X-Men: Mutant Academy

RPG by Ledian_X and Samchu

Fearing the rise of anti-mutant hysteria, Professor Charles Xaiver has formed the X-Men to protect a world that fears and hates them. The X-Men take on new mutants every year to train in the use of their powers and even help the X-Men in their mission. Along the way, they'd encounter other denziens of the Marvel Universe such as the Fantastic Four, the Avengers and Spider-Man. Of course even the bad guys will show up.

Setting:

The fall semester has come here at the Xaiver Institute for Higher Learning. My name's Bobby Drake aka Iceman. After my girlfriend Sara came to the mansion, we've been getting more and more students here. As one of the original X-Men it's my job to coach the kids and help them out from time to time.

Since Sara came to the school, we've had to deal with the Shadow King and various other threats. Luckily, we pulled through and somehow managed to survive. Course with these new kids running around who knew what was next for Prof X's older students and the New Mutants coming in. So, Sara and I basically had to look after a new team.

My sign up:

Name: Robert Drake
Code Name: Iceman
Age: Mid 20s
Gender: male
Powers: Absorbing ambient moisture and converting it to ice. Can create ice slides and weapons as well as coat self in ice.
Mutant: Yeah
Appearance: Brown hair, light skin, about 5 foot 9 and in good shape. In his ice form, Blue-white
Personality: He's a joker but he can be serious when he wants to.
Attributes: ice form can get bulkier and spikey.
Relationships: Currently dating Sara, has a mother and father on Long Island, NY.
Uniform: light blue bodysuit, black overshirt forming an X, red belt with an X in a circle, black gloves and boots. Only the belt is visible from his costume in ice form.
Other: He's a great piolet and can be a good leader with advice from Cyclops
History: See Marvel.Com for details but..

Bobby is one of the orignal X-Men gathered by Professor Xaiver. The others being Cyclops, Phoenix, Angel and Beast. Over the years the group grew in members and one day fellow X-Man, Gambit found a girl with a collar in New Orleans. She ran away from a lab whose organization wanted to create a mutant that could wipe out the mutant and non mutant heroes.

She came to the mansion and met Bobby and fell in love. He and the others helped the girl Sara to control her powers and now Professor X wanted Bobby to help teach new recruits about powers they have and help in any way possible.

Fall was here and a new class of students just arrived at the mansion. I wasn't sure what to make of the new group as I saw them enter and hung out in the foyer. The professer wanted Sara and I to assist the students the same way Scott and Jean had their own special groups. We were opening our doors to more students and I couldn't help but remember my first day here ten years ago. Back then I was basically a snowman. Speaking of which..that gave me an idea. I snuck out of the room and headed toward one of the classrooms.

" This going to be a blast." I smirked and heard the distinct "Bamfing" noise and smell of sulfur and brimstone of one Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler. He was the definition of mutant. Dark blue fur, three fingers on each hand, yellow eyes, pointed ears, three toes and a long devil-like tail.

"Shouldn't you be outside with the Professor?" Kurt asked.

"Yeah." I nodded. "But, don't worry Fuzzy Elf. I'm going to give these students a little surprise."

The German-born mutant smiled. "Vell, I'm sure you and Sara vill show zem ze ropes, nicth warr."

" Yup." I nodded. " Now Scoot before my surprise is ruined."

Kurt shook his head and teleported away. "This was gonna be good.."

Professor Xaiver:

A new semester starting with more students. The more mutants I helped, the better things would be for humanity and mutantkind. Everyone needed to work together for a brighter future. The new students were assembling in the foyer of my mansion and I came out of my study to greet them.

" Welcome to the Xaiver Institute of Higher Learning. " I wheeled up to the assembled students and smiled warmly. " As I'm sure you're aware, this school will assist you all in the development of your powers as well as training you to defend yourselves for this school does have another purpose."

Several of my other students appeared. Scott Summers, Ororo Munroe and one of our newest X-Men, Sara.

" Welcome to Xaiver Institute." Scott looked at everyone through his ruby quartz glasses which held his uncontrollable optic blasts. "This facility, like the Professor said serves as a school for mutants and as a base for the X-Men."

"We X-Men fight for a world where humans and mutants live in harmony with each other as that is Professor Xaiver's dream." Ororo added. "Some of us X-Men are enforcing the dream by working with the federal government."

Ororo's white hair glistened as the sunlight came in from the windows. I supposed she made it a nice day out as she does control the weather. I noticed Sara was here but I did not see Bobby. I did sense that he was in the building.

"Sara.."I said mentally. "Bobby is in classroom A."

"Alright, Professor. I was wondering where the Snowman was." Sara replied mentally.

My newset student, Sara stepped up and started to speak.

" Professor Xaiver has trusted myself and Bobby Drake aka Iceman with training you all. And if push comes to shove, we'd have missions to go on." Sara chimed in. "If you guys would follow me, we can get to introducing each other, which the Professor would want."

Sara walked the groups to one of the classrooms here on the first floor. Bobby would more than likely show them the Danger Room and the other areas of the estate. Scott, Ororo and I watched as Sara led the group. It wasn't long ago that Remy found her and Bobby helped her with her powers and outlook on life. This was Bobby's reward for helping Sara through a very hard time.
***************
Bobby:

I saw Sara walking and I quickly became a snowman, complete with carrot and a tophat. I made sure none of my human features showed through. Sara noticed me and smiled as she came over. She was so beautiful in her uniform. But then, everything she wore was she so great on her.

"There you are, Snowman." she whispered. "Really taking things literally."

The other students looked at her like she had two heads.

"Time to come out I guess." I soldified my ice form and became humanoid and then de-iced. The students gasped a bit.

"Welcome to the X-Mansion." I looked at the students. "Here you gotta expect the unexpected. But, first we really should get to know each other and after, well..I figured I could show you where we train."

"Think they'd be ready?" Sara asked.

"Sure." I replied. "The first thing you guys shold see is the Danger Room. But first, Any questions from any of you? We should get to know each other. I'm one of the Prof's first students. You probably met Scott. He's usually our fearless leader and so is Ororo and Scott's brother Alex."

We had three teams of X-Men and two teams of students these students age. What was one more? We were going to help all of them. This group of new mutants seemed interested in the mansion and in everything else. Time will tell when we see how good these New Mutants were going to be.

~|~@ Julia @~|~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia De Mauro, thats who I am. I am a reserved person, and I have reason. My intelligence outshines most of my classmater, yet I stick to myself, perhaps that is why?
Why was I so special? Perhaps it was my powers. I could control light, I was, in effect, Light myself. I could raise my brightness, break into seven different color clones, launch light waves, and pass through transparent objects.
Perhaps I was so reserved because I was different. PErhaps I was so intelligent and athletic, because of my powers. I mean, I was one of the top soccer players at my school. Did I travel at the speed of light? No, that was obvious, but I was faster than most.
Then came my invitation to attend the Xavier institute.
At first, I was hesitant. Can there really be a school with people...like me? People with powers of their own, each as dangerous as the next, yet each as friendly? I set it aside and continued my regular studies and athletics. Every day, upon my return home, the letter seemed to flash at me from my armoir.
It wasnt just in my mind was it? but there seemed to be some kind of...light eminating from it, some presence that kept bringing my eyes upon it.
So, after careful review in my mind, I decided it wouldnt be so bad, at least to give it a try.
I brought the topic to my parents. Their original reaction was identical to my own...hesitant. I never mentioned to them that this was a...mutant academy. Had I saiud so, they probably wouldnt have agreed. They really liked the school I was at and my position in it. Plus, they werent exactly...fans of mutants. They never really cared for my powers, what would happen if I went to a school that...endorsed them?
I debated the topic with them for a while, and finally they agreed.
So it was that I came to be here, standing at the entrance to the Xavier institute with a group of fellow...mutants.
" Welcome to the Xaiver Institute of Higher Learning. " said a bald headed man in a wheelchair. I assumed he was our "headmaster."
" As I'm sure you're aware, this school will assist you all in the development of your powers as well as training you to defend yourselves for this school does have another purpose."
Defense? Was that really what we needed to learn?
We were introduced to several other mutants. They looked just like normal people, really nice...especially Miss Munroe, I felt like I could relate with her.
We were led off by a girl, named sarah, and soon ran into a snowman. This...snowman, truned out to be a ,mutant as well, Bobby, or Iceman as he was called.
He suggested that we first see the Danger Room. "How exciting," I thought to myself.
Before we went in however, we were circled in a group and asked if we had any questions. They also suggested that we get to know each other.
Bobby then proceeded to ask each of us a little about ourselves. Much to my dismay, he turned to me first. I immediately blushed, which, for a redhead is not hard to notice at all.
"Well, my name is Julia De Mauro, im seventeen, and I call myself white light."
The introductions had begun.
Mewtwo D2
Name: Katharine Leigh Monroe (Katie Leigh)
Code Name: Belle Reve
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Powers: Able to see the astral projections of sleeping people. She calls these projections 'Dreamers' and can speak and interact with them, which they may or may not remember upon waking. In her own sleep, she retains control over her astral body as it passes through the Dreamworld- an alternate reality overlayed on Earth. However, she can not control where her astral body is sent- she can merely make an existing dream lucid, or influence the dream of another. In extreme stress, her astral body splits into three parts- good, evil, and neutral.
Mutant: Yes
Appearance: Katie has long, unruly black hair and light eyes the color of green tea. She has a very petite frame, barely scraping 5'0'' tall. Her features are rather sharp, almost elven, and her bearing is proud. Her taste in clothes runs towards the more formal and elegant.
Personality: She's proud and likes to retain her dignity, preferring not to mix in group banter. She's giving and caring, but slightly cool and rarely seems to invest emotional attachments in her actions. Often seems slightly distracted as a result of seeing astral projections everywhere.
Attributes: Is not a fighter at all. She knows basic self-defense, but she firmly believes her place is far away from physical combat. Her power is better suited to information gathering than it is to close-range fighting, which she accepts and is proud of.
Relationships: None so far.
Uniform: Full black bodysuit with long sleeves and a high collar, with a small frill of black cloth at the neck and mitts that attach to her middle fingers. She wears high black boots and has a white X on each shoulder.
History: Katie was born to an upper class family in the American South in their ancestral country home. Her father was a doctor and her mother a chef, which made the family wealthy but interaction between family members scarce. As such, Katie was raised mostly by a governess who instilled a sense of noblesse oblige in her. Both her parents had come from wealthy families, so it was many years before she realized that there was another world not born of wealth and privelege. Her mutant powers began manifesting at the age of 13 with her beginning to see people who others could not. Her parents grew alarmed when they saw her conversing animatedly with what appeared to be empty air and telling them of strange travels she had taken at night. It would be nearly impossible to wake her, then she wouldn't sleep for days at a time. She was sent for psychiatric evalution and was committed to a mental hospital at the age of 15. Other patients began to talk of the strange girl who would dart in and out of their dreams and Katie was able to tell more details of others than she possibly could have knowledge of. The doctors were mystified and tried putting her on various drugs. This simply made the symptoms worse, as the drugs made her dream body split into three seperate beings- one purely good, one purely evil, and one purely neutral. Sometimes a body wouldn't return when she woke, changing her personality drastically. She discovered that with strong applications of will in dreams, she could influence the outside world, which made each astral body try their best to escape her control. She was given more drugs to keep her awake and put under constant survellaince. She was giving up hope of ever returning to a semblence of normality when an expert on mutation, Charles Xavier, came and inspected her. He declared her to simply be a mutant, not insane. However, the damage to her psyche was so severe she had to be sent to Muir Island's Mutant Research Center to convalesce along with other potentially dangerous mutants. She has lived there for the past three years, learning to control her powers and consolidating the three astral bodies she possesses into one with her personality.
Other: Her three astral projections are named Reverie (Good), Abaddon (Evil), and Fata Morgana (Neutral). Currently, she has enough control over them that they all appear to be her
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here I was, finally. For three long years, I had been on Muir Island, trying to bring my dreamers under control. When they had first brought me, I had been put in maximum security, my powers temporarily cut off to allow me a chance to rest. I had spent six months that way, doing small exercises with Dr. MacTaggert once a week. Slowly, she had begun to give me a grip on my powers, reassuring me that I was not crazy. I had thought I was cured when a heavy training session sent all three of my dreamers out of control, Abaddon taking control of my body and Fata Morgana trying to escape my control all together. Eventually all were subdued, but we were back to square one. Only two months ago had she deemed me well enough to attend Xavier's school. I had to admit that I was slightly nervous about my control slipping and my dreamers wreaking havoc. Then again, there would be time to worry about that later. Idly, I wondered if I had ever met the dreamers of the other new X-men. After all, astral bodies didn't always look like their source. And it was how I had met Professor Xavier in the first place...

Jamey
Name: Rick "Tank" Caldwell

Code Name: Amplitude (or Amp)

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Powers: Able to manipulate and control sound with his hands. For instance, snapping fingers and creating a sonic boom, line of sight sonic attack (similar to cyborg's sonic beam), snapping fingers and causing materials to reverberate and weaken/crumble. Can also act as an amplifier for his guitar.

Weaknesses: due to nature of power, allies may be in some danger if a powerful area affect is used. Power cannot be used in a vacuum, unless his fingers make contact with another surface as he snaps them, in which case only that surface is affected. Due to the multitonal nature of voice, he cannot modify voice or incorporate voices as part of his attacks.

Mutant?: yes.

Appearance: About 6'0", lean. Wears sunglasses with shatterproof polycarbonate plastic lenses. Goes for the quasi-punk indie fashion look.

Personality: Type A personality all the way. Always wants to be in control of the situation. This isn't always a bad thing, as Tank is very adaptable and tends to keep calm under pressure. Sometimes, though, Tank acts without thinking things through or lets his temper get the better of him.

Attributes: Intelligent, witty, charismatic, easy to love, easy to hate.

Relationships: Not many close ones. Or at least, not that he talks about.

Uniform: Plainclothes; indie/punk rock look, guitar on back

Other: plays gigs on the side for a fairly well-known local band. Picked up the nickname tank during high school football. Originally meant as a joke against his narrow frame, the name stuck after he became the lead defensive tackle.

History: Doesn't talk about it. All that's known is that he grew up in a small town, people found out he was a mutant, he was kicked out.

----
[Manhattan, New York. Some random bar.]
The crowd applauded as I finished the solo and held the guitar up into the air. The sweat dripped from my forehead, the lights burnt the image forever into my memories. My first big show. I threw the horns up to the crowd, I don't even remember what I yelled, it was all in a haze. I walked backstage.
"Rick, I've been waiting to talk to you," came a dignified voice from behind me.
"You from Rolling Stone? I'll give an interview, but it's not going to be free," I said, hoping to line my pockets.
"No, no," chuckled the man, whom I had turned to face. "I've come to take you to school."
"School?" I noticed, pulling my eyes away, that he wasn't sitting; but was instead in a wheelchair. "I left that life a while ago. I'm a musician now."
"You can return to that life, in a place you'll be welcomed," he said.
I felt a tug on my shoulder and realized that if I hadn't had my stap on, my guitar would've been in more pieces than it should be. His words hit home.
"You'd like that, wouldn't you?" He said, with a genuine smile.
"What do you know about me? How -- no -- Why do you know it?" I said, forcing the words out of my gut.
"I know that you are gifted. I know that you didn't use an amplifier to play that guitar, and I know what you can do."
"Do you know about the accident?"
"Yes, I know what happened when your powers first came. Applause, to you, is no paltry matter, is it anymore?"
"I'll be accepted?" I said, going back to the part that had caught in my mind.
"Yes, accepted and taught."
"How do you know these things?"
"My name is Charles Xavier, and I also have a gift."
"Alright, Chuck. Take me home."
The man smiled, no youth lost in his age. "Very well, you have much to learn."
------
[Salem Center, NY. Xavier's School.]
"This is Bobby Drake, the Iceman. He will be your teacher," Charles nodded towards the man in question.
"Seems like a cool guy," I said, taking the first joke that came to mind, immediately thinking of something funnier.

Name: Aidan Stafford
Code Name: Eclipse
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Powers: Aidan harnesses the powers of electricity and wind. She can shoot it out of her hands and channel it down into her legs when she's in close combat. She can also act like a magnet or use her powers as a shield when objects are coming her way. She also has the power to use winds in her favor but she is stronger with electricity. She is at her best when heavy winds are around her and can use them to blow others away or create smaller tornados or hurricanes. She can create little breezes from dead air and stronger winds on a breezy day and build off of that but nothing more. Because of her powers, she has the ability to fly
Mutant?: Yes
Appearance: She's about 5'6, slightly tanned and lean, but is good at concealing her muscles. She has dark brown hair cut midway between her chin and shoulders and her eyes are an icy blue/gray. When she's out on the streets as a civilian, she wears a blue t-shirt and stretchy jeans with white sneakers
Personality: Considering her powers and love of fighting, she is a rather calm person. She's not the most sociable person but can be quite talkative when given the chance and despite her calm persona, she has the ability to be rather blunt and sarcastic and can develop a nasty temper
Attributes: Although her powers allow her to attack from afar, Aidan loves hand-to-hand combat and likes to fight in general
Relationships: None yet
Uniform: Black body suit with royalblue crisscrossing lightning bolts. Her belt is black with a royalblue X in a circle
Other: None
History: Aidan grew up with her dad after her mother died from cancer when she was five. Shortly after she passed, Aidan began to develop her powers but luckily never exposed them in public. Although it hurt him to see his wife in Aidan, her father refused to ignore his daughter and her powers. He made sure to keep his daughter's powers a secret and went to great lengths to make sure they were alone when she was training. Right after Aidan finished high school, he sent her to Xavier's to further develop her powers and start getting socially involved with people who wouldn't judge her just by her abilities

Aidan
-------
I looked around in awe as we started the tour of the Xavier Mansion. I personally wished I had learned about the place sooner but if it was open to public knowledge, backlash would most likely ensue and then the war between mutants and the normal people would never end. They'd probably think the institute was harvesting warriors to take control of the government or something and then it would be chaotic. So I guess it was appropriate to get information about the place from the headmaster himself, keep it hush hush and all.

We entered a classroom and the first thing that caught our eyes was a snowman sitting in the middle of the room, seemingly unassuming. Then before we could get used to the odd sight, it transformed into a human, who introduced himself as Bobby Drake, better known as Iceman. While some of the others seemed impressed, I pursed my lips and gave a little nod. It was a nice trick but it was obvious that with no climate control, that snowman never would have survived, hence it being a mutant.

We all gathered in a circle and like summer camp, were forced to talk about ourselves. Bobby pointed at one girl, who flushed but eventually introduced herself as Julia De Mauro, or White Light. She was unwilling to say any more than that so Bobby had to give up and picked a few more people until he pointed at me.
"My name is Aidan Stafford. I'm 18 and I'm majoring in electricity with wind as a minor. I don't exactly have a code name but I guess you can call me Eclipse."
Bobby frowned. "But an eclipse is connected more with darkness, not light, or electricity in your case. That's a complete contradiction."
"Look, I'm not saying anything about your name, which by the way lacks in the originality section," I snapped. "It's either Eclipse or Sparky, and I don't want to be associated with a common dog name."
I looked away from Bobby and fumed, while the rest of the group looked on in stunned silence.
This is the only chance you'll have at a normal life. Don't start it with regrets, my father's voice played over in my head.
"I apologize for being rude and snapping at you." I stared straight at him. "It was neither the time nor the place to overreact."

Aidan looked really annoyed. I wasn't sure what to make of her. First impressions were everything and the next chance I got, I was going to have a chat with her if she acted up again. There was always one in every bunch that has an attitude. Wolverine and Gambit were gonna love this girl...if Wolvie didn't gut her first.

" Apology accepted, Aidan." I replied. I wasn't about to give her any ammo. " Eclispe is a good codename. Besides..all the really cool electric names are taken. "

I exchanged a look with Sara. She shrugged and we finished introducing everyone. It was time to get down to basics and head toward the sub-basements. I wanted to see first hand what this group could do. I was going to give them a basic drone simulation.

" Now that everyone's acquanted with each other, let's get down to the subbasement." I explained. " It's home to the X-Men's War Room, Med-lab, Cerebro and of course the Danger Room. "

" The Danger Room is a holographic evironment created for the school based on alien technology from the..uh.." Sara started and I grinned. She still had trouble remembering everything.

" Shi'ar Empire's princess Lilandra. " I finished. " I basically wanted to see what you all can do and train a bit before we get ready for dinner. You can meet more of the X-Men, then. "

Julia raised her hand. " Umm Bobby..do we have to learn to defend ourselves? "

This was going to take explaining.

" In an idealistic world, Julia, we shouldn't have to." I sighed. " But, there are those out there who hate and fear mutants. So, we need to learn to protect ourselves from them and other mutants who have their own agendas."

Julia seemed to understand and I lead everyone to the sub-basement.

"This is where it happens." I opened the door to the Danger Room and saw a familiar, blue furred friend typing away at the computer. "Big Blue's home away from home. Hank..what are you doing here?"

Hank turned around in his chair and the others could see his massive ape-like appearance and blue fur. Hank, like me was one of the original X-Men.

"Well, Bobby.." Hank grinned. "The ol' Prof wanted me to recalibrate the digital imagizers so that your new friends here wouldn't get harmed if say the safetys were to experience a most unfortunate malfunction."

"I malfunctioned your mom." Rick smirked and pointed his finger. "You could increase dampening here, here, and here. Given the shape of the room, that'll be where acoustics will gather."

I rose my eyebrow. Another wiseass? Did we really need this. I then came up with an idea.

" Okay, Ricky.. " I smirked and placed my hand on his shoulder decreasing the temperature of my hand slightly. "You just volunteered yourself to battle a few drones."

Hank laughed a bit and made a few holographic robots appear in the danger room below us. I was so amazed at all this because I remembered vivdly that this room was just trap doors and stuff.

Mire

[Name]
Lirael Huron
[Code Name]
Scout
[Age]
Twenty
[Gender]
Female

[Power]

Lirael can meditate to receive a mental picture of the surrounding area for up to half a kilometer, less clear as the area grows larger, or can even leave her body entirely and ignore physical objects in ethereal form. She can find the world location of anyone in her memory or by a picture of a person if their will does not block her scouting, and when entering a new area she instantaneously knows exactly where she is in relation to the world's longitude and latitude. Scout can empower her Sai with ethereal energy. Even out of spirit form she has the ability to fly, though if she goes too far it will tire her as ground travel would, and when in the air can see for miles like an eagle. Her other senses are just as acute as she can use smell and sound to find her way around in a dark room, or can immediatly taste if something is poisoned or feel what something is made from by touch. Her increased perception gives her the slightest precognition where she can see two minutes into the future of the area she is in, and can see paint a mental image of things out of her line of vision, giving her an exponential reflex and the ability to get the team out of harm's way if an unblockable danger is coming. Seeing more than thirty seconds into the future requires her to actually concentrate first quickly, and she can only see the future in a confined area of about a mile at most but it becomes foggy as it gets this large. Scout's acute senses to not cause her to be bothered by extreme sound or mental imagery as you would think. She can camoflauge herself also, projecting her mental imagery of the environment onto her body to make it seem like she's part of it, essentially invisible except a slight shimmer in the air if moving fast. If forced to use her power repeatedly she tends to get bad headaches that hinder her concentration and if focused on something it becomes harder for her to reflexively dodge things that she is not concentrating on directly.

[Mutant]
Definitely.
[Appearance]
Scout is thin and hides her lean muscle well on her six foot high build with a pale, clear complexion. Her obsidian hair is kept down and falls about to her shoulders with long bangs that fall over her right piercing hazel eye in a seductive way. Her crimson lips carry the slightest smirk, but are often showing a mouth full of brillant white teeth in a beautiful smile that sharpens her ironically regal nose and chin. She gives off quite the air of grace and ambidexterity. She's seldom seen without her uniform, but if necessary she'll wear plain white clothes and black jeans appropriate to the weather.

[Personality]
Lirael's perception of the world isn't limited to just physical objects, but her mental accuracy and ability is something else to be heralded. She has a vast knowledge of geography, weapons, and many other fields and is known to pick up how to use something on the spot. Scout's mind is keen and with a high potential, she can be clever and sly and has quite the wisdom beneath that warm laugh and happy disposition. She isn't much of a talker, but is always there to cheer others up. Scout's a very self-directed person towards improving herself and is also extremely self-dependent. She deal with her own problems and does not share them with others unless asked, making her a little closed, but she obviously does this well due to her outward display of joy. Lirael is calm in all situations and serves as a mediator in disputes, and usually knows the right course of action. She's a creative thinker and even a little quirky at times, and though she does have a calm attitude, her moods can be unpredictable and her voice has just the slightest sinister undertone. She's naturally charismatic which makes for a decent ability to lead, but she can also be seductive if necessary.

[Attributes]
Strongly educated in the uses of weaponry due to her family's mercenary heritage, and an amazing unarmed fighter employing a number of styles from karate to grappling. Having no real offensive mutant ability, she usually has a sai hilted on her uniform's belt to dispense or reluctant or homicidal baddies, otherwise choosing to bludgeon them out of consciousness. Scout is quite the silent one, with her increased perception and reflective camoflauge comes the ability to be extremely stealthy when need be, and is often chosen to get to those hard to reach places.

