Back when the Pokémon TCG first started, the then-fifteen types were condensed into seven types in the card game. In Neo Genesis, the Darkness and Metal types were added, bringing the total to nine. In Diamond & Pearl, Poison-type Pokémon, which were traditionally Grass-type in the TCG, became Psychic-type. Later, Dragon-type Pokémon, which were originally Colorless, became their own individual type. Most recently, in the XY Base Set, Fairy-type Pokémon have been introduced, with a sneak-peek in the Kalos Starter Set.

Now that there are eleven types in the TCG, one of which has diverged and become its own type, as well as two types which have exchanged one group of Pokémon, it begs the question: which other in-game Pokémon types deserve their own type in the TCG? Here are my personal top three:

Ice-type: Water-type Pokémon seem to be the most frequently-occurring in the entire TCG, and the array of abilities and traits they have is quite diverse. Although it is the least likely in this list to become its own type, Ice-type Pokémon in the TCG seem to already have a certain set of the Water type's abilities (locking down foes, paralysis and energy removal, among others), so these could be good themes for a separate Ice-type, while Water-types use energy switching and other abilities. There could even be a new "frozen" special condition. Ice-type Pokémon cards could be pale turquoise in colour. Ice-type Pokemon could be weak against Metal (as they are now), Fighting or Fire. Pokémon which could be weak against Ice include Rock (if they're Ground-type in the games; see below) or Colorless (if they're Flying-type in the games). Fire-type Pokémon could resist Ice.

Rock-type: Covering both Rock and Ground Pokémon, I think this could be a worthy new type for the TCG. It could differentiate from the Fighting-type by featuring Pokémon with lots of HP and having barrage attacks as a theme, while Fighting-types could be the powerful heavy-hitters they currently are. Rock-type Pokémon cards could be dark grey or reddish-brown in colour. Rock-type Pokémon could be weak against Water (as some are now), Grass (as some are now) or Ice (if they're Ground-type in the games; see above). Pokémon which could be weak against Rock include Lightning, Grass (if they're Bug-type in the games) or Colorless (if they're Flying-type in the games). Rock-type Pokémon could resist Colorless (if they're Rock-type in the games), Poison (if they're Rock-type in the games; see below) or Lightning (as some are now).

Poison-type: if there's one type which in my opinion deserves to become its own type, it's the one which has been thrown around the type chart most of all. Poison-type Pokémon would already have clearly-defined themes, the most obvious of which is poison. Poison-type Pokémon could be indigo in colour. Poison-type Pokémon could be weak against Psychic (as they are now). Pokémon which could be weak against Poison include Fairy and Grass (if they're Grass-type in the games). Poison-type Pokémon could resist Grass. Poison-type Pokémon could be resisted by Steel-type Pokémon (similarly to how they are now).

Which types would you like to see become their own type in the TCG? :kawaii:

Poison is the only one that doesn't fit into the existing types completely. Ice fits well with water, bug fits well with grass, and rock and ground fits well with fighting

I think Ice would be the most interesting. Just to break up the abundance of Water-type cards there are, if nothing else.
