Would you name your kid after a Pokemon?

Definitely not. That could set them up to be made fun of, which I don't think I want to happen to my child. Even some better names, like Roselia and Altaria, would still be ridiculous.

I think it would be absolutely ridiculous to name a human being after a Pokemon. A pet I can understand, but a human child??? A child who will more than likely be going to school with other children; and just by the virtue of being children, will tease said "Pokechild" for having a name based after video game creatures?

I remember a kid in my school would get made fun of all the time because his name was Mario, and that is a real name of Latin origin! So no, I would never name a child after a Pokemon.

No that would be too traumatizing and embarrassing to them. Imagine all the bullying they would get if their name was Mr. Mime or Trubbish. Maybe I'd name my kid after a character from the anime like Ash , Misty or Iris , but not a Pokemon.

I like Jynx as a first name.
Overall, though, I think Pokemon could be cool middle names.
"Milo Lucario Jefferies"
Yeah, I like it.

There is an .. Ahem.. Adult actress... Named jynx maze. Its a cute name. Id struggle to name my child that.. Purely on the basis that it's related to pokemon

No. God, no. Kids can be quite nasty, and no child should suffer for their parents' unfortunate obsession.

I wouldn't even name them after the characters. I'm planning to move to Japan after college, and even there I wouldn't call my kids Satoshi or Hikari, and those are names I really, really like. Satoshi means wisdom and Hikari means light. And they are real names, but I still think it would doom them. Maybe not so much with Hikari, but Satoshi? Poor kid. Everyone would associate it with the show D:

No way! That's bordering on child abuse lol (although a friend of mine wants to name their first child Ash if she ever has kids because of pokemon...)

My sister named one of our pet goldfish Goldeen. When it died in four days she got another one and it was Golden II. (The fish I got at the same fair, Citrus, lived for several years...sorry, I just wanted to brag!)

Anyway, I think that Pokemon names can be a good pet name, but not a kids' name. But I'm not really a big fan of naming kids things that aren't already human "names," though. And I also just don't like most Pokemon names.

To me it sounds more like she wanted a "creative" misspelling of the word "jinx" than that she did it after the Pokemon, although I guess she could have. I just know that misspellings of "sexy"-sounding words are kind of a cliche porn-star name choice (and no, this is not because I closely follow the porn industry GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER).

NO.

Considering people these days are naming their kids all sorts of weird stuff (what with all the invented names, place names as first names, boys' names on girls, celebrity kid names, etc.), it would leave a bad impression. And more importantly, do you want your kid to get teased or have their teachers constantly mispronouncing it?

It's even weirder than non-Japanese people using Japanese names. I once saw a birth announcement for a white kid named Toshiro who didn't look Japanese at all. Imagine a plaque reading Toshiro Jones.

I admit it would be funny if someone called out "Bulbasaur, come over here!" and their kid came running to them.

A little off-topic, but I wonder if anyone would be weird enough to name their kid after a MLP: FIM character. Imagine a little girl named Twilight Sparkle or Pinkie Pie :eek:hdear:. Although I could see Celestia as a name - Celestia is actually a real first name. I think it means "heavenly" in Latin (quite fitting for the character).

I love the series to death, but i wouldnt name my child after a pokemon.ive named pets after pokemon (i had a dog named Pikachu that i REALLY wanted to name Umbreon but my parents wouldnt let me. poor dog got hit by a car a year later :( :(. Im getting off topic),but it would be more likely for me to name my kid after a character in the anime. XD my english teacher's first name is Joy and my Home Ec teacher's first name is Dawn XD.

Out of the 600+ Pokemon Im sure theres one that could be natural enough for a name... but wouldn't name my child Pikachu lol.

Hell....i'd name my kid after a Pokemon for laughs. Though they'd probably hate me for that so maybe not. ._.;;
