in game. Like E4 runs, EV training, and even the battle tree. She's one of my go-to mons.

I do like gen 4 mons like Leafeon, Porygon-Z, and Lopunny. But not strongly enough to consider them a favorite atm.

I love Absol and the Mega form. Supernova is by my side in the games he appears in.

Gosh, I have SO many favorites from Gen3 and Gen4 XD The Metagross family, the Aggron family, the Ralts family, the Lopunny family, Froslass, the Cranidos family, the Treecko family, the Luxray family, the Staraptor family, Castform.... many of them are my regular picks for my competitive team, with my ace being either Mega Metagross or Mega Lopunny the most :D

Gen III? Off the bat, I'd say Breloom, but there are plenty of contenders like Exploud, Aggron, Manectric, and Metagross.

Gen IV? Where do I even begin? Torterra, Staraptor, Spiritomb, Drapion, Rhyperior, Electivire, Magmortar, Togekiss, Yanmega, Mamoswine, Porygon-Z, Rotom... Yes, this is my favourite generation.

Blaziken!!! Torchic was my first ever starter, so I'm a bit biased with this one.
Seriously one of the coolest Pokemon ever, and I know it will always be one of my favourites.
Other favourites: Breloom, Aggron, Wailord, Kyogre, Sharpedo, Gardevoir, Absol, Manectric, Metagross, and Mightyena.

    Gen 4
    [IMG] [IMG]
Empoleon! Oh, and Lopunny as well! I chose Piplup as my starter in Diamond, and ever since then I've loved it's whole line, but Empoleon in particular will always be my fave. And as for Lopunny, well, it's just awesome. Especially it's Mega form
Other favourites: Giratina, Shaymin, Glaceon, Toxicroak, Froslass, Infernape, Skuntank, and Lucario.

I'm going to split these by Gens because Gen 4 was my "off" generation.

    Gen 3:

Treecko family: I usually end up preferring whichever starter Pokemon has the highest Speed, and Gen 3 was no exception -- I just liked Treecko's design the best, and its evolutions had equally solid designs. Sceptile's Mega form leaves a few minor bits to be desired, but I like it as well.

Manectric family: Electric is one of my favorite types, and base Manectric doesn't disappoint. Too bad its Mega design is a huge misstep (it removed literally everything I love about Manectric's base design).

Absol: I may have been slightly spoiled to this Pokemon's existence and stat spread (e.g. in Emerald, I intentionally gave it Shadow Ball over Crunch) but I love its design, its lore, and it was one of the first Mega evolutions revealed, and to me still the best Mega design, no competition.

Shedinja: I was a little spoiled in advance on how to get this. It's such a goofy Pokemon to use in battle -- it's either unusable or untouchable, making it a wildcard. I took it with me through the Emerald Elite 4, and had it survived to face Wallace it would have done some serious damage. I was virtually out of healing items by then, which made the victory all the more epic.

    Gen 4:

Shinx family: Again, I'm a fan of Electric types in general and Shinx's family is solid. A little slow, perhaps, but great attack power, Intimidate is always a useful ability (especially in later Gens with Volt Switch), the designs are adorable and Shinx's vocal cry seals the deal.

Riolu family: I hate the Fighting type. In every game and generation until this point, I simply hated the designs of these Pokemon, no exceptions, and I would only put one on my team as a last resort -- literally the type-coverage analogue to an "HM slave". They were on the team solely because they were needed, not wanted. Then this family comes along and changes that. A speedy and versatile mixed attacker with none of Fighting type's usual weak points (all masked by the Steel typing), and like Shinx, Riolu's design (and vocal cry) is just adorable. (Its Mega form does leave something to be desired, but it's not bad.) In White 1, the moment I saw one in an NPC party I immediately made a beeline to wherever the Pokedex said they lived and nothing stopped me from getting a matched pair.

Aside: to this day I still only use newer (Gen 4 onwards) Fighting type Pokemon.

Blaziken and Giratina are up there. Aggron's pretty cool, too.

Generation III: Absol. Love its design, movepool and backstory. Other favourites are: Swampert, Aggron, Breloom, Flygon, Altaria, Zangoose, Shedinja, Salamence, Armaldo, Milotic, Manectric, Latios, Latias, Kyogre, and Groudon.
Generation IV: Staraptor. It looks cool, hits like a truck and gets powerful moves in Brave Bird, Double-Edge and Close Combat.
I also like Gallade, Floatzel, Rotom, Togekiss, Lucario, Leafeon, Mismagius, Magnezone, Weavile, Azelf, Cresselia, Palkia, and Giratina.