[Relationships]
She isn't in any as of now, but she's open to someone that has her own witty personality. She has no idea what happened to her birth parents, and hardly cares, but desires to find her nursemaid who should only be about fifty.

[Uniform]

Scout's uniform is simply a skintight black catsuit as a thief might wear, with a belt around her waist to carry her unsheathed sai and with a miniscule "X" buckle in dark gray.

[History]

She was raised in a family of assassins and thieves that had recently moved to communist China illegally to operate where there was a large market for "shady dealings" and it was here that Lirael was born. Her parents weren't exactly a positive influence on her, so Lirael was raised by her nursemaid which instilled some more positive ideas in her. At the age of five, however, her father saw her potential as an assassin and thief and traded her as if she was an object to one of his business partners. In her new home she was given little generosity, but clung to the memories of her nursemaid which kept her from turning to a life of thievery and murder as her parents had, and received daily lessons in unarmed combat and sai combat. China being the original country where the Sai was birthed as well as various hand-to-hand fighting styles, and her father's vast fortune, it was easy for her to get the best training. Her mutant power first manifested simply in her amazing agility, her guardians having to continually get a new trainer because she already exhausted the knowledge of the latest one, until there simply weren't any more. Though not truly skilled yet in the styles, she knew enough and with the help of her ever-growing intellect was able to fill in the gaps and become quite the thief and assassin. She was twelve.

Her prodigal ability and her all-too-keen senses got her noticed by two wealthy thieves who purchased her again from her guardians for a great sum, and set her to work toppling the government of China one assassination at a time. Just before the launching of a likely successful first mission, her new guardians were discovered by the local police force and soon they had a myriad of different law agencies on their tail. Forced to flee with them, her and her guardians traveled to the United States as fugitives and took on new identities as illegal aliens.

Lately, in secret, Lirael had been becoming more attuned to the power within her and had discovered her ability to fly. She often went on midnight romps during this time, testing the limits of her flight and silently entering her room again in her reflective camoflauge. It wasn't until a certain episode, though, that she really discovered her power's potential.

For six years her guardians operated from the United States, smuggling and using her to steal priceless artifacts, but they were forced to deliver some goods that they hadn't wished to. Lirael's precognition first manifested during this, on the small plane with her guardians she saw the missiles coming two minutes before due to her sleeping at the time, effectively concentrating. She woke to a start and tryed to wake her guardians to land or something but they refused to listen, thinking her crazy and pushing her back into the cargo hold where she had been seated. She regrets not be able to save them to this day (her two male guardians would have weighed her down too much to fly) but she was forced to open the door and jump from the plane just as the missiles appeared on the radar.

Using her power she managed a safe landing, but she had stranded herself in the Altay Mountains North of Beijing. Here she first discovered her power to sense her location, as she immediatly knew she was in these mountains and how far she was from Beijing even though she had never been there. Unsure of where to go, she found herself wishing she knew which direction Beijing was, cold and hungry. She closed her eyes and wished this, and upon doing so discovered she could leave her body in spirit form. Lirael soon took hold of her power, finding there was a road leading straight to Beijing some twenty miles Southeast. She left her mentally entranced state and proceeded to turn in the straightest possible line to that point, cloaked herself, and then flew at a startling speed of sixty miles per hour to reach the road. She was tired, but feared getting a ride from hitchhikers, so she slowly made her way to Beijing over a period of days. Flying on and off and resting and stealing to maintain her strength. During this trip she made the mistake of stealing from a mutant of the academy on a reconaissance mission, ironic because she would become the best agent of that type on her admission, and the mutant promptly drove her to Beijing and set her on a plane to meet Professor Moira of the Eastern Branch of Xavier's school.

She hasn't been formally taught, but was effectively homeschooled, and so her teachings consist of mostly just learning more about her powers with help of Xavier and other mutants. May 20th is the two year anniversary of her admission to the Eastern academy, though just transferred to the States. By now, she's a bit more of a senior member than the other mutants of her team, giving her a larger reign over them. She prefers to be called Scout at all times now as an effective way to prevent herself from reminiscing too much on the past.

[Other]
She tends to drink tea with lemon, and has a small obsessive-compulsive problem with symmetry. An aggressive environmentalist and anticonsumerist (though not fanatical), Scout often makes polite comments if someone is wasting resources or buying unnecessary things, her having an infinitesimal number of possessions compared to most. A persistent quirk, Scout is also a slight hypochondriac.

=Scout=

The snowman trick was cheap. Iceman certainly could do better than that, or at least that was my guess of who he was. I had all the mutant profiles down, photographic memories do wonders like that. It was valuable to learn them when you've just transferred here from the East "precinct" of Professor Xavier's academy. It wasn't quite as large as this, but the old wiseman had realized it was difficult finding all those mutants in foreign countries. That would be where we came in, commonly called the reconaissance branch.

I was impressed of the academy, to say the least, and the new students coming in looked promising. I thought about promptly introducing myself to Iceman, but he covorted down to the basement before I got the chance, I was late anyway. Oh well, I'd break the ice somewhere else. They were all my colleagues anyway, might as well get used to all these "recruits."

With a warm smile I offered my hand to the nearest young woman as we walked; hair not unlike my own and a distant look were interesting. That far-off outlook might give the promise of a keen mind, or maybe she was just quiet.

As my hand neared her's I found myself tapping it a little before she responded, her eyes weren't on my face but just to the left of me with a vapid gaze. Her head was tilted in curiosity and I resisted looking over to see just what was so interesting about my shoulder. As I forcibly shook her hand she came back a little and returned my warm smile, "Nice to meet you, Scout." The smile quickly evaporated into a straight, prim line, and she returned cooly, "Katie Leigh, glad to meet you also. Is Scout your real name?"

I disliked when people asked that, it made me remember what I had been... I kept my composure and hastily smothered her with an overbearing smile and, "No, I just prefer that, thank you."

This time I found myself looking over to her left, as we both had just missed part of the quips between Iceman, Rick, and Hank, or more accurately beast. Katie showed a slight start at Hank's odd form, but I didn't really care. My attention was focused on Aidan, who had just dropped a small piece of paper she pulled from her pocket. Next to Hank's desk there was a recycling bin, and just as she unclasped her hand to drop it I dove.

In a scene reminiscent of the slow motion movies where people drop valuable objects I had darted under the paper yelling, "No!" and scooped it up, transferring it to the recycling bin. I gave a sigh of relief and turned to a group full of apalled expressions. Iceman raised an eyebrow, and I attempted a save. "Hello everyone," I smiled through the awkwardness, "Scout." Nice Lirael, I scolded myself in my old name just to let my overactive environmentalist attitude problem sink in. Smooth, Lirael. Smooth.

I couldn't take it, and before anyone else did, I reeled and laughed at my own slow motion performance. My snorting chortle did not do much to pierce the silence.

[Salem Center, NY. Xavier's School: Danger Room.]
I smiled and put my sunglasses on, my face belying the brick I was about to shit. The thoughts ran through my head in droves.
"What's the problem, got cold feet?" Iceman snickered.
"Cold, man. Cold," I said, tilting my head towards the blue furry guy. "Hey, blue furry guy,"
"That's Hank," said the blue furry guy.
"Let me at the robots and hold this," I tossed my guitar at him, not expecting him to catch it with his feet.
Great, I thought. That was cool and all, but now there's foot on my guitar.
Hank and Bobby whispered to each other, Hank nodded and the door opened. I walked into the empty room.

I quickly analyzed the shape of the room - looking at all of the corners and protrusions. I snapped my fingers, a sort of echolocation, to see if I was right about which points would gather acoustics. Turns out I was a couple feet off on one of them. I'd have to watch out for that in the future.
"You ready?" I heard Iceman's voice. "Not that it matters."

The drones began to move towards me, seeming to analyze me as they closed in. I cupped one hand around the other and snapped my fingers, creating a concentrated sonic beam. THUUUUM One droid down. The others, analyzing this information began to work together, creating an attack pattern. I smacked my hands against the ground, creating a sonic blast strong enough to throw me up about ten feet in the air and clapped again, throwing me into the wall. I caught on to one of the protrusions - barely - and scrabbled up, noticing that one of the sensitive areas was about two feet to my left. I looked across the room when suddenly my balance shifted - the tip of the protrusion glowing a smoky red. "Oh fu--!" I didn't have time to finish the word, I snapped my fingers and jumped, the sonic wave travelling across the room and catching the senstive area, buffeting me into the group of drones. I smacked my hand against one, creating a hollow TONGGGGG noise, shattering the drone and softening my fall.

That's great, I thought. One down, a helluva lot more to go.

I dispatched two others in the same way, but as I came to the third, a ball of blue goo shot from its arm and enveloped my left hand.

Damnit! I thought, falling back on my football days. I gave the foremost drone a nice shoulder uppercut, and sent a sonic wave at an approaching drone with my remaining hand. I stopped to catch my breath, realizing that I may have bitten off more than I could chew. I caught a drone that was about to hit me, and threw it into another, when I heard a solid THUNK. I turned behind me to see a drone hitting a wall of ice - and another three frozen in place. The drones disappeared, leaving only Iceman.

"Maybe now you'll think before you talk," he smirked with his arms crossed.
I opened my mouth, promptly shut it and flicked some goo at Iceman.
"It was impressive, I'll give you that. You were almost up to a two."
"Is that good?" I asked, panting and wiping the goo on my pants.
"It's one higher than sucking." Iceman smirked.
"How many do you do?" I asked, finally removing the goo.
"Enough that you'd have to use your toes to count," he retorted.

Alex and Rick were going to be a lot of work. They seemed okay but they needed to tone down their need to showboat. If they were going to survive, they needed to train more. They did a decent job but more practice was needed. One student though didn't need as much practice. That was Lirael Huron aka Scout.

I heard about her from the Prof. Moira worked with her for years so she was great with her control now. I wondered why she stopped Aidan from littering. I decided to strike up a conversation with her while Sara was talking to the ladies on the team about training. It was their turn next after all.

"Hey, Scout." I smiled. "How are-"

"Yo, I said.."Where can I get some beef jerky?" Alex asked.

I looked at Alex in the eyes.

"Dinner's going to be in a little while. You want a snack? Go up to the kitchen and get something. I think Gambit's up there, too." I explained.

Alex nodded and went on his way back upstairs.

"Interesting group." Hank smirked. as he held Tank's guitar. "Oh..I do believe this is your axe. I will also take into your account the suggestions."

Tank took the guitar back and had a disgusted look on his face. I figured he didn't like the smell of feet. I smiled as he took a rag and wiped the footprints off. Tank was going to be interesting. It seemed he liked to rock and roll. Part of me wanted to have him put on a concert here at the mansion just to hear him play.

"Anyway, Scout." I started. " Since you've been assisted by Moira, I bet all this is old news to you. Either way, welcome to the New York school."

Scout nodded. She seemed a little shy but that was okay.

"So.." I started. "Anyone else want a crack at the Danger Room?"

Sara looked really at ease talking to the others. She talked to a few of the students and then to Hank about some stuff. I wondered if she was going to go in the Danger Room. I knew she didn't like to use her powers but she needed encouragement in case she needed to use them. She's done well in practice sessions alone and with me. She's come a long way since her arrival here months ago.

I finsihed explaining to the girls about some of the training methods used here at Xavier's and they seemed to enjoy the boys proving that they weren't as hot as they thought you were.
"The training regime here can seem very intense at first but we never ask anyone to do anything that is beyond their limitations at that time. We will, however, enourage each and every one of you to try and push back those limitations so that you might better preapre yourselves for the dangers out there and perhaps even evolve your powers."
I looked over at Bobby and saw that he was giving me one of his 'you gonna give it a go?' looks. I merely shook my head and walked over to him calmly.

"You not going in?" he asked.
"No. I don't wanna show you up."
Bobby laughed, "what are you talking about?"
"I've been doing some late-night training of my own and..." I leaned in and whispered to him. "...and last night I snuck in and took out three sentinels."
Bobby's eyes grew wide and his jaw hung open slightly as I merely grinned.
"Quite a few hotshots in your group isn't there Bobby? Think you can handle them?"
Bobby smirked, "of course I can."
I turned to my group and presented the question of who would like to volunteer. I can't remember who voluntered but they stepped into the danger room quickly.

I stood beside Hank and noted the mini calendar in the bottom corner of the screen. My heart skipped a beat.
"Hank? That isn't today's date is it?"
Hank nodded and set controls on the danger room. I felt myself growing faint, felt the blood draining from my cheeks and fleeing from my lungs.
"What's wrong?" Bobby asked and I pointed to the date with a shaky finger before running out of the room.
Bobby followed soon after and wrapped his arms about me. "Are you okay?"
I shook my head. "I forgot today. How could I forget today? I was so excited about this that I forgot...I shouldn't be here..."
Bobby held me. "I know, I know. But you can't leave your group and neither can I."
"I don't care about the group!" I screamed at him, almost in tears. "I care about her! I care that I forgot the one day I swore I never would!"
Bobby held me close. "I know...We'll go, I promise we'll go see her later today, after all this is done and we can leave." He pulled my hair back behind my ear and kissed my forehead. "Take some time to calm down. I'll see you inside."

I nodded meekly and stood outside composing myself. It was a quicker feat than I had expect. I returned to the danger room shortly after, just in time to see the first of my group show her worth.

The baby's birthday? Had he lived, the baby would have been named Hank, after my best friend, Hank of course. His existance was a strange story. What happened was that I was secretly abducted by a group calling itself Terra Nova, a group wantning to get rid of all superbeings mutant and otherwise.

I was knocked out and my DNA was implanted in Sara, who was a prisoner there. They then planted false records at one of Mr. Sinister's old bases pointing the finger at him. Sara escaped but the resulting explosion killed the unborn baby.

Sara was supposed to be a weapon to be used on all superheroes. She was the daughter of two of World War II's greatest heroes, Blonde Phanthom and the original Angel. She's a hero now like them and the love of my life.

Their plan backfired as the X-Men and the Avengers stormed their base outside of New Orleans. Who knows what our son would have been capable of? Records from the base indicated that the mutant born of our union would have Alpha mutant capabilities.

" Training session's done for a while." I started. I didn't want to wait and anguish "I...I need to take care of some things. Besides, it's best if you all wander the grounds for a bit and meet the others."

" Bobby? " Hank asked. " It'll be alright. I'll keep watch here. Besides, the ol' Prof'll understand and it is getting close to dinner time."

Good ol' Hank. He was the best friend anyone could have. He and the other X-Men were great friends. I wasn't sure what the students would think of the situation. They were so new to the superhero thing that it might scare them.

" Guys..I'm gonna end for a bit." I looked at the students. "Hank can show you some of the other things in here. Don't take this personal or anything but Sara and I need to take care of an issue."

I walked out of the Danger Room observation deck to see Sara aside the wall with her face in her hands. She looked up and her eyes were red. Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat was next to her comforting her along with her small purple dragon, Lockheed.

" Look, here's Bobby." Kitty smiled. "Hey Drake. How are you?"

" I'm fine but how are you, Sara?" I asked as I came up to her. "Class is over, honey. We can go visit the grave."

"Oh, Bobby.." Sara cried as we held each other as we walked outside.

"It'll be okay." I whispered. "The class'll understand. At least I hope they do. I know the Prof will."

We walked outside toward Breakstone Lake, a lake on the property of the Xaiver mansion. We came across a small grave marker and our friend Kurt was there too, praying. It was a bit of a contradiction to see him praying with his devil like appearance.

" The lord is my shepherd. " He muttered. "Thy Kingdom come..thy will be-."

He opened his eyes and saw us.

" Bobby. Sara." He started. " I was expecting you."

I nodded weakly and sat before the grave marker as Kurt said a quiet prayer. Bobby knealed beside me and squeezed my hand, he knew how hard this was for me. Kurt finished his prayer and left us in peace. Not that it made much difference to the situation but the extra privacy was a little comforting.
I sighed deeply. "I'm sorry we're so late today, the professor's had us training some new recruits...just like we were going to do with you." I wiped a tear from my eye. "I can't believe how long it's been since...since you left us..."

I couldn't bring myself to say anymore. The pain was just too overwhelming and I broke down in Bobby's arms. He knew I blamed myself for what happened, of course I did, because it was my fault. If only I had been able to control my powers, Hank would still be alive, he would have at least lived to see one day...I hated myself for that. I was responsible for killing Bobby's son, I was the one who took his son away from him...it still hurts just as much as it did that day...
I could still remember how it felt knowing that there was a living being growing inside of me, that I was carrying a child. We were connected, he depended on me and I failed him. He died because I wasn't strong enough...

"It should have been me..." I sobbed. "It was my fault, all my fault..."
"Don't blame yourself, you did everything you could," Bobby tried to soothe me.
It wasn't enough.
"Did I? Did I really? Couldn't I have done something else? Trained that little bit harder, had just that extra bit of control...i even forgot his birthday...I'm a terrible mother."
"No you're not and if only Hank were alive then you would see it too."
I hugged him for support and reached into my pocket. "Hank used to like playing with these when he was younger..." I said quietly. "I thought you might like them too baby..." and I placed a small toy car upon the grave.

In my dreams I would imagine how life would be if Hank was alive...he looked like Bobby but he had my eyes and my smile. We'd have picnics by the lake and trips to the park...all that family stuff I never had. He would be happy and I would always know how to make him smile, and Bobby would always make him laugh...
Then I would wake up and none of it would be real.
I turned to Bobby, "do you want to say something Bobby?"

Outlaw

Name: Kip Jude
Code Name: Gargoyle
Age: 16
Gender: male
Powers: Kip has above average strength and agility. He also is gifted with large leathery bat-like wings that grant him superb gliding ability but only limited true flight. His skin is also as hard as stone, though only his skin which makes him resilient to blades more than most but no more resistant to impact than anyone else (it's just that someone hitting him is liable to hurt themselves while hurting Kip). Kip also has the ability to regenerate wounds at a greatly accelerated rate but only by going into a deep sleep which leaves him completely vulnerable until his wounds are completely healed, at which point he'd wake up. Lastly, his hands and feet are almost clawlike and his fingers are pointed and toes clawed allowing him to grip into concrete or even metal.
Mutant?: yes
Appearance: Kip stands at 5'10" but is probably really closer to 6'4". His legs are haunched almost as though they were part man and part beast and his posture is hunched just slightly. His knees and elbows are very sharp, almost but not quite as if bone were protruding from them. His body is very slender and yet very tight with muscle. Kip's skin is a dull grayish orange in color. His face is very angular and his jaw draws up and back at the sides making his face look somewhat beak-like. His ears are pointed and the line from his jaw protrudes into a pair of horns approximately three inches in length towards the top back of his head. His long hair, which is a murky black, is tied back in a warrior's braid. He has a long lizard-like tail that is almost as strong as his arms. He wears only an old tattered pair of faded black pants, but when he is walking it is not uncommon for him to fold his wings down and use the hooks from the apex of his wings to clasp them together like a cloak. The back of his wings are black so in this position it truly does look as though he was wearing a cloak unless you inspect very closely.
Personality: On the surface he is a very shy and angry teenager. Really though he is just very lonely and sad. He goes to great lengths to hide his true feelings from others to protect himself. He shows a special resentment towards mutants who look normal.
Attributes: He's a natural born fighter. He has no formal training but lots of experience on the streets and he has a real instinct for combat. He can close the gap fast with his wings and strike hard.
Relationships: none yet.
Uniform: He doens't have one. At least not yet.
History: Kip was found abandoned on the steps of the Sister Mary Orphanage when he was a baby. The name Kip was written on a tag tied to the basket he was in so the nuns named him Kip Jude, for St Jude the patron Saint of lost causes. Even as an infant it was clear to see he was a mutant. The nuns tried to raise him seperately from the other orphans but a group of the other kids broke into his room one day while playing when he was six. They were instantly afraid of him so they pelted him with anything that was at hand. He ran away from the orphanage later that night and took to the streets. He ended up in an abandoned subway station a few days later, half starved and weak. The morlocks came upon him and took him in. They accepted him without question but even among the morlocks he looked like a freak. None of them made any kind of deal of it but not many made an effort to get to know him either. Even among the morlocks he never really fit in. He spent several years surviving on the outskirts of morlock society. He's gotten into countless scraps with some of the meaner morlocks and with thugs who happened upon him while he was on the surface scrounging for food. A few months ago he got into a bad arguement with one of the morlock leaders over his being seen by a police officer while he was topside that led to a few blows being exchanged. He left the morlocks then and has been living on his own in the shadows for the past several months. At present a mutant matching his description is wanted in connection to several minor grocery store thefts.
Other: He is not a student or resident of the Xabier School as of yet but his misadventures trying to survive on his own the past several months will no doubt have drawn the attention of those who run it. Also, as a side note, he is equally comfortable climbing along the walls as he is walking on the ground.

