The ninth Generation of Pokémon is swiftly approaching, and to celebrate this milestone, Bulbagarden is giving away nine pre-order copies of either Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet! It could hardly be easier to enter - all you have to do is make a comment under this news post, answering one simple question: Which starter Pokémon are you planning to use in Scarlet or Violet, and why?

Your response can be as long as you like, but must actually answer the question. For example, "I'm planning on using Quaxly in my first Scarlet playthrough because I haven't used a Water-type starter since Gen IV!" would be a good response, but "I'm going to use the green one, just because." would not be. Final judgement on if a sufficient answer has been given will rest with the Bulbagarden staff.

The deadline for all entries is Friday September 16th, at 11:59pm (PDT). Once this deadline has passed, we will randomly select our nine winners from respondents. Winners will be contacted in the first instance via Bulbagarden Forums DM, and then via any other contact details connected to their Bulbagarden Forums account in the event that we don't receive a response.

Due to Amazon pre-order limitations, we can only award up to three copies per geographic region; Amazon US, UK etc. Winners in Canada and some other countries may also be required to answer a basic skill-testing question to receive their prize, in compliance with local laws. As a result of these factors, we will also need to know the country in which you are based, so make sure you've added this information to your account details to confirm your eligibility.

Full terms and conditions for this contest, along with an FAQ, can be found here.

Good luck, Trainers!

Quaxly is my guy because he so cute just a little handsome guy he so regal

The grass starter is always a reliable choice and I like cats. Spirigatito is very sweet. I'm guessing that the final form will show the deadlier side of cats, maybe a high speed dark type. I just hope it's four-legged.

I think I'll be using Fuecoco. I don't usually pick fire starters, but I can't refuse a cute baby Crocodile! And I'm hoping he keeps with a "ghost pepper" sort of theme as is a fire/grass type in the end too

I'm picking Quaxly, because my 2 other friends are picking Fuecoco and Sprigatito, so that would leave me with quaxly

I'm going with Sprigatito, I love cats and it's about time for me to go with the Grass-type starter again.

Sprigatito for sure! I have a lot of cats so I would like to make that homage. Hopefully it won't turn Bipedal, although a grass/fighting would be interesting

I think I will choose Sprigatito because it feels like a living pet animal to me, something that I feel all the best starters are. Cats have also been my favorite animal since I was a kid and it is one of the best cat designs Pokemon has made. It looks like it will be fun to have as a mainstay on my team and I'm very curious as to what it evolves into, both typing and design-wise.

I'll be choosing Quaxly because I Wanna bring my pokemon to a lemonade stand and ask the person running it if they have any grapes

I would use Sprigatito because I like cats and I haven't started with a Grass starter in a long time and also because it's so cute

Sprigatito is my choice for a starter! I love how cute it is, I tend to lean more toward grass type starters in general, and I'm also really hoping for a Grass/Fairy final form!

Seeing lots of Sprigatito love in the thread, but Fuecoco has my heart. I love its crocodile/pepper design, and I wonder what it'll evolve into.

I think I'm going to use Fuecoco because i think his final evo will be cool, and i like fire pokemon.

I'm picking Fuecoco, hopefully in Scarlet. I tend to go by process of elimination with starters, and I also usually pick the ones I think would be less popular. So, my thought process is something like "Sprigatito is a cat, so that's probably the most popular choice, (like it seemed to be with Litten), and Quaxly unfortunately reminds me too much of Ducklett". Or something like that, lol. I got nothing against Fuecoco (plus its name reminds me of the Fuego Ironworks in Sinnoh, which was a place I really liked), so I'm going Fire this time.

Currently, the standings are:
Grass: Gens 2 and 5
Fire: Gens 3 and 6
Water: Gens 1, 4, 7, and 8

I suppose it is about time I liked something other than water...

Although I liked Fuecoco and Sprigatito out of the whole trio, I still use Fuecoco for the first playthrough. In most cases, for the first pass, I use the fire type. Well, I also hope that the whole trio in the final form of evolution will receive an additional type.

I'm going to choose Quaxly as my partner as I've recently taken up Falconry and have a preference for birds at moment! Although you can't train a duck to fly through hoops... I'll certainly try

Sprigatito! I'm a big lover of cats and when I saw it I was immediately in love with it. Whatever it becomes, I'm all for it! No matter what!
