Writers' Workshop General Chat Thread

Welcoem back @Gama! It's great to see you back again - feels like decades since you were last around. And just in time to help judge the awards ;) :p

It feels like that for me too! And it's great to see you too! Glad to see you're still running a tight ship around here.

Don't think I'll be mucking in with modding this time though (whether or not I would be wanted!) - you guys have done a bit too well at showing what a good job you're doing at running this place without me!

I try my best :p And no need to be a mod in order to judge, but you might want to settle back in for a bit before we throw you in the deep end - maybe in December I'll rope you in to the next round XD

The Mama himself! Was just thinking about you the other day, actually. Glad to see you back!

That awesome feeling when you come back from several hiatuses and write a whole chapter in one day. Yup, awesome. And not all that long after finally updating Zelda: The Ancient Power too!

Ahhh, I'm still waiting for that to kick in. I dunno if my situation I'd call a "hiatus" as much as I'd consider it a weird kind of time constraint. I do try to keep up and keep in touch (and even judge for awards!), but I just feel kind of distant with my only intermittent appearances. My available time is so limited that have to really be awesome/badass with my time management skills to make any sort of progress. I know its not impossible, if anything, this shipboard life has really made me develop time management skills, and I've written whole chapters and marathon-read huge stories during my worst weeks work-time-wise (last August comes to mind, when I read Acetrainer's 8 easy steps over the course of one week).

At least on the shipboard life thing, things may be looking up in that regard. I'm currently in the application process for a Specialist Stagehand position at this place. Prospects are looking pretty good: I used to intern for this company in my college years and did a little work for them before, they know me and like me, and my contacts there informed me that they're a little bit desperate for skilled/knowledgeable bodies. This means, if things go the way I would like to, I won't be trapped aboard a cruse ship all the time. I'd instead switch back and forth between actual real stagehandling during the production season, and hop back aboard for cruise ship work during the off-season, which is something the cruise line company has done and does do for many of their technicians. (fingers crossed!)

That used to be my sole method of writing, lol. I'd not work on the story for weeks at a time, then a sudden burst of "I miss this story wow" would come in and I'd write a whole chapter in a day. I've found it kind of interesting that the chapter's tone and flow is easier to maintain if you write it in one sitting, though the writing itself may seem rushed that way. Now that I try to write every day, or every other day at least, it's harder to maintain tone and flow.

Yeah, I don't like to go too long without writing something myself. I feel like I'll totally forget all the ideas I have in mind. I can come up with them, but transferring them to actual writing can be hard sometimes.

Huh, I don't feel nervous at all. I actually feel excited because I can't wait to see how much people might enjoy the new chapter. :p So 1/10, I guess?

Now that I look at the chapter I put up for Super Luigi though, it's a tad rushed, I think... Not really rushed, but a little bit. I could've added a bit more in there to flesh some of the events out a bit more. I'll have to do that sometime soon.