Kip Jude, commonly called Gargoyle because of his appearance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He clung to the side of the building fiercely, staring down at the dark shadows of the thin alleyway. Sounds from the street echoed into the little darkness he had ducked into to hide. Sirens blared nearby and he could hear the shouting of people and the fast approaching pounding of feet.
"Over there! It ducked into that alleyway!" a nearby voice shouted.
He had been found. He could see three people enter the alley below. They were all brandishing their guns and two of them reached for their flashlights to illuminate the dark alley. Kip only hoped they didn't think to look up.
Unfortunately, they did. Just as the beam of the flashlight arced up in his direction a loud bang could be heard. Followed by another that clanged off of the wall were Kip had been before the light forced him to jump to the opposing wall of the alley?
"What are you doing?" one of the officers shouted while forcing down the gun of the man who had opened fire.
"It's a mutie freak and a thief. You saw that thing too. You think it's comin in quietly Miles?" the trigger happy cop snarled.
Kip used the arguement to his advantage. He dropped down on the cops as they spoke. He pinned one underneath his clawed feet and knocked another over with the force of his fall. He quickly snaked his tail out and it tripped the third cop before he could react.
Noting that two of their guns had been knocked loose he leapt back to the side of the wall. He leapt a few more times, bouncing higher from wall to wall, until he was satisfied he had enough height. Upon the last wall jump he pushed off and out of the alleyway, spreading his impressive wings wide.
He soared effortlessly, making a sharp turn to head down the street. He was making for the nearest subway entrance. There was no chance he was going to lose the cops in broad daylight so he had to get underground. He would try to lose them in the tunnels.
"This is officer Jackson calling for backup," the trigger happy cop snapped into his radio, back in the alley. "The Arnold's Grocer suspect is fleeing southbound on W 23rd and should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. He just attacked three police officers while resisting arrest."
"This isn't right!" Miles said quietly with a deep sadness in his voice.
"That freak didn't even look human, man. Get over it!" Jackson answered testily.
The three officers retrieved their fallen weapons and returned to the street just in time to see their suspect diving into a subway entrance a block down. Two more cops were already following him in. They ran to join the pursuit.
OOC: that should put him in enough trouble to draw the attention of cerebro.....being shot at for stealing a couple days groceries and all.......
The epic battles taking place in the Danger Room were quite fun to watch. Two of our number had fought thus far, Rick and Alex, both faring fair.
"Anyone else want a crack at the Danger Room?" said Alex.
The room was silent. Sara had been talking to Hank, and slowly moved over to Bobby and began talking to him. They seemed surprised as they raised their voices. The words "baby" and "birthday" were heard. They walked out of the room and down the hall.
I wondered, what was going on here. Sara looked a bit young for a baby, though I didnt know anything about her history. I stuck my head out of the door and watched them turn down the hall. "Hmm," i said to myself.
Hank turned to the rest of the class and asked once again, "Anybody else want to take a whack at the drones?"
Though i didnt say anything, I left the door and stepped forward.
"Ah, a female contestant, though not very enthusiastic if I say so myself!"
"Just go," I said in annoyance.
"Very well." He pushed a button releasing 7 drones.
I smirked, this would be easy. I began to focus all of my light energy into my body. Suddenly, I turned completely white. Then, my body split up into 7 differently colored clones. I was the red clone this time(I was always a different clone, so that I couldnt be tracked.)
Myself and my clones then shot waves of color at the robots, sending them back and to the ground. With a little more force, all that was left was a pile of heap.
I walked back to the group with satisfaction, Rick had his mouth hanging open.
Despite my pale and gangly appearence, they now realized I was quite strong.
"Impressive," said Hank.
This had been the first time I had used my powers in quite some time.
[Salem Center, NY. Xavier's School: Danger Room.]
Damn. I realized two things. The first: how powerful she was. I mean, sure, she'll have to learn to control it better, like all of us. And she'd have to learn to refine it.
But the second is what caused my chin to drop.
I never realized how much she looked like her...
The only thing I cried for after I left home.
There might've been an inch or two of difference, and sure, her hair was a shade off, but they could have nearly been twins.
I shook my head, trying to clear a path through it wide enough to think.
You left that life behind, Rick. You don't need to go back to it.
"Seems our resident showboaters are a little surprised, huh?" The blue furry guy smirked.
Have you ever wanted to send a sonic boom at someone for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time?
It wasn't the powers that stunned me, it was the resemblance. And I'll be damned if I let anyone else find out. With that final thought, I pushed the subject from my mind, and congratulated her.
I looked at Sara as we knelt at the gravestone. The smell of Kurt's teleportation was still lingering in the air. Sulfur and Brimstone smelled so bad but I got used to it by now. I looked back at the grave and my eyes welled up a bit. It wasn't Sara's fault or my fault. It was Terra Nova's. They caused all this. However, their plan for every superhuman on Earth failed with Sara's help even if distroying the lab put her in a coma and under the care of the Fantastic Four.
" Hey, Hank. " I tried to smile. " You'd have been the best thing to happen to the mansion but everyone keeps you in their prayers. Your Uncle Hank and you would have had so much fun and you despite not being here, will always be a part of us. We'll never forget you. Mommy and Daddy love you despite how you came to us. We'll never forget you."
Sara and I got up and I gave her a big hug.
" You okay?" I asked as I wiped tears from her face. "Remember, honey it's not your fault. None of us blame you and I love you. And some day, we'll be the best parents in the world."
"I love you, too Snowman." Sara then smiled kissed me as hard as she could.
A second later, we recieved a telepathic call in our heads from the Professor. It was such bad timing that Sara and I sighed a bit. But, like it or not we had a job to do.
"Iceman! Sola!" Xaiver called. " I'm sorry I disturbed you but I have detected a new mutant in midtown Manhatten with Cerebro. You, Sola and Wolverine must find the mutant and bring him here before it's too late!"
"What about the students?" I asked telepathically.
" They're going to have to wait. Beast is gving them a tour of the subbasement now." Prof continued. "They can't go on this mission. Too many people would frighten the teen and he might run off."
" Let's get to the hangar, Bobby." Sara responded. "Wolvie doesn't like being kept waiting."
Sara then looked at the grave and blew a kiss. "Bye, baby."
" You sure? " I asked.
" Positive, Drake. " Sara pecked me on the cheek. "Besides, Jean said to me that every mutant we help out would mean one less supervillian."
That much was true. Of course, some couldn't be helped. We ran back to the mansion and down toward the sub-basement. As I ran, I iced up. Luckily, Sara and I were in our uniforms so we didn't need to change. When I ran though, I still made small crunching noices of ice forming, breaking and reforming. I saw Beast with the students on the way to the hangar.
"Guys, we'll be right back." I started. "With any luck, we'll have a new recruit for you guys to talk to."
Julia, Alex and a couple of the others nodded. I guess they understood. I wasn't totally sure.
"We're sorry about before." Sara called as the door began to shut. "Emergencies like this always happen here at the mansion. We'll be back in a bit!"
Wolverine, Sara and I boarded a small blackbird jet and flew toward Manhatten. Manhatten was the home of many heroes. Specifically the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man to name a few. We approached the city and I could see the Baxter Building, the FF's home and a flaming figure flying into it. It was Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch.
"Speaking of showboating.." I smirked.
"Torch's probably just gettin;' some air." Wolverine aka Logan grunted as he landed the jet in the park under cloak.
" Right so where's Avengers Tower?" I asked. Wolvie was now also a member of the Avengers. I didn't know how he managed to go to both teams so fast.
Logan just sort of muttered a bit as we came out of the jet. He and I sort of had the frienddship where I made wisecracks and he'd just humor me. He had my back and was a good guy. He had hyper senses, healing factor and unbreakable adamantium claws and skeleton.
" Cerebro says the mutant went into the subway near here and is being chased by humans." Logan used a portable Cerebro unit to pinpoint the location. Jean was probably at the mansion using it to guide us and transmitting data to the portable unit.
The three of us ran into the subway and found it to be deserted. There wasn't anyone around so detecting the new mutant would be an easy job. We ran and found an orange gargoyle like creature huddled in a corner. I noticed a mob of people looking confused. As if they were frozen in time. Jean or the Prof must have held them back while the three of us were on our way.
"Go..Go...away...Masque...after me...must...find...Wind Rider..." the creature was too scared to talk really.
"Masque?" I asked. "You talking about the Morlocks? They're in another dimension lead by Colossus's brother Mikhail."
"No..we came back..."the kid seemed scared. He had to have been no older than I was when I first joined the X-Men." We need the Wind Rider..B-Big power struggle"
"Wind Rider?" Logan asked. "You talkin' about Storm?"
"Y-Yes." He jumped and flew toward the ceiling. "Leave me alone!"
"We would but there's a mob looking for you!" Sara started. "We mean no harm!"
"I ain't got time for this.." Wolverine then unsheathed his adamantium claws and pounced after the creature which sort of looked like Nightcrawler with wings.
The two duked it out and Wolverine managed to scratch the rock-hard surface. He tried to fly away but I made a couple ice barriers while Sara kept watch on the mob.
"Guys..I think Jean's losing control of the mob!" Sara called as Wolverine managed to pierce the rock like skin again. The people seemed to be waking up from a dream.
"Nice..Wolvie.." I groaned as he and I picked him up.
The three of us ran back to the Blackbird with this beasty guy and flew off toward home. I saw Johnny again flying beside us and gave us a thumbs up. Wolverine gave Johnny the middle claw and he knew to back off.
"Hank, we got this gargoyle-like mutant." Sara said over the communicator. "Wolvie scratched him up good so we need medical assistance. He seems to be healing himself but he's ranting and raving about something."
"Understood." Hank's voice responded. "The Prof and Jean'll join me in the med-lab when you get here."
We landed at the mansion and rushed the gargoyle-like creature to the med-lab. The kid couldn't stop saying "Morlocks need the wind-rider." We needed Storm to help us. We put the mutant on a bed and waited for the others. Our new recruits were also there. I guessed Hank was giving them a tour of the lab.
I stood watching in my quiet as the other people buzzed about around me. My head was already aching from accidentally picking up people's thoughts. So many people were all thinking at the same and I couldn't pick out what a single was. I was still learning to control my powers and having no control over what was happenning to me was something I hated. I felt weak and useless, something I also disliked.
So far, I had managed to avoid saying much and talking to many people. Maybe I was being silly, but I had a feeling that my, what felt like, invisibility wouldn't last long enough for me to savour the feeling of being able to blend into the shadows and be unseen by anyone else without actually having the real power to do so.
I paid little attention to what was going on around me, I was vaguely aware of fighting and some shouting, but, other than that, everything was a blur to my crowded mind.
I was leant against the nearest wall, the rest of the group of girls huddled together only two steps away from me, and my arms were crossed over my chest. My hazel eyes were seemingly observing everything around me, but I was really trying to find one thing I could focus on. If I could focus on something, everyone else's thought would fade and I'd finally be able to process my own thoughts. Thoughts I had yet to think.
I find a dent in the wall opposite to me helpful, I stared at it for a moment, taking in every little shade of colour and every little shadow, and the throbbing pain in my head eased. The thoughts were gone, well, most were, but I still had a headache.
I heard more speech around me, voices fluttering through the air like an gang of various butterflies, but I could only make out one thing said .
" Training session's done for a while."
Kip Jude, Gargoyle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A roar of wind sounds somewhere distant but quickly fades into a faint humm. Voices echo off far away. They are quiet and confused but he cannot quite hear what is being said. It's like they were in another room. Slowly the voices came closer as the dull ringing in his head subsided.

"It really is most intriguing Logan," a calm voice finally came into focus.

"He is a scrappy little kid. Even got a good lick on me," a gruffer, and somewhat annoyed voice answered.

"Fascinating! He has already fully regenerated the damage. It's not as impressive as your own healing factor. It only seems to work while he is completely dormant. Still, it is most effective if there is a safe place to rest," the calmer voice spoke.

"Ain't a lotta safe places to rest anywhere he's likely to get hurt bad enough ta need it Hank!" the gruffer voice retorted.

"True, but it is still a very useful ability. His skin does add some layer of protection as well," the calmer voice added.

"You ain't just whistlin' Dixie," the gruffer voice responded. "It was like clawin' stone tryin' to bring this kid in."

Finally his eyes managed to slide open groggily. It wasn't clear how long he'd been out but it was clear he was somewhere he'd never been before. As he moved his eyes carefully he saw two people in the room he found himself in. One was a strange man with blue fur and the other was the man who had attacked him in the sewer. That was enough knowledge for him.

Suddenly he leapt up from the table he'd been lying on. He quickly jumped back and gripped the wall while he took in his surroundings. It appeared to be some sort of clinic but he was just guessing. He'd never been to a doctor's office before.

The two men jumped at his sudden movement and held their arms up as if to calm him. It wasn't very effective, however, with the shorter man's claws extended. He shifted on the wall, looking for a way out.

"Calm down young one. We mean you no harm. My name is Hank and this is Logan," the blue furred one spoke gently.

"You attacked me," Kip shouted defensively, eyeing the clawed Logan while trying to figure out how to get past them to the door he saw on the side wall.

"Ya didn't give me much choice kid. We were tryin' ta save yer hide from the guys with guns and you freaked," Logan said, trying to sound calm but not doing a great job of it.

"GRRRR.....DON'T SAY THAT!!!" Kip yelled fiercely.

He responded very poorly to any use of the word freak and that signalled it was time to go. He pushed off the wall and landed on the corner of the examining table he had been on. He used it as a springboard and pounced towards the door. He caught the top of the door with his hands and the door slid open by itself. He used his momentum to swing up and through the door, grabbing firm hold of the wall above the outside of the door.

He was in some kind of hallway and it was a very sturdy one. It hurt his fingers a little to grip into it which meant it was tougher than steel. Still, it wasn't so tough he couldn't keep a grip on it.

"Again?" he heard Logan shouting as the two men in the room could be heard moving towards him.

He had to move fast and find a way out of wherever he was. He took a quick look both ways and decided to move towards the hallway that turned down another hall. He bounds along the wall as fast as most normal people run. He sprung from the wall and landed in the adjacent hallway on all four.

He did not land to what he was hoping for, however. Instead of an empty hallway he found one crowded with over half a dozen people. One he recognized as the guy who shot ice at him. The others all seemed to be closer to his age.

"What the.......?" one of the younger guys said without thinking.

Kip took that as he always took such things. They thought he was a freak. So, he leapt forward at an angle and took hold of the wall. He leapt again and grabbed the ceiling above the first of them.

"Comin' through!" he heard Logan shouting.

This time he was off along the ceiling above everyone's head. as he clambered along he noticed a door at the end of this hall opening. It was a tiny little room but he recognized it as an elevator. He had never been in one before but had climbed many elevator shafts in his time. He dove for it and pressed the only button he saw. The door slid shut just before Logan could reach it and Kip breathed a sigh of relief. He may get out of here, afterall.

When the door opened again, Kip found himself staring at a bald man in a wheelchair. Suddenly Kip no longer felt threatened, as if everything in the world would be alright. He couldn't explain why as up till now he had been sure he was captured by some of Masque's new friends.

"I apologize for the manner in which you were brought here Kip," the man spoke and his voice was very kind. "There were a number of armed men about to happen upon you that meant you harm so Wolverine had to act quickly. I assure you that you are quite safe here. Perhaps an introduction is in order. I am Charles Xavier and this is the Xavier School For Gifted Youngsters. I would like to invite you to join us here!"

I stood slightly apart from my fellow new students, mostly because mutants tended to pulse with an aura amazingly close to dreamers, making it difficult to tell exactly how many were in their numbers. I had counted 27 when we had started, and had determined that five were in fact really there and two were not. A tall girl with black hair had spoken to me, but her aura followed her in such a way that I was sure she was simply an apparition. Hardly anyone had that much energy in waking. One more had simply watched the battles with the robots and wandered off through a wall. That left 20 I needed to determine. The real ones probably wouldn't be able to see the same people I saw and they would begin to think I was crazy too... I shuddered lightly at the thought.

Suddenly a large orangish creature came careening down the hall, leaping to the roof and crawling along it. I clicked my tongue sympathetically. The poor thing must be caught in a nightmare that altered his astral body to the point where it was unrecognizable. I looked at the others and saw some of them jumping out of the way as if they could see it too. I figured they were astral bodies as well, otherwise they would never be able to see such a thing.

Sara and I went to walk upstairs when I saw Corelia holding her head. The prof mentioned she had some kind of telepathic powers like Jeanie. Somehow, Jean sensed what was wrong and came out of the Cerebro chamber and to Katie's side. Jean's red hair was tied back in a ponytail and as she passed she touched Sara on the shoulder for support.

" Hang in there, slugger." She smiled as she reminded Sara of the baseball game we played a few months ago.

Sara meant so much to me. I wanted to pop the question but I couldn't today. It wouldn't be appropiate and it had to be special. One thing was certain, my engangement to Sara is going to take a lot less time than Scott and Jean's.

The professor and the gargoyle-like mutant came back downstairs and the rest of my team were going to be introduced to him.

" Hey." I smiled. "Sorry about blocking you in the subway. We had to bring you in. I hope you're okay. We don't mean-."

"It's okay." the gargoyle smiled. " My name's Kip and the Prof here asked me to come learn about my powers. "

The other students seemed to accept him now that he wasn't flying, clawing to the walls and stuff. I noticed he had trouble flying too when we were facing him. I made a mental note for him to talk to Warren. He also wanted to talk to Storm. I could tell he did. We were probably going to have to go to the Morlock tunnels soon. I really, really didn't like sewers.

" Welcome to the Institute." I shook hands with Kip. "You're gonna like it here. We can help you in a lot of ways. As for our group, I think it's dinner time so we should probably go up to the dining hall and eat something."

The others all walked upstairs leaving Sara and I to talk. Even Hank went upstairs so as far as I knew, the subbasement was deserted.

" Now that we're alone.." Sara smiled sweetly and placed her arms and kissed me deeply and stopped.

"What was that for?" I asked.

"For being my best friend, my hero and my soulmate." She kissed me again. "I love you so much, Bobby Drake. Thanks for helping me today."

"Anything for you." I replied. "Let's go get some food. I'm one hungry snowman!"

Sara and I walked upstairs and I saw the prof introducing the new students to everyone. I figured after dinner we'd find out what Kip was up to and what the situation with the Morlocks was. I kept thinking about that and how I was going to propose to Sara. I loved her so much.

=Scout=

Talk about hubbub. A mutant chase, and I didn't get to go? I suppose with such a close range chase it wasn't really necessary to have a human GPS, now was it? Now that I had all these people in my memory though, it would be easy to find them should they ever go anywhere. I had known what part of the city Iceman was in infallibly. I hoped he hadn't noticed my ethereal scrying presence when he was running.

The mutant they had found, Kip. I liked the name, the sound of it reminded me of something friendly. The irony was that he seemed a bit of a contrast, though I'm sure he was good behind that. I had laughed previously when he had sped past us, to myself of course. It was interesting to see the faces of the other students while I calmly stood there and suppressed a chortle. I had known he hadn't meant harm, but several of the other students were a little startled. I had hoped one of them would have snapped out of it by now, however.

Katie's agog demeanor was distressing me. I had read her profile and knew of her ethereal power, probably on the same wavelink as my ability to scout. I watched her trying to study the presences nearby, as if she was looking inside of us. I knew I had heard somewhere that mutants give off this aura, and I was nearly sure what she was sensing. I could blurrily see the same thing in my ethereal scouting form. Just to be sure, maybe it was worth a test run.

I leaned against a wall momentarily and lowered my head, enough to give me the appearance of dozing, otherwise I might not be able to keep my body's balance when I left it. I took a quick moment to concentrate and I reached inside for my aura, feeling around it for an entrance, and digging into the core. With a hasty jump I felt my presence seperate from my body and I drearily floated towards Katie.

I didn't mean to scare her, but I did end up doing so. She had been looking in another direction before I started meandering my way over, sensing the auras of other mutants that I could see fuzzily, but some sixth sense turned her vision to the spot where I was approaching her. She gasped, shocked at what was in front of her. It was difficult to move my ethereal muscles but I managed a meek grin before I got a little closer. Her gaze traveled between my ethereal form and my near lifeless body, just a fragment of my aura remained there. My essence was familiar, the same shape as my body, so I knew she recognized what was in front of her. I began to withdraw my energy and coalesce back into my body, but I got just a glimpse of Katie's own aura. Was I mistaken, or were their three different shades there? A brilliant white, a black, and a gray. Maybe I had been hallucinating, or was this some astral presence in her that I was detecting? Strange.

With a jerk I was back inside my body again and I opened my eyes quickly finding that they directly met with Katie. I smiled warmly and gave a shrug. From across the room I directed a whisper in her direction, "I guess we have a little in common."

So she was real.... seeing that she was able to seperate into her astral body in waking was rather startling, considering I had never been able to. I smiled a little at her whisper, my smile disappearing as I heard a soft whisper in my ear.
She can see us... that makes her dangerous. She knows we exist... she'll have us sent back. No more sleep, no more dreams, you'll be studied the rest of your life, like a zoo animal....
"Shut up, Abaddon," I whispered. "She can't have seen any of you, or she would've reacted to it."
Suit yourself... Professor Xavier may trust you for now, but how long will that last? Once he sees your teammates don't trust you, you'll be shipped back. Maybe this time Dr. MacTaggert will decide you're simply too dangerous to keep. You'll be another Proteus...
Quiet, can't you see how distressed she is?
Let her be distressed. Maybe we can get some exercise then...
Morgana, that's not right. Without the three of us, what does she have?
"My sanity," I muttered. "All of you shut up before someone hears you. They're going to notice..."
All I heard was the deep chuckle of Abaddon as I felt their presences recede into the depths of my mind. I turned my attention back to Scout, who I hoped fervently hadn't heard the conversation.
"It seems we do have at least a little in common.... are you truly awake?"

Aidan

I had a mind to snap at that girl right then and there but I settled with a steely glare as she dropped the paper into the basket. I never littered and never will. People drop things all the time.
"Psycho," I muttered under my breath.
I watched the others use the Danger Room and was mildly impressed with all three of them although it did seem like they were showing off. It was ok to do so once in a while, but you look like an arrogant fool in the process. I wasn't going to show them my powers just yet and planned to train when I was alone.

We headed up out of the sub-basement and continued the tour of the mansion. Bobby and some of the others had to leave for some reason, something about a new teammate or something. I paid no heed and continued on but we stopped for some reason. I naturally stood away from the others and started twiddling my thumbs. Immediately, little spirals of wind spun in a circle, amusing me for however long time passed until we heard a loud noise. We looked down the hall to see a orangish creature climbing along the ceiling, with who looked like Wolverine following right after him. I tried to get a good look of the guy and managed to conclude that he kinda looked like a gargoyle, although I wasn't so sure of my assessment. He moved too quickly and was into an elevator before Wolverine could catch him. Some of the students talked quietly to each other but I just continued twiddling my thumbs, trying to figure out what he was.

A short time later, I found my conclusion to be correct and looked at what looked like a human gargoyle. Although some mutants looked normal in others' eyes, there were some who were not and were unfortunate enough to be shunned away from society. I was only grateful that I was spared of that kind of torture.

We ended up in the cafeteria, where we could have almost anything we wanted. I had plans for myself though and only took a turkey sandwich and a cup of fruit punch. Sitting near the group but not too close, I downed my meal in such a way that I would be judged as being hungry, not going off to train in the Danger Room. I threw away the trash and sidled off towards the exit but found someone blocking my way. Looking up, I saw a red visor looking down at me.
"Danger Room?"
"Yeah, I suppose."
"I suppose? What's that suppose to mean?"
"It means yes, I want to train," I sighed, trying to keep my patience in check. "Are you going to take me there? I don't want to impose on Bobby and Sara. For a happy couple, they looked depressed."
I couldn't tell what he was thinking as the ruby glasses seemingly blocked his emotions from seeping out. He nodded curtly and walked down the hall, motioning me to follow.
"I heard you were giving Bobby a hard time today. Is that right?"
"Yeah, I guess I was. You try to come up with a nickname that exclaims that I use wind and electricity."
"How about 'Mini Storm'?"
I shook my head and laughed, catching the reference immediately. "I don't think I could handle the teasing. Eclipse doesn't exactly describe my powers, but it sounds original enough."
"You'd be surprised at how unoriginal some of our names are. I mean, Bobby's is probably one of the worst but mine isn't mind-numbingly awesome. I do look like a Cyclops, but I have two eyes behind this thing."
"Why do you wear it then?" I inquired.
"If my eyes are open when I take it off, an optical blast will immediately be released and potentially wreak havoc. My visor controls my power and even makes me touch a button to actually use it. I'd rather put up with it instead of constantly endangering everyone that I cared about."

We talked some more about our powers until we entered the Danger Room. I went into the training area as Cyclops (or Scott Summers as he later told me) went over to the controls and turned on the system.
"I probably shouldn't ask you this, but do you want the safety control on or off? If it's off, you're at a much larger risk of getting injured."
"Keep it off," I calmly replied. "I've been looking for a good match for a long time."
He silently nodded and pressed a few buttons. Soon, five droids appeared, all in a horizontal line. Taking a deep breath, I summoned wind under my feet and pushed off into the air, hovering a few feet above the holograms.
"Another flyer on our hands. I should have known," Cyclops said.

The droids went in different directions, all blasting me from different angles. Soaring higher into the air, I put up an electric shield as lasers slammed into it, pushing me back against the wall. Dropping the barrier and dropping down to the ground, I ran towards the nearest droid and punched through its midsection, with electricity mingling to make it look like an electric punch. As the droid's "parts" clattered to the ground, the twin right behind it rushed forward, firing a laser. I backflipped out of the way and thrusted my fists forward, shooting a blast of air into it. As I turned to face the next one, the other slammed into the wall, crumbling to the ground.

Running towards the droid, I held a glowing arm in front of me as the droid tried to attack straight on. My plan of action didn't work out that well as the laser jerked my arm sideways, causing me to grimace in pain. With my right arm temporarily out of action, I had to rely on my legs, which I always thought were stronger than my arms. Trying to kick the droid into submission, it managed to dodge my kicks and fire a shot from its arm at the same time. Flying out of the way, I raced towards it and punted it upwards before shooting it straight into the ceiling with an electric blast.

The other two tried to work as a tandem and came at me horizontally, one coming from each side. Taking a deep breath, I twitched as I took my right hand and reach over to grab my left wrist. Gathering all the electricity that I had, I shot it at the droid and swallowed it up. Lifting it with as much I could exert without fainting, I spun it counterclockwise and slamming it into the the other robot. Both crashed loudly and the lights into the training area immediately shut down. Sweat dripped down my face as I hobbled over to the door. Cyclops helped me out and held me steady, my left shoulder draped around him.
"Now that was raw power," he commented lightly. "How long have you been training?"
"Since I was five," I gulped. "My dad made sure I had my powers under control. We went to great lengths to keep my training sessions a secret."
"It looks like he did a good job then," he nodded. "Let's get you to the sick bay first and then I'll show you to your room. I think you'll have time to explore the grounds tomorrow."
I nodded wearily and trudged along, content with the way things turned out today.

-------------

As Sara and I ate dinner, I saw Scott come up from the sub-basement. I wondered what was going on since he made a bee-line right for Sara and I's table.

"What's up, Scottie?" I asked.

"Just saw that Aidan kid in the Danger Room." Scott explained. " She's got some talent. It's like Ororo in another body or something. She's in the med-lab now wi"

I scratched my chin. It looked like these new mutants were going to be one hell of a team. We still had the mystery of Kip to solve. Why did he run at the sight of the X-Men? What were the Morlocks doing back? And why did he want Storm?

" Thanks for the heads up, Scott. " I smiled. "I appreciate it."

" Yeah, Scott I think Aidan'll turn out fine." Sara replied.

" You two are going to be okay, right?" Scott began. "Small mansion. That and I saw you two walking to the lake."

" Yeah. " I nodded. "I don't think we're ready to tell the team what happened."

"Not for a while, anyway." Sara finished my sentence and went back to her pasta. She really was amazing.

I had to talk to Kip about everything but I saw him talking to the Prof and getting a tour from the others. Scott went off to see how his wife Jean was doing with Corelia. I figured those two were talking telepath to telepath. I wanted to ask him how I could propose to Sara but I figured that could wait and I was going to do it in my own way.

"You did real good today, Sara." I held her hand.

"I know. You helped me in more ways than I can think of." She replied. "Everything's going to be okay with you here."

Sara and I got up and we decided to visit Aidan in the med-lab. I wanted to see how one of our recruits was doing and Sara wanted to see Kitty in the computer lab for some reason. She said she'd catch up with me back at the room. I entered the lab and saw Aidan as she was getting ready to leave.

"Hello. Scott send you down here?" Aidan asked.

"Sort of." I answered. "He told me a little about your practice session and I'm impressed. Nice to know we got someone as well trained as you on board. You're going to be a real asset. If you want to learn more about lightning and wind, you should probably talk to Storm."

Aidan nodded and made her way to her dorm. She didn't say much but that was okay. I just wanted to let her know how I felt. Next step now would be to talk to Kip but he was talking to the Prof so I couldn't but in. The others were eating so I started to head upstairs when I bumped into six feet of Russian organic steel. Colossus was armored up for some reason.

" Pete?" I asked. "What's up, bud?"

"Well, I'm going to practice in the Danger Room and I also wanted to see how you were, tovarisch." Pete replied.

" I'm okay. Sara's okay but don't tell anyone this but I got to think of a way to propose to her. I can't do it tonight of course." I explained. "It'd be kind of hard considering what today is."

"Da." Pete nodded. "The heart will tell you when it's the best time. You should do it when it is right and then it'll just happen."

