By character design alone, I like Journeys. It's a mix between XY's ''mature'' design and SM's simpler and more dynamic style which somehow worked.

By battle animation, I'm torn between XY and SM, but while SM was more fluid, I think XY had a better choreography and it had this sense of weight and form that I felt that SM lacked in a few battles.

By colors, OS hands down. I love how they used bright colors, but they knew how to dose it so it doesn't looks bad and irritates the eye. I wish the newer series played with colors like they did in the past tbh. They knew how to set the mood by using them so well in OS, yet they never bothered to do it again. :(

By background, XY did a huge improvement where the set designs actually look alive and 3D.
 
The original artstyle is so beautiful to look at, and ironically, ages far better than Journeys.
