Why are the writers pretending like this doesn't exist?

I hate it when fans come up with their own 'head canons' and try to pass off those theories as being above the 'word of God'. Ash was stated to be 10 in his official character bio on both the Japanese and English SuMo sites a couple of years ago iirc and yet I still remember some folks trying to deny that Ash was 10 in that saga. Like damn. :/

We really should gather sources before we get into a flame war over the "Ash is 10 forever" vs "Ash is ageless" debate.

I think what the writers mean is that the reason why Ash is pretty much Peter Pan (apart from the flying, pixies, and Hook) is because they intent to continue using him, Pikachu, and Team Rocket as the "mascots" for the anime for as long as the franchise is ongoing, so they would think aging Ash up implies that within several decades, he'll be too old to be used as a protagonist in a series aimed mainly at the 3 - 7 demographic.

Stating that a lack of continuity because "it's a kids show" is also lazy writing.

I think a lack of strong continuity feels less jarring when Satoshi is in a far off region with new friends going on an adventure with an overarching goal in mind. Even the audience can be allowed to forget about the past for 20 minutes when watching an episode.

But in this show, they go back to Kanto almost every episode even if it happens off screen, and see Mr. Mime at the dorm too. It is so close to home now that there is zero excuse why Satoshi wouldn't go visit the lab and his Pokemon in his hometown every once in a while.

In XY he actually referenced one of his old travel companions when he see a pokémon used by that companion, which is a thing neither SM nor PM done (yet).

Seriously, what is wrong with showing continuity in the show? Especially if they're able to show us that ash did leave all those years ago and saw ho-oh?

The biggest problem right now is that the show has messed its own timeline up and it doesn't seem concerned in fixing it? Perhaps the best way is to keep ash's age mysterious like they did before best wishes. Maybe then they won't be concerned to let us know that ash is a 10 year old all the time.

alternate dimension theory for movie... maybe Alola arc could be a moement when he was actually between some other generations?
Mr Mime was showcassed? He left his Alola pokemon there not without a reason... but seriously was thinking he could have a bettle tree arc and then trade and take pikachu and a new pokemon to Galar.