Generation III: The Torchic line. It was the first Fire-type starter I liked the most out of the trio, and remains that way to this day. I'm also rather fond of Sableye, Cacnea and Cacturne, Carvanha and Sharpedo, Corphish and Crawdaunt and Anorith and Armaldo.
Generation IV: Torterra, largely because a Torterra was the main powerhouse of my team in Diamond. I'm still incredibly fond of him. I also like Gallade, Yanmega, Vespiquen, Croagunk and Toxicroak, Weavile, Drifloon and Drifblim and Gliscor.

    Gen III
Marshtomp is my all time favorite. Mudkip, Swampert and Mega Swampert (specially Mudkip) complement it very well.
Jirachi, Rayquaza and Deoxys are among my favorite legendaries and mythicals, ther design is godly.
Wailmer and Lotad are the right kind of dumb/oblivious.
    Castform and Anorith are cute.
Regice is cool, just like Seviper and Nuzleaf.

    Gen IV

    Munchlax is awesome.
    Arceus has an awesome design.
    The Turtwig line is perfection.
Combee, Chingling, Chimchar and Hippopotas are cute.

    Gen IV:

gen III is lovely, there are plenty of mons from that gen that I appreciate. However, I cannot say the same for gen IV. Very lame. In fact, what you see above is nearly the complete list.

To keep within the twenty image limit, this post will just cover my faves from Gen III:

    [IMG] [IMG]
I absolutely adore these two Ice-types. I enjoyed seeing Ketchum’s in the anime because they’re both so cool in their own way.

My appreciation for this bug-eyed beauty was strengthened from learning about its creature of origin, the long extinct Anomalocaris, in an educational program involving cool CGI.

    [IMG] [IMG]
Cute fossils with a lovely unique type combo.

It’s hard not to love this gargantuan teal blimp. Just look at it.

One of my very favorite Legendary Pokémon.

    See above.

    Totally cooler than Salamence

    [IMG] [IMG]
Seeing these awesome plant lizards in the anime helped me love them more. That’s not to mention a lovely, albeit outdated, reverse holo Sceptile card that I’m sentimental over.

Probably my favorite Water/Ground type. The orange accents help make its design interesting.

    [IMG] [IMG]
Long ago, a certain je ne sais quoi drew me to Corphish, which I now understand to be its derp. Crawdaunt, meanwhile, exudes pure coolness.

    [IMG] [IMG]
    Splendidly spoopy spirits.

    [IMG] [IMG]
Aron’s lil mask is dang cute, and Aggron’s such a cool final form for it.

    Acorn. Enough said.

Its formerly unique type combo made it interesting, but Surskit doesn’t need it to be unique and adorable.

sorry pod but i'll be stealing your post format
    [IMG]
Absolute favorite. Devilish rock gremlin that couldn't be better. It and it's Mega are equally loved by me.

Second only to Sableye. It'd be near impossible for me to dislike a haunted cicada husk.

Torpedo Shark. I prefer the original to the Mega, though.

Inaccurate as it may be, its an antlion with an adorably oversized head that's mostly mouth.

Wonderfully crustacean in appearance. An asshole crawfish who makes fantastic use of Dragon Dance.

    [IMG][IMG]
Sleazy poison dart frogs with shit-eating grins. Just as deadly as the real things. I love them.

A fly trap pokemon that ambushes it's prey. It's great, I love those blank eyes.

Delightfully smooth fusion of a scorpion and a bat. My favorite detail is that it has Poison Heal without actually being part poison.

    [IMG][IMG]
I love Rotom and all of it's forms, but the original and Frost forms are special to me.

Poison heal would be useless on Poison types, hence why it's very scarcely distributed. Good choices, by the way. :D

@Cilantro Your top 3 from Gen 3 are some of my other favorites, though I couldn’t squeeze their pictures into my post. Also, I’m a sucker for Claydol.

    More Gen III spillover:

One of the few Megas I genuinely enjoy, like with Sableye’s

    Beep boop

    [IMG] [IMG]
Love the literal punching bag. Sumo dude ain’t bad, either

    Gen IV:

Cute design and a fun cry.

    More spoopiness.

    [IMG] [IMG]
I love Rotom’s whole concept, and these two are my favorite of its forms.

Don’t worry, we’ll be out of the Ghosts in a minute. But this witch is real neat.

A worthy evolution for the cute Tangela

It’s such a weird and great mutation of Magneton!

An awesome design with a neat and unexpected type combo.

    Just beautiful.

I rather love the temporal dragon.

Okay, one more Ghost. A Dragon Ghost that rules the underworld.

A walking terrarium of a tortoise that I raised to level 100 on my own. Gotta love it.

Same as above, but read “kingly penguin”

While it may seem like I would really like Mismagius, its never really struck anything within me. I can still appreciate how cool it is, though. The same for most of the ones you listed, such as Giratina and Mowtom
