Writers' Workshop General Chat Thread

Shakespeare is great. Absolutely amazing. I like his works

Sadly, lotso teachers seem to manage to make him boring... Which is stupid, cause his plays or full of humour. I mean, nowadays he's put on a pedestal, but his plays or full of sex jokes and such. Problem is that time isn't always kind to that, and languages changes so quickly

Also, if you really wanna experience his plays the way they were, there should be people eating/drinking, talking, maybe even fighting, hookers on every corner, people socialising, all while the actors are performing. Oh and there should be bear and cock fights next door obviously

Seriously though, a play gets a lot easier to access when you see it, but on the other hand, if you wanna study it, you'll have to read it as well. But even then, try to see it performed as well

As or Hamlet, I've seen Tennant's version, as well as Dutch adaptation. The Dutch adaptation was kinda weird, and I'll have to admit Tennant is a bit too much the Doctor for me, so he isn't really my Hamlet

And what kind of edition Topaz? The only one I've seen around was a not too great one... (undoubtedly there are many editions of the entire collection)

Guys, quick question. What would be the best way to find a beta-reader? I checked out the beta-reading board, but that seems to have died a little... (the last post was from 2 years ago)

Obviously, I would love to help with something in return

I'd offer my services again, except that I'm already beta reader to FullMoon, and I'm not really sure how much help I am to him anyway. But yeah, I'm sure someone in the chat thread will agree to help you out.

You're a great help, don't worry.

I just need to go back to writing something =V

In that case, I'll formally post my request here XD

Would anyone be willing to beta-read for me? There is no hurry, as I'm still wrapping things up/editing, but I should be done with that soon. My most important concern is whether or not the first chapter sets up the story well, as I want to make it an episodic thing, as well as use it as a way to experiment with style

Actually, aside from that I have a somewhat minor world building thing I wouldn't mind people taking a look at as well, and tell me whether it makes sense or not

I wouldn't mind taking a look, I enjoy worldbuilding.

Hopefully you find a beta reader!

So, a Soulmaster popping in for a quick question. Sorry I've kinda disappeared.

Does anybody here know of any Pokemon stories with cover art? Cover art being something in the realm of 650x350. Banners aren't so good, really needs to around that size. This is for something one of my friends is putting together. Not sure how much I can say now as he wants it to be kept secret ATM.

I really need to catch up on my stories, unfortunately I don't remember where I left off... Well, not about to reread all of 8ES or PA:SYR : P

Anywho, yeah, I'm not dead. Can't wait to see what is pulled out of the hat. So many new people have come, I only know half of y'all now! That is an amazing feeling, this means that the section is still growing : )

Nice to see you popping in! I would thoroughly recommend reading 8ES, but that's justme :p

I don't know of any that do, sorry. I really want some for my work but don't know where to look.

Thanks so much for your help ^^ I already send you a reply to your suggestions, though upon sending I realised I'd still forgotten a somewhat minor point. Can't be helped I guess XD

Regarding the topic of cover art, really the only thing I would be able to think of is to look around on deviantArt and tumblr, and see if either anyone is offering trades (and seeing if you can make some kind of deal, some people might actually need/want things written) or otherwise if people are taken commissions (though that might get a bit more expensive) Or if you're really lucky, a fan might be willing to do fan art for you (but that's really something you can only kinda wait for)

Aside from that, I wouldn't really know any solutions

I'm writing a piece for my university magazine on the worst Pokemon ever created. To help inspire me, I was wondering which Pokemon you guys considered the worst - not overused or cliche or whatever, just Pokemon that are just generally poor in terms of design, ability and even backstory/PokeDex description.

I'd have to say Barbaracle. It's just ugly and has a fairly poor design. I guess it doesn't help that it's competitive viability is almost nonexistent.

Lickilicky, Lickitung, Magmortar, Greninja, and Blaziken are the worst, imo. Just horrible and ugly designs.

Dugtrio and Magneton are also pretty lazy, imo.

I reckon I could make a case of Lucario, but no-one would ever buy it. I think I'll go for Binacle. Design-wise I think it's disappointing. Two vaguely barnacle-like things stuck on a rock, with faces squashed on to them. The worst aspect is what a waste it is. If you're going to base a pokémon on the Goose Barnacle, then use the mythology! It used to be thought that geese (Specifically the Barnacle Goose) hatched from Goose Barnacles. Surely that's ripe territory for an unexpected evolution. It's not like pokémon don't make obscure mythological references all the time either

If we're going statwise, It's between Combee and Unown for me, though I'm mostly tipping towards Combee. Why Combee? I think JWittz pretty much sums it up in this little clip:

EDIT: OK... Why isn't the video player working for me?
