We all know that the anime from time to time has a awful case of missed opportunity and that shows with how some of Ash's Mons are treated by the writers.
So, let's the Pokémon that we want to come back and get a second chance in the limelight in a future series or arc!
1.Torterra- the poor butt monkey got the Worf effect, so that the writers could give all the glory to Infernape and the dude lost every battle he was in since he was a Grotle. FFS please let him redeem himself!
2. Snivy- She's had zero development since she was captured and dons a backstory that was all but abandoned so I think she should come back to at least evolve.
3. Totodile- I just want to see him evolve into his first stage so that he won't be the odd man out of Ash's gen 2 starters.
4. Oshawott- I always though that the little otter was supposed to THE water starter the break the curse but instead the writers made him Piplup 2.0 and he never became the Dewott that he should've been.
Palpitoad- Because he was barely used.
So who would you'll like to see atoned?

Definitely Oshawott. It's whole evolutionary line is based going from a wannabe badass (which perfectly describes Ash's Oshawott) to a strong and dignified warrior. Torterra is a close second though, why let Turtwig evolve all the way if it's going to do nothing but embarrass itself and its whole species?

Kingler, that loss against Psyduck dosen't look good on its record. Tauros could do with a solid win after the tie against Metagross and pitiful loss to Nidoqueen. The five you mentioned really need it too

Muk
While Krabby and all those Tauros were caught for functionary reasons (to demonstrate the Rule of 6 and for the sake of a joke, respectively) when the creative team never meant to truly use them, Muk was legitimately captured--in fact, one of the precious few Pokémon that actually was--and should've done more than it actually did. You can count the times it's been used on one hand!

...however, it's too little, too late now and there's really no point :-(

Also, Kingler, who should've been Ash's 6th mon after Butterfree was released, and who kinda got screwed over at its last chance at glory during the Johto League >_<

Torterra
Evolving is supposed to make a Pokémon better, not a lot worse...

And, of course, his Isshu Pokémon that weren't Starters (even then Snivy sucked) or Krocky Smalls.

Oshawott: He suffered so much from being Piplup 2.0 and was played off as a joke. He needs to come back for some serious battles he can actually win. He needs an evolution also.
Torterra: Torterra unfortunately got nerfed pretty bad after evolving and hasn't won a single match since then, mostly to give glory to Infernape. I think Torterra could use a win or two.
Quilava: Cyndaquil's evolution was left in vain as we didn't even get to see the entirety of his first battle as a Quilava. For no explicit reason, the writers had to cut away to Team Rocket selling stuff FOR NO REASON! FOR TWO MINUTES It was not relevant AT ALL. Give him a full battle, show his true strengths, and let him win. A tie after a VERY LONG AWAITED evolution is not satisfying.

It would be funny if they managed to use every single Tauros once. They put numbers on them, and makes sure Ash uses everyone at some point.

Pretty much all of them.
You know, how people tend to attach themselves more to old Pokemon than newer Ppokemon.

Snorlax doesn't need redeeming because he's wonderful, but, it would be nice to see him make a return. I'm not sure how or why, but he seems to be simultaneously one of Ash's least favourite Pokémon and also one he has a special bond with. They're closer than any of the Unova team, and is quite tough, but isn't really used.

His Unova back ups really... since they didn't do much. His first stagers like Totodile, Gible etc could do with a few episodes to evolve at least once too, though Gible was a powerhouse anyway.

These are the ones that need to come back and evolve at least
Gible - Gible needs to have a lil bit of a maturity evo, Gible is strong and got a fair few battles in the lil time he was in, even getting a nice hit on Darkrai, but I feel his personality was something of an infant child teething, only really calming down to eat and battle. I think if he were to evolve into a stubborn, teen Gabite trying to prove himself strong
Totodile - We only saw him as the happy go lucky dancer, he needs to evolve and become a mighty power dancer haha

These need to come back to redeem themselves as a battler
Torterra - The poor giant land tortoise only had his spot light as the swifty Turtwig and then went all down hill and into the darkness for Infernape. Needs to come back and prove that he can still hold his own and knock some Pokes OUT!
Kingler - Not very much shine for this big guy except for its main evolution battle. Needs to come back with a couple new moves and knock something down!
Muk - I don't know what they could do with him but they need to do something! Muk was shown to be durable and give a mega body slam against a lil badass Bellsprout but other then that, he gives amazing hugs. I want to see him do more in battle

Torterra, hands down. The poor guy got shafted in every battle except TRio battles. It's almost like evolving from Grotle served the poor giant turtle absolutely no benefits. Sure, I get that a lot of the focus was supposed to be on Infernape, which I'm not complaining about, but poor Torterra really got the short end of the stick (eheheh, no pun intended). I mean, it's like Torterra's only purpose in the anime was to clobber TRio, though I will admit it did fair better than Buizel and Staraptor against Paul in the League, despite still getting its giant shelled backside handed to it by Drapion. But still, I was rather disappointed that my favorite Grass Starter got almost brutalized each time it was sent out. So I feel they really need to give Torterra a little retribution for what happened to it during Sinnoh, as Turtwig and Grotle actually proved to be decent threats, but Torterra was almost a joke.