Pete was always the romantic type. He painted pretty pictures and has the soul of a poet under that indestructable skin.

" Have fun in the Danger Room!" I waved as he went in.

I noticed some of the other students walking up to their dorms and mine and Sara's hangng out talking. I didn't see Katie and Scout though. I wondered what they were up to. Not to mention how Jean was doing with Corelia. Classtime was over so I couldn't hunt for them all over campus. We'd talk tomorrow after the Prof finished with Kip.

I got to mine and Sara's room and turned on our TV. I figured nothing was on so I watched the news and waited for Sara to come up. She and Kitty have become best friends. I wasn't sure what thet were talking about but I was going to find out somehow. I sat back and thought about little Hank as I waited for Sara.

Kip Jude, Gargoyle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kip was the only new student to recieve the full tour from Professor Xavier himself. Largely this was because Charles Xavier was the only thing keeping him calm. A small part, though, was because there was some concern that the other students might not sincerely welcome Kip among them. Even among mutants he had a cursed uniqueness in that he scarcely looked human.
Meeting Kurt Wagner and Henry McCoy soothed Kip's apprehension somewhat but not entirely. Afterall, everyone he was to be studying and training with looked completely human. When things were finally settled and he was with his fellow students he would stand out. And Kip had never stood out and still managed to find a way to fit in. Not even loosely.
When the tour was over, and he had met everyone there was to meet currently at the mansion, it was time for dinner. A place had been set for Kip at the dining hall table, right alongside everyone else. It was a first for Kip. He hadn't even shared a community meal while he was a morlock.
The effort was not wasted on him but it still did not quite work. No one said anything but he caught a few awkward sideways glances. Nearest he could tell, none of the other students had quite come to terms with his vastly different appearance. When he saw the first student leave, he believed her name to be Aidan, he decided to take the opportunity to excuse himself as well. He left his plate almost completely untouched.
While everyone else made themselves busy with dinner or other normal evening activities, Kip decided to familiarize himself with his new surroundings a bit more. Once he was clear of anyone's sight, he leapt to the ceiling and began crawling about as quietly as he could. He wasn't in much of a mood to draw attention to himself.
Roaming around the ceiling of the mansion he passed by a few conversations of no relevance to him. He toured the second floor, then the first again, and finally he found his way back to the sub-basement. He observed Scott Summers leading Aidan to the medical room. He remembered that room most clearly.
Kip's eyes traced the way they had come and deduced that they must have been in the danger room. It had been explained to him fully but unlike the other students he didn't have a chance to see it in operation himself. It was uncommon for him but something about this place made Kip curious. The danger room suddenly peaked that curiosity and he clambored his way quickly to it along the ceiling.
He dropped down and entered the control center for the danger room. As he looked over the panels and symbols he tried to recall what did what. It took him a few minutes but he finally managed to initiate a program. With a few guessed button presses the door opened and he walked in.
"Beginning training simulation level 5. Safety controls disabled," a feminine voice reverberated.
As the words stopped several droids appeared in all directions. For a moment Kip wasn't sure how this was supposed to work so he thought to wait. He quickly changed his mind as all of the droids opened fire on him from all angles. He barely had the time to leap straight up out of the way before they singed the air where he had just been.
Using the momentum from the leap he spread his wings to act as a midair brace and leaned backwards, flipping onto the top of one of the droids. One of the other droids charged at him perched atop one of it's fellow bots. Kip hopped back a foot and dropped, catching the backside of the droid with his claws. He used his weight to swing back up and around the thing, kicking the charging bot as it passed with both clawed feet, shredding it's outer shell.
He landed back on top of the same droid on all four. As the other bots all continued to fire at him he pushed down with al his might, jumping almost all the way to the vaulted ceiling while smashing the droid he was on down into the ground. Just before the bots could get a fix on him he spread his wings, glided halfway across the room, then pulled them back in allowing him to drop straight down onto another bot. The force and his claws turned it into a sparking mess as it hit the floor.
This time the bots were ready to respond though. As he touched down, a laser blast hit him dead center of the back. He managed to roll with it, using the motion to hop onto the wall where he quickly scurried up in a zigzag pattern. His back still hurt like heck, though.
He pushed off of the wall and angled his wings for a swift sharp dive. He swooped straight at one of the bots and tore through it with his claw-like fingers. Again the bots got a lock on him and his left haunch took the brunt of a blast.
He landed and slumped to one knee. Quickly he rolled to the side and picked up the first droid he had downed. He brought it up just in time to use it as a shield to block two more laser blasts. He threw the bot as hard as he could and it smacked head first into one of the three that was still shooting at him.
The other two that were shooting at him welcomed the opening and both fired a full blast at him. One singed his side and the other nailed his right wing, bringing him back to one knee. As the two remaining bots closed in on him an emergency siren sounded.
"Terminating simulation. Resetting all safety controls. Authorization Colossus," the feminine voice again sang across the danger room.
The door opened and in stepped a very tall man with shiny metallic skin. He rushed over to Kip and helped him to his feet, letting him lean on his shoulder. He shook his head and let out a worried sigh.
"Did the professor not explain this room to you? Students should always be supervised when using the danger room if the safety is off," he spoke in a heavy russian accent.
"Missed that part," Kip answered shortly, disappointed he hadn't finished the simulation.
"We have great worry for student's well being. You must promise to be more careful in the future," Colossus still sounded concerned.
"Whatever," Kip sounded a bit irritated and disaffected.
As they entered the hall Kip pulled away from Colossus and hopped onto the wall. He almost slipped off as he put weight onto his wounded leg but just managed to hang on. Without another word he was off to find a spot to be alone and heal.
Someone else feeling responsible for him, that was a new thing to Kip. He barely remembered the nuns who used to care for him acting that way but it was so long ago. He wasn't quite ready for that yet. Not when he still felt like an outsider.
It took him a few minutes but he found his way outside. Everyone seemed to be inside so he didn't feel like being there right now. Not while he was hurt.
He climbed to the highest point of the mansion he could and perched himself above an arched window. He looked out upon the grounds and posed menacingly upon the arch. His eyes slid shut as his muscles locked into place. This is where he would rest to heal himself, as the Xavier Mansions first gargoyle statue. If only for an hour or so...
After only a little while of communicating with Jean telepathically, my head was already hurting. I had never had a conversation of any sort trough my mind before, only pciked up random thoughts, so this was all new to me.
The red head had been talking to me through my mind to get me used to talking telepathically while, at the same time, teaching me how to block out thoughts. At the point where a man had walked in, who? I had no idea, I was able to block Jean out. I doubted I would be able to block a whole groups' out.
Being in a large group was also very new to me, I had been homeschooled all my life and never subjected to crowds or gangs. It was something my mother didn't like the idea of.
I left the two in privacy only minutes after the man came in, sending a telepathic farewell to Jean. Jean nodded to me and told me to find her sometime for more help. The man heard none of this, but I smiled politely at him as I left the room.
Once alone again, I wrapped my arms closing around my chest and began to search for food, sticking to the shadows of the halls.
I slipped quickly to the computer room. I needed to talk to Kitty about a few things in private and the computer room was always empty. Today, thankfully, was no exception and I quickly found Kitty hunched over a keyboard, typing away vigourously. I was almost afraid to interrupt her.
"Kitty?"
Kitty paused and looked up, blinking a few times to focus. "Sara? What are you doing here?"
I scratched the back of my head slightly. "Well...I...I wanted to talk to you about...well about Bobby actually."
She spun round in her chair. "What's up? He pressuring you for sex or somethin'? Because I warned him wat would happen if he did..."
"No. No. Nothing like that."
"Oh I get it, he's started to throw his weight around hasn't he?"
"No it's -"
"I got it, say no more, he's gone gay hasn't he? Go on, you can tell me."
"KITTY! I'm here to talk to you about marrying him!"
"Ohhhh," she motioned to a chair. "Why didn't you say so before."
I shook my head and sighed. I had a right mind to tell her that I hadn't had the chance because she'd jumped to conclusions and gone crazy at me, but I thought better of it. I sat down and fiddled with my hair, like I always did when I was nervous. "Well you see...I've been thinking a lot lately and I know I've only Bobby for a little while but I really love him and...and I wanna marry him."
Kitty nodded. "And does Bobby know this?"
I sighed and shook my head. "I don't wanna say anything in case he doesn't feel the same way."
"Well there's one way to find out. Ask him to marry you."
"What? I can do that?"
Kitty shook her head. "Look, forget about that c*** you've read in books.
What does your heart tell you to do?"
I sighed. Kitty always knew the right thing for me to do. Why didn't I? "When should I do it?"
"When the time is right, you'll know." She looked at the clock. "I have to go meet Pete. You want a lift back to your room?"
"Yes. Thanks Kitty."
Kitty grabbed my arm and together we ran through wall after wall until she let me go back at mine and Bobby's. I waved her off as she disappeared through the wall and turned to see Bobby sat on the sofa, smiling at me like he always did.
I sat beside him and hugged him tightly. "Miss me snowman?"
Kitty and Sara travelling together was such an interesting sight. I wondered what those two were cooking up. I was a bit startled to see Sarta go through the wall first and Kitty showed up for a sec and gave me a wink for some reason.
"Of course I missed you, honey." I then kissed her. "Been so lonely up here thinking about stuff. Letting the students explore the mansion for a bit. I figured we could give them a break while we focus on us."
"Oh yeah?" She replied.
"Yeah." I smiled. "I love you so much and everyone's been so supportive of things today. But, I dunno how those students feel when we ran out earlier. Hope they aren't too mad."
" I'm sure they're not mad, besides this place is always crazy, people coming going all the time." Sara explanied. "They need to get used to that. And we are their teachers after all."
Being teachers of a class of new mutants was a new experience. We were ready and Sara was right, they were going to have to accept that.
"You're right." I smiled. "They're gonna have to get used to it. That and the fact that the Snowman's comin' at you with his ultimate weapon that'll make you feel better no matter what day it is!"
I wiggled my fingers and playfully pounced on her and managed to shut the door with my foot at the same time. I then began to tickle her and kiss her.
"One problem snowman...I can use your secret weapon too!" Sara then pounced and tickled me and soon I found myself laying with her on the couch with her in my arms.
"Sara." I smiled. "I feel so much better now with you in my life and all the craziness goes away because you make things okay. Some day I hope to make you the happiest woman on Earth."
I so badly wanted to propose right there. Problem was that today was supposed to be little Hank's birthday. I looked at her and moved her hair. Now I knew how Scott felt bout Jean, Warren and Betsy, Pete and Kitty and even Remy and Rogue.
"Honey..There's something I want to tell you." I smiled. "I can't do it today, though but I..I just want to tell you I love you so much Sara...umm we gotta get you a last name." I started and Sara interupted by placing her hand on my mouth.
"I think..Drake would be nice." She smiled.
Bobby gave that adorable little grin, "You planning on stealing my last name?"
"I was thinking more of sharing actually. How would you feel about that idea?" I asked carefully, trying to avoid finding out about that directly.
"I think it's the best idea you ever had."
My heart sang. I'd have given anything, ANYTHING to change the day. Any other day of the week and I'd ask him right there and then. Just do it! Just ask him! Do you need more proof!? He won't say no! He won't! Stick the day and ask him! I sighed and kissed him gently. "An idea for another day perhaps."
I sat on the sofa, though my heart and head yelled at me for disobeying them. What choice did I have? I couldn't propose to him now, not today, not of this day. I bit my lip and fiddled uneasily with my hair. Was I going to keep regretting this decision for the rest of the day?
"Alright, honey. We can always do it when you're ready. I know what today means but Right now I feel like I want you now more than ever. It's like I got Lockheed flying in my gut or something. You got that feeling, too?"
I nodded, and at the same time my heart jumped. He feels the same way! Oh I'm such an idiot for not asking him. But he respects how I feel...he's so sweet... "It's late," I said, "we should sleep."
We changed and climbed into bed. It was late and it had been a long day. I curled up in Bobby's arms and slept peacefully, dreaming of the perfect proposal.
Kip Jude, Gargoyle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The evening slowly gave way to night and the stars started to emerge as the light of sun faded on the horizon. Kip had been posed at the top of the X-mansion for near an hour and a half before someone finally took notice of him. It seems he had perched above the window of the one X-man he recognized.

To Ororo Munroe's confusion, she opened her window to let in some fresh air and found a gargoyle sitting above it. Strance things were always coming and going here but this had to be a first by her estimations.

"A gargoyle outside my room? That wasn't here this afternoon," her voice was mildly amused as the wind gently lifted her outside.

She examined Kip for nearly a minute before she was certain who it was. She hadn't been home when the Professor had made Kip's introductions but he had been described to her upon her return. There could be no doubt as to his identity.

"Ah, you must be the child Sara, Bobby and Logan brought in. My name is Ororo. They said that you are a Morlock?" she asked pleasantly but recieved no immediate reply.

Kip remained frozen in place there for a good thirty seconds before his eyes slowly began to drift open. Much to his surprise he awoke to find himself staring directly into the face of a stunning woman who happened to be floating in midair. Needless to say he was a bit startled by the shock. He flipped up backwards onto the roof and fell into a defensive posture on all four, ready to pounce off at the first sign of threat.

"Who....... you are the wind rider.......?" he wasn't sure but he thought he recalled her from description a long time ago.

"Yes. I have been called that. I led the Morlocks once after I defeated your former leader Callisto," she watched Kip intently, seeing his struggle to call up old memories. "She is currently in Genosha, by the way."

"The Morlocks.........are......ill at ease," Kip deliberated on the right words to use. "I believe Masque is trying to take control."

"Masque?" she sighed a disheartened sigh. "We thought he was long gone."

The look on Kip's face told her that he knew nothing of Masque's past. Only that he was active in Morlock society now. This raised many questions.

"What about Mikhail Rasputin? He's Colossus's brother," she asked hopefully.

"Not all Morlocks returned. I don't know if he is back or not......." Kip spoke quietly, still uneasy talking so casually.

As they spoke his posture loosened and he shifted into a more comfortable position. He still wasn't quite comfortable but talking about this made him feel less on guard. It would take more than conversation to fully gain his trust after everything he has been through in life.

"Why do you believe Masque is trying to take control?" she asked but her voice sounded like she believed him without needing explanation.

"About five months ago, I overheard him talking to some of his people. He was ....... speaking ill of Morlock leadership," he paused as he spoke, determined to use the appropriate words. "When Masque caught me listening to his conversation he threatened me. Said I was too much of a threat to safety because I'd been spotted topside. We fought but no one won. I had to leave the tunnels. Since then, he's been sending Morlocks after me. That's why...... that's why I thought your friends were after me."

" That is most unfortunate and I can understand why you fled from Bobby and the others. Perhaps we shall investigate the situation in the tunnels tomorrow. I'm sorry this all had to happen to you, Kip. We'll solve this. This is partially my responsibility," her voice was sorrowful but Kip did not understand why.

"Why be sorry? That's just life....." he said matter of factly.

Without another word Kip turned and scurried across the roof quickly. He had said what he needed to say and felt better for it but he still felt the outsider. It would take more than the sympathies of the X-men to make him feel otherwise. What he needed was the friendship of his peers.

Storm's sympathy had been almost completely lost on him afterall. Having been treated like the freak his whole life, things like that just seemed par for the course to Kip. As he let these thought fade he leapt form the roof and glided gracefully to the ground. He made his way inside and crawled along the ceilings to his room, avoiding the other students still. He had rested on the roof but now that night had fallen it was time for some real sleep. Night had fallen and he would need all the energy he could to get through the following day. For the following day, classes would begin and he'd have no choice but to stand among his new classmates.

"Damn these sewers Stink!" im muttered as i trudged through the tunnels. Even the Morlock camp could be considered palacial compared to wading through god knows what filth. I looked up at the wall seeing the familiar indentations in the wall where Kip had passed through, he never had been one to use the Floor.
"Well at least you didnt have to walk through this crap"
I eventually found a room that had much more large gouges torn out of the walls, slash marks too. Looked like a serious fight had gone on but there was no evidence of anyone here now.

Looking around there seemed to be a smaller room that branched off from this one, the old rusted iron door slightly ajar. Managing to squeeze myself in i threw my bag in one corner and took off my coat, draping it over myself as a blanket and tried to get some rest. Tommorrow i would head topside and make my way to that mansion id heard them say Kip had gone.

Ok its crap, its basic but im just getting myself in there...i can go dormant for now untill u decide to investigate the sewers.

As I slept, I found myself in a tuxedo and all the X-Men past and present were in seats outside the mansion. Even the Fantastic Four and the Avengers were there. It was like some kind of superhero media event.

" Looking great, Robert." I heard a voice call. I spun around and saw the original Angel and Blonde Phanthom. They were Sara's parents!

"Thanks..." I started. "What are- Why.."

"Well, we came from heaven to talk to you, Bobby. We want you to take care of our daughter. We know you want to marry her and make her happy." Angel said.

Angel was in his famous blue flightsuit with gold wings sewn into the jacket. His wife, Blonde Phanthom was in her evening gown costume. Those two fought side by side with Captain America before his plundge into the arctic sent him to the latter part of the 20th century.

"I will. " I nodded. "I have to. She's my heart and soul and I'll make you guys proud to have me for a son-in-law. Even if you're not around."

"We're always around Sara." Blonde Phanthom smiled. "Even little Hank is as long as you keep us in your heart."

"And tell Cap and Wolverine they still owe me one from the big one!" Angel grinned.

The figures began to fade and I began to wake up. Morning came and I saw the sun rising slowly. I looked to my right and saw Sara sleeping peacefully. I wondered if she saw them, too. Today was going to be a whole new day. Who knows what was going to happen.

It was the middle of the night, but I still sat, wide awake, in my new quarters. I had trouble with sleepwalking in the past, my physical body trying to follow my astral body in its wanderings. As such, I had been allowed a private room with a lock. I had never been able to unlock a door in my sleep, so any havoc I wreaked would remain in my own room.
Why don't you sleep? Abbadon's voice whispered in my ear. I know how tired you must be.... Sleep....
I sighed. "No. I'm not going to sleep until you do. In fact..." I reached for a bottle on my bedside table.
What's that? she hissed.
"Sleeping pills. Guaranteed dreamless sleep- and Dr. MacTaggert already tested them on me. Two of these and not a single projection will escape for the next eight hours."
Maybe that's for the best.... you need your sleep, Katie.
Shut up, Reverie. If we have to share a mind with you, the least you can do is be bearable.
"Time for all of you to shut up, actually," I dry swallowed two pills, choking a little and lying down. "See you in the morning."
Da....
It was the last I heard before darkness took me.

Sara and finally got dressed and headed to breakfast. I told Sara all about the dream I had last night and on the way downstairs, I saw Katie looking a little tired. I thought to myself "She mustn't have slept well last night." I looked over acorss the table at my soon to be fianceé and smiled. I was really lucky and not many people had the blessing of parents' spirits visitng them in dreams.

"Looks like our group's getting up." I motioned to the others coming in and Kip flying into the mansion to get something to eat. "I'm guessing today we're gonna help Kip with the Morlocks."

"Sure looks that way. I was thinking that I should stay here with Katie, I don't feel up for a mission. Not after yesterday." Sara explained.

"Yeah. " I nodded and bit into a bagel. "I understand perfectly. We're probably gonna meet in the war room in a bit before we go. You gonna be okay?"

"I'll be fine. You don't have to worry, I can handle myself." She slyly grinned.

I nodded and smiled. She was defintely capable of doing everything and more. Plus with all the X-Men running around this joint, it was basically a fortress.

"Yeah. Ma belle c'n take care o herself real good." I tried to sound like Gambit. I wasn't sure if it worked.

"Umm Bobby.." Sara waved over my shoulder. "Remy's behind you."

I turned and saw Remy smirking at me and gave me a wink with his black and red eyes.

"Sure got a way wit de ladies, Drake." Remy laughed and went off to find his love, Rogue.

Remy and Rogue always had everything going for them despite the non touching thing. Rogue did kiss Gambit one time and Gambit did end up in a coma for a while. It was at that point where she and I took a road trip because Gambit had a dangerous secret. But, that was in the past. Things got resolved and those two had each other again.

"X-Men! Report to the War Room!" I heard the Prof's voice call in my head. Several of the others felt it too and the students weren't sure what to make of it. We had to go and I motioned to my students to come.

" I gotta go, hon." I kissed her deeply. "I love you and I'll make it back as soon as possible!"

"Just be careful okay snowman?" She then kissed me. "I'll have a present waiting when you get back."

A present? That was gonna be interesting. I took Kip, Aidan, Tank and Julia to the War Room. I couldn't wait to come back. I had to make this a quick mission. I loved Sara and she was going to be on my mind all day.

"Why are we going with you?" Tank asked. " Is this about yesterday in the Danger Room? I mean we're just.."

"This is going to be a basic mission. It's a good chance to test your powers in the field." I explained as we walked in. "Besides, I have a feeling our friend Kip here is going to need some help."

"Indeed he is, Bobby." the Professor wheeled in with Cyclops and Storm. "Storm is going to acompany you in the Morlock tunnels. She's told me what was happening."

"Our job, Bobby will be to investigate the Morlocks problems and come back here." Ororo explained.

"First mission for a few of you." I explained. "The Prof wants to keep an eye on Corelia and Katie so they won't be joining us for this one. I picked you guys because of how you did in the Danger Room. You guys seem the most prepared. But don't forget..Storm and I have your back."

The others nodded and Storm and I lead the group to the access tunnels which will lead us to the Morlock tunnels under Manhatten. Everyone was in special uniforms made of unstable molecules so that they wouldn't be effected by powers. Reed Richards invented them and they worked like a charm.

"Bobby?" Ororo placed a hand on my shoulder. I was looking above me, knowing we were above the cafeteria. "Sara is going to be okay."

"I know , 'Ro." I smiled. "Just thinking of an idea of how to make things better for her."

Ororo opened the door and soon we were on our way. I wasn't sure how many Morlocks we'd encounter but with Storm with us, things shouldn't be that bad.

I sighed and bit into some toast. I was ashamed that I had used yesterday as an excuse to not go on the mission and I wasn't sure how long I could avoid using my powers without arising suspition. It wasn't that I couldn't control my powers, I could do that quite confidently, I was just afraid of them. I was afraid of what I could do and it scared me to think of what could happen if I used them. There were parts of my powers that I hadn't even begun to discover yet.

I took a deep breath and finished my breakfast. There was time for that later, right now I had to focus on my job as a teacher. I had two pupils in my care today, Katie and Corelia. What was I going to do with them? I couldn't take them to the danger room, that was too risky. Perhaps I should try doing more than just teaching them...perhaps I should actually try to be friends with them...

"That's not a bad idea."

I whirled around sharply to see the professor there. "Good more professor. What brings you here?"

"I heard you hadn't gone with the others. I came to see if you were alright."

"I'm alright professor. I just didn't feel up for a mission and I figured I'd be of more use if I stayed here. A nice and easy job for me."

The professor laughed. "Well I'll be glad to have your help today. I hope you can bond with your two new pupils."

"I'll do my best."

"Yes, I'm sure you will."

The professor left and I turned to Katie and Corelia who were stood alone in the cafeteria. "Hi there, I'm here to find out more about the two of you to try and...become a better teacher..." I was so nervous and I was making little sense. "I'm sorry, I'm new at this." I motioned for them to sit down and pulled a chair over to them. "So, Katie, Corelia, I would like to hear more about you. Who would like to go first?" God that sounded so lame...

