Writers' Workshop General Chat Thread

never did specialist Chem at high school, but manged to lose a good chunk of my hair a few times during science.

My Chemistry ended up being kind of messed up even though I managed to ace it. See, during my sophomore year, which was when I took the class, I moved in the middle of the year. The school I transferred to was so small, however, that they could only offer certain classes each year, and that year, they weren't offering Chemistry. So I was forced to take the second semester of physics BEFORE the first and I had to wait until the next year to finish both it and Chemistry. >.>

@vulcan539; That's a trick too, since as a guy, you probably don't have very long hair.

I was just boiling water in a beaker once and the entire bottom fell out. O_O It was totally not my fault but no one would let me live it down anyway.

I also eventually have to take classes on cultural diversity and discrimination that I've been putting off. Kind of a waste of time and money if you ask me, but hopefully they'll be interesting. I just feel like they're pointing out the differences. "Look at how weird these brown people are! Rather than just treating them with respect like any normal person, we should constantly be worrying about their religion and odd customs!"

You mean sociology and anthropology classes? Those aren't too bad; they might appear to start out that way, but then they really get you thinking about why people find religions and customs different from their own as alien and sometimes threatening to their own, and why people treat others the way they do. Then again, I'm a humanities person, so maybe I just found them inherently more interesting.

On the other hand, I couldn't stand math and chemistry in high school. I find physics interesting, but I can't understand the math behind the concepts at all, so I've only got a superficial understanding of it. I didn't take a single math class in college, and all my science classes were things like astronomy and geology. My brain just doesn't work in complex equations and numbers.

I hate humanities. I hate it even more than I hate physics and PE. I was forced to take it because my stepbrother got me kicked out of our PE class. We normally weren't supposed to be in any of the same classes, but we ended up with the same PE class somehow and got into a fight. HE was the one that started it and it takes two to tango, so I don't know why he wasn't the one to get kicked out or get any sort of punishment at all.

But I hardly understood humanities at all. I barely passed it.

I had a similar situation. My external harddrive was beginning to no longer cooperate with me, so I decided to copy every file I had in it to my computer. Turns out that was a very good idea, because 30 minutes later, everything in it was deleted. At any rate, I believe that there's still a way to save your files. Try have a look at this, it might help: Link

Not exactly, but a long time ago, after I had just moved, I discovered my computer's hard drive was toast. Had to have been the damned movers. I lost EVERYTHING on it.

And more recently, the desktop computer I got to replace that one starting having boot-up issues. Luckily, I managed to transfer all my writing files to my laptop before it stopped booting up all the way entirely.

The problem is that since I jump around from computer to computer constantly, to the point that very little of my writing is done at home and most of it in libraries, that I save all my stuff on writer.bighugelabs, which unfortunately is where it was stored(I use it so much that I refer to it as part of my computer XP)

but, rather than complaining about it, I figure I might as well do as one of my favorite songs goes, "I've got to live with what I've done, and find the strength to continue"

Uggghh... has anyone ever had an issue with something requesting stories or asking for something in your story to go a certain way? I have just had to deal with someone on FF.net basically demanding me to write a story they have requested and they seem incapable of getting my answer through their apparently very thick skull!

There's an ignore or block button, isn't there?

I am ignoring the person and will block them should they not get the message. I was largely wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, and I would be especially interested if it had happened to anyone on this site.

No, I've never had anything like that happen to me before at all, on either site. :/

But that sucks, you're doing good by just ignoring/blocking him.

Do it, but make him pay you. Writers should start taking commissions like visual artists do.

cha-ching

Otherwise your story will disagree with their headcanon. And if that happens, the world will end in a massive fireball of nerd-rage. You clearly don't understand the gravity of this situation.

I would gladly take the weirdo's cash if I actually had the time to do their stories and if they weren't trying to insist on the dullest, most childish plot line in the history of the world :p

Actually...this is a really good idea. If you're getting cash out of it, who cares if he wants something dull and childish? At least it'll be simple to do, you could probably shit it out in an hour or so (depending on how long they want it). After all, isn't that how publishing works in the real world? Publishing houses tell you what to write, and if you don't write it, you don't get published so you don't get money.

If I had the time to write (I have my own ongoing series that haven't been updated in five months) I potentially would ask for cash, but I imagine that the person would drop their request in a second :p It would be quite uncommon on FF.net, unlike devianArt where comissions appear to be a big part of the site.

And AetherX, it is a request for another fandom that I don't particularly like writing for that much anyway as you are rather restricted by it. If it was a Pokemon request then I may do it.

Yeah, I've never had that happen to me, either. They might just be a troll. I say just don't respond to anything they say, if you've already told them no and they won't drop it.

I wish! It'd mean people are paying attention to my stuff! :p