Second place goes to Palpitoad, as despite being portrayed as a powerful Pokemon at first, later down the road he got pretty much downsized. His only real achievement would be one of those Don tournament things, when he first debuted under Ash's control, and proved to be powerful. Even when he had the advantage, such as against Elesa, Roxie, and Stephan, he wasn't portrayed the same way as his first two battles under Ash's command. Though, let's face it, aside from Pignite, Leavanny, Krookodile and maybe Oshawott, most of Ash's Unova Pokemon didn't get much time in the limelight or much development to begin with. But Palpitoad does deserve a second chance if you ask me.

2. Snivy- She's had zero development since she was captured and dons a backstory that was all but abandoned so I think she should come back to at least evolve.

no no no no no

And yes, she had zero development because she didn't need to.
She was caught in ep 7 and they did nothing with her. She had a past that was supposedly similar to Froakie's but that was never addressed nor bought up again. Altogether they wasted her

Well I would like to see them all back, but the following are the ones that I think really deserve a second chance.
Torterra: for the same reasons that's been said before.
Oshawott: He's one of those that deserves to evolve.
Totodile: The Johto region starters were the ones less developed and I think Totodile deserves to come back for some spotlight the same way Cyndaquil did.
Bayleef: same reason as totodile.
Scraggy: I really love Scraggy and would love to see it coming back and getting stronger. Maybe even evolving.
Muk: The least used of all Ash's Pokemon

I want to say Snivy, but to be fair, a lot of Ash's Pokémon were poorly handled in previous seasons. When Snivy was caught, I thought she would be the Charmander/Treecko/Chimchar of Best Wishes, but... She wasn't. She didn't get enough screen time, she didn't evolve, she rarely even battled. Such a shame they gave more focus to Pignite instead of her. Mind you, I have nothing against the Tepig line, but Ash's Tepig was nothing special. Just yet another "generic Fire-type starter who was poorly treated by its trainer", while Snivy had a more unique backstory and potential to be an incredible Pokémon in Ash's Team. Also from Best Wishes, another poorly handled Pokémon was Krookodile. And Oshawott, but before Frogadier, it was the rule for Water-type starters to be poorly handled in Pokémon.

And yes, she had zero development because she didn't need to.
what

Getting taken out immediately after using Synthesis is one of the most embarrassing moments in the anime ever. So yeah, Torterra is the most prioritized Pokemon at the moment to receive redemption. Heck, I'd rather Ash bring Torterra back instead of Sceptile in the XYZ season, assuming he's gonna bring an older Pokemon back. As for his other Pokes;

Kanto: His forgotten Pokemon could use a comeback, specifically Muk and Kingler. I don't think any of his Tauros has any reason to return, though I wouldn't mind it either.
Johto: Besides Bayleef, his starters could use a comeback. Would be nice to see Totodile evolve at least once. Heracross would also make a great Mega Evolution candidate, although his actions in his battle against Darkrai is already enough as a redemption.
Hoenn: The last time we saw Torkoal was when he was cannon fodder against Darkrai, so yeah, something needs to be done about him. Glalie could get a Mega Evolution, too.
Sinnoh: Not much to say, almost every single one of his Pokemon did good (besides Torterra). I guess Gible could return, but he's already decent enough in the anime.
Unova: His underused Pokemon could use a comeback, especially Snivy and Palpitoad.

Over the years there always existed pokemon belonging to Ash or other main character we wished to see utilized more. Learn new things about it, have better showcase than what that pokemon originally received with new moments of them being imprinted in history of pokemon series.

But which ones were royally screwed over to point of leaving indellible bitter taste in fans mouth when it comes to Ash? Being in dire need of second chance, opportunity to wash out negative stigma and become more favorable and fondly loooked upon in people eyes?

For me this would be this four pokemon in Ash team:
-Torterra: kinda obvious pick, but i remember how glad i was when Ash Turtwig evolved all the way to this massive bulky pokemon. Opening so much potential for Ash in learning how to train and properly utilize heavy tank like pokemon where speed and agility would need to be replaced with more defensive tactics and flexible battle style using wisely its raw power.