Kip Jude, Gargoyle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The tunnels were somewhat dark and everyone took offense to the smell. Everyone except Kip. He had grown accustomed to the stench in his months of flight through the tunnels.
Kip crawled along the walls instead of trudging through the thick brown water. A couple of the people behind him were able to hover above it but most of the group was doomed to wade through the muck. Kip felt certain they must resent him for it. It was his fault they were down here, afterall, and he didn't have to endure that.
"It's up that way," Kip pointed ahead to another corner with his tail.
As he looked up ahead something caught his eye. Just past the side tunnel they were headed for there was a huge steel door that was bent partway open. He had stayed there for a few weeks before Masque's minions had tracked him there. It had been a sizable fight that forced him to retreat.
Anyway, when he left it last the door had been open. Not it appeared to be closed. The first thing that sprang to Kip's mind was trap. Word must have reached Masque that Kip had been taken in by the X-men and they must've set up a trap at this point for them.
Without word Kip pushed off the wall and glided ahead at great speed. He couldn't be certain that it was an ambush so he would check it out first. That way, if it was he could spring the trap without the group being caught unaware. That'd even the fight out quite a bit.
He reached the door before the party behind him could pick up their pace to try and catch him. He pried the door open a ways with his strength and slipped inside, jumping up to the ceiling. He looked down on the room to find a familiar and bewildered face.
"You too?" Kip snarled as he eyed the one person in the Morlocks who he had never thought could take in with Masque.
"What? Kip, I've been looking for you. Since you left......" they started.
"Sine I left Masque has been taking over! So what was your price? And where is the rest of the ambush situated? I know Masque couldn't think I'd be coming back by myself!" Kip continued to snarl.
He shifted around on the ceiling, preparing himself for attack. He wasn't sure what Masque had done to turn Wynder but it was too much coincidence he would be waiting here for Kip to come along. It had to be a trap and Gavin was being used because Masque must've thought Kip would trust him.
I couldnt believe my luck. Id found kip, or rather hed found me......and now he wanted to kill me!
"Calm down buddy" I looked up at the menacing figure he made on the wall. "I Came looking for you cos i wanted out too. The guards came back from tracking you and said you were working with the Wind Rider and her new gang"
He leapt at me, swearing i was a liar and i raised my hands in defence, instantly an invisible shield went up, catching him in mid air. He managed to land on it and began to furiously pound on it.
"I told you to cool it im not here to hurt you"
The shield reformed at my will, creating a bubble around Kip which i tried to lock in place, restricting his Movements. "look if i wanted to hurt you mate, right now would be a very good opportunity right?"
He simply growled a response, seeming to calm. "I think we need a quick Chat" i saw as i raise a second field across the doorway. "Just to keep out the unwanted guests, they can see in, but theres no way theyre gettin in!"
As Bobby handed out each unique suit, I took a good glimpse at mine. It was a full black body suit, probably snug but meant for utmost flexibility. Two blue lightning bolts formed an X down the front while a belt fitted around the waist, a blue X sitting in a circle in the center of the belt. The boots they gave me looked to be black leather, although when fitted, they seemed light but strong. I also had a sneaking suspicion that they had to be water resisant or else I wouldn't have been given them for my first mission.
We reached the tunnels rather quickly and soon most of the crew was walking through sewage. I personally did not want to find out for myself and took to hovering over the muck, as did the other few who could do so. We kept up a decent pace for a while until Kip spotted something in the distance. Taking off at a speed I didn't know he was capable of, sped through the air until he stopped at a metal door. Prying it open, he went inside as we chased after him and ended up at the entrance. He started to yell at another guy, who talked back in a British accent and defended himself from Kip's attacks by creating a shield.
Before we could intervene, a translucent shield covered the front door, preventing us from coming in. I tested it out by launching an electric punch but it was a solid barrier.
"No one comes in, no one comes out," I stated. "I guess defensive barriers are his specialty."
Energy force fields? I wished someone had a sonic scream like Banshee but and sonic activity would cause a cave in. Best bet now would be to have this Invisible Woman force-field welder wannabe shut it down. How were we going to do that? Ororo got up to the force field.
In the back of my mind, I wondered about Sara and how she was doing. We had to get back soon. I wanted to work on proposing to her. She's everything to me and more! My attention soon turned to Ororo, who was getting annoyed. When Storm got annoyed, things exploded.
" Stop! " Ororo commanded. Her voice rang through the tunnels. " Your former leader commands you. Callisto would not want you two to be fighting amongst yourselves! "
It didn't seem to work. They didn't listen at all to Ororo. She led the Morlocks for a little while. What happened was that Angel was kidnapped and his trail led to the tunnels. Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Wolverine had to fight to get him back. Storm and Callisto fought in aduel and Storm became the leader. However, she made Callisto second in charge since Ororo had obligations to the X-Men.
" 'Ro..I don't think they're going to listen and we can't risk having Amp here block the force field. " I explained. "I can't freeze this force field for some reason. Maybe we can talk to this guy."
" Correct, Bobby but I shall try something else. You and the others should stand back." Ororo replied.
I nodded and had Julia, Aidan and Tank back up. Storm's blue eyes went cloudy and a dense fog appeared. Some of the air went under the force field and Storm managed to create a small localized tornado and moved it toward the battling Morlocks.
" Release the forcefield, Morlock." Storm ordered. "Your wind-rider commands it."
"She know what she's doing?" Julia asked.
"Yeah." I replied. "Storm's co-leader of the X-Men. She also led the Morlocks for all of a day."
"Is that a Morlock?" Amp said as he pointed behind me.
I turned and I saw a gang of six deformed mutants. One had red skin and long claws, two were a set of female twins with purple hair and their mouths smiled to reveal fangs. There was another one that was a lumbering brute and two more that looked malnurished. I wasn't sure what to make of them.
"'Ro we got company!" I started as I placed an ice wall up.
The brute smashed it to bits.
" The one said you'd be here." the brute hissed. "Welcome, X-Men..."
"Who would like to go first?"
My head shot up from it's comfy place on my knees at those words. I hated talking about me; There wasn't much to say.
"Corelia, why don't you go first?" Sara asked me.
I swore mentally, multiple times actually, and looked at the auburn haired woman with wide eyes, pleading with her to save me the humiliation.
She took no heed to my silent begging and sighed deeply, knowing that I had no escape.
"There's not much to say," I said with a shrug, picking at the black gloves on my small hands.
Sara seemed a little unnerved by my answer, but smiled none the less; she really was determined.
"I'm sure there's something you can talk about," She said, soothingly, her grey eyes watching me intently.
I shifted under her gaze; I hated attention.
"I was born, I grew up, I came here, there's not much more to my life than that," I said hastily.
Sara sighed at my retreated behaviour and I felt bad for her. I wasn't that I diliked her or didn't want to talk her. I was just new to being around more than three people at a time and actually talking to new people. The way I saw things, to put it plainly, is that my past was my past and that it would always reamin in the past.
"What about you, Katie?" Sara asked, turning away from me, which made me sigh in relief, and turning towards the other girl.
[Morlock Tunnels]
I ran straight for the big one, hoping to knock him off balance enough to send him flying with a sonic boom. My shoulder connected and my fingers snapped - and when my eyes opened I was on my back ten feet from where I was.
"Oww!" I jumped up and heard his laugh - a deep rumbling roar.
"I'll take you down!" He dropped his shoulder and rushed at me. I clapped my hands to give me a boost, dodging out of the way - but it was a failure. He had somehow adjusted his momentum in a way impossible for anyone - especially a massive beast like that. I jumped up and wiped a line of blood from my nose and cursed.
I think he broke it. Damn. I use that on occasion.
"Amp!" I looked over to Bobby's voice, keeping my guard. "No, always keep your attention on your enemy, just listen to me. His power is to manipulate his momentum - if he's moving, he moves easily, but if he's stopped, he won't move!" he deftly dodged an attack and came to my aid.
"Alright, I'll draw him over, you freeze the ground, and then I'll slam him into the wall," I said.
"Why are you telling me my plan?" Iceman smiled. "At least you've got decent instincts!" He flash froze the ground as I let loose a blast of concentrated sound at the behemoth.
"Come on, ugly! I ain't done with you yet, bitch!" I taunted the beast.
"Ugly? You'll be no better by the time I'm done!" He came in wildly at me, intending to dipatch me with his next blow. I ran forward to meet his tackle above Rob's ice patch, I jumped, snapped my fingers, tipped him on the shoulder, and sent the giant flying into the wall. Bobby looked at me and smiled.
"Good work." Sediment began to shower down, and the tunnel began to shift. Bobby looked at me again, this time with a lot less smile. "Noob."
"You had the same instincts, you said!" I said with a look of exasperation.
"Yeah, but I woulda done it with class"
Amp, Aidan, Julia and I had our hands full with the Morlocks in front of us. Storm though was trying to calm the combatants behind the force field. The tunnel looked like it was going to crumble and we didn't have Jean to support the weight telekinetically. I was wondering though what the Morlock meant by "The One".
" I'll crush you, X-Man!" the red one clawed at me. He seemed to have diamond hard skin. "I, Mole will stop you."
I rolled my eyes. "That is so corny!" I tried to freeze him but he grabbed me and threw me up the nearest manhole.
Not only was this dude's skin hard, but he was superstrong. Definitely in the same class as Colossus. But, he wasn't as strong as the Hulk. I looked around and saw a crowd of people looking at me. A bunch of them shrieked but then again this was New York so the bulk of them basically went on with their lives. I couldn't blame them. I mean everything has already happened to this city.
" Hey, it's one of them superheroes!" a guy called.
"Which one is he?" another asked.
"Who cares..If ya ask me..they're all a buncha overated morons." the same guy replied.
I shook my head and found the Morlock standing over me. The crazy New Yorkers would have to wait. I tried to keep my ice form on to protect my identity.
" Maybe I should tell you I'm resistant to cold." he started. "I may have a stupid name but the One made me as I am. He will rule the world!"
He raised his claw like hand and I looked behind the guy to see a flaming figure. He was Johnny Storm aka Human Torch of the Fantastic Four. His flame glowed a bright red and yellow.
" Iceman..since he likes cold I'll warm him up for ya." He threw a fireball at the mutant. "I think this loser's trying to steal Mole Man's schtick."
I got up and brushed myself off. Good thing Torch was here or I'd have been toast. I froze up the hot areas of the dude's body and it seemed to work. Varying temperatures of hot and cold were making the mutant's skin crack.
" Nah..this is a Morlock." I explained. "Storm, a few newbies and I are trying to solve a problem down in the tunnels. Then Chuckles here threw me up the manhole."
"Leave it to the city to leave a manhole cover open!" Johnny quipped as he poured on the heat.
"Stop!" Mole cried. "I..I give."
He then ran back down the manhole cover. If he was smart he'd stay away from that fight.
The crowd seemed to love Johnny's antics as he and I stopped the Morlock. Fire and Ice seemed to work well together. Course, we X-Men were trying to get the good press the FF and the Avengers get.
" Thanks, Flamebrain." I smirked. "What're you doing here anyway?"
" Reed detected some weird energy signature in the Morlock tunnels. So, we all split up in different parts of the city to investigate." Johnny explained as he flamed off. "There's some weird stuff going on down there, B-..Iceman."
"I'm gonna get back down there to help the others." I started to go toward the manhole and turned back. "Wanna help us?"
"Sure. "Johnny shrugged. "We'd probably meet up with the others down there anyway."
I nodded and the two of us went back into the sewers. Johnny didn't like the sewers any more than I did. He and the FF usually do adventuring elsewhere.. It had to have been something big to bring them down into the Morlock Tunnels of all places. Amp and the others were holding their own in the fight. Johnny and I ran up to Storm.
"Those are the new mutants?" Johnny tilted his head. "Where's Sara?"
I sighed longingly. " She's back at the school. I hope things there are okay."
The Morlocks the others were fighting soon ganged up on us. We had to do something, fast!
" Ororo, we got problems." I started as I dodged the bad guys. "Tell her, Johnny."
" Reed's picked up strange ignatures coming from underground. He sent me and the others to check it out." Johnny explained. "That red mole guy kept babbling about "The One." I think they're connected."
" Perhaps, Johnathan." Ororo turned her focus toward the combatants, Kip and that new guy. "But unless they stop we can't go through to stop whatever it is that's causing the power signature."
The FF and the X-Men worked together many times before. We had to stop those two battling Morlocks and get to the source of the problem. It wouldn't be long now before the rest of the Fantastic Four get here.
Kip Jude, Gargoyle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kip's eyes locked onto Gavin's fiercely. He could keep Kip tied up like this for a while but not forever. It had to be taxing to keep both fields up and the longer they were, the weaker his hold on them would get. Kip would just have to wait it out until Wynder grew tired. Then he could attack it with everything he had, forcing Gavin to let go of them.

"I can wait longer then you can! Your shields can't keep the windrider at bay forever," Kip snarled at his former acquaintance.

"You don't understand. I wanted to joi......" Gavin began but was interrupted by the sounds of a fight brewing in the tunnel outside.

New voices could be heard. Voices Kip recognized all too clearly. He had spent months evading them, afterall.

"So it is an ambush! I knew it!" Kip howled.

"No...... I...... " Gavin was flustered. "Fine! I'll prove to you I'm not with them."

Suddenly both force fields vanished and Kip fell unceremoniously to the ground. He quickly drew up into a defensive stance, his head turning from the fight in the hall to Gavin. Back in forth it went for a few moments, debating what to do.

"We'll both go help your new friends. Maybe then you'll listen to me," Gavin sounded sincere as his voice pleaded.

Kip was torn about what to do. To try to join the fight in the tunnel he would be exposing his back to Gavin. His forcefields couldn't do much real harm but any foe can do serious harm to someone with their back turned. Still, the Morlocks in the tunnel fight were a greater offensive threat.

"Alright," Kip snorted as he bounded towards the door.

He was not surprised by what he saw....... except for the man on fire. That he hadn't expected. He surveyed the situation as he leapt to wall and then ceiling. He had taken in with a pretty capable bunch from the look of things. The only one who didn't seem to be on the attack was Eclipse. That was only because the twins were attacking her in unison not giving her time to move off the defensive. They were too well coordinated.

"Time to settle old debts!" Kip shouted.

He pushed off the ceiling and glided for a moment before pulling his wings in to dive. He tackled one of the twins from behind, knocking them off their rhythm. Eclipse took advantage immediately, clapping a funnel of wind to knock the other one off balance so she could deliver a thunderized punch.

Kip had the most experience with these two, of the Morlock hunters. His skin granted him a measure of protection from their electric bio-blasts but they were agile and great fighters. Fighting them together, Kip could only defend and flee. He had always wanted a shot at them one on one.

"Still got that scratch on your shoulder?" Kip hissed with a hint of enjoyment.

"The One healed us," she answered bitterly.

"Shame. I'll have to thank him," Kip spoke coyly, circling her on all four, ready to pounce.

Suddenly she made a jump to try and get past him to her sister. Together they were a terror. Apart, they were only a fraction of their potential. A fraction Kip and Aidan could easily overpower.

"Eclipse is taking good care of Twila. You're mine Nia!" and Kip pounced.

"Not if we have anything to say about it Gargoyle!" and she dropped back, waiting for his attack.

She went on the defensive quickly, trying to dodge in and out of his advances. Nia was a skilled fighter but her style depended to much on her twin Twila. Alone, she was no match for Kip's agility and strength. Their fight did not last long and when she was scratched up and out cold, Kip turned to see how everyone else was fairing. He found the fight already over.

"Gargoyle, huh?" the flaming man laughed a bit. "It really fits. Reminds me of someone we once knew, right Bobby?"

"Yeah," Iceman grinned as he looked at Kip as if for the first time. "Guess we know what your codename is now Kip!"

As the others were bombarded by one opponent, I was struck by two. Twins, to be exact and as a team, they quickly forced me on the defensive. I quickly dodged and blocked each of their attacks and blasts but I knew that with the way things were going, my increasing fatigue would be their advantage and with no hesitation, finish me off.
"What do you want with us?" I gasped, still hurriedly trying to defend myself.
"The One wants you gone," they both said in unison. "We obey without question."
Oh great, mindless drones, I thought sourly.

A few minutes later and I was almost out of steam. I was about to give up when I saw an orange blur and Kip knocked one of the twins out of balance. Not wanting to lose my chance, I thrusted my hands forward and sent a funnel of wind at the other, also knocking her off balance. Running forward, I swung my fist forward and sent an electric punch to the gut, sending her into the already-fragile wall. As she struggled to get up, I officially went on the offensive and threw as much power at her as I could muster. She tried to block the first couple of attacks but a kick to the gut sent her down for good.

I looked to see how Kip was doing but it looked like the battle was already over. In fact, everyone seemed to come out victorious and was somewhat relieved that everything was over.
"Gargoyle, huh?" A man that I just noticed laughed as flames surrounded him. "It really fits. Reminds me of someone we once knew, right Bobby?"
"Yeah," Iceman grinned as he looked at Kip. "Guess we know what your codename is now Kip!"
I frowned as I heard the name. I barely knew Kip but from what I could figure out, he was rather sensitive and guarded about how he was treated and how he looked. I didn't like the new codename myself but if he was fine with it, so be it.

I walked over to Kip and looked up at him, square in the face.
"Thank you for saving my hide. I probably would've been hurt badly if you didn't help me out."
I held out a hand as a sign of mutual respect, but I was unsure if he would take it.

With the fight over, the group could focus on other things. We had to find out what was behind the power fluxuation Johnny talked about, the Morlock situation and whoever "the One" is. Kip did remind me of the orignal Gargoyle. The guy was one of the Defenders a long time ago. Then he sort of vanished.

Aidan though seemed rather taken with Kip. That was alright. I wasn't about to judge people on appearances as my best friend looks like the cookie monster. We X-Men had to support all mutants no matter how strange they looked. After a bit of debate, I walked up to Gavin.

The students did alright in their first time out. They seemed to mesh together a lot like the rest of the X-Men. Teamwork was going to get them all very far in this life of an X-Man. Kip smiled after Aidan thanked him. Those two seemed to fit well together even though they've only known each other a short time.

" Gavin." I started. "Mind telling me who or what the One is? I doubt it's Mikhail Rasputin."

"No." he responded. "He and the others are still away. Only a few of us came here to fight Masque. Masque isn't the One."

" Can you tell us who it is?" Storm asked.

"He's down this hallway." Gavin explained. "Some of us have been trying to fight him. But, He has sent many Morlocks after Kip and myself."

"I hope you aren't bringing us into a trap." I told Gavin.

I wasn't sure what to make of Gavin. One second he was fighting Kip and the next he stops after the rest of us knocked the other Morlocks out. We saw other Morlocks along the way down the tunnel but they stayed away. They saw Storm and hid. I guessed they remembered her fight with Callisto. My old frieind, Johnny snapped his fingers. It was like he just remembered something.

" I'm gonna check in with the rest of the FF." Johnny stated. "If you guys need help.."

"Yeah, flamebrain..I'll call ya." I smirked.

Johnny nodded and flew out the tunnels to go report back to the others in the Fantastic Four. He was a good friend and after he flew out I could n'thelp but notice crates labelled "Terra Nova" near the door.

"Terra Nova?" I asked as I touched the crate.

"Could they be working with the One?" Storm asked.

"We don't know who they are." Kip responded.

"I hope they aren't behind this but We are going to see who's behind door number one." I snapped as I flash froze the wooden door and smashed it down.

From the doorway I could see loads of computers, screens and loads of technology that would make Hank jealous. Sitting at a computer was Exodus aka Bennet du Paris. He has psionic abilities and the ability to teleport. The way I figured it, he used his mental powers to control the Morlocks. But, what was he doing down here? He used to be one of Magneto's disciples in Avalon.

Exodus was wearing his gold and white cape along with armor that looked like Magneto's. A while back, Exodus was a member of the Acolytes, who were Magento's followers until they got killed or captured.

"Welcome X-." He started as he faced Storm and myself. "Excuse me..there seems to be only two real X-Men here. I recognize Storm and Iceman but not you children."

"We're branching out." I clenched my teeth.

"Now, now Iceman.."he laughed as he called forth more Morlocks. "If you come closer my mind controlled minions will distroy you. See I planned to create a new Avalon here in the sewers with the "help" of the Morlocks. "

"You planned to ressurect Avalon here?" Storm asked. "Why not go to Genosha and be with Magneto."

"Especially since you got his fashion sense." I quipped since I noticed the similar red and purple on Exodus's uniform. His orange face grew into a sinister smile.

"I'm glad Kip and Gavin escaped." Exodus grinned. "Saved me time to look for you."

Exodus then ordered more Morlocks to attack. My best guess is that he was behind the internal struggle of the Morlocks. He was probably controlling a couple factions with mind control.

I had taken my medication that morning, which may have been why I wasn't hearing so much as a peep out of Abaddon. That was good. However, the number of people in the house couldn't all be real. This Sara, however, seemed real enough.

"What about you, Katie?" I heard a woman's voice ask. I turned to the closest woman, who was standing right behind me... a tall woman with thick, curly red hair.
"Excuse me, did you ask me something?"
She shook her head and shrugged a little.
"My mistake, pardon me. Miss Sara, did you ask me something?"

