Writers' Workshop General Chat Thread

@Jabberwocky, yeah, I was referring to you and Legacy. And that's just in the Journey Fic category >_< But thank you, I will take that as a compliment

tbh, I think you and Legacy are the ones to watch there - though it's flattering to be considered such formidable competition.

Incidentally, I'm doing a little contest for Scales of Astrea if anyone's interested. Something to pass the wait while I write.

I will contribute to this trifecta of modesty and say that Jab and Pav are the duo to watch in the journey category haha. Seriously, it is flattering to hear my name mentioned like that. It should be fun.

Wow, never felt dumber than when I tried to make sense of that math discussion :/ I suck at math! Not only are you guys awesome writers, but you're smart with numbers too?! *swoon*

As for the Awards, you guys are all deserving :D

Hah, yeah, I'm not great with numbers - I know enough maths to be critical of statistics. I suspect I'm a better archer than the rest of you guys though :D

I've learned by now that my hopes of doing well in the awards depend entirely on the competition, since I certainly can't win by my own merit. Since it looks like some kind competition will once again be in existence this round, I have zero hopes. Well done gents, maybe I'll have better luck next time.

Nah, I'll submit because I always do. No reason not to!

Oh Flaze, have confidence! Women like confidence!

Given that you just swooned over my basic algebra abilities I'm not sure you're an entirely credible source xD

That said, math is totally sexy.

Reading that math discussion reminded me I needed to take my math placement exam. And taking that reminded me that taking a statistics class senior year was terrible preparation for math placement exams. The joys of being a social sciences specialist...

And people who have been writing here for more than two months need to stop complaining about awards probabilities.

Fine, then I'll beat all of you without breaking a sweat :p

What do you mean exactly? :p

Statistics is not normal math. While it's possibly more useful in most professions than normal math, it uses an almost entirely set of tricks and rules than calculus, which is the basis of most college-level math in the States. It's also the basis for placement exams to determine what level of math I start in at college, meaning that taking stats over the next higher level of calculus (I already took the first AP calc class last year) hurt my potential to score.

With that said, I didn't do terribly badly or anything. Just not as well as I probably could have done.

Hey, when you're going up against such distinguished competition, it's normal to get a bit nervous :p

'Sides, I've been writing here for half a decade; most I've gotten is an honorable mention. Longevity don't mean much.

Ahhh I wish I hadn't taken so freaking long with the second chapter of the new Stainless Steel. Oh well, the new chapter's coming together well enough, and I seem to remember the older version of it being really popular the first time around. :p

But anyway, yes, I do believe Legacy will be one to watch out for; I really need to get started on The Long Walk though.

While it is nice people are getting into the community vibe and Awards spirit, there are a lot of people who feel a tad nervous about entering the Awards and risk getting their stories torn to shreds; I don't think it will help their confidence if they think certain categories have already been decided before anyone has even begun nominating. Keep that spirit up, but just remember that there are a lot of stories that are capable of winning, especially in a big category like Journey, and we want as many people as possible to enter.

Question about the awards since I haven't entered anything in like a year:

So, we can nominate our own stuff now? Also, are works judged by specific chapters now? Sorry. I just can't find the actual rules so was just looking a the rundown.

It'd be good to have an awards overview thread again, I think. Or maybe an appendix in the rulebook.

I'm alive, I pinky promise.
