Why do you think Dawn got so much spotlight compared to the other females?

I can't remember where... but somewhere xD, I did read a blog or translation of a blog about that, to put it simply, it was a decision of writers to give her so much spotlight because they intended to have more of a duo instead of trio.

If their intentions was to focus on a duo, why become so one minded and give us a trio travel where Brock became obsolete most of the series? Wouldn't a duo travel focus more on Ash and Dawn be better and new, have Ash develop more personal skills that he failed to succeed and have Dawn more major roles outside of Contests, connection to Mesprit and whatever I wasn't able to think of right now?

It's probably too much for anime to make the older audiences stay interested in Pokemon as it could offend the young ones with puzzling situations they may try to replicate for their own and forces parents to oppress. With these possible mistakes in mind, and also from their past experiences that causes them to drop 2 of their episodes in the entire Pokemon series, they can't afford to do this again.

As for the topic, Dawn was a co-star constructed properly since May, who seem to act as another traveling companion until Contests kicked in, as many mentioned. They did heavily advertised her since the beginning and it's a shame some things never change with the travelers. I feel they lessened Dawn's importance a tiny bit in the middle of DP simply to avoid extreme fan service.

However, I was a little annoyed they didn't give May enough screen time and attention.

Why do people keep saying this? May got a LOT of screentime in AG. She may not have been shoved down our throats as much as Dawn was, but a large chunk of AG's episodes were about her.

Almost every non-Ash ep of AG was about May. Max and Brock only got a handful of eps, and most Max fillers involved May anyway. May also shared spotlight with Ash in some eps, such as, "The Bicker the Better," "Pasta La Vista" and so forth.

Likewise most of May's Contests were 2-parters, whereas most of Dawn's were only 1 part. Not to mention May actually had more Contests than Dawn overall and two Grand Festivals. May also got a big role in Movie 9 at the end of her run.

Seriously, where is this coming from? This, "pity party" is absolutely ridiculous. The only thing they should have done is a few Johto specials with her, but that's obviously too late now.

She mostly the most spotlight because she was the most annoying. Beside her beging annoying I not a Dawn hater I think that May got a lot of stoplight poor Misty to cheer her up I will put pics of Misty.

Then why they didn't just use the BW heroine? I assume that's because the BW heroes are older than the usual and unlike the games, with the anime they're still afraid to aim at an older age group...

The thing with Dawn is that she got an entire debut episode focused around her and that they called DP "Satoshi and Hikari's Adventure" Dawn's Piplup got more development than May's Torchic did and while Dawn caught her first pokemon 7 episodes into DP, May didn't catch a pokemon until around 14 episodes after she got interested in contests. Also, May's debut episode was mainly about Pikachu being sick. If May was really the co-star of AG then why didn't they call it "Satoshi and Haruka's Adventure?" I know that May got a lot of screentime but Dawn got more, especially in the beginning.

I don't even know if Dawn getting more spotlight than the others is always a factor as to why some fans like her better. Dawn is personally my least favorite of all four girls so far, despite her getting so much focus; her personality just didn't do it for me. I guess it's good that they finally gave a girl as much spotlight as Ash, but if you don't like her personality, then you can't really appreciate it. Which is why it doesn't matter to me how much focus a character gets; if their personality bores me, then I won't like them.

I think Dawn's spotlight AT THE START, is why people were initially impressed with her. She got a whole ep to herself as her debut, her starter got tons of screentime, and she started off doing a lot of battling and, "jumping into the action" as much as Ash did.

But as DP started progressing, the novelty started to wear off, and people didn't really care so much about Dawn getting all this screentime anymore.

I still remember all that initial DP hype surrounding Dawn when she first appeared, and how as time progressed some people lost interest.

I think the problem is most of her battles, outside of contests, were really just spamming Piplup 90% of the time.

Buneary was used quite a lot in the beginning of DP. Albeit, because Dawn didn't have many Pokemon at the time. But Mamoswine was used in quite a few fillers. Promoting Healthy Tangrowth, Trials and Adulations, and a couple of others if I recall correctly. But still, the rest of her team really did get shafted, especially Pachirisu, with an exception of Mamoswine.

It's easy to forget that when her contest episodes resembled Kanto gym battles and her friend/mentor would rather be outside training than watch her participate in these matches.

Basically, the writers completely devalued her screen time despite giving her a lot of it.