Kip Jude, Gargoyle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone paused for a few moments to take stock after the battle ended. Kip twitched a bit as he heard the flaming man mention the name Gargoyle. It was a name he had grown used to a long time ago but it was still a bit of a painful reminder. When Iceman spoke on it though, something was different. Something about the way he looked at Kip when he suggested it made Kip feel that they would call him Gargoyle not out of hatred, fear or disdain but out of respect. Suddenly it didn't seem such a bad idea that he would be called Gargoyle just as Ororo was called Storm.
As he thought on this and the group was preparing to move on again, something happened that Kip wasn't prepared for. Eclipse........ Aidan, walked right up to him. She stood firm and looked right up into his eyes. She held out her hand and her face didn't betray even the slightest hint of apprehension about him.
"Thank you for saving my hide. I probably would've been hurt badly if you didn't help me out," she said sincerely.
Kip started to reach out his hand to take hers but stopped. He looked down at his hand, then at hers. The difference was unmistakeable. Her hands looked soft and human; Kip's looked hard and sharp like talons. Something inside his heart twinged with pain for a moment but the respect in Aidan's eyes made him reconsider. Kip, for the first time in the presence of the X-men, drew himself up to his full height. He dropped his wings and wrapped them around himself, clasping the claws in the front like a cloak.
Kip stood there, as straight as was possible for him, and held out his hand to shake Aidan's. As they shook he tried to manage a smile to show his appreciation. He wasn't sure it came off all that well. Smiling was not something he did very often and he felt he could hardly remember how.
"I'm sorry I couldn't help sooner," his voice was awkward but almost pleasant for a change. "Thank you for....... just........ thanks!"
And Kip lost his brief composure. The wings came unclasped and he dropped back to his normal posture. He couldn't grasp why but he suddenly felt a bit flushed. He jumped to the wall and crawled forward a few feet. He looked just over his shoulder so Aidan could barely see his deep violet eyes.
"We should stay even with the others," he said nervously.
As soon as she began moving he looked forward and continued his crawl along the wall. What was with him now? Being taken in at the X-mansion had exposed him to so many things that seemed alien to him. For the first time since he left the orphanage as a child of 6, most of the people around him had actually been trying to make the effort to make him feel at home. Aside from the nuns he could only remember two people who had ever done that and one of them he couldn't be sure he should trust right now as he was leading Kip's new friends back to the place he had fled half a year ago.
****
He watched and listened as Storm and Iceman talked with the ornately armored man standing before them. Slowly it seeped into him that this man was responsible for the Morlocks changing. This was the man who had led the other Morlocks to drive him from his home. Kip's blood began to boil as his anger rose to the surface.
"I'm glad Kip and Gavin escaped," Exodus exclaimed smugly. "Saved me time to look for you."
And to hear him say it like it was his plan for Kip to lead the X-men down into a trap. It was too much and just as Exodus was signalling for more Morlocks to attack, Kip leapt at Exodus full force with his claw-like hands poised to tear at him. A normal man would have been scarred for life. Exodus was far from normal.
As Kip's claws came within inches of the twisted man's face, an invisible force seemed to snatch him right out of the air. It grabbed him tightly and flung him like a ball towards the far wall. Just inches before he crashed into it, another invisible force seemed to grab him out of the air. This one he recognized, though.
"I gotcha!" he heard Gavin shouting.
"Throw me back at him and pop the shield at the last second," Kip shouted back at Gav.
It was the moment of truth for Gavin. If he helped Kip attack this usurper of the tunnels, he would prove he truly was on Kip's side. Kip was pleasantly surprised when the perfectly formed force field around him carried him with great speed back at Exodus.
They did not go unnoticed, however. As the force bubble flew near Exodus a telekinetic shield bounced Kip upwards. His focus was split however as he was also trying to fend off an attack from Storm. With a nod from Kip, Gavin released the forcefield.
Kip was a good ten feet above Exodus and off to his side. While the former Acolyte focused on deflecting Storm's fury, Kip dove at him with all his might. Exodus looked up just in time to see an orange blur crashing down upon him.
The two rolled, Kip's claw-like fingers raking across Exodus' back clear through the armor as they crumpled sideways. Exodus let out a howl of pain as he spun back to his feet. Kip was poised on all four ready to pounce again. Exodus hurled a chunk of the wall that had been dislodged by the battle at Kip with telekinetic rage. Kip just managed to slide his body sideways as he pounced at Exodus, letting it sail just by him.
Kip's strike was true and this time his claws raked across his opponent's chest. He could see blood but he could also see that Exodus had now lost all patience. He was in pain and he was infuriated that a young mutant like Kip could even touch him, even if it was only because he was also dealing with attacks from Storm.
"Worthless gargoyle!" Exodus' voice boomed with rage.
Suddenly Kip was thrown straight back against the nearest wall with crushing force. Pain seared through his entire body. As if that wasn't enough he was then hurled with full force clear across the room to the far wall. As Kip's vision went black he caught a brief glimpse of two bolts of lightning hitting a bewildered and enraged Exodus. Two bolts coming from completely different directions. Then he passed out from the pain as his body bounced off the wall from Exodus' telekinetic throw.
"I was just asking you to tell me about yourself. If you don't mind that is Katie," I replied.
"Well..." Nervously, Katie told us a bit about her life, growing up with her ability. It was certainly a very strange ability to have...I just hoped that we would be able to help her here at the school.
"No need to worry Katie, we're all friends here. We're not here to judge, only to help."
"Thank you..."
I stood up. "Come with me ladies. I have something to show the two of you."
I led the two girls to Hank's lab. There was a control panel in the far room and I took the girls over there.
"Now I'm sure the two of you have your opinions on not being called to the mission so I thought you two might like to see how the others are getting on."
I punched a few code into the machine and the screens sprung to life. We were presented with two different scenes, spread across eight screens.
"Storm and Icemen have a small camera fitted into their uniforms so that we can monitor their battles. With the ever-increasing threat of anti-mutant attacks it was decided we needed a more effective way to keep an eye on the whereabouts of our teams. It also comes in handy as a training module."
"Miss Sara?" Katie asked. "How exactly does this help with our training?"
"Well Katie, by watching these scenes, we can learn about the fighting styles of both the enemy and our allies. It helps for us to better co-ordinate attacks."
"I see."
I turned to the nearest screen to see Bobby getting knocked up a sewer and into the middle of New York and a group of its many citizens. I saw the morlock stand over him, I prayed that something would happen, that someone would save him...and then Johnny showed up. I breathed a heavy sigh of relief and turned to Corelia. "Sorry, I forgot to ask if you had any questions."
Katie had managed to tell her story without mention of any of us. The little coward continued to pretend we simply didn't exist, rather than face up to the less-than-perfect parts of her own soul. Her new teammates had left her behind to be babysat- typical. That bald-headed cripple probably suspected that there was more to her than met the eye... either that, or the human Sno-Cone thought she was too spacey to be even remotely reliable. Maybe both. I sighed slightly. The corridors of Katie's mind were a dull place. Thousands of doors constantly opening and closing, rooms holding the memories of a million dreams, the ashes of a billion nightmares. My domain was overflowing with a seeping darkness she simply couldn't control. The more nightmares she witnessed, the stronger I grew, and the shorter my wait became. Sharing a mind with three others was too crowded and I wanted an actual body, something Katie fought hard not to give me. But nightmares were patient things, and I could certainly wait to escape. And the torture she went through while I stayed in her made the wait more than worthwhile...
"I'm sorry I couldn't help sooner," his voice was soft for a moment. "Thank you for....... just........ thanks!"
He quickly took his hand back and jumped onto a wall, scuttling forward. I knew it was tough for him to let down his guard but it was important to get him to starting to trust the others. Someone just had to do it first.
We caught up with the others, who were standing around while Storm and Bobby were talking with a guy named Exodus. Apparently, he was the one who were controlling the Morlocks and seemed rather glad that Kip and Gavin escaped. I took a step back as Kip unexpectedly lunged at Exodus, who stopped him at the last second and flung him backwards. As he flew back, Storm went on the attack and hurled bolts of lightning at the psychic mutant. The rest of us just watched as Kip bounced back and clawed at Exodus, who screamed and flung him away towards a wall.
I don't know why, but as he hit the wall, a ball of rage that was idly sitting in the pit of my stomach suddenly rose, bringing forth a surge of energy that revitalized my exhausted body. Muffling a scream, I shot a bolt of electricity from my right palm as Storm struck at the same time from across the way. In that time, Kip was flung across the tunnel and hit a wall again, ricocheting off of it. Throwing out an electric net, I struggled to keep him from hitting the hard ground, although he was knocked out by that point.
Laying him gently on the ground, I turned my focus back towards Exodus, who was being bombarded by the rest of the team. Only able to focus on a few things at a time, he was being hit left and right, probably struggling to keep his hold on the Morlocks at the same time. I took a deep breath and began to focus my powers into a ball, nestling in-between my hands. I watched it gain form and power until it stopped growing, looking like a big beach ball. Hurling it at the already-damaged Exodus, I grimly watched in satisfaction as it struck, causing him to roar in pain. Almost tapped out of energy and power, I slumped against the wall and watched the others try to finish him off.
I smiled as Aidan did her fair share of work. Aidan was impressive. I had to admire that as she provided enough of a distraction for Exodus to begin to lose control of the Morlocks. I saw her float toward Kip. I signaled over to her to keep an eye on him as I froze this six-armed mutant advancing on me.
"Dude...someone else already has that gimmick!" I shouted.
"Focus on the task at hand!" Storm ordered as she continued to pour the electricity onto Exodus.
Storm was right. The others could handle the Morlocks. I was going to try something I've done once before. It was a trick I did back when I was in X-Factor when Warren first became Apocalypse's Horseman, Death. I concentrated and created three ice duplicates of me surrounding Exodus.
"Three Ice-men?" Exodus winced in pain. "I see I may have my hands full.."
"You'll be seeing stars in a minute!" I called from behind him, hitting him with a giant sized ice-fist.
"Nice one, Drake." Amp nodded.
Exodus finally lost control of the Morlocks! Amp , Gavin and Julia ran to check on Aidan and Kip once their opponents realized what they were doing and left.
"Th-the Morlocks?!" he gasped. "I was only able to control them for so long. You may have one this round, X-Men. I'll be back with others. You have no idea what's in store!"
Exodus used his power of teleportation to leave the room. All that was left was the computer room and the rest of us. Storm landed and began walk to a control terminal when four more figures appeared from the doorway. It was the Fantastic Four. Johnny must have met up with them. I noticed him, his sister Suzie and Reed stretching his way in.
"Cripes, Drake..didya haveta have all the fun?" Ben Grimm, the orange rock skinned one came in first expected a fight. "Johnny said somethin' 'bout a lotta Morlocks an' you needin' help."
"Benjamin.." Sue sighed. "Iceman, Storm and these heroes I don't recognize did a decent job. The city owes you! "
Sue Storm-Richards was really nice and quite possibly the most powerful member of the team.
"Great." I chuckled as I looked over to Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four and one of the most brilliant minds on the planet. "What did we save the city from?"
Reed looked over at one of the computers and typed in some commands. "Apparantly, whoever was in charge here planned to use the Morlocks to invade the city. If that were to happen, we'd have been too distracted from a major threat and that..I don't know. But, it does explain the power fluxation I noticed earlier."
"Saw some crates that said "Terra Nova" on them." I explained. "Maybe there's some files on it in there."
"Maybe." Johnny nodded. "Or there could be porn. Who knows?"
"Can it, flamebrain.." Ben grumbled.
I looked over the computer and downloaded files Hank could check out later. He'd have his hands full with things. It was time for us to go back to the mansion. Reed then went back to work on the other files on the computer. I didn't know what he had planned but it's best not to stop Reed Richards from working.
"Not a bad first mission, crew." I nodded. "I'm sorry the other ladies couldn't make it but I'm sure they will next time."
"Please come with us to the mansion, Gavin and we can get you cecked out." Storm explained. "You've been through a lot and I figured you would not want to leave Kip alone."
Gavin nodded and we waved bye to the Fantastic Four. In a lot of ways they were the first group to usher in the modern age of heroes. I admired them a great deal. Johnny's always been a great friend to me. I can only imagine Sara's reaction to the video feed of the mission. At least, we're not getting a ride home in the Fantasticar. That flying bathtub of theirs couldn't hold all of us.
Kip healed enough to be able to walk and I had Amp and Aidan help him as we walked back home. After a bit of walking, we got to the access tunnels to the mansion and I opened the door to see Sara.
"Saw the battle, Bobby." she smiled. "Beginning to think I picked the wrong superhero after Johnny saved your butt."
I de-iced and hugged her. I was so glad to see her! I did though have a response after I gave her a big kiss.
"Well you, know..Johnny's gay. I mean he is flamin' all the time." I joked.
Finally, I was at the place I'd been travelling to. And about time too, I was out of money, and I was getting hungry again. Pressing the button on the intercom, I spoke out, "Hello? Anyone there?" I hoped they'd take me in, I couldn't think of anywhere else to go, definitely not with some of the groups I'd met that tried to recruit me.
Our group dropped Kip and Aidan off at the med-lab after meeting up with Sara and the ladies and after I gave her the biggest hug and a kiss ever. After we got to the med-lab, I noticed Kip getting up to leave after being checked out. I wasn't sure what he was doing but I knew he'd be okay on the grounds by himself. I thought nothing of it as the school had many, many people here. It was good for him to explore, I guessed.
" Hmm.." Hank scratched his chin as he looked at the security camera "There seems to be someone at the door upstairs."
" Sara and I'll go check it out." I nodded.
" Lead the way, snowman." Sara grinned. Her smile brightened my day. I was so lucky to have her.
"The Prof'll join you up there in a bit." Hank replied. " He was in Cerebro and I think he sensed someone coming."
"Okay." I nodded and handed Hank the disc we got at the tunnels. "We got some stuff for you to analyze. The FF was there helping us too. Something about power fluxuations and stuff. You know Reed..yap yap yap."
Hank let out a chuckle and took the disk.. Between him, Tony Stark and Reed Richards they had quite a think tank. All they needed to add was Hank Pym and Bruce Banner.
" I'll be sure to unlock the mysteries of this oracle of Delphi fo you, Bobby." Hank nodded. "But, you and Sara should go meet that kid at the front door. It's only polite after all."
Sara and I went upstairs talking about things that went on in the mission. I really wanted to get some alone time with Sara and talk about stuff. But, that was going to have to wait. We had this potential new student coming in.
Several of the others were out on a mission. I didn't see Cyke, Rogue, Gambit, Jean and Pete while walking up to the main doors. The professor's voice rang in our heads telling us that this person wasn't a threat to us. He joined us after leaving his study.
I opened the door and saw a kid no older than nineteen standing there. He seemed to be built like Colossus. I wondered what he was doing here.
" Hello." I started and realized I was still in my uniform. " Welcome to the Xaiver Institute. Can we help you?"
The guy scratched the back of his head nervously, before replying, "Yeah, I was wondering if I could attend, I'd heard some good things about this place from others like... us. Name's Dennis, Dennis Loray."
I stood there, observing the fact the guy was in a uniform of some sort. He must do some superhero work or something. Probably one of those X-Men, if the X meant anything. What seemed like an eternity, but was really only a couple seconds passed before he replied.
"Welcome. I'm sure you can attend. Our headmaster, Professor Xaiver sensed you coming." Bobby replied. "This place can really help with any problem you have."
Dennis chuckled, "That's good, 'cause I'm broke, and I eat a lot more than I used to."
"Well, there's plenty of food in the cafeteria." Bobby nodded. "But first let me introduce you to our mentor. Professor Charles Xaiver." His friendly manner helped calm my nerves as a man in a wheelchair came forward, and the pretty lady tapped him on the shoulder.
"And this lovely lady is Sara." Bobby smiled at her. Then the Professor spoke up.
"This school." Xaiver began. "will help you develop your powers to the fullest in order to protect a dream of human and mutant unity. We teach mutants and also protect a world that fears and hates us. Bobby and Sara here are two members of the X-Men. A team dedicated to perserving the dream, protecting humanity from its enemies and teaching mutants, like yourself."
"Well," I began to state, "Looks like I came to the right place then." I smiled, their friendly demeanors helping get past my nervousness.
Bobby and I had greeted our newest member at the front door. I liked Dennis straight off, he seemed like a really nice guy and I was sure he was going to fit in here perfectly. Our group just kept getting bigger and bigger didn't it?
"Well Dennis you must be hungry. I'll show you to the cafeteria and then to your room, how does that sound?"
"That sounds great. Thankyou."
I turned to Bobby. "Why don't you go upstairs and take a shower, you smell like a sewer. I'll meet you there okay."
"Sure thing." He went to hug me but I stopped him. A bit late, he'd already hugged us continuously since he'd got back but I just felt like emphasising my point. "I'll see you upstairs."
Bobby took off upstairs and the Professor parted from us with a polite smile. I opened up the kitchen for Dennis to take up his fill. We talked a bit, Dennis telling me about his life in Ohio before he discovered that he was mutant. At least had been lucky enough to have some sort of normal life.
"All the rooms are upstairs," I explained. "We're trying to keep everyone on the same floor but it's starting to get kinda crowded." I stopped outside one of the rooms. "This room's yours. You'll have it all to yourself but I can't promise it'll stay that way, like I said before we've been finding ourselves with quite a few new mutants on our hands. You might just end up with your very own roomate."
"I don't mind. Thankyou very much for all this."
"Don't mention it. If you need anything else Bobby and I are just three doors down. Oh and if you do need us, don't forget to knock first. It's for your own good, trust me."
I left Dennis to sort out his room and went to see Bobby. He was really happy to see me and hugged me immediately. I could tell he hadn't been out of the shower long, he had that warm, soapy smell about him. We cuddled up on he sofa.
"I missed you today," I told him. "You know I don't like it when you go on missions."
"You could always come you know."
"I wouldn't be much use..."
"Of course you would. You saved my butt enough times."
I smiled briefly. "You know I don't like to use my powers unless I have to. I don't want anybody getting hurt and -"
Bobby squeezed my hand and stroked my face softly. "I know and it's okay. It's your choice."
I hugged him tightly. "Thanks Bobby. Thanks for understanding."
= Scout =
Bobby had told me I was being paranoid. I didn't think so. Seriously! This cold could so be some kind of an pneumonia! What did he know anyway...
I sat nonchalantly and sniffling at regular intervals. First day on the job and I get sick! Blast it... As long as I was here I might as well do some nosing around the joint. Of course, my nose was a little out of it. Heh.
I camoflauged and stalked carefully down to where Katie was. She didn't sense me, or at least she didn't turn to where I was. I could still see strings of that ethereal presence in her. Surely she didn't have the same scouting ability. It was something different.
The colors were vivid, personalities possibly? I had been around the block and I had once been friends with someone who had split personality disorder. The strands were coming from her heart, her soul? That seemed impossible, but I had noticed earlier how jittery she was to tell Sara her story and how she had the look of almost adding things at times but never did. Is this what she was hiding? Did she know I knew?
My questions were answered as I noticed the purple string reaching farther than it should be, it was coming toward me! God bless, this didn't look good.
I looked around for an option but there wasn't any. There wasn't much of an escape route, I would just have to run. Before I could make it away I noticed two black eyes appear within the foggy tentacle and a sinister voice shouted into my mind. "Hello, darling." That voice! It enveloped my very heart and squeezed! I raised my hand to my head and fought back images from my past. The worst memories...
Katie was suddenly out of her daze and I saw the strain in her eyes and the sweat beaded on her forehead. The purple strand was pulled back to the others and she tenatively turned to exactly the spot I was hovering. "Who's there?" The question echoed, and when she got no answer she walked away, taking one last double take.
Phew. I knew I couldn't tell about something as big as this, I might be a spy but I preferred to refrain from being a snitch. Was there someway I could help her? I didn't know, and at the moment all I longed for was my nice warm bed. I quickly fleeted back to my sickbed and snuggled in, the sniffles getting worse. My nap was restless.
I looked around inside my room, it was nice, not overly done, two beds, two desks, as well as a couple closets and a bookshelf for each side. It was odd to be settling down after wandering around, but, it wasn't too bad. I carefully sat down on the bed, thinking about times gone by. I certainly had come a long way, and the people seemed nice enough. Perhaps I could learn great enough control of my body to counterract my tremendous strength. If not, I feared what could happen.
Only time would tell...
" Any time, Sara." I kissed her hand.
I really understood why she didn't want to use her powers. I've seen the blasts and they even seemed more powerful that Cyclops or Havok's. At least she had control and I admired her for it and her courage. I tilted my head and looked deeply into Sara's eyes. I wanted to talk to her about marriage and the right time to propose.
"I love you." I added. "Of course I understand. I also want to marry you. Been trying to think of the right way to propose for days now."
"I hope this isn't it." she responded with her dry wit.
" Nah. " I shook my head. "It just feels right ,you know. To talk about it. On the mission, I thought about us a bit. This morning I came so close to asking and then we got called away. I'm also beginning to think the Prof knows what I want to do. He kind of smiled at us when we were talking to that Dennis kid."
Sara smiled and shook her head. "Yeah. I noticed it when the Prof and I talked this morning. It's like he's expecting something."
" Well, everyone's been nice to us as always." I started. "I guess they figured I'd get off my frosty butt and do something about it. And I intend to. I talked to Pete and he said to do it when the time is right."
"And what time is the right time?" she asked.
"Now. Next week." I smiled. "All that really matters is that we're together. The X-Men though are gonna have to be patient and wait. Who knows what's gonna happen but I just know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. The others have seen me at my worst but somehow you make things better and make more sense."
Sara then kissed me deeply. It felt so good and luckily I didn't smell like Manhatten sewer any more. "Just promise me one thing Bobby. Promise me it'll be a surprise."
"Of course it will, Sara." I nodded. "When you least expect it, the Snowman'll come through in a pinch. I'm glad we had this talk. I would have talked to Scott but seriously those who waited so very, very long."
"Good thing we aren't like them then." she sighed.
I nodded, leaned in and kissed her so deeply that I thought we were going to be stuck like that forever. She had to have felt my stomach grumble. I was rather hungry.
"You hungry, Snowman?" Sara asked.
"Yeah." I nodded. "Let's get ready to go out. Night in Salem Center'd do us good. Or do you wanna go to Manhatten? Sans sewer?"
Sara smiled and we got up. We walked to our group of students who were all gathered in the common room downstairs talking to each other. I still didn't see Kip. I wasn't sure what he was up to. That was okay. I didn't need to mother hen them.
"Congrats again on your mission, troop." I smiled. "I hope you learned a lot. Umm..Sara and I are going to go out a while."
"So, here's my cell phone number." Sara gave out a card with the number. "In case anyone needs to talk or if something happens at the mansion, call us."
I looked at the cell phone as it was clipped to the pocketbook. It had a large silver S on it.
"Stark Enterprises?" I asked. "When did you meet Tony Stark?"
"I want to make Warren a bit jealous. Just to show him he isn't the only billionaire I like." she smiled coyly and walked outside the front door.
"Face it, Bobby Drake." I said aloud. "You hit the jackpot."
"Umm..I guess we'll be seeing ya?" Amp asked.
"Yup." I nodded. "Time to just relax for the time being. A team's out on a mission. Not much for the rest of us to do. See ya later!"
I ran outside and caught up with my lady love. It was time to unwind after the events of the last two days. I really needed this. I hoped the students understood. Sara and I borrowed one of the cars. A nice cherry red convertible.
"So, where to, Iron Woman?" I smiled as I put my shades on.
I punched his arm playfully. Bobby had always been a joker, heck the guy had been telling jokes since the day we met. I had never told anybody but it was Bobby's humour that had first attracted me to him. Well, the guy was cute too.
"There's a place outside of town we could go. Remember? Where we had our first date?"
"Harry's it is." Bobby replied. "I was thinking the same thing."
We got to Harry's Hideaway in record time. The place was a nice small restaurant and bar. It was a nice place just outside of Salem Center. It was close enough to the mansion that we could get back in no time flat. We got out of the car and got to our seats. It's been months since we were here last. I looked around and Bobby managed to get us a nice table in the corner.
"Nice night for us to unwind I think." Bobby smiled the smile that just melted my heart. "Seems like forever since we last went out."
"I know." I replied and held Bobby's hand. "Mission after mission with no downtime gets kind of boring. Guess that's why the Prof wants us to lookk after a bunch of kids."
"It's okay." Bobby went to nod but these three angry looking men appeared from behind Bobby. Bobby saw a scared look on my face and turned around.
"Can I help you?" Bobby asked.
"Yeah, kid..we want some action with this hot brunette. I think she wants all three of us." one grunt growled and shoved Bobby off the chair.
The manager tried to do something but one of the dude's friends grabbed him and threatened everyone in Harry's Bobby's eyes glowed ice blue for a second and I noticed a slight chill in the air.
"Duke you feel cold?" the one who hit Bobby said to the leader.
"Nah..this woman's makin' me all HOT." Duke moaned like he and I were having sex. His teeth were yellow and had he had a seriously bad breath.
"I wouldn't do that.." Bobby winced.
I stood up and backed off slowly shaking my head at Bobby. He couldn't use his powers here, not in front of all these people.
"I think it's time we had a little fun, wouldn't ya say?" said the one wih yellow teeth.
He grabbed me suddenly, I tried to fight him off but he was way stronger than I was. I tried to use my powers instead but I was too scared. I didn't want to be scared, I spent too long being scared but I just couldn't help it. All this, it reminded me of things in my past, things I wanted to forget.
He carried me outside, kicking and screaming. I tried to hit him back but he only hit me harder and threw me to the ground. I screamed for Bobby as he came closer. I curled up into a tight ball and closed my eyes, fearing what would come next. The thought was distressing enough on its own.
But nothing happened.
I looked up slowly to see him stood there, cased completely in ice with Bobby standing behind him. Bobby ran over and took me in his arms, he held me close and I cried into his shoulder.
"It's ok now, you're safe."
"I was so scared. I tried and I tried but I couldn't do anything. I thought he was gonna -" I couldn't finish before I burst into tears again.
Bobby rocked me gently. "I know baby. I got them good okay? I stopped them for you. You're safe now. Nothing's gonna hurt you." he wiped the tears from my face with his soft hands. They were still cold.
"I don't know what I'd do without you Bobby."
"Hey it's ok. Besides I still owe ya one don't I?"
We both laughed.
"Bobby..."
"Sara..."
"Let's get married," we both said it, right there, right then. It was the most romantic setting but it didn't matter. All I knew was that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. It was that simple.
Bobby laughed. "Heck I bought a ring and everything." he pulled a small black box from his pocket.
I laughed too and preceeded to produce a similar, blue box. "Hey guess what Bobby. So did I."
------------
We placed the rings on each other's fingers and kissed for a bit as soon as a police officer appeared. He seemed to be a typical New York state trooper. He had a bristling moustache and a posture that just screamed "Boy Scout". His uniform was puce green and he seemed to delight in twirling his nightstick around.
"Bobby?" Sara asked. "I feel so lucky to have you."
"I feel the same way." I replied. "Someone's gonna have to come and clean up this-"
"Son, you mind telling me why this thug here is frozen solid?" He began as he finally got to us. and interupted me
Way to kill the mood, flatfoot I thought.
" Well, officer.." I began. "It was probably that super-criminal Blizzard. He ran past here froze the punk after he tried to assault my fiancée."
" A likely story.." he grunted. "How you know about them supervillians anyway?"
A purple haired woman I recognized pulled up near us in her car. She appeared to be Asian but I knew she was really British. The story of how that happened was really confusing. Nevertheless, Elisabeth Braddock aka Psylocke narrowed her eyes and a pink halo appeared over the cop's head.
" Well, there's no problem here as far as I can see." the cop smiled warmly. "I guess I'll just take this loser in and his buddies too. They been buggin' Harry's for weeks now."
"Very good, officer." Sara smiled.
"You kids have a nice night." the officer walked away with the criminals and drove off.
Elisabeth or Betsy as the rest of us X-Men called her stepped out of the car and we walked over.
" Hey, Betts." I smiled. "Thanks for the save."
"Any time, Bobby." Betsy shook her head. "I saw you both on Cerebro and came over as fast as I could. These people won't have memory of what happened. Sorry about those gits, though."
Bets was really powerful as a telepath, hoever, she was not as powerful as Jean or the Prof but she had her own special brand of powers. She could create a psychic katana and has ninja training to boot. She and Warren used to date too so she was alright in my book.
"Bets!" Sara smiled and extended her left hand. "Bobby and I are engaged!"
"Oh Boy..." I looked up at the sky. "She's gonna tell everyone telepathically, right?"
"Congrats!" Bets hugged me and Sara. " I knew this was coming, some day. We all did!"
" Scott and everyone'll be thrilled once they get back." I smiled. "But, thanks Bets. Sara and I are really happy."
"We should get back to the mansion." Bets smiled as she motioned to some onlookers looking at ice melting on the parking lot. "I'll take this car back and follow me."
We got back into the convertible and followed Bets back to the mansion. I guessed we were going to get food there. I was still sort of hungry. Sara and I got in and saw Dennis waiting for us.
"Hey, guys." Dennis waved. "I was wondering if you guys could test out my powers."
I lounged around for a bit, doing some thinking about what had been said upon my arrival, The X-men, who use their powers to defend both humans and mutants... They use their powers for a cause they believe in.
I held up my hands, looking at them, Maybe they've got the right idea there. Power does nothing if not used, and why not use it to benefit others? I have this strength, why not use it to help people?
Getting up, I walked to the entrance, looking for someone to consult about that, they'd probably want to test out my powers. Eventually, after I had a snack, really a small lunch to most people, I waited at the doorway and saw Bobby and Sara walking up. "Hey guys." I waved. "I was wondering if you guys could test out my powers."
"Sure thing, Dennis." Bobby began. "Let's get you down to the Danger Room. It's our holographic training facility."
"Heh, Danger Room? Nice nickname." I replied.
Sara and Bobby exchanged a glance and smiled at me. "Yeah. But, you'll see why we call it that." They then led me down to the sub-basement.
Walking into a certain door down there, they entered the control room, and I entered the main room, which looked like it had nothing in it, but they HAD said holographic so, that wasn't suprising.
Then, humanoid robots began to materialize around me. They certainly looked ready to fight. I stood ready, letting them take the first move. Suddenly, one of them ran up and hit me from behind, not really hurting, not enough for a bruise at least, whirling around, I grabbed it's arm and yanked, ripping it off. Using my makeshift club, I smashed it into another one of them, taking the two out. Turning my attention to the remaining three, they began to take more cautious movements.
I guess it's my turn to attack. I thought, rushing at the one in the middle, tackling it, and slamming it against the wall, taking it out as well. Then, I had an idea. Grabbing and ripping off one of it's metal plates, I began crumpling it up into a ball, unfortunately, they took advantage of the little bit of time this took to get in a hit on me.
Finishing the makeshift sphere, I took it and threw it like a baseball, sending it hurtling at one of the remaining two, taking off its head. Feeling fresh confidence, as well as the adrenaline high, I taunted the remaining robot, "C'mon, show me what ya got!"
Dennis seemed he had quite a lot of power. I was really impressed by him and the others of the team. I checked the logs to see if Katie or Scout made use of the Danger Room recently. They hadn't. Sara must have just showed them the ropes or something.
"Alright, Den.." I smirked. "How about we just take it easy for now. Here's a large holographic switch. I'm gonna ask you to push it in order to measure your strength level."
Sara set up a large hologram of a switch. We were going to see just how strong he was. If he was on par with Colossus, he could help a lot of people.
"Alright. I want you to push this as hard as you can." Sara spoke into the intercom. "Are you ready?"
Dennis rubbed his hands together and said, "Alright! Let's get to it!" He then approached and began to push on it.
I gradually added resistance an he pushed harder and harder. His strength did seem on par with Colossus.
"Stronger than a locomotive..." I chuckled. "Alright. That's enough for now. I'm going to have Hank and the Prof look at the results. You did good but now it's time for a rest."
