There really wasn't a reason to edit the episode. It's use here is probably due to the production staff wanting an extra week to help polish future episodes. There's been a rather high number of staff as of late and even Iwane Masa'aki has needed assistant animation supervisors and second key animators, so it's safe to say this will help the production schedule a bit.

Finally getting around to watching this episode - presumably this message at the start of the episode just explains that the episode was intended to air in April and was postponed?

Just telling the viewer is a better outcome imo than trying to edit it to fit, or airing it without mention and assuming the audience wouldn't notice.

Since the Japanese Hulu uploads are now considering this Episode #52 shouldn't the threads be re-numbered accordingly?

This is something we're currently trying to work out in coordination with the Bulbapedia numbering system. Hopefully everything will be sorted and decisions will be made in the near future.

My thanks! I sincerely doubt the original master will ever see the light of day so it only makes sense for this to be treated as Episode #52 .
