Review XY032: Mega Lucario VS Mega Lucario! The Wave-Guiding Storm!!

I'm forever irritated that Ash never got his own mega ring.
I wonder if the producers were told from the start that there weren't plans to keep Mega Evolutions for the next generation. Perhaps they decided not to give him one, because they'd have to take it away from him at the end of the series.

Neat third part in the Korrina arc though poor Pikachu, the almost nightmarish look to Lucario almost made him look like he was about to see an early grave. Luckily that ol Lucario got his ass handed to him later on in the Gym battle so hurrah for Pikachu I guess.

In the other thread, when this episode was announced for reairing I said something like "why the f are they showing such an unmemorable episode?" I would like to take this moment to apologise for that statement, as the reason I didn't remember this episode is because I never saw it! I skipped this entire arc (because I am unreasonably biased against Lucario and mega evo) but now I'm thinking - maybe I made a mistake?

This was actually a great episode and I can see why Corni is well loved - she's such a relatable character! Even though I had no good reason to invest in Lucario finding its feet as a Mega, I found myself caring a lot by the end of the episode. More than anything else, the battles were so astoundingly well written and animated that even I was on the edge of my seat. Good choice, Mr Hongo.

A very solid episode. Korrina getting an arc really helps to flesh her out more than the standard one or two episodes gym leaders normally get. I get why her grandfather is annoyed, she's taking her bond with Lucario for granted much like siblings can do (Korrina did say that she and it grew up like brother and sister) and when that bond is tested it doesn't always stand up as much as it's believed to have. This isn't about power itself, it's understanding the power and controlling it.