Dennis sighed and headed back up to the control room. He then waved to us and left to go somewhere else on campus. I wasn't sure where he was going. I began to type commands into the Danger Room to shut it down when Sara spoke.
"Hey Bobby?" Sara leaned over toward me as I typed in the computer. "I'm going to go find Betsy. I want to talk girl talk with her. Basically to keep the engagement on the q-t until later."
"Okay." I got up and kissed her. "Knowing our group they'd throw an impromptu party. A veritible who's who of heroes would be there."
"Exactly." Sara raised her index finger. "Not ready to party with the teams. Not yet. I do wanna talk to Betsy though."
"Alright." I kissed Sara deeply. "I'll be down here and then I'll head up to the room...Waiting with bated breath for the greatest super-heroine alive."
"Are you dating She-Hulk behind my back?" Sara sarcastically joked.
I laughed and leaned in to kiss her. "It's you, silly. Just kiss me."
Sara left and blew a kiss to me. She was so pretty. I was lucky to have her. I smiled and went back to work on the computer. I left to go to back up to the room after I turned the Danger Room off for the night. I wondered what tomorrow was going to bring. I passed the group of my students talking and said I'd see them tomorrow. Julia waved bye and went to talk to Tank.
I saw the Prof just after he exited the study. The man was like a father to me. I had to say hi.
"Hey, Prof." I smiled. "Sorry I didn't say much to you since I got back. Sara and I been wanting some alone time."
The prof's smile was warm and inviting. "Of course, Bobby. How are you handling the students?"
"They're a great bunch." I nodded. I tried to hide my new ring but that was hard. "Ororo probably told you how well a few of them did. I am kind of concerned about Katie and Scout."
"Yes, I've been in constant contact with Moira." the Prof explained. He and Dr. McTaggert went way back. They even dated. "She's been well..worried about the personalities resurfacing. We better keep an eye on her."
"Yeah." I nodded. "I've noticed she hasn't gone into the Danger Room. Neither has Scout."
"Don't push them too hard, Bobby." The Prof placed a hand on my shoulder. "Just guide them like I guided you."
"Thanks, Prof." I smiled as I headed upstairs. I wondered when the others would be getting back. The mansion seemed oddly empty with so few X-Men in the core mansion, tonight. I also wondered if the Prof knew what Sara and I have been up to.
I got to my room and my cell phone went off. I heard a voice mail. It was from Johnny.
"Bobby? I hope you and Sara are okay. Reed's almost done analyzing the stuff from the Morlock tunnels. We're gonna call Hank and compare notes. We found some weird stuff and I wanted to let you know ahead of time. Talk to ya soon!"
I guess tomorrow we were going to get a video call from the Baxter building. I wondered why they wanted to call us. I half wanted to call New York but it was kind of late. I was going to have to wait. I looked out the window and behind me, Kitty appeared through the floor.
"Bobby Drake, stargazer. Doesn't fit you, popsicle." Kitty exclaimed and it made me jump.
"Kitty?!" I was a bit startled. "What's up? Aside from you sneaking around."
"Nothing." Kitty giggled. "So, did you propose?"
I laughed nervously and hid my hands behind my back. I prayed Sara would get up here soon before Kitty sicked Lockheed on me to fish the truth out.
We had only been the "new crowd" for a bit, but things were already getting interesting.
I was glad I was able to accompany the rest of the group on the morlock mission. I was very happy to get to fight, something i generally didnt do, but I knew that now, I was part of a team, and I had to do all I could to help the team.
After we returned to the mansion, everyone just seemed to split apart. Sara and Bobby went away together(as would be expected, i mean, i really did expect something to happen between those two), Aide and Kip walked off together. They seemed to be getting close as well.
There was also something new upon our arrival, a new student, named Dennis.
I was very curious about Dennis, he was very handsome, and so I decided to pursue.
Bobby led him into the danger room, and thus I followed, and watched him pummel those robots.
"Hmmm, he seems powerful, not unlike myself."
I walked out before he had finished. "You know, stalking is considered a crime"
I jumped. Kitty Pride, another mutant whose abilities were much like my own in that she could sift through solid objects. My only limitation was that the object had to be transparent, or of the same color of my clone.
"He is cute," she said, looking Dennis over. With a giggle, she left through the ceiling.
I walked out into the main yard and looked around, it was a really nice day. The sun was shining brightly, and I absorbed some of the light. I sat down under the shade of a tree.
As I sat, I watched Dennis walk back into the hall, and come out. I quickly withdrew from my spot, and hid behind the tree, peering out.
"Hmmm, I wonder how much fun I can have here."
I concentrated my powers and split myself once again into my 7 clones, this time I was the green one.
I had the blue one blend into the sky, and the yellow one blend into the sunlight, and they both moved over to Dennis and tapped him. He had only a quick lapse and dissapeared. The red and purple did the same thing, only they were a little more cisible. This left orange and myself, the green one. I made the orange one run around him, and then dissapear itself. By this time, he was confused and intrigued.
Now, as I was composed of light, I could be absorbed by anything green. Grass was perfect and I sifted down into the grass nad reappeared behind him.
I tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and I said, "Hi."
Chuckling, I turned and looked over the girl, she had red hair, and green eyes, maybe a bit pale, but that didn't matter. I wasn't sure what her mutant power was, but I bet I could find out.
But first... "Hello, and what might your name be?" I inquired of her.
She blushed, replying, "Julia, but most people know me as White Light"
I smiled, replying, "I think I'll call you Julia, it's a much prettier name."
"And you're Dennis, I watched you in the danger room, you're pretty good." She stated.
"I can see how you could do that, making clones out of.. Light?" I hazarded a guess, considering the colors that I had seen.
"Yes, light, hence the name 'White Light'" She answered, holding up a globe of light.
"Well, I'm not sure what codename I'll have, I'm still thinking on that one, got any ideas?" Dennis asked.
OOC: And now to begin another storyline..
Lousie Grant-Calloway (Blonde Phantom)
-------------------------
Los Angeles changed a lot since the 1940s. I should know. I was one of the heroes of the so-called "Golden Age" during World War II when we knew who the good guys and the bad guys were. I've lived through it all and saw old friends and my husband Tom aka the Angel die of old age. I should have joined them but I recently de-aged back to my prime. I do take some comfort that Namor and Captain America are still around, though.
I sat in my apartment looking at old pictures. Tom had someone else take his name in the years since the "Big One". A mutant with wings like an angel so at least the name fitted him. I wasn't sure what to make of them but I knew they had to be accepted. If they weren't then we were no better than the Nazis myself and the others fought.
Then there was this blonde kid calling himself the Human Torch. Funny thing was that the kid was actually human and not an android like Jimmy Hammond. I shook my head and closed the old photo album. By all rights I should be in my nineties but I looked like I was in my thirties. I guessed if Cap could freeze himself, I could get de-aged thanks to that green skinned heroine She-Hulk.
"Mutants, monsters and marvels." I smiled nostalgically as I turned on the television. "If only you could see this, Tom."
I saw the news and they showed goings on in New York City. Someone taped three heroes going after some gargoyle like creature. One was covered in ice, another had metal claws and the third...the third looked familiar. I knew all three to be members of the X-Men, who were some kind of mutant rights group. I got up to take a closer look at the brunette in the black spandex. Didn't these heroes wear masks any more?
" She...she looks like me!" I realized as I paused the image. "How is that possible? My children are grown. She has my natural hair color, my eyes and Oh lord! She has Tom's slender cheekbones!"
I instinctively grabbed a phone. I had to make a phone call to an old friend. Luckily, I still kept in touch with some people from the old days. One person could answer all my questions. Finally a woman's voice picked up saying it was Stark Enterprises.
"Patch me into the Avengers. This is Louise Grant, the Blonde Phantom. I must speak to Steve Rodgers. Get me Captain America! I can verify my identity." I started. " I need his help."
Bobby
--------------
I quickly hid my hand behind my back from Kitty. There was no way she was going to get info from me. I smirked as she tried to see what was behind me. I wondered how long it was going to be before she turned on the guilt trip.
"Oy veh..Come on, Drake.."Kitty persisted. "What's going on? You got to let me know!"
" Can't tell ya." I shook my head. "But, I can tell you that it's something great! But, you and the others are all going to have to wait. The Prof said so. And since when do you speak Yiddish?"
I hoped Kitty bought that line. Sara and I weren't ready to tell everyone just yet as it happened only a short while ago. They'd make a big impromptu party and the students would be confused. Well, one day we'd tell them everything.
"You're cold, Bobby." Kitty pouted.
"It's my job." I laughed. "Why don't ya check on all six feet of Russian organic steel you call a boyfriend."
"Okay...only because your girlfriend is one of my cloeset friends!" Kitty pouted as she sank into the floor. "Oh and by the way..I caught Julia and Dennis hanging out together."
"So?" I tried to push her head back down. "Let them just hang out."
"Gossiping with you isn't fun!" Kitty sighed and vanished.
I turned on the television after Kitty finally went away. Kitty was really smart but she certainly could crack a joke and tease someone. She's a good friend, though and a lot of fun to be with. Not to mention she was a computer whiz.
The news showed something out of Los Angeles. Some woman claiming to be the World War II heroine Blonde Phantom was fighting crime. Images flashed of her fighting some gang in South Los Angeles.
"These pictures show a vigilante dressed in what appears to be a red evening gown and a black mask. this look was last seen on the heroine of the 1940s known as Blonde Phantom." the female reporter explained. "Authorities are baffled at the reemergance of the heroine. If it really was her."
My jaw dropped a bit when I saw her. I had the television freeze the frame as I recorded it. "It couldn't be.." I thought as I raced down to the sub basement and I thought I ran past Betsy and Sara. I wasn't too sure since I was basically pretending to be Quicksilver. I got to the war room and placed the tape in. Bishop was in there as well. The image was still there. I had work to do.
"Computer.." I began. "Link up to the Avengers database. Authorization Iceman 1963 Tango. Display file on Blonde Phantom including a picture and compare it with the picture from the news."
"Robert?" Bishop, the X-Man from an alternate future asked. "What are you doing?"
" Well, Lucas.." I began. " You're a cop. You investigate stuff. I'm trying to get a match with this blonde vigilante in LA and Blonde Phantom. Sara's mom."
"Her mom? But, that's impossible." Bish scratched his goatee.
"Right...let's not forget who we are. Everything impossible has happened Mr. "I'm from an alternate future where I lead the Xaiver School Enforcers."
Bishop stood silent and finally spoke. "I see your point."
I looked at the screen and pointed at the images matching up.
"She's alive!" I smiled. "it has to be her. Or some clone. Or something. We gotta go to LA and check this out."
"It does seem..interesting, Robert." Bishop began. "According to the match up, she hasn't aged a day. How is that possible?"
" Dunno." I started. "But, I have to tell Sara this so we can look into it."
I had to see Betsy about the engagment, to try and bribe her to keep it quiet. I didn't want to keep quiet about it, I wanted to let the world know how great it was but things were hectic enough here as it was and I had this gut feeling that things were going to get worse. We would need to focus on that and not the engagement. Plus, I remembered how everyone had been when Scott and Jean finally tied the knot, it was a wonder just whose wedding it was. I didn't want that. Bobby and I would plan our own wedding in our own time and there was plently of it.
"Let me get this straight, you want me to not tell anyone about the engagement?"
"Yeah, that's right."
Betsy frowned and then smiled suddenly, "Alright, but on one condition."
"What's that?"
"You let me train you in the ninja arts. I need an apprentice and you want an excuse not to use your powers. It's perfect."
I sighed, how did she know that? I hoped it wasn't public knowledge, I don't think that I want that. What'll people think? They'll think I'm a coward, well yeah I am but I can't help that. You try being me and not being scared of what you were. "Alright. Concider me your new apprentice."
"Yes! You're not gonna regret it."
"Really?"
Just then, what looked like Bobby ran past. Betsy, unable to resist the urge to tell a great joke to the supposed master himself, shouted: "Hey Bobby! Quicksilver called! He wants his speed back!"
We both laughed.
Bobby was busy so Betsy dragged me away for my 'ninja initiation', seeing as how I wasn't really needed anywhere else. It wasn't long though before Bobby came in and dragged me away from all that, he seemed excited about something.
"Sara I've found your mother."
"That's not funny Bobby. You know she's dead."
"I'm not kidding. She's alive, somehow, she's found a way to make herself younger maybe, I don't know but she's alive and she's fighting crime in Los Angeles."
This was too much for me.
"We can go and see her. I'm sure she'll be happy to know all about you. She'd be crazy not to."
I hugged him tightly. "Thank you Bobby." I was thrilled of course but scared too, I had never met my parents and they had never known that I existed. What would I say to her if we met?
"Well, I'm not sure what codename I'll have, I'm still thinking on that one, got any ideas?" Dennis asked.
"Hmm, lets see. What exactly are your powers?" I was embarrassed to ask, as I had just witnessed him fighting, but I wasnt exactly sure.
"Well, I have a Hyper Metabolism, which gives me quick agility, brute strength, thick toughness, and makes me heal pretty fast. Plus, I have a natural immunity to most toxins."
"Interesting." Boy, this would be a tough one, there was a lot to figure in.
I took out a pad of paper and began jotting down some ideas.
"hmmm, lemme think"
Dennis seemed somewhat interested, and he kept trying to peek over my shoulder, but I wouldnt let him.
"No no, not until Ive made a couple of suggestions."
He shrugged, "all right."
After slipping a couple more names on the list, I handed it to him.
"It's just a couple of suggestions, you could always pick another."
On the list were a couple of names,
~Remedy
~Metagross(heheheeee, that would actually be kind of funny)
~Hyperdrive
He looked over the 3 names, but i wasnt quite sure what was going through his mind.
"Eh,...."
------------------
I held Sara close. This was going to be something majorly important for her. Sure she had a good relationship with my mom. We went over there after the Shadow King debacle and as a result of that psionic nightmare, we were pretty much pooped out. Shadow King heard of Terra Nova and their plot and wanted to use her to his own ends. But, the X-Men and I stopped him.
"This is going to be amazing." I smiled as she shook a bit. "I know you're nervous, honey but we're going to manage. We're X-Men and we can take on anything thrown at us."
"Thanks for finding this out." Sara kissed me. "What did you do? Contact S.H.I.E.L.D?"
"Nope." I shook my head.
"What?" she shrugged.
" T.V." I replied simply. "I saw a report of her in LA and cross referenced it with an Avengers datafile on Louise Grant, the Blonde Phantom."
Sara kissed me deeply and unlucky for us we were standing in front of the hallway leading from the Blackbird hangar. Cyclops and his team just returned from a mission. Scott rose his eyebrow while Rogue couldn't help but grin.
" A body'd be mighty jealous with all that kissin', sugah." Rogue grinned.
"ROGUE!!!!" Sara pouted.
We both stood at attention when we saw the leader of the X-Men and several of the others just smiling at myself and Sara. Really good thing we were holding off announcing the engagement. I had to save face and talk about everything.
Scott's team apparantly had a mission similar to ours where they found another disk with valuable information. That made two disks. I wondered what was on them.
"Guys..you're gonna wonder why we kissed like that." I held up my hands. "Have all the X-Men meet me and Sara in the War Room."
Within ten to fifteen minutes all the X-Men were gathered in the same room. Even Professor X was present. The student body was off doing their own thing so we had the change to talk. Finally, all three teams were gathered. Cyclops, Phoenix, Angel, Beast, Havok, Polaris, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Storm, Wolverine, Gambit, Psylocke, Jubilee, Bishop, Sola and myself were in the same room.
"What's so urgant that you had to have everyone meet here?" Scott asked.
"Are you guys okay?" Jean asked. "I'm sensing some nervousness."
" I'll cut right to the chase." I explained. "I watched some tv tonight out of LA and I saw someone that resembled Sara's mom, Louise Grant."
I typed in the computer and brought up the comparison image.
"That picture on the right is from the Avengers database." Hank correctly assumed. "She looks remarkably like the woman in the news story. If it is her..she'd have been de-aged."
"So, Bobby and I were kind of wondering if we could go to Los Angeles tomorrow and check this out, Professor." Sara nodded to the Prof and he smiled.
Professor Xavier wheeled up to the two of us. The prof was sure to let us go. We had to go check this out. I owed it to Sara. She missed so much cooped up in that lab of Terra Nova.
"Well, you can go." the prof explained. "I sensed a strange mutant presence on Cerebro a short time ago. You may go tomorrow and bring along your charges. This will be their first real mission. It's another reason to go to Los Angeles."
"Thank you, Prof!" Sara hugged the professor really, really right.
" Excited, much?" Jubillee snickered as Kitty dope slapped her. "Hey!"
"Slipped. Sorry, firecracker." Kitty whistled.
It was settled! Sara and I were going to go to Los Angeles with the new mutant team.
"Prof. this means so much to me because it means a lot to Sara." I started. "You're more like a father than my own dad and everyone in this room can say the same thing."
"Well, you've come a long way, Bobby." The prof smiled with pride. "Ten years ago when you first walked through these doors you were one of the first X-Men and now here you are helping the newest."
"Careful, Prof.." Warren beat his wings. "Drake's head is getting swelled up."
"Quiet, Warren or I'll tell you what we've been doing with your credit cards." I grinned.
"Some things never change, Chuck." Logan chuckled as Warren's mouth dropped a bit.
"Too true, Logan." the Prof replied. "I will send a telepathic summons to the students of ours tomorrow morning. I trust on the trip you'll explain the situation."
I looked over toward Sara. It was her decision to tell the kids the whole story of why we were going to Los Angeles. True we needed to get the new mutant. However, we needed to find Sara's mom and that would take explaining. Like why Sara's the daughter of a World War II superhero couple.
"Sara?" I asked. "Are we going to tell them, honey? They're going to be clueless and will want to know as soon as we find Blonde Phantom."
"I...I don't know, not yet anyway. I want to see when the time comes because I have no idea how to explain this."
Bobby nodded and the team seemed to accept that as a solid conclusion and began to depart from the scene. I wondered what was going to happen now, everything just seemed so awkward I mean, I was excited about going to find my mom but I had to wait until tomorrow and the suspense was absolutely killing me. I wanted to find her now. I'd waited over 20 years for this and I didn't want to wait a moment longer. But we had to.
Or not.
Minutes later the Professor was calling us all up to Hank's lab for meeting and I mean all of us. Old and new. I was surprised we could all fit inside, there were so many of us now. It was a strange mix, the X-Men seemed to be completely aware of what was coming next and our new recruits seemed both confused and curious at the same time.
"Johnny's robotic clone has been sightened down in LA and is terrorising citizens there. As a result, I shall be sending Sara and Bobby's team to LA early so that they can put and end to this threat and also complete their reconosance mission. I'm sure the two of you can handle it."
We both nodded. It shouldn't be a problem for Bobby to handle. I'd lead the others on the rescue part of the mission and he could deal with robot-Johnny, piece of cake right?
We led all of our recruits down to the hanger and explained to them how this robot was like a copy of the human torch and how the Professor wanted us to find a mutant that was hiding somewhere in the city.
We boarded he plane and Bobby took us into the air.
A night mission wasn't exactly what I would have preferred to have to give some of these guys some training but I'm sure we could handle it. Bobby and I discussed our plans for handling this mission, though it was already pretty obvious.
As we came upon the city, we saw that lots of the buildings had been set on fire. We touched down as near as possible and I turned to our trainees. "Okay, this is how it goes. Our job is to rescue anyone trapped inside those buildings, your job is to help get them out." I handed them each a communicator. "Pair up and stick with your buddies okay? If you get stuck call on these and I will come and get you. Don't try anything to out there with your powers unless you absolutely have no choice. Okay?"
"Okay."
I turned to Bobby. "I'll be there to help as soon as I can," he told me.
I nodded, "be careful."
He kissed me quickly. "I'm always careful."
He left us in the blackbird and i took a moment to take a deep breath. "Okay everybody, exit the craft and pick your partners." There were ten of them in total so at least everyone would have a partner (assuming that everyone who has posted in this rpg so far intends to post again), they paired up relatively quickly. "Okay lets take it one street at a time okay? I don't want you all going off too far I know you're capable of taking care of yourselves to a certain extent but this is dangerous work, anything could go wrong at any moment. Stay alert, stick with your buddy and don't lose that walkie-talkie and everything will be fine."
When we got there, I set each partnership to a building where someone was trapped, hopefully they could handle it by themselves but I kept nearby just incase. The pairs seemed to be doing okay but I was worried about Bobby.
*okay you guys can post how your mini rescue mission go. I need to skip a bit*
"Sara!"
I turned, "Bobby you're okay!" I hugged him tightly. "What happened?"
"He escaped but I gave him a good beating beforehand."
"I'm glad you're okay."
Just then, a woman walked past with her small child. The kid was crying and was saying something about this big guy who saved him from an out of control bus. Bobby and I looked at each other, could this be the mutant we were after? I called the Professor.
"Yes Sara it would appear that that is our mutant."
"Where is he?"
"LA general hospital, it's about 5 blocks away."
"Okay." I looked at Bobby and handed him my communicator, "if any of the kids get in trouble they'll call on that. Keep and eye on them okay?"
"I can handle it."
I shot him a quick smile and took off for the hospital. It was hard tracking him down once I got there, for some reason they didn't want to give me any information. I couldn't help it that I didn't know the guy's name, just that he'd been checked in a shrt while ago. It was just hell trying to find him but I did, room 188.
I opened the door and he looked at me and frowned. "Who the hell are you?"
"I'm Sara. I'm a mutant, like you."
"Mutants? What are they?"
"People with gifts. People who can do things that normal people can't."
"People who are like me?"
I nodded and closed the door. "there's a special school set up to help people like us, people who the outside world don't want to accept. I've come to ask you if you would like to join us."
He seemed to be thinking.
"What's your name?" I asked.
Mind game
I lied in that hospital bed thinking about what had happened.
Flash Back:
I sat under a large oak tree in the local park just listening to nature, I tend to do this alot. I can never sleep, And It's nice to get some fresh cool air. Living in LA that doesn't happen during the day with all the smog, all this hustle and bustle, cars polluting the city. Good god and theres a bus, those are worst of all.. Wait.. That Kids in the road chasing a bug! "COME ON YOU OLD BITCH YOUR KIDS IN THE ROAD!" I yelled at the mom but no, she doesn't even hear the bus comming. Damn Old people!
I had no chance to catch the kid, I had to risk getting caught.. I started to run towards him "I'm to far away!" The kid looked over at me running I screamed at him to move But he just looked at me confused. I got to where I figured I could move him and now that I think about it, the look on his face was priceless.. He lifted up right off the ground straight up in the air, as the thing went right over him, Those screams really messed up my concentration, by this time the old lady saw him suspended in the air and ran under neath him. I could feel myself getting weak. "Well your welcome kid.." I said quietly to myself as I collapsed on the ground, The kid fell into his moms arms safe.
Man, that bus was out of control, there wasn't even a driver in it, I guess it was left in gear on the hill. Oh well, not my problem, It hit a tree a block away so I hope no one got hurt.. All I remember after that was the kid running over to me when he got on the ground, I blacked out a few seconds after.
Now:
'Shit, I gotta get out of here. They're gonna give me a bill, and I'm gonna have to pay it, I don't have the best paying job in this god forsaken city damnit!' But time for that had to wait, I eavsdropped on someone outside counting. "186, 187, 188.. This is it" It was a female voice "Who would be visiting me? Who would even know I was in here" I wondered
Slowly the door opened and it was some chick I never met. So, In my charming fashion "Who the hell are you?" I figured I'd get a smart ass comment back, shes probly here about insurance.
"I'm Sara I'm a mutant like you"
'The hell?' "Whats a mutant?"
"People with gifts. People who can do things that normal people can't."
"People who are like me?" Ok Now I'm a bit interested..
She started going on about me joining, talking a mile a minute, I just stared at her blankly after about 15 minutes on one breath. "Uh huh....Wanna start over?"
"Whats your name?"
"It's James, What exactly do all these mutants do exactly?"
"Well, We go around helping people out, Right now my team is rescueing people from fires down.." "No I mean what can they do?"
"Oh, well it varies from person to person, Take Me for example, I can take energy from the sun and convert it, Where as you probably do something else"
"Uh yeah, but now, whats this about joining you? You guys need help with something?"
"You could say that."
"Ok, Well you get me out of this hospital And I'll see what its all about, Don't got nothin to loose right?" I smiled at her and she started to laugh "Right, And Your bills are paid in full, You can leave, You can thank the Professor for that."
"Awesome, Well lets get going then."
We both got up and walked towards the door but she spoke up. "Do you mind if we hurry? I want to get back and make sure everyones alright." "Sure thing" I said and we started to run (I would guess 5 or 6 blocks) down the road and as we turned the corner to find a guy standing there just watching.
"Holy shit! What happened here?! Whats with all the fire?! Is anyone inside?!"
The guy looked at me apparently sizing me up, he was a bit shorter than me, In a stern tone he snapped. "Well We have people inside looking just for that."
"...Oh, Well How can I help? I'm feeling better now." 'This Guy must be in charge or something, I bet he's that professor dude' I thought to myself
I left the blackbird and saw loads of buildings on fire. Los Angeles was under seige by the orignal Human Torch. This torch though wasn't human. He was an android created back before World War 2 and was a great hero. I quickly iced up nd shook off the jet lag. It was like 9 pm back in New York and here we are where it's 6 pm. We had the blackbird under cloak in a park. I saw Sara and the others go one way and I had Flamebrain version 1.0 to find.
I created my infamous ice-slide and skated around the city looking for that android. He couldn't be that hard to find. People below me were looking up and pointing. New York seemed to be the center of all things superhero these past few years but a lot of us worked globally. I was even based here a few years back as a member of the Champions.
"Look! Isn't that Iceman?" I heard a woman call from the sidewalk.
"Is he allowed in LA?" A guy called.
"Hey! Quit rainin' on my car!" a cab driver grwled. I guessed my ice was dripping in this heat. Plenty of moisture to make ice but it was going to go fast.
I spotted a flaming figure by the Hollywood sign. He was heading into Hollywood. I skated faster and shot ice at him. It seemed to get his attention as he came straight at me. The main difference with this Human Torch and Johnny Storm was aside from the height difference, Johnny's flaming form was more defined and his powers could be turned off. However, this one was essentially a humanoid fireball with no facial features or anything.
"Sorry, Torchie 1.0." I grinned. "All your favorite 1940s actors and actresses are either old or are dead."
"I-Iceman?" He asked as he laughed a fire ball at me. "I don't know what's wrong. You gotta help me!"
"Riiight.." I dodged. "Just as soon as you launch a fireball at me? Please."
Torch grabbed his head and I thought he was charging for another attack. I tried to freeze him but the ice quickly melted. I wasn't sure what was going on with him. He was twisting and turning in mid air. Something must have been wrong with the programming! If we could get him to Hank Pym, he might be able to do the same job he did to the other android hero who was based on this Torch. The Vision.
"Get away, Iceman! I don't want you getting hurt, kid. My powers are starting fires all over the city! I saw her and I went nova!" The torch cried and tried another attack which I barely dodged.
"Keep it together, Drake." I thought. "If I fall from this slide, It's bye-bye Iceman and hello crushed ice."
" Yeah. The X-Men are here witnessing your dirty work." I explained as I tried to ice a leg and still tried to keep up with him.
The torch then looked at me. I couldn't see his face or anything under that fire. He was supposed to be in a containment suit that allowed him to flame on and off.
"Where's Cap?" he asked, speaking in broken phrases. "We need to stop Hitler! I can't flame off! Suit...gone..Programming..altered. Terra Nova..."
"Terra Nova?" I asked. "They did this to you?"
There was no time for a reply, The torch flew straight at me and my ice form sizzled under the heat as he grabbed me off the slide and into the air.
"Hammond!" I groaned. "Let me go. Put me on the roof. We gotta talk."
"Programming..altered. Subject Jim Hammond, the Human Torch no longer functioning within normal parameters." Hammond spoke again. This time not with his normal human voice. It sounded more robotic.
"I'll say.." I cranked up the cold and managed to be released and threw ice down to ccushion my fall. I luckily landed on some roof. "Hammond! You wanna find Cap? I can take you to him! He's in New York! He's-."
I saw a red glove on my shoulder. I turned around to see Captain America. The living legnd of World War II was here? What was he doing here?
"He's right here, son. Take it easy." Cap suggested.
"No way, Cap.." I shook my head. "This Torch's causing problems and you might get burned."
Captain America turned and gave me a stern look. His eyes showed determination under that blue mask with the white "A" on it. He hoisted up his round shield and flung it at the Torch. Amazingly, it came back.
"Iceman, thanks for the concern." He explained. "I'm going to be fine. You did your part and you did nice work."
"He's getting away!" I pointed out as the Torch shook his head.
"Reporting back to Terra Nova HQ.." the robot voice responded. "Terra Nova mission to find Blonde Phantom failed due to interference of Captain America and Iceman."
The android flew off. I had no idea what was wrong with Jim Hammond. Neither did Cap.
"Terra Nova?!" I growled. "Cap..I gotta go after him!"
"Control yourself, Iceman." His voice softened. " I hid a fireproof tracking device on the shield when I threw it at him. He's going to lead us to Terra Nova."
"Alright." I sighed and looked down the street to see Sara and what I guessed was the new kid. All that was left now was to find the Blonde Phantom.
"She's waiting for you." Cap replied. "Why are you here in LA?"
" On a tip that Sara's mom, Blonde Phantom could be alive." I explained. "That and the Prof detected some new mutant here. I'm teaching a group of students and right now they're fighting fires Torchie 1.0 started."
Cap nodded and knealt on the rim of the building. His expression softened and he didn't seem like the stern but fair leader of the Avengers and living legend any more. He sounded like a regular guy. Not at all boy scoutish.
"Saw the news report, too?" Cap asked. " I came here for that same reason too. That and she called me. I also traced your data hookup to the Avengers computer so I came to LA hoping to find you. Let's get down there and talk to Sara."
I nodded and created an ice slide back to the ground. Cap and I walked and saw Sara alking to the new mutant. I wasn't sure what was up but it looked like she was explaining things to him. Cap and I walked closer and Sara was still talking.
Sara turned, "Bobby you're okay!" she hugged me tightly. "What happened?"
"He escaped but I gave him a good beating beforehand." I explained.
"I'm glad you're okay." she kissed me as I de-iced.
"Kids these days.." Cap sighed. "Sara. I have some news for you. It's about your mom and Terra Nova. It seems Terra Nova reprogrammed the original Torch and went looking for her. I managed to get a tracking device on him."
Cap then placed his shield on his back do he could hand Sara a piece of paper.
"Your mom though is here. De-Aged thanks to some ray. She-Hulk can fill us in. She saw you and Iceman in New York and wants to see you at her house just outside the city." Cap explained.
I waited for Sara's response. The others were still off saving lives. I just saw Cap, Sara and the new kid. The others were a communicator call away. I wasn't sure how we were going to get there and explain to the kids everything. Terra Nova's a new group but they've caused a lot of problems lately.
Bobby escorted Kip and I to the med lab but I exited soon after after a quick checkup from Jean Grey. The only thing I needed was a good nap and a few hours of sleep in my room perked me up quite a bit. I spent the rest of my free hours taking advantage of the pool facilities, where I tried to combine my wind powers with the pool, creating a mini water funnel. I spun my index fingers around each other as I tried to lift the tornado into the air but it soon collasped under itself. If I could manipulate water to aid me, then it would be another power under my belt.
I moved my way from the pool to the cafeteria for a good lunch. Only when I finished my burger did I hear Professor Xavier's voice in my mind, calling everyone into Hank's lab. Down there, we learned of a robotic Torch wreaking havoc in LA and the new team had to go to keep the peace. I sighed as I was looking forward to relaxing for a bit more time but work was work.
One dizzy and slightly nauseous ride later and we were on the west coast, staring at burning buildings. Our job was to rescue whoever was stuck within while trying to keep our own hides alive at the same time. We were each given a communicator and told to pair up. That was the problem right there. I had trouble going up to people and asking them to help me out with stuff. Plus, there was always the question of whether they wanted to work with me in the first place. I exited the plane without a partner and stared up at the fiery building, truly feeling nervous for the first time.
Kip Jude, Gargoyle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kip sat impatiently for a few minutes while Hank looked him over. He was assured it was routine when someone was injured on a mission but Kip couldn't help but feel the Beast was taking advantage of the situation to get a closer look at his genetics. Hank had expressed great interest in his form of regeneration earlier.

