Up Above are The Corocoro Magizine and Screenshots of the New World Tournament Feature in Black & White 2

You get to battle previous Gym Leaders and Elite Four members, whom you download through Wi-Fi (apparently the characters themselves and their teams). You can participate in either single or double battles against them.

Will you get to also battle previous other characters in the games? (Eusine, Barry, Ect) Will it effect the story?

DISCUSS.

I did this math awhile back.

8 gym leaders, 5 regions. 40 total. 4 Elite 4 and 1 Champion, 5 Regions. 25 Total.

Lance is repeated. 64. Tate + Liza not in Singles, 63, one spot for PC. 64, perfect tourney size.

As for the above photo, it is not a coincidence all the Kanto gym leaders are grouped up like that. What is interesting is that Sabrina is indeed missing, and that the seven battlers surrounding the PC are the Kanto gym leaders only. Nevertheless, we have confirmation that Steven Stone, Volkner and Cynthia will particpate, so it will not be Kanto exclusinve. I think the photo on the right is there just to withhold some info so was manipulated to have those 8.

Eusine and Barry will not appear.

I'm mostly excited for the Hoenn gym leaders. They must have some kind of refreshed outfits, even if they aren't very different. I'm not even much of a battler but I can't wait to see their animated battle sprites! I hope they don't leave anyone out.

I dont know about Hoenn though, since the remakes might be comming... but let's NOT get into that.

I doubt they're placing 64 in total for a single tournament. We know that even amongst those revealed to be in it, some of them are only in the games via special distribution methods. At most, I don't see them doing more than 16. I personally don't like how the tournament board is spread out, fairly difficult to figure out who's progressing since the entire name obscures the lines. I think it would have been best if they used sprites only, but w/e.

Back to the point, with some trainers being available only through distribution, the idea of 64 tournament person isn't viable. I'd say a random mix of 7 (plus PC makes 8) are used each time. It certainly gives rematches more variety.

Plus, doing this would allow for more trainers to be added. While Pokemon's DLC generally don't add new data, we've seen them able to do it with regards to C-Gear and Musicals. It's not out of the question that entire teams couldn't be downloaded, given that the games not only have the space for it, but they've done it in DPPt's Battle Tower as well (downloading teams of real people). This would allow for unique battles with trainers alluded to in the games but never having actually appeared, such as Dawn/Lucas' father, or Game Freak staff, being added as the games go by.

EDIT: Bruno is also repeated btw.

Koga is also repeated - Gym Leader in Kanto and E4 in Johto.

Also, I think this could be a perfect opportunity to battle past PCs. This might be unpopular, but I'd love to battle old PCs and of course Red again!

Janine would take Koga's place as a Kanto gym leader. As for Bruno being repeated, there's still Juan or Wallace to fill in that extra spot.

Cynthia during the summer in Undella
During the Summer
"I'd love to live here...But if I did, there would be a mountain of research piled up...Am I right? Cynthia, enough for now! Next time, clean up."
"What is necessary for becoming stronger than you are now? My answer is simply loving Pokemon with all your heart. That's how I am, so that's all I can say."
"Hmm. This is difficult. I was greedy and bought a lot of swimsuits, but now I can't pick which one to wear."
"Here's my problem. I have a white swimsuit and a black swimsuit...Which one would look better on me?"
"Once every few years, the Champions of each region gather and compete to see who is the strongest! An interesting idea, don't you agree?"

Gamefreak literally told us about this when BW was released :O

I didn't remember verbatum my theory, I did miss those, and I believe I originally allocated space for former PCs and Rivals.

You guys aren't counting some people. Have you all forgot about the original B/W Gym leaders? Its kind of obvious they aren't the gym leaders. We already know 3 new gym leaders, and that Brycen and Elisia(?) are in Pokewood. For that matter, what about the E4 From B/W? We havn't heard a single DROP of info on THEM. Now I'm not including Alder in the E4 As he is in the game. So that gives us... 64.(With PC.)

MATH: 8 X 5= 40
4 X 5= 20+
60
+5
+1
-3
= 63 PERFECT TOURNEY!
NOTES:
I had both poison type kanto leader/E4 in.
Wallace and Steven are BOTH in
Lance is counted once.
Bruno is counted once.
Tate and Liza are 1
Both Unova Dragon Leaders are counted as 1.

If we aren't counting them, and we get 64, how would adding them in bring us back to that number >_>

I don't know what the fixation on "64" is other than denial that this tournament would likely only consist of 8 trainers at a time (going by what we're given), so the roster is probably randomly chosen for each battle.

Now, let's assume the number is larger than that. People estimate 64 with the invalid assumption that they are all available at once. However, we know that many of the trainers are only available via special downloads. Whether this would be a slightly more frequent wifi event, or distributions through Global Link, that piece of knowledge alone invalidates the idea that we're having a 64-person tournament.

Put it simply, it's much easier to have a smaller number of NPC's in the tournament, as you don't need to adhere to such a rigid restriction and can even add new trainers as the game progresses even if it results in an uneven split.

EDIT: Your calculations for a perfect tourney involves assumptions on your part, on who to take out and who to leave in. Tate and Liza are double battle specialists, so at best, you can only assume they are in for the Double Battle portion. Furthermore, you suggest both Wallace and Steven are in. Where does that place Juan? Under your calculations, we're either doubling up on Hoenn champions, or doubling up on Sootopolis gym leaders, yet you count both of Unova's dragon leaders as a single entity.

I understand that a 64 person tournament is huge and crazy, but who said they were only available by special downloads, events, or GL? It just said it was WI-FI. Maybe you can connect to past Gens and who ever you beat in those games you could battle on BW2.

Wifi is the special download method >_>

I have no idea what you think Wifi is, but it doesn't involve connection to your past games. It involves a connection to the internet in which you download something to your game, like mystery gift. Every single news source confirms that the site says it is, and that some of these trainers are not available right off the bat.

I don't know why you think it involves connections with the past generation when nothing suggests that

64 is roughly the number of teams in the US NCAA college basketball tournament, I guess that's where the speculated guess comes from.

Won't it play out from the player's perspective? So gameplay-wise, it's just two battles against randomized gym leaders.

So there's going to be Wi-Fi events for the World Championship Tournament? *crosses fingers for Red as a Wi-Fi exclusive*

No past PCs, please god, no past PCs. OTL Red was bad enough. /wegetitfayeyouhateit.

I hope we can team up with a Gym Leader in this tournament, a la the Stat Trainers in the Battle Tower of DPPt. Being able to team up with Volkner or Steven would be awesome, duhuhuh...

I really like this feature, it's really cool. I wonder what Pokemon they'll use? Will they just use Pokemon they used on their actual teams, or will they use different Pokemon? I hope it's a mixture.

The only past PC I want to see is Brendan, except this would confirm May is the main character since Brendan as an NPC expressed his interest in opening up a gym in Slateport.

And hey, I'll finally get what I wanted, an end to this RSEmake nonsense and evidence toward RSEquels (oh god why did I coin that term)

Well, maybe Kris as well, just to make her existence canon despite HgSs, and to further cement the fact that she and Lyra are different characters.

Also, Professor Oak. Unfortunately, I think his team would be extremely derivative of Red's, using all three starters. People have noted already (I think in another thread if not this one) how weak Red would be in comparison given that he only seemed powerful because of the level curve.

Perhaps Morimoto can also appear using Mew given that he sneaked it in RGBY.

Or he could use the team that he had in RGBY that you could only battle using hacks.