Something his rival Paul was successfully doing with his Torterra.

There were even episodes focusing on grass pokemon decrease of agility with Paul Torterra helping Grottle in learning how to cope with new size. E4 Bertha teaching Ash about needing to be more observant not knowing how to take advantage of its size.

But ever since Ash received his own version disappointments started without seeing trainer adjusting to this pokemon needs and limits. Still insisting on whole rock climb thing to increase speed backfiring in every single match, making me disappointed how this cool pokemon was treated like punching bag. Receiving one loss after another (against E4 member, Volkner, Paul etc).

Never receiving opportunity to shine, reveal its true potential and qualities. As such being presented in better, more threatening light.

-Totodile: you know pokemon has bad record when it was used only in one battle for gym badge(Whitney) losing twice aganst her.

Out of all major battles it had and there werent that many it had more loses than wins . Not to mention this small water alligator never had chance to learn more unique moves as they come with release of new games. Unlock its full potential and possibly evolve as well.

Not being used in not even one battle ever since Jphto.
As result of that he is often viewed among many as Ash's weakest water pokemon rotting at Oaks lab like he never existed.
To this day i think giving him to water specialist like Misty would had been ultimately better idea having chance to train, battle and even evolve by now (either at gym or through her possible solo travels).

Inastead of ending wasted and forgotten like this. Because of everything mentioned above Ash Totodile is in dire need of comeback imo, chance to redeem for its bad record in past and improve initial poor portrayal in which this anime presented it.

Than again some were used even less.

-Muk: It is Ash's only pure poison pokemon and arguably most weird looking one. But in original interesting way. It has likable personality showing lot of emotion and spirit, even though given his very rare and far between appearances kinda limited characterization. Not being given time and focus to flesh him out.

It was used in just three battles. Jeanette Fisher, Team Rocket and Gary in Silver conference winning only in first one where it saved Ash from being kicked out of tournament.

I guess i can understand why this pokemon was rarely used in OS. Since during that time writers were still in process of finding right tune for this anime, they were less experienced and knowledgeable about proper distribution of focus and character development. Most of all humans were kinda more prevalent over pokemon back than with more energy and attention being delivered into fleshing them out.

BuT there is no excuse for Muk being completely forgotten and never used in whole Hoenn, Sinnoh, Best Wishes and now Kalos.

There were so many opportunities to utilize this pokemon again, so many ways in developing Ash through use of this pokemon. Who both by appearance and moveset is more of defensive typre. Seeing trainer work in strengthening its offensive power and use defensive features more productively. Because Muk body proved to be excellent absorber even holding its own for abit against Gary Blastoise.

As Ash's most underused pokemon out of those in his posession (not counting members of Tauros herd which were never used), Muk deserves to return . Spend some substantial time with its trainer and allow to gain some actual development. It would be especially cool if he received treatment like Phanpy did when Ash took him during whole Battle Frontier leading into his evolution in Donphan entering quite a few important battles serving as learning experience for it.

I mean i wouldn't be against joining Ash as part of permanent pokemon team during filler season.

But given how much it had passed ever since Muk was used in any battle, i dont have much faith in writers being favored toward this pokemon sadly.

-Noctowl: now this choice may raise up some questions because there exist pokemon in Ash roaster less used and developed than this pokemon. But i always thought Noctowl didn't got proper justice.

He is only shiny pokemon Ash ever caught and top on that only one who has psychic powers. Opening road toward utilization of lot of cunning and sophisticated techniques pokemon with psychic characteristics can in reality provide. But did writers ever really took their time and energy in exploiting this allowing this owl to live up to its standards?

Not exactly.

It was seldom used in Johto and as result of that didn't had much spotlight to work on expanding its moveset, demonstrate growth of its quirks and personality. Let alone deveoping closer bond with its triner.

Yes it did had its showcasing in Lily of Valley conference doing pretty well vs Schukle and defeating Conway Lickilicky. But given is rarity and unique features this pokemon has accompanied with fact of being aside from Pidgeot second and least used out of all flying types in Ash posession pokemon, i think Noctowl deserved better and more than what it has been given.

p.s. On side note all this talk about older pokemon deserving return, more development and chance to shine reminded me of quite a few older human main characters left in dust abandoned. Who deserved better and more, but thats talk for another time and place.

Torterra deffo, i loved Turtwig and Grotle, but as soon as Grotle evolved all the personality seemed to vanish and Torterra became a joke, which was a real shame because he was one of my favourites. Looking back it would have been better if Grotle didn't evolve but Torterra definetley needs a comeback