After a moment more of testing, Hank finally gave the thumbs up. Kip immediately took to the door, waving over his shoulder as he exited as quickly as possible. He decided he didn't much care for the 'doctor's office' now that he had visited a form of one twice. Even if the physician had superb bedside manner as Jean and Hank seemed to.

Once free, Kip's first thought was to get outside and stretch his wings. He could glide in a straight line in the tunnels but it still felt a bit claustrophobic. He wanted to get outside where he could really spread his wings out and fly a bit without having to worry about scraping the walls.

He managed to get to the courtyard without running into anyone, which was a feat unto itself given how crowded the mansion had gotten in so short a time. Of course, it helped that he could just crawl along the ceiling till he reached a door. Once outside, Kip leapt up and beat his wings till he started to gain altitude. Once he was high enough he stretched them out and let himself soar on the early evening breeze.

He swooped higher and higher, till the entire grounds were laid out below him. Kip couldn't help but feel he was by far not the first to enjoy the playful air currents that graced Xavier's mansion. He certainly saw several people below making similar use of the grounds. Of particular interest, though, was a mutant he had only met briefly. It hadn't been the smoothest of introductions either.

He circled about, watching Wolverine go about some sort of training. It looked almost like he was sparring but he had no opponent. Kip didn't have any reason to like Logan but he was interested in him all of a sudden. Like Kip, all of his mutant abilities were strictly physical. Ever since the encounter with Exodus he had doubts over how someone like him could contribute. It might have been just another excuse not to fit in but Kip had felt practically useless once he came too after the fight. If it hadn't been for Storm and Eclipse he would've been crushed by a force he couldn't even see.

Wolverine, however, suffered from many of the same limitations and yet he managed to keep pace with all of these supremely powerful mutants. Possibly even more limitations than Kip actually, because he didn't have the benefit of Kip's rock hard skin or his wings. He had to know how someone like that could match up against a mutant like Exodus.

Without another moments hesitation he plunged down towards the feral mutant and landed a few feet in front of him. Wolverine spun to face him, extending his claws. When he saw who it was the claws retracted and he fell into a more casual stance.

"Want somethin kid?" Logan asked a bit gruffly.

"Training," Kip stated plainly.

"Bobby and Sara are in charge a th...." Logan was cut short as Kip took a very insistent step forward.

"They can fight from fifty feet. I have to fight up close. I have to fight like you," Kip rubbed his shoulder where Wolverine's claws had scratched him when they first met.

"Look kid. Bobby and Sara are the teacher's, not me. I don't think it'd be a good idea ta......." Logan was hesitant but wasn't given much of a choice to remain firm on the matter.

"You" Kip swiped diaganolly with a clawed hand, "Will" as Wolverine leapt back to avoid the blow Kip lunged forward with an open clawed uppercut with his other hand, "Train Me!" Kip followed through with a spinning sweep with his tail.

Wolverine slid to the side of the uppercut and then flipped forward over Kip's tail. When he landed he pounced at Kip's back, pinning his shoulders to the ground. He let out an unsettling growl before letting Kip up.

"What is your damage kid?" Logan no longer tried to put patience into his voice.

"I will keep coming until you agree to train me!" Kip was firm and he dropped to all fours like he was preparing to pounce.

"Way I hear it you ain't exactly in need of it Gargoyle," Logan tried to calm his voice but it wasn't easy while looking at a mutant intent on disturbing him. "Bobby and Ro said you put the hurt on psyboy. That ain't somethin just any mutant can do, kid."

"Exodus was..... distracted. If the other's hadn't been there he would've crushed me before I got within twenty feet of him," Kip resumed his assault and pounced at Logan.

Wolverine simply grabbed his wrist and sidestepped, jutting his shoulder out to push Kip away. He then held his hand up and let out a very forceful growl.

"Alright! Jees.... If you ain't the most stubborn....." Logan's voice was both frustrated and amused at the same time. "Alright. I'll train you. One condition though. We get Chuck's permission cause I ain't gonna step on his toes."

'Permission granted Logan. It seems Bobby and Sara won't be the only one's with a pupil this term.' a voice suddenly broke into both their minds.

"Well.... you heard the man kid. Now you get to regret comin ta me," Wolverine gave a sly grin as he dropped into a defensive stance. "Now, the first thing you gotta learn is how ta use yer surroundin's to your advantage."

--------a few hours later--------

Kip fidgeted nervously in his seat. Three flights in two days and he still wasn't comfortable with airplanes yet. He would much rather be flying alongside the jet than in it but he wasn't near fast enough. The quiet hiss of the engine really unsettled him. He would rather hear the roar of the wind.

"You alright there Kip? You look a bit pale," Bobby leaned back to address him. "No one saw you all evening, either."

"I was...... exercising my wings," Kip wanted to keep quiet his training with Logan until he had made some progress. "And this...... this flying inside a machine. It doesn't feel right."

"No worries. We'll be there in......" Bobby began before everyone felt a sudden lurch as they stopped and started to descend straight down, "now I guess."

Everyone filed out of the plane quickly. Kip couldn't exit the jet fats enough. Once everyone was out and they were lined up Bobby and Sara gave a brief speech. They were to split into pairs and investigate the burning buildings to rescue any survivors still inside. He wasn't sure what to do so he watched everyone else to take a cue from the normal people. A few people paired up instantly but a couple stood nervously by themselves. Including Aidan, which surprised Kip. She didn't strike him as being shy after she had managed to come right up to him, hand extended.

He nervously took a few steps toward her. His heart beat seemed to pick up and he tried to open his mouth to talk. He couldn't at first and once again he found himself wondering what was wrong with him. He had never felt so timid before today. At least not like this.

"Would you want to.......I mean........" he stammered over his words.

"Pair up?" Aidan suddenly turned to him.

She had a nervous smile that he mistook for a warm one. Or was it a warm smile. He was too new to trying to read people's expressions.

"Ummm..... yeah....... " Kip answered hesitantly as he looked around and saw almost everyone else had paired up by now.

"Sure," Aidan said positively but still with a bit of nervousness. "How are we gonna get into that building though? The first floor is on fire."

"Leave it to me," Kip said for once with confidence.

Suddenly his wings shot out to their full span. He hopped forward and scooped Aidan off her feet before she could say anything. He bent himself low to the ground and pushed off with all his might, jumping nearly twenty feet into the air. Kip's wings began to beat mightily against the warm air and the two slowly rose upwards.

It was a bit awkward at first but once Kip found some of the rising air currents form the heat of the fires their ascent gained great momentum. Kip couldn't really tell if Aidan had noticed but anyone watching from the ground would probably notice how off-kilter his flying appeared to be. He wasn't used to flying anyone other than himself. It was one thing to glide with someone in hand but to actually fly using the strength of his wings? It was something he had never done before and it is quite a bit of a strain on them. He didn't know why he was even trying, although he did seem to be managing a somewhat smooth ride somehow. If you had asked anyone else they would probably guess he was trying to impress someone. Not that Kip had any idea about that himself.

After a few minutes of flight they landed on the roof of one of the flaming buildings. Kip set Aidan down gently and plopped down indian style on the roof. He huffed a couple of time to catch his breath.

"Go ahead and check the door. I just need to sit for a minute......" Kip suggested through a puff of deep breath.

I didn't know how to respond. I had a lot of things going through my mind at that moment and a lot of it was making very little sense. I turned to our new friend. "You wanna help out?"

He nodded, "yeah."

I handed Bobby the communicator. "Tell the students we have to go take care of some business. They're old enough to handle themselves for a while and our new friend can help keep an eye on them."

Bobby nodded and sent the message.

I turned to James and handed him the communicator. "This will keep you in touch with the rest of our group. They'll call you if they're stuck so help them out. Once they've helped everyone out and this fire here is sorted tell them to head to that hotel over there. We plan on staying the night but tell them we'll cover the expenses. If they wanna get rooms now it's up to them but they can wait for us to get back. You remember all that?"

"No problem."

I turned back to Cap, "lead the way."

Cap nodded and led us through town. I knew the students would be okay, they were old enough to handle these sort of situations and they had a good grip on their powers. We passed through areas of town unaffected by the fires, it was like crossing across two worlds, neither aware the other one even exists.

We stopped outside a small town house. "This is it," said Cap. "She's waiting for you inside."

I nodded and gulped nervously. I didn't know what to expect. I'd never known my mother and now I was meeting her for the first time and I had no idea what I was supposed to say or do. What would she think of me? Would she like me? What would she be like? So many questions. Only one way to get the answers.

I took a deep breath and strode up to the front door. I lifted the knocked and banged it three times. Then I waited. At first I thought that perhaps no one was home was soon I heard the bolt slide in the lock and the door swung open slightly. It was almost like looking into a mirror. With the de-aging she looked roughly my age but there were differences.

"Ummm...hi."

"Hello."

There was that awkward tension between us. It was killing me.

"I...I'm so happy to finally meet you." I said, hugging her suddenly.

She seemed unnerved for a moment then slowly she hugged me back. "I'm glad to see you too."

There was this emotional scene between us and she invited the three of us inside. Cap said he was gonna go back and help the students but Bobby said he would be honoured to come and meet my mom.

"So...has Cap...told you anything about me?" I asked.

"Only that you were looking for me."

"Oh..."

"Sara...I know for certain that you are my daughter but...I just don't understand how this can be."

I sighed. "It's not a pretty story."

"If you don't mind."

I took a deep breath. "Sure mom. For you, anything." I explained my entire background to her. My life up until meeting Bobby, the reason I existed this way and even about the baby. "I always hoped to meet you someday but I thought you were dead...I never thought this would ever happen." I told her as she hugged me tightly.

Dennis and myself where having a bit of fun out on the grounds when I had the strangest sensation. It was as if there was a voice speaking inside my head. And then I recognized said voice, it was Professor Xavier.

He told us that there was trouble in Los Angeles and that we(the new team) needed to go.

"Oh my God, ive never been to L.A., I hope its really like they say it is!"

"And what is that" asked Dennis.

"Beautiful!"

"Right, well, first we have to get rid of the trouble, whatever that may be."

We both ran to the mansion and were soon flying off in the X-jet towards L.A.

We were told that there was a robotic torch wreaking havoc, and we were supposed to help where we could.

Once we arrived in L.A., we were told we needed partners. That was no problem, as I looked at Dennis. "This may work to my advantage," i thought to myself.

As soon as we landed, I hopped out, and looked at Dennis once more, "you ready to go?"

"Lead the way!"

And with that, we ran to the nearest burning building we could find. I could hear someone screaming inside.

"We need to help her!"

Dennis knocked down the door and we walked in. It was sweltering hot in the building, which appeared to be some kind of appartment section. The pleas for aid continued from the second floor, and, avoiding the flames, we moved our way up to the second level.

"This is very dangerous,"i said, "these floors could be unstable."

"Then we must hurry!"

With great speed(as we both have increased agility) we sped off towards the rooms, and in one we found a woman, blond, around 30, who was coughing and lying down on the floor. Dennis picked her up, and we began our descent. The stairs however, seemed to have gone while we were in the room.

We went back to the room and opened the window. There was no roof or anything there, just a two-story fall. I couldnt see any of the others.

"Perhaps we should call someone with the communicators." said Dennis.

*cough**cough* I opened the communicator. "Calling Cap,*cough* we need some assistance, Dennis and White Light require assistance in the first appartment building, second floor, *cough*, left side window."

".......Im on my way."

"Ok, hurry, this building's *cough* burning down, it wont hold much*cough* longer."

I peered out the window. I couldnt see anyone coming.

"Oh.....please hurry, *cough*."

Sara and I awaited BP's response. She went through varying emotions of shock, sadness and relief. She hugged Sara for a long time and I thought she'd never let go for a second. She looked at me after the long hug and fixed her hair.

"Ice..umm..Bobby." she started. "Thank you for brining my angel to me. I knew she and I had a connection ever since I saw you guys in New York. Now I know I have another connection with my late husband and I feel so happy despite how she was born."

"I wish I could have known him too." Sara whispered.

"He would have loved you, Sara honey." Louise aka Blonde Phantom stroked Sara's hair. " He was my world and I thought I lost him forever. He was a very kind and charming man who knew how to treat a lady. Always quick with a joke and fast on the draw when it came to defending people."

I nodded and held Sara close to me. "I feel very grateful to Sara. She's really a great person and provides me with a lot of confidence. I've promised her I'd make her the happiest woman ever."

Louise smiled with a twinkle in her eyes. She showed a lot of wisdom there that older people would have. I guess her generation really was the greatest generation. They went through so mch that people our age, mutant or not have ever had.

"I'm surprised you both are mutants." Lousie started. "They were so rare back in the 1940s. I hope one day you kids will be accepted for who you are. Mutants and humans should live in peace. I've seen the news and I distinctly remember your first mission, Bobby on tv."

"That was ten years ago!" I was kind of shocked. "Our first mission to stop Magneto at Cape Citadel."

She had to have witnessed so much. Back then I was just a pile of snowo. I could do so much more now!

"Yeah." Louise nodded. "I knew I was witnessing a new age of heroes and too be honest I was grateful. I was so happy the day Captain America returned. America..no the world needs heroes now more than ever!"

Sara chimed in."Even though...I was created the way I was..You accept me?"

"Of course." Louise nodded. "You're still my daughter and I love you. No questions asked. You and Bobby have gifts to change the world. Not just powers but yourselves. How you're born into this world doesn't matter. What matters is what you do here."

I nodded and looked at the time. We had better get to the hotel and check on the students. Luckily all the expenses were put on Warren's tab so it was free for a couple nights. I looked out the window and saw that the fires were just about gone. I smiled and thought. "Way to go, team."

"Sara, honey we gotta go check on the students." I started. "Louise...we'll be in touch because something special will occur soon."

The three of us got up and I walked to the door to let Sara and I out.

"Alright, kids." Louise smiled. "Go save the world!"

I nodded and iced up. I stood in her driveway and made an ice-slide to go across town.

"Iceman Express going to Los Angeles Hyatt!" I grinned. "Compliments of one Warren Worthington III."

Sara held on like I was driving a motorcycle and placed her head on my shoulders. The cold didn't effect her for some reason. I figured it was because of her powers. She was always warm.

I slid all the way to the hotel and de-iced by the entrance. We walked in and I grabbed the key to room 518. I barely thanked the guy when Sara half dragged me to the elevator and to our room.

We got to the room in record time and she started to dance seductively as she closed the drapes and put the "Do not disturb sign up".

"Bobby Drake.."Sara smiled seductively and danced a bit. "I want to thank you for today, tomorrow and the future. Because of you I have my mother. I have to thank you."

"Of course, Sara." I smiled.

Sara undid her uniform and placed it on the floor and undid mine. She saw little burn marks from the Human Torch battle and kissed them. I carressed her and leaned into her as we got into the bed. We hugged and kissed for so long. I wasn't sure what brought it on but I didn't care. My future wife was here and I was one happy snowman.
----------------------------------------

*Captain America*

I walked down the streets of LA as soon as I left Sara and Bobby with Louise. She was a great friend of mine. I would catch up with her later but Sara had a lot to tell her about. It was a lot I didn't understand myself.

Suddenly, my communicator went off!

"Calling Cap,*cough* we need some assistance, Dennis and White Light require assistance in the first appartment building, second floor, *cough*, left side window." a female voice called. It sounded like it might have been one of Icemans recruits. Why did she call me and not them? I guessed they were out of range.

"I'm on my way!" I replied.

"Ok, hurry, this building's *cough* burning down, it wont hold much*cough* longer. Oh.....please hurry, *cough*."

I hoisted my shield on my back and raced to see one of the only remaining burning buildings left. The fire crews were already working on the fire and I prepared to get up to the second floor.

"Hold up, Cap!" the fire chief approached me. "Listen, I can't let you get up there!"

"I have to, chief." I responded. "There's a lady up there that needs help."

The cheif looked away and I was already gone. I jumped up and climbed into the window. My shield protected me from the flames and I saw the person who made the call as well as another one. Both were wearing X-Men uniforms!

"Get behind me!" I ordered as the two mutants responded. "We'll be safe behind my shield. It's fireproof."

My shield was more than fire-proof. It was made of adamantium and vibranium. Two very strong metals. We pressed on as the two heroes coughed behind me. The stairwell was on fire so we had to turn to get to the roof! Once on the roof, I turned to the girl.

"Excuse me Miss..." I started.

"Julia.." she replied. "This is Dennis."

"Julia." I nodded. "Are you okay? Can you fly yourself and Dennis to the Hyatt? That's where Bobby and Sara are going to be. They said for everyone to meet them there once the fires were out."

"I can try." Julia nodded and split into seven colored clones.

"Do your best." I nodded. "I'll see abpout locating your teammates. You both did fine work today. Everyone in the building got out."

I saluted those two and jumped off the building. I looked back and saw Julia and her forms take off with Dennis in tow. One onlooker came up to me.

"Filthy Muties!" he growled and I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Those people are heroes!" I responded. "You'd do well to remember that they saved lives in this and several other buildings!"

With that I left the man to think about what he said and contacted the Avengers. We had to track down the Human Torch before any more damage gets done!
